We visited The Salty Heifer on 7/11/2026 at about 11am. My husband ordered the all you can eat breakfast, our youngest son got a kids breakfast and my oldest son and I got the Whole Farm omlette. My husband liked his food (besides his hashbrowns not being crispy as ordered), our youngest is 2 and a picker so he doesn't care, our oldest son said his food tasted weird but he ate it and I DID NOT like my omelette. I had 3 bites and a piece of toast and left the rest (2 year old was being whiny and I hate annoying other diners with loud children so we went to the car.) My omelette had no flavor at all. After adding salt, pepper and hot sauce (and not a lot at all mind you) all I could take was what I added. There were SO MANY barely cooked thoroughly hash browns that it might as well have just been an order of hash browns. The omelette was pitifully thin. It just wasn't good but whatever. My husband and oldest son stayed to finish their breakfast as I sat in the car with the youngest. The waitress (who was fantastic throughout the service) went to the back and apparently talked to the owner. My husband said she looked a bit like she was upset when she came back 5-8 mins later. Apparently she couldn't take it off the bill because the owner wasn't having it. Very strange, but whatever, my husband paid it. My husband went to tip the server a bit more than he had initially taken out and she said "no, you don't have to do that." But she was great and deserved a tip. As a business owner myself, the owner sounds like a jerk who has zero concept of good service. If a customer doesn't like something, you fix it and you don't treat your employees rudely either. I couldn't imagine treating my customers that way. Also, invest in some seasonings and lay off the hash browns. Fix your food and your attitude. And play some music in there or something. read more

We came in our first night in the area and were delighted to find this amazing place. The workers were so kind and honest I loved everything about this place, down to their "moo it forward" program to feed those in need. My husband got the motherclucker sandwich (chips on the side), I got the Utter melt (also chips on the side), my dad got an omelette and my mom a chicken dish (i can't remember which) that came with a biscuit, potato wedges, and cottage cheese. The food was delicious and my parents were eyeing the giant cinnamon roll in the case while mentioning we may stop back tomorrow. read more

Stopped in to get a carryout sandwich. Excellent friendly and efficient service. A bug menu with everything you can think of...salads sandwiches pasta steaks. The dessert menu looked incredible and they have bakery selections including the largest cinnamon roll I've ever seen in my life. I didn't partake, but would recommend going to check it out! Went with the Dipper Heifer which was HUGE. Rarely do I have leftovers, yet today I did. Excellent bread, meat, dipping sauce, and potatoes (upgrade from chips) The only reason for 4 vs 5 stars is the meat was not incredibly flavorful. Perfectly cooked and tasted good...just overall somewhat bland. More cheese would help, too. Will definitely check this place out again! read more

We came across this restaurant when the breakfast spot we were looking for is no longer in business. Have to say I'm glad we stopped in here for breakfast. The menu included many delicious and hearty options. From what I can gather, the Friday night fish fry is outstanding. I hope to try that sometime soon. We continue to visit the Salty Heifer often. We truly love the Friday night Fish Fry. Now they have added a small salad bar. While it is nothing fancy, it has all the basics. Beautifully redone restaurant serving Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner! Homemade breads, dessert, and giant cinnamon rolls that you can have grilled as well. Went to the Salty on a Saturday at 5pm . Was greeted pleasantly in a cozy setting .It was " Steak Saturday" so I figured to give it a try. Ordered the Ribeye steak with loaded fries. The steak was the weirdest steak I've ever eaten. Maybe it was precooked to rare and finished on the grill or slow baked like a prime rib ? Either way it was NOT appealing. Mushy texture almost. Service was inexperienced but pleasant. Left with homemade baked goods. The chocolate brownie cake was DRY and nearly inedible. The peanut butter cookies were the saving grace. We stopped on our way through for lunch. Food was okay nothing special. At the front there are dessert cases so we picked up a couple of cookies for the rest of our trip north. We got the super cute cow face sugar cookie and the double chocolate peanut butter chip cookie. The cow cookie was hard as a rock, once you could break a piece off, it had no flavor and was very dry. Arrived on a Sunday around 10:30 to 11am. There were a few other people at tables. We were told to sit wherever we wanted. The waitress came to our table and took our drink order. Both coffees. They were brought over while we looked over the menu. My friend and I both order the Holy Cow. I believe that's what it was called. Two eggs, choice of meat, hash browns and toast. The wait wasn't long. 5 minutes or so. While we waited we checked out the décor. Mostly cow art. As for the meal. We both ordered our eggs over easy. Mine were really runny and sloppy. My buddy said the same. I still ate it and was fine. I don't usually eat hash browns but managed to eat half. It was okay. The floor looked like it needed a good sweep and mop, but maybe it gets that dirty by that time without a touch-up? A tad over $25 plus tip. read more

I took my daughter on a Monday morning for breakfast. She got a pancake, bacon and hash browns. These are huge pancakes and tasty. However she's 9. When I asked about getting 1 instead of 2 I was ment with an attitude from the server...up sell, up sell! I got the steak and eggs. It was awful! I would NEVER recommend this. The steak had a weird texture and an off flavor. I ended up taking it home and feeding it to my dog. I got scrambled eggs with it. They were okay and hashbrowns were under cooked. They were mush. It wasn't worth the $15 (I think that was the price) that I paid for the meal. The server also overheard us talking about birthday plans and couldn't even tell her happy birthday. For a Monday morning I expected a lot more from this place. Need better food and better service. It's a family business so they won't change the staff. Also maybe clean the floors...at 9:30 in the morning the floors shouldn't be sticky. read more

The service was amazing both times that I went. The first time I went I got a Dipper heifer I think it's called. It was so tasty and the meat was just fall apart and delicious with the au jue. I took my kids the second time and got breakfast with them the pancakes are huge and everything was cooked very good. My daughter devoured her pizza and my other daughter got the steak with breakfast and it was cooked perfectly. My kids and myself love the decor and all of the cows everywhere it's just a nice little restaurant. A much needed addition to Manistee. read more
