Food was a decent American version of a English food. The service was polite and friendly though not always at hand. Music was way to loud for a white table cloth restaurant. Actual English pubs are more for bar food, not fine dining and of course there is music but the genuine UK pub atmosphere is geared towards good conversation and social interaction not the management or staff or owner's personal preference. It is a fine dining and or pub dining issue, not a generational one. Refusing A reasonable request by patrons to turn music down is provincial and rude, as well as unprofessional. read more

My new favorite restaurant in Athens! Service is excellent! Never have to wait for a table and they make the best Fish and Chips anywhere in the South! The desserts are amazing too! It's a great place to watch your favorite sports and the restaurant is well appointed with classic English decor! It's a fun place to be and you'll get a fantastic meal! If you're in Athens, don't pass this place up! read more

Fish was excellent! The rest not worth eating. My cake was dried out. Service very good.

This is such a blessing to Athens and surrounding areas!! SO cute with the butcher shop and dessert shop right there. We went for drinks and the bartender was very kind & attentive! read more

Amazing atmosphere !! I got the steak and it was delicious, one of the best steaks in Athens. The wait was long but it was a busy Friday night so to be expected. The bakery was also amazing, tried 2 different cheesecakes and toffee Bundt cake with caramel, all three were delicious . Will definitely be going back! read more

I wasn't pleased with the service and the length of time it took to make our meal. It took an hour for them to bring the meal to us. I was surprised at the meal being served in a paper box. The meal was $29.00 for the fish and chips and the small glass of iced tea. For the price of the fish and chips, it should have been served on a plate. Captain D's serves their meals on plates if you are dining in the restaurant. If I wanted a "Happy Meal", I would go to McDonald's. My wife and I had the same meal including two glasses of iced tea for $63.00, which is unacceptable. I wasn't pleased with the taste of the fish or chips but I kind of expected it since they are fried in beef fat. But I assume this is the way that the British cook their food. read more

Stopped in for Sunday brunch at 11:30. There were only about 10 people at two tables. The food was great as was the Irish coffee. The problem was the speed of service. We had the English muffin breakfast drinks and a slice of cake. We didn't get out until almost 1 PM. While I don't expect fast food delivery rates I think the amount of time was a bit much. I assume they are working to streamline the service and look forward to stopping back frequently in the future. read more

we've been twice, very small servings, average flavor, high prices. The entire restaurant smells of fish. service was good. it's a neat looking place, but nothing really special read more

Has a real pub feel. Happy it is not a chain. Got to try more selections but I cannot get enough of the shepherds pie.

Everything was great! Just hate It is 40 minutes from our house! But we are going back as soon as possible!

We had an opportunity to visit one of Athens, Alabama's newest dining venues. We were met by a cheerful and welcoming staff. The ambiance was inviting, warm and not noisy. The service was prompt with questions answered very professionally. The dishes were delicious and presentation expectant of a well managed establishment. Athens is blessed to have this nice addition to its downtown. It was a pleasurable experience and we look forward to visiting the Salty Cod again real soon. read more

We just had the best experience at The Salty COD. We had a large group of 10 with 4 babies to serve. The dinner service was great, the food was amazing, and the dessert experience after was so fun! If you haven't tried them lately, give them another chance. So glad we did! read more

Love the atmosphere. The food and service are excellent! Try out their desserts. Loved the Gelato and salted caramel cheesecake! Also had the Mac and cheese fritters! Outstanding read more

very neat and clean service was excellent. I sat out side as the weather was very pleasant but evidently the neighbors have dogs that barked incessantly and i was seated next to a metal gate used by the kitchen staff to exit and enter the building. loud clanging every time it moved. ordered fish and chips they were good not exceptional and certainly not worth the price. probably won't revisit this place. just not suitable for me. I like to relax and enjoy good food and this place just did not accommodate. read more

The food was really good. Your portions are generous and tasty. When the Saly Cod first opened the complaints were "You only receive one piece of fish with your chips for $26.00." Well let me say, the person who wrote that, was an ungreatful, grouchy and just plain miserable person. Yes, it is one piece of fish, but they forgot to mention it was one half of a whale. We enjoyed all including the Gelato. read more

Delicious food everything is super fresh and the fish and chips is on point!! Also the pastrami sandwich is incredible

Food was underwhelming and expensive. Perhaps we just got the wrong thing, but we were disappointed never-the-less. Good wait staff but the food took longer than expected to be delivered to table. I imagine if you want good beers this is the place, but they may want to consider some more price friendly options. 26.00 dollars for fish and chips is a bit steep... read more

Don't listen to the anyone , This place is AMAZING! Me and my wife just ate there. Food was delicious. Service was Fast, and the atmosphere was Great. It felt very authentic. Recommend to anyone coming to Athens to go here read more

My wife and I ate here for the first time tonight and she got the frog legs and fried green tomatoes and I got the brisket burger. We were both super happy with the food honestly one of the best burgers I've ever had. Our waiter Cameron was amazing and super nice. Super cool place to eat and hang out will definitely come back. read more

We've not had the opportunity to eat there, it's only been open - at most a month. I don't think it's really fair to give a rating when they're still working out the kinks and getting their stride. Really glad to have fish that came from the ocean and isn't catfish. read more

my wife and I had date day there, our experience was great, our cocktails were good, and our service was fantastic. many thanks to our great server, Nina. I would make the suggestion that they get the makings for a dry gin martini. M...a blue TARDIS outside the front might get you some more business from the sci-fi geeks...like me. LOL Anyway, my wife and I will be back. Jay and Tammy Graham read more

I must say I've traveled to Europe and I was transported back. The Snug is very cool, they are in most pubs in Ireland. I've also been to Italy so when I saw Lavazza coffee and gelato it made me smile. When I was in Ireland, people congregated and had drinks and just enjoyed the fellowship. What I enjoyed most was watching the chefs cook. You can definitely see the passion unlike these chain restaurants where it is nothing spectacular or special. Do people think that these chains have pastry chefs and garde manager chefs hand making coleslaw, cheesecakes and hand cutting steaks , and rolls on site? I invite you to experience what chefs do well and enjoy their expertise. Some may not have the palette for cuisine not rich in sugar or salt as most Americans are accustomed to. I happened to walk in the butcher shop to see Chef Barry hand cutting steaks- very impressive. I am a relentless food connoisseur and I was happy that great, proper food is here. People need to see progress and feel joy in these times. I will go back and tell others to go experience a lovely establishment with character. read more

So excited to see such a beautiful modern place on the square in downtown Athens. So pretty & clean but as soon as I sat down and was greeted by the bartender, I should have got up an left. She had the personality of a gnat. I asked what brand of Bloody Mary mix they had and she told me that they make there own mix. Ok, nbd. She proceeded to bring me a drop to try. Literally, I had to turn the cup upside down and it wouldn't even come out, much less enough to try. In fact the lady next to me laughed because I had the clear plastic solo cup upside down waiting for it to drip out. I should have taken a picture because it was priceless. Anyways since I couldn't taste it I ordered a coke instead. I then proceeded to order fish (cod) and chips. I asked if I could substitute the mashed potatoes instead of the chips and I was told no, but I could order the side for an additional 8$. On the menu the mashed potatoes were the exact same price as the chips (located on the sides menu) but she was adamant no substitutions were allowed on any meals. Then I was asked if I wanted mushy peas or curry something. I asked if I could substitute the mushy peas for the mashed potatoes and again I was told no. I can't remember any restaurant ever saying absolutely no substitutions on any meals unless it was specified on on or two specific items. Next, The meal came wrapped in a newspaper . Not sanitary at all IMO. The ink rubs off on your hands and the newspaper is mass produced in a warehouse printing company/factory, definitely being mass produced and not under any sanitary conditions. Think about that for a minute. Why in the heck would I want my food wrapped in newspaper where the papers are run through a printing press, in a factory and where the stacks of papers have been thrown on the ground and in the back of a tractor trailer rig on their dirty truck bed (on the floor of their truck where they walk, with their dirty shoes ‍). Anyways, Cod usually is a very mild fish , when I stuck my fork in it and broke it open, it smelled awful, super fishy. If I had that in my fridge to cook and if I had smelled it before putting it in the pan, it would have went directly in the trash. The batter was super salty too. I ate 2 bites and I couldn't muster any more. When the bartender came back to check on me, I told her it was way too salty. Chips were tasteless. The food was hot at least, but I left a full plate. Bartender never told the manager or anything. I definitely wasn't looking for a free meal, but definitely something different maybe. Total waste of money. Left there and went to the pizza buffet around the corner which was delicious and 1/2 the price. Should have went there. DEFINITELY WILL NEVER go back. What a let down read more
