I definitely will be back to Bishops! The quality of service, It was phenomenal. If you wanna go anywhere that's a bar or anywhere to have a good time. Management did awesome job, the prices was right. Drinks and food came out quickly. The band played one my favorite songs, Take yourself to Bishops, I'll put 10 stars review on a 5 star review. I was a chef myself. I critique everything in a restaurant I had to critique this besides probably need another pool table but other than that, you can't go anywhere good. They were great if you ever go anywhere especially in Madison, I 100% recommended to anybody, they make you feel like you are a real person. It makes you feel down home. This place kicks absolute ass. The bartender we had the other night (tall guy, Hawaiian shirt, long hair) was amazing. He made the best drinks for the best price. He was working the bar by himself at prime time and he was totally rocking it. The place was pretty busy for a Monday night. People everywhere, playing pool, sitting at the bar, couples in booths, friends at tables they had pulled together. It was a great atmosphere! The drinks were phenomenal with a cheap price tag. I asked for a Red Beer (aka Chelada) and this man worked some magic and made me one so damned perfect that the whole group ordered one after trying mine. We also need to discuss the food. Because damn, I was impressed again. We hangry bitches and ordered several things. I got chicken tenders with honey mustard and then later on ordered cheese sticks. My fiancé had a double cheese burger with fries (which he LOVED and raved about) and then he ordered super nachos (which he said were just okay). My bestie and I were really impressed with the bathrooms. They were clean, stocked, well lit and most importantly NOT haunted by the stink of old vomit and regret. Every toilet flushed. All doors closed and locked. There were paper towels and soap at all sinks. We can't wait to visit again! read more

My family and I recently moved to Madison, and Bishops is near our neighborhood - unfortunately decided to try it for lunch. If you don't mind the thick odor of second-hand smoke, and your clothes and hair smelling like it for 2 days, by all means try this place! Most of the food was decent, but our 10 wings ordered as an appetizer actually arrived AFTER our meal (waitress claimed they "take so much longer than the other food"). :-D The word "appetizer" isn't rocket science, people! And attached is a photo of a few we brought home, which our German Shephard turned his nose up at. Those dark areas you see are huge blobs of congealed, hard-as-a-rock fat and/or overfried batter. This "appetizer" was around $15.00 of wasted money. Do they even remotely resemble those in this restaurant's photos posted online? All in all, the place is dark, dirty (yes, including the bathrooms), a skid-row atmosphere dive, and a major rip-off. $50 (incl. tip of course) down the drain. Lesson learned. read more

Divey (which I love) and decent drinks with good prices. Sleepy little place. I think that my only complaint is just that the building is a little too big. And they carded me (not a complaint) so I'm flattered that they think I could be under 22. read more

This is three or four stars bar. This place is a good neighborhood bar that has very good food at a very reasonable price. They do allow smoking. My wife loves going there to get the specials on wings and of course I like the ribs. I also like the fact that they have NFL football on Sundays. you can sit and watch your favorite team. read more

Great service, hot wings and reasonable price. Topping for the mushroom Swiss burger were all very fresh and included onions, tomato, pickle and lettuce. I added a picture of the wings which came out nice and hot. read more

I came here a few weeks ago when I was supposed to be going somewhere but was closed so I went to Bishops. One thing I will say I like about the place is if you want to have a drink and a smoke you can as places like this are becoming too far in between. The food was okay but what really drove this rating to being only 3 stars was the fact the people in there was rude. I know people when they get drunk they want to talk but when you sitting at a table trying to unwind and having some dinner and someone smelling like alcohol to the point you cannot eat anymore really got me upset. People. this is -- above all -- a BAR. And, yes, bars allow smoking. (Cigar and pipe fans, take note! This is a GREAT place to hang out on a rainy Saturday afternoon.) It is not a "pub" in the sense of an old-school Irish pub, where you bring your kids for dinner (as well as where you can come and drink with your buddies later). It is a BAR (where you can come and drink with your buddies) that also serves bar food, and -- as bar food goes -- pretty darn good bar food, at that. The Cuban sandwich is AMAZING. The ribs are great. The fries are perfectly cooked. I mean, we've all been to restaurants where they cooked fries in grease that wasn't quite hot enough, resulting in soggy, soaked fries. This is not that place. The grease is obviously *just right* -- resulting in perfect fries. It has pool tables. It has sporting events on the telly. It has friendly bartenders. The customers are (generally) friendly, as well -- so long as you are friendly with them. It's a comfy, neighborhood BAR where you can also get tasty FOOD. And, as a bar-that-also-serves-food, it does its job very well. read more

Bishop's has the best burgers within 5 miles of my home. You can order them by phone and pick them up. The crowd is pleasant and most of them have higher level educations. It also has a fairly large female clientele, which is rare for most bars. The only thing I don't like this place is that they allow smoking. read more

Sorry, I'd love to write a 5 star review, but the only redeeming quality of this place is the staff, who noticed that my steak went untouched and "comp'd" it for me and replaced it with some (edible) chicken wings. My bff RAVES about the ribs here (actually the SE Hsv location) and cannot say enough about it, so we joined BF and her DH for dinner last Saturday. Of note: it's a bar, it has pool tables and they have ash trays. Standard sports bar fare, and bf also praised the steaks so I ordered a rib eye, medium rare. I expected at least a 1/2 inch steak, and got maybe a 1/8th inch steak cooked well done and inedible. The texture was sad, the meat was sad, and it was woefully overcooked. I don't even know what cut of meat it was, SteakUms maybe???? It was NOT a rib eye. If you've ever smelled badly prepared broccoli, you will understand the following: I opted for the mixed veggie side dish, and their mixed veggies are straight from a frozen pouch, which was (again) woefully overcooked to the point of having that noxious smell. I managed one bite of meat, before "calling it a day," food-wise. To my delight, the server was very concerned and after noticing that I wasn't eating, tried his best to right the situation and offered to remove the charge for the steak and get me whatever I wanted in lieu of steak. I got chicken wings and french fries. DH complained that the fries weren't good, but I didn't' mind them, they were OK to me as were the chicken wings. Lessons learned: don't take restaurant advice from bff and stick with the basics when dining in a bar. read more

I have already complained about this delivered meal, but am not sure you received the complaint. So I will reiterate. I treated my son to the ribeye steak last night, June 23rd. One end of the steak was completely raw, and I do mean bloody raw! The rest of it tasted so bad that he ended up throwing it into the trash. This is the second time we have received poor meat or poorly prepared meat. One time before, I had ordered the ribs. Big portion; unfortunately, one end of the portion was all fat - I spit it out after taking a mouthful. The rest of it had meat that tasted awful - don't know if it was the cooking or if it was just a bad piece of meat. The order last night came to over $40.00. We will never order from your restaurant again and certainly would never recommend it to anyone. I would suggest you get some decent meat and some decent chefs. read more

Very disappointed. Evidently there is a tournament that involves the cooks and the waitresses and it was hard to get service. When we finally got the service and ordered our meals they were cold because all the cooks and waitresses were in the tournament trying to win the money.!!!!! read more

Wow! This place is genuinely not good. I save 1 star and 5 star for truly exceptional... I didn't know how much smoke can be trapped in one place, it's like they are proud of the haze. Cool neighborhood bar. Good food and a friendly staff. The only issue is the smoke gets thick when the place is busy.

I went two weeks ago, alone after work. Seems the waitress knew all the people in the bar but me. She made it clear waiting on me was not want she wanted to do. I did like my food and my beer was cold but not as cold as the bartender. Her service and the fact the place smells like a cigarette will keep me and my money away. I did leave the bartender .25 cent tip for the simple fact she was breathing. read more
