Came in for some music tonight. Ended up getting some dinner. My husband and I shared the fried ravioli, pretzel bites, and chicken tenders with steak fries. Bar service only but they deliver the food to the table. I'm a pretzel bite snob. These were ok. A bit over cooked, over salted but the stone ground mustard was very good. The fried ravioli was excellent. Chicken tenders weren't anything special but the steak fries were great. I'd skip the pretzels next time. The pool room apparently allows smoking. Honestly, my expectations for the bar just from driving by it every day, were extremely low. I thought it might be a dirty, biker bar. So, we were kind of wary about what we were walking into when we went to watch the super bowl. BUT it's really clean and the service was great! They have good snacks and good prices and deals! They have so many games and cute bathrooms. The crowd skewed younger than I expected and no one made me uncomfortable. I actually really enjoyed myself! My ONLY cons were: - the audio during the super bowl kinda sucked, especially for the parts you wanted to hear like the halftime performance and the ads. Rude Patrons, bartenders constantly on thier phones and clearly intoxicated. Dive bar I get, thats why I came here. I spent 15 years all over the Hospitality industry. Karaoke and NASCAR, what a country! The Rusty Nail was a last minute stop after a night in downtown. This is a typical dive bar. Smokey, cheap drinks and ok bar food. The place was empty when we got here, but I could see this place being full on a Friday or Saturday. My buddy and I went with a few vodka sodas and on the bartenders recommendation, we got a plate of fried buffalo shrimp and fries. This plate of food was actually pretty good! The shrimp were spicy and crispy and the fries were very fresh. There's a smoking section outside, but they leave the doors open and the smell creeps in. This was annoying and I can only imagine how smokey it gets on a busy night. I probably wouldn't go out of my way to come back here, but it's an ok option for a starter drink before heading elsewhere or a night cap! read more

Was looking forward to my first visit, on my 21st birthday. Sadly disappointing. I arrived at 7:30 sober, and was looking forward to buying my first legal drink. Was refused service with a paper id obtained yesterday morning on the date of my birthday from the dmv. Attempted to show valid hard copy id, that matched the temporary id. Was denied. Bartender rudely send me to outside patio. Unfortunately, I rode with a friend whose boyfriend was playing that night. A few minutes after i was sent to the patio, The bartender came outside and told me i had to leave the premise. I attempted a second time to show her a valid id, at which point she deemed it "didn't matter". Very upset and stranded, i called my dad to ask for his advice. My dad called the establishment 13 times. After no success, He guided me through how to walk back in and ask for a managers help. Too shaken up, my friend agreed to go in on my behalf to help resolve the situation. Unfortunately the manager chose the defend the bartender without speaking to me directly, As i was stranded outside on the curb. The primary reason i am leaving this review is to warn future young girls who may find theirselves in a similar situation. As well as to inform the general manager through transparency. The bartender was rude. I work in the restaurant industry and would never treat my patrons in this fashion and, because i do respect the restaurant industry i feel like the manager deserves to know. read more

Such a hidden gem! From the outside you wouldn't think much of the place but wow does it have character once you step inside. They have two full bars; one indoor and one outdoor. They have outdoor volleyball, pool tables, darts, live music, and much more when it comes to entertainment. Very reasonable drink prices with different drink deals every day. I would've never expected this place to have a sand volleyball court in the back of their bar. You walk in through the front and it's a little dark & sketchy. Definitely a dive type bar, but you continue walking through the side and you'll get to sunlight. I had a couple Jameson and sprites and ordered their chicken tenders. I like that they use actual potatoes for their potato chips, but it would've tasted better if they weren't soggy. Or maybe they're supposed to be served like that...who knows. I would prefer a tad crispier. The tenders were ok. After two pieces, I had enough. It was mainly full of breading. Again, I only came bc my sister was here. This is a really good place to go on a Sunday apparently. When we first got there, it was pretty empty, but it filled up really quickly. The pub food is refreshingly good! We ordered the chicken wings and the fried pickles. Healthy right? The band that played was awesome, and we had a lot of fun dancing. It's a pretty open floor plan, and they have a nice sitting area outside as well so there is plenty of room for the crowds. My husband and I went there for the first time last weekend. I can honestly say it was one of the best bars I've been to in Nashville. Everyone, especially the staff, was crazy nice and friendly. The place looks so unassuming from the outside, but it's super cool inside. Nice DJ/Dance floor area inside, side area for chilling with dart boards and TVs, and a kick ass deck and tiki bar out back overlooking the sand volleyball court. Couple of things I'll throw out there as an FYI. All of the doors where open, including garage doors, so it was a bit steamy. Smoking allowed outside, but with the door situation it might as well be allowed everywhere. There is a significant shift from day to night. Afternoon to early evening was chill, regulars hanging out kinda thing. About 7/8PM, the party crowd comes in. Not a good or bad thing, just a heads up. They serve food which everyone said was really good, but they were having some kitchen issues and we couldn't get any. All in all, it's a great bar to grab a drink and make new friends. read more

My fav local dive. I live close and so do several of my friends. We are working professionals who enjoy meeting up for cocktails or beers a couple of times a week after a long day. Sundays and Tuesdays usually, as they have drink specials. The karaoke is fun, the volleyball is entertaining and the back patio is a great option if you want a change of scenery from inside or you don't smoke. Best dry rub wings in Nashville, for real. It's not supposed to be The Hilton, it's a dive. I am comfortable there and I have no issues with safety. I visited the bars in the area and I just think the Nail is better. I have only been going about 2 years, however, so I don't know what it was like before. The staff is always nice and friendly. They just got new tables and chairs and it looks improved. Came here on a whim with my mom while on vacation, the bartender was very nice but we had a very big issue. I am sure that the alcohol that was in the Jameson bottle was NOT Jameson and my mother's was not Titos. This bar switches out the liquor as both my mine and my mothers 1 cocktail left a horrible taste in our mouths and made us sick. read more

Let me start by saying I go to the Rusty Nail every Thursday night for the open mic comedy night and karaoke. Here are pros: They have really good food at the Nail. I suggest the pizza and the buffalo chicken dip. YUM. They have a big volley ball court outside for players. There is a lot of room there - I am seldom cramped inside. Comedy and Karaoke are really fun with friends at the Nail. Here are the cons: I recommend only getting beer at the Nail. I ordered a Jack on the rocks with a lime (my fave drink and my first drink of the evening) - the bartender did a ONE second pour and charged me over $7. Myself - and several of my friends have noticed that the bartenders seldom (if ever) give you a 4 second or two fingered pour (industry standard) on a mixed drink or straight up. Maybe the staff has been told to do so by owners to maintain the crowd and drunks - I don't know, but every single one of my friends has noticed it...I thought it was just me at first. So - it's not my imagination. Just get a beer and you won't feel robbed on a mixed drink. Atmosphere is so-so at the Nail. If you plan on participating or watching the comedy open mic - DO NOT expect a respectful, quiet audience. The crowd here is usually loud, rowdy, obnoxious, and full of hecklers. (From what I understand, the crowd is like this all week long.) However - if you want to see some comics entertain the crowd by interacting with drunks and insulting them from stage - you will not be disappointed. In fact, that's usually the highlight of the evening, and quite funny to watch. The Nail is smoking friendly, and boy is it ever smokey. Don't even bother going if you are allergic or sensitive to smoke. Best night to check out is definitely Thursdays. read more

This place is so cool... I love the patio!!!!!!! Didn't even know that was out in the back of it until recently. A huge beach volley ball court wIth tiki bar.. My kind of place!! The bar and bartenders get 5 stars. They are normally swamped when I visit so I don't expect to chat with them much, they have money to make. This review is not so much about the bar, the drinks, or the food(which is decent). It is about the owner, Don (unless I misheard his name in which case it's Dan). You'll recognize him, the 5'10", mid 60's, plump in the mid section, white come over haired guy standing behind the bar getting wasted. Coming from the line of work I do, fighting to protect people, I was especially disgusted tonight to witness what I did. After one of the female bar tenders playfully nudged him aside when he was in her way(keep in mind he was drunk and messing up the bartenders operations), he proceeded to tell her(yelling for all of us yo hear), "Don't you ever f@cking touch me! I will f@ck you up! F@ck you, you f@cking bi&ch!" All of this while right up in her face. A second female bartender attempted to calm him down and eventually pulled Don away from her. As I watched her try to calm him down, he began punching a wall, then pointing at the first female bartender, and then continually yelling, "Doesn't she know I f@cking own this bar!" He then slipped past the bartender trying to calm him down and cornered the first female bartender that "pushed" him. He began yelling in her face, "Don't you know I f@cking own this bar!?!" over and over again. She put both her hands up and tried to slip past him but he repositioned and cornered her again and continued. At this she moved again and got around him. He was then taken into a back room by the second female bartender where he remained for about 20min. When he came out he was all smiles and was grabbing the a$$ of the bartender who tool him back to the back room. Now, a very brief bit about myself. For the last decade I have been trained in reading people's mannerisms(body language) and how to read and predict what they will do next. Don, without a shadow of a doubt, has a history of physical abuse, alcohol and drug abuse, and anger issues. After pulling up his criminal record, turns out I was right. I like this bar and the bartenders, they do a fine job. Don, if you are reading this, you are giving The Rusty Nail a bad name, you are a disgrace to the human race(especially us males), and you are a coward of a human being. Stop hurting your own business, but most importantly, stop treating your staff, especially the woman, like garbage. read more

Rusty Nail has came along ways over the years. Back when it was Big Tony's you never knew what was going to happen. Now you can actually enjoy yourself and is a great place for a band or artist to reach out to a new audience. Stop in and have a drink because you never know who might walk through the doors. The Rusty Nail. I've been occasionally going to the place for years. I've watched it change names/ownership many times yet it always attracts the same crowd no matter the changes. It's an ok dive bar, you should check it out atleast once if you haven't before. They've got decent specials most the time and it's really not that expensive compared to other bars around town. There's normally a good crowd on the weekend and just regulars and a few drive-bys during the week. I wouldn't make this my number 1 spot to chill, majority of the time there's some drama that ends up with a parking lot battle. I guess that's typical with bars in the Hermitage area. Hah. I do recommend bringing some friends, it's more fun getting wasted with people you know. They've got games to keep you busy and a sand volleyball court in the back. I'm not sure how often that's going on tho, they also have live music of course. Parking space free and right out front of the building unless it's a busy night then you gotta squeeze in somewhere in the gravel lot off to the side. All in all its a straight 3 star bar.
