We were up in Arnold for the New Year and noticed the Rusty Knife. I'm always on the lookout for ammo for my 12 gauge. I cant say enough good things about this shop and the family that works at and owns the business. Emile and Rana are welcoming, friendly and simply put, good people. On my first visit, I was greeted with a welcoming smile and good conversation as if I'd been coming there for years. I've made several purchases from this store and each went smoothly and at fair prices. Yes, prices on firearms, ammunition and knives are high, but very much in-line with other retailers. Arnold, CA No guns here at the moment, but lots of knives. The owner and son (I assume) were very nice. I though I might make a splurge on some French steak knives, but they were out of stock. We did find a nice gift for a friend, a beautiful wooden handle $30 French foldable mushroom knife with a little brush on the end, never seen one before, but saw it hanging on the magnetic knife rack and it caught my eye. The owner was so nice, he knew the knife was for a gift, placed it in the original box and wrapped it before we even had to ask... and all the while continued to chat with us. Nice mom and pop shop in Arnold CA. The owners here are great people happily will answer any questions you have it's worth stopping in just to meet them. I stopped in to get my pocket knife sharpened, it is sharper now than ever, ended up leaving with a couple more great knives. A friend and I, who both have a thing for pocket knives, decided we'd stop by the Rusty Knife after we had driven by. The store has a big sofa, and people would just come by and chat it up. Emile, who has this store as part of his retirement plan, was unhurried, gracious and gave us great insights into knives. He gave me a tutorial on how to properly sharpen a knife, and how people often sharpen a knife incorrectly. He talked to my friend about the knives her father had given her, and lovingly looked her knife over. I bought a Keshaw knife, which had exactly the feel I was longing for (after my CRKT knife I always had on me and forgot to remove before a trip was taken by TSA). He had a fine selection and laid out a number of knives that he thought I'd like. He sharpened both of our knives to scalpel-like sharpness, all for free. Emile is a good guy who is more interested in your having a good experience with him and his family (who came in and out of the store) than he is on your buying one of his knives. read more

Emil gave off creepy vibes and made me feel very uncomfortable. He came off as the super sleazy salesman, crewing on his wet lit cigar and everything was overpriced. He talked over me and was no help. If you need a knife sharpened I would recommend buying a stone and some mineral oil online, watch a YouTube video or two and do it yourself. read more

Emil comes off as a Cheesy salesman. He was very rude to me and my wife. He asked her if she lost weight and I said that was very rude and that I think you owe her an apology he said that's the best compliment you can give a woman and I told him that's not how I was raised and we left. The next time I went in there he told me I owed him an apology and if I didn't apologize I am no longer welcome in the store. The gun selection is decent but way overpriced ammunition and guns. This place is way over priced.... I would never buy a firearm or ammunition from them... I recently stopped in to inquire about .22 ammunition... Was surprised when they said they had .22 ammunition in stock but understood why when I noticed it was $12.50 for 50 rounds... That's 25 cents a round.... Are u kidding me?!?!?! The employee told me they broke a brick of ammunition up to "share the wealth." It appears they are just trying to rob people of their wealth... This place apparently wants to pay its bills by over charging its customers one gun at a time rather then building a clientele base by charging fair prices... Not shure on Fire Arms, but Chef knives there carry a great amount from different ranges in prices and this is where normally I splurge adding a new kasumi Damascus to my collection. They are some what limited to what they carry for knives but can custom order witch is cool beats getting low end chef knives at walmart any day. I would give more stars if they were available. I absolutely love The Rusty Knife. Emile brought my knives back to life. My husband and I were ready to throw out about $3,000.00 worth of knives I had collected because my oldest son had decided to use the knives for anything but what they should have been used for (i.e., hammering in a nail, opening a can, somethings we can't figure out...) Anyway, he is wonderful, knowledgeable, very warm and a genuine treasure to the Arnold community. My husband and I had the pleasure of meeting Emile's wife last Sunday when I was dropping off some more knives for his care, they are so wonderful together. Us four talked and talked, it was more than just a knife experience, it was like being in my grandmother's kitchen on a Sunday afternoon getting ready for the family supper. Was reading a few reviews before writing mine. Sounds to me like a lot of people are some soft haters with no money! Emile is a really funny guy, he has a sense of humor. Most gun store owners are assholes, Emile is really funny and easy to talk to. (Gives Good life advice to). Randy is really cool to. They both know what they are talking about. Gun and amo are fairly priced considering being in the mountains (in the middle of nowhere) when I got my gun Emile gave me a box of amo for free. (Can't do that anymore since the new amo law took place) Every time I come up I grab a few boxes and targets and I have fun behind white pines lake. Family's of all ages are welcome in the store to look around. They got a lot of cool knifes to! Emile is a really good sharpener. He made my pocket knife unbelievably sharp. (For Free) I will be up this weekend and will for sure make my stop to The Rusty Knife! read more

I just bought a leatherman multi-tool, and ended up paying 40% over the msrp. I don't mind paying a bit more to support local business, but that kind of mark-up is outrageous. When I mentioned that I saw the same knife for around $50 elsewhere, Emil shook his head and said no, $69.95 is the correct price. So buyer beware! WOW ! This dude knows his stuff! Emile has to be the best knife sharpener on the planet. I have lots of knives for hunting fishing etc.. He took all of them regardless of the type of steel they are and put a razor (shaving) edge on them. The customer service there is impecable as well. He really wants to help you , not just make a buck in a small town. Emile is good people for sure. I even shipped him some knives I had , because I didn't have time to drive up there and have it done . He sharpened them and sent them out the same day. I had the pleasure of meeting Emile at his shop on a recent trip to Arnold. After a pleasant conversation I mentioned I had an old 10" Bowie that was badly tarnished and wouldn't take an edge. He told me to send it over and he would take care of it. I contacted him when I got back to Valencia and to his credit, he asked me to send him some pictures of the knife so that he could get an idea of its condition and what he could for it. We agreed on getting the work done and I sent it to him. In less than week I had a completely "rejuvenated" Bowie - thoroughly cleaned up, oiled handle and a razor edge! Well worth the $20.00 cost. Most of us who don't come from "the City" embrace firearm ownership as a right, and a way of life, and don't mind the fact that he uses signs to advertise, just like any other business. I went to The Rusty Knife because I wanted to shop local. I went there and found a gun I liked even though it was a higher price. I decided that I want to get to know Emile the owner. So I bought the gun and took it out to shoot it.The gun would not fire correctly so, I brought it back and they told me to pick up the box and will send it back to the manufacturer. So I got the box brought it back and told him to give a call there's any problems. And that's when the problem started. Emile phone me back and told me that the gun was packed with grease and had to be completely disassembled clean and that that is standard procedure and that everybody knows that. I said you never told me that when I purchased it. And he said that will be $100 I told him I did not authorize any work that he worked to be done. He is a cheesy weasel I wouldn't buy a cap gun from him and it'll only be a matter of time before is out of business and his licenses is suspended. read more
