Beautiful little stop for a nice lunch! We sat outside, which was absolutely beautiful....got to see this gorgeous blue bird at the table next to us. The food is served in dispisable containers, but that is ok as we are outside and it does not take away from the food. If that bothers you, sit inside. Good food if it doesn't take over an hour to get an appetizer. My son's food came out after everyone else was finished. It was a burger. . Half of us had cold fries, the other half had hot fries. Very strange. We had a completely different experience the first time visiting a week prior. We definitely won't be back. Nobody ever came to our table to update us. We had to stop someone every 20 minutes or so to see what was going on. The calamari was surprisingly great the first time and cold the second time. You wouldn't expect great calamari at a diner in the mountains but it did not disappoint. The Smokey chipotle dip was paired nicely. The staff offered zero refills the first hour we waited for food. I would name this place Jekyll and Hyde Three stars for the waiter not named Wyatt for trying to bail Wyatt out. We still left 15%. It would have been a lot more if he had done anything to make us feel welcome. read more

Unfortunately there are not many redeeming qualities for this restaurant. The only pros include it's the only restaurant in the area and the outside seating area has a nice view. The staff were friendly but we're absent most of the meal, we had to ask for refills and condiments, waited over 40 minutes for our food and when we got it, it was cold and greasy. Everything is served on paper plates and become see through with the amount of grease. Plastic cups and plastic utensils are also provided. Biscuits were doughy, eggs underdone, and hash browns burnt. You'll save time and get a better meal if you just continue down the road a bit. read more

We stopped for breakfast on a Monday morning. The food was good and service was attentive. There seemed to be a church sermon via a high volume TV playing on the adjacent room. After spending a few hours at Soda Springs Resort for some snow fun, the wife, kiddo and I were hungry. A 15 minute drive to Emigrant Gap and we hit up this very cozy diner-style restaurant. The decor in the dining rooms feels like you're in someone's home. We grabbed a nice table next to a window to enjoy the snowy scene outside. Little one has cheese quesadilla with fries . Of course the fries were a hit. The wife ordered a chorizo breakfast burrito. We were both blown away at how huge it was. I was the driver with a few hour of road ahead so went with something light - half soup / half sandwich - and a coffee. The house coffee was actually quite good and really hit the spot after a day of snow activities. The butternut squash soup was ok. Quite thick and filling. Felt almost like a chili. The BLT was fine as well, can't really go wrong with a BLT. Wife also made me eat half the burrito and it was good but I walked away waaaay too stuffed. 5 star atmosphere and service. 5 star price. 4 star taste. read more

We tried a bunch of dishes, like BBQ ribs, chorizo burrito, grilled brie (could use more grilling and bread), triple decker cheese, and clam chowder soup--all of them were delicious! Dropped by here on our way to our hiking trail in Tahoe. There's indoor and outdoor seating. Good choice for brunch. We ordered the Rustic Breakfast and the Breakfast Sliders. For the Rustic Breakfast, my boyfriend ordered sausage links (nice and juicy), country potatoes (small bite sized pieces that were easy to eat), eggs, and sourdough bread. Simple and well priced. I had the Breakfast Sliders with their sausage patties, eggs, (I think they're made in-house), with Swiss cheese, and country potatoes. One slider was enough for me. I was stuffed by the time I was done. Water was super fresh and clean. Great customer service. This is a great place for family. Bring your dog if you're sitting outside. To start, there was a church service going on in the restaurant. We were sat but, unless you want to listen to the loudest people worshiping while you are trying to figure out breakfast... I would stay away on Wednesdays. The server was very rude. The food service was extremely slow. And the food was disgusting. My son got a stack of burnt pancakes, I had slimy French toast, my wife had burnt biscuits with ok sausage gravy. Cute place. Service was fine. My husband's breakfast was good, eggs, hash browns and sausage. I had pancakes with eggs and sausage. First thing that happened was waiter spilled the syrup all over my eggs. Returned it right away. Brought back the pancakes and they were tuff and almost on the cold side. Eggs came out and were slightly overcooked. Also a bible study of some kind going on in bar area. Just a little distracting. read more

We liked the food but the service was unexpectedly bad. They got us seated then for at least 10-15 minutes. No greeting or waters. Than after 15 minutes the server asked if anybody took our order said he will but waited another 5-10 minutes before he took our order. Served our food after like 15-20 minutes. Then I asked the server twice for an extra utensils because he only gave us 3 and there was 5 of us. I don't like to be rude to people that handle our food so I was being nice and calm. He said sorry I'm by myself right now and I said how about just a napkin and he said it might be a minute. What happened to ok customer service let alone said yeah it's gonna have to wait for a dang napkin. Never once we were asked how we were doing. Saw another couple that were waiting to be seated for a while and when they say down themselves it was like 15 minutes and they just walked out. I understand you're busy plus it wasnt packed , it was like more than half full at the restaurant but you don't explain why your customer service sucks like that. Food was good though. read more

Super tasty food with a lovely view, great service, and crazy low prices. Brisket mac n cheese was an absolute guilty pleasure--brisket wasn't perfect but the portion was huge with great flavor from BBQ sauce+cheese. Fish and chips was enough to feed 2; fish was fried well. Calamari was also really nice--just the right amount of breading, not oily, and I liked the chewiness. Melted brie was awesome with lots of dried fruit and nuts. Choc milkshake was big and yummy! We look forward to stopping by again on our next trip to Tahoe! read more

What an awesome little find of a restaurant! We were staying at snowflower rv resort and didn't feel like cooking so we found this little gem! The waiter was the most friendly person I have seen at a restaurant in a long time. The food is super reasonable and very family friendly. They even have family bathrooms with changing tables. The vanilla latte was delicious and they have a whole coffee menu. My husband got the build your own omelette and loved it. Took the kids for pit stop on the way back from Tahoe. Ordered a fish n chips, fish tacos and a burger. Excellent food. Food took a while, but they gave the kids coloring pages to keep themselves busy. The burger was soft and juicy, the fish tacos were two thumbs up and the fish and chips were soft and fresh. Fruit was also freshly cut and not the run off the mill soggy crap you get at other places... Had really low expectations, but this was a home run. read more

Have been trying to get to this out-in-middle-of-nowhere restaurant for a couple of years ago. Have always wondered if they are still in business and it looks as though they are. Stopped for breakfast and ordered my standard reference breakfast dish: a breakfast burrito. Above average taste, loved the green peppers for something different, but somewhat dry. Was surprised that cheese choices were limited to: pepperjack, Swiss, and cheddar. Monterey jack would have been welcomed. Salsa had a moderate kick. Unfortunately the preparation had much to be desired as parts of the burrito were cold (stored in a refrigerator?) while other parts of the burrito were at best warm. In no way could the burrito be described as hot. As I was only having a couple of bites and saving the rest for later meals (actually ended up being eaten for 2 1/2 meals - yay), no reason to send it back to the kitchen. However I did bring the cool temperatures to the attention of the sole waiter/host. Didn't apologize, didn't attempt to correct the situation, rather merely said "I'll tell him in the kitchen." :-( I may try again to stop by again but will be easy enough to pass up for a restaurant in Colfax or Reno due to the lackluster attitude of the waitstaff. read more

Best service I've ever had in my entire life. The moment you walked in, there were some treats such as peppermints and Skittles sitting on a table. The waiters were kind, caring, attentive, and genuine as well as going out of their way to accommodate customers. The ambience is cozy, friendly, and creates a familiar atmosphere. We saw this on a billboard on our last trip to Reno and told ourselves to try it the next time we came up. That happened this past weekend. We arrived for lunch on a Friday. The dang GPS made us go way out of our way when we should have just taken the Emigrant Gap exit. It is about a mile or two off that exit. There was only two other couples there when we arrived so we were seated at the round table near the bar. The menu had quite a variety of anything you could want from breakfast to entrees. Finally settled on the chicken tomato basil pasta and my husband ordered the Lumberjack burger because it had pastrami and bacon on it. My pasta came with soup or salad and I chose the veggie soup. The soup was homemade. I enjoyed all the veggies but it could have used some more salt and pepper. The pasta had a very good flavor and the chicken was seasoned well. The burger was HUGE and one of the tastiest burgers ever. Their fries were also very good and better than your average frozen. They had some seasoning that made it very flavorful. The service was nice and friendly. I overheard the bartender tell another couple about the history of the place and showed them around a little. I thought that was nice. The surroundings is absolutely beautiful and peaceful. They have a lodge next door that would be nice to do for a night and just hang out here. My only gripe was that our meal took 30 mins to arrive without follow up. Normally I would drop a star for this but everything else was so great, I will give them the benefit of the doubt because the food was worth waiting for. SO good! Lastly, there is absolutely NO signal for AT&T so I could not do a check in when I was here. read more

We were sat and had our drink order taken (3 waters) and then I think our waiter was sucked into an interdimensional void since that was the last time I saw him. We had time to decide our oder, use the restroom which was out of toilet paper, get angry, decide to leave, find another restaruant and then bail before anybody came out to check on any table outside. Easily a time span of 20 minutes between our drink order and leaving without any staff ever checking on any of the 5 parties dining outside and at least 10 minutes went by before anybody put more toilet paper in the bathroom. The food might be great but grab some tacos before you try to eat here, if you're stuffed when you arrive you'll probably be hungry by the time your food shows up. read more

Possibly the worst meal I've had in years. One salad had a beetle in it, the food took forever, the servers were nowhere to be found. The food was so oversalted it was unbelievable. No condiments given with the burger and fries, you had to go get it off another table. We were never checked up on, no drinks refilled. When we asked to leave we were ignored while the server flirted with a customer for 10 minutes. No idea how this place has even a two star rating. read more

We stumbled upon this restaurant when in search for another, and glad we did! We got there about a half hour before closing, and lucky for us we happened to be the last customers of the night. Rubin took care of us as if we were his first customers of the day, we got to chat with him and ask questions on this restaurant being a hidden Jem! He educated us on the history of not only the building, but the buisness and his own personal partake in it all. It was really quiet amazing learning about everything that just comes of this restaurant and is used in so many life changing ways. What a little gem. I stumbled upon this restaurant and was pleasantly surprised. It is run by Teen Challenge, an organization that helps people get off whatever they are addicted to and turn their lives around. Ruben was our waiter and had an incredible and sad story with a happy ending. Such a pleasant young man who picked himself up, cleaned up, and made a better life for himself. So incredibly happy for him. I had the fish tacos which Ruben recommended. They were very good. My lunch partner had an omelette and some of their homemade sausage gravy.
