    Beef brisket hash

A most pleasant experience. Following the recommendation of another Yelper, I tried the beef brisket hash. The portions are generous, I didn't finish. The beef is tender and tasty, and the eggs! They must source these locally. Just look at the colour of the yolks! Perfectly cooked. The hollandaise was nicely acidic, and not overly rich. The hash had a great mix of crunchy and soft. The restaurant itself was clean and comfortable, nothing much to note. The service was excellent! Friendly, attentive and efficient.

We were visiting Victoria on a Wednesday so there was no line up for brunch! They were still fairly busy though. I had the Smoked Beef Brisket Eggs Benny and it was served on a flaky croissant! The beef brisket was very tender and came with a nice BBQ sauce. I had the eggs soft poached and they were perfect. My friend had the Breakfast Tacos that I didn't try but they were pretty stuffed and she said they were good. Both dishes came with home fries that were very crispy. They have so many options on the menu! Wish I could've tried their waffles as well.

Determine to avoid the frigid cold. I came downstairs to order breakfast to go and eat in my hotel room. Sooo good! Scrambled eggs cooked easy. Thick cut bacon. And fried potatoes with rye/pumpernickel bread. Service was super friendly as I walked into this restaurant pajama clad just as they opened. Ordered my breakfast to go and it was packed so nicely in a to go container. I was offered a tray for my oj and coffee. The eggs were cooked perfectly "easy", not runny. The potatoes so good and fried. The bacon was super thick and crispy! The green salsa was so spicy. But delicious. Black coffee hot and fresh. I'd like to come back and try their mimosas next time. Happy yelping.

Food- This is a pretty good lunch stop for some beef brisket or rotisserie chicken dishes! I would say it's pretty good, but nothing too special foodwise. We ordered the rotisserie chicken soup, chicken salad, and beef brisket tacos. Note: they do prepare their rotisserie chicken in a special way and it comes from a farm a few hours from Victoria! This is what they are known for!! Looks/cleanliness- Everything is very clean and spacious! There is a ton of indoor seating and they are doing amazing with Covid-19 safety set up. Each table is separated by a plastic divider. Service- Amazing service!! Our waitress was so sweet and gave us recommendations for tourist spots to stop by!

The food is SPECTACULAR!!! The service is magnificent and the convenience of it being downstairs of the Best Western Plus Carlton Plaza Hotel. This is where you want to stay ~

A solid brunch spot in Victoria. The vibe of the restaurant is great, with classic songs playing directly from vinyls. Service was good, the waiters and waitresses were all very sweet and personable. Food wise I thought it was okay, it was pretty heavy but not super flavorful. It was overall good though, and I would be down to come here again!

Such extravagant meal choices! The server was so friendly and efficient. Had a bit of a waitlist and every great place will but not sure if it's "wait for an hour great"

Three words for you. Beef brisket hash!! It's a hearty breakfast, but do yourself a favor and get this. This place doesn't have a lot of reviews on Yelp, so I thought it wouldn't be too crowded when my friend and I walked up around 9:30 on a Sunday morning. Of course, it was hopping and there were a couple of groups in front of us. We waited about 20 minutes which isn't too bad. There's plenty of seating inside, and each table is divided by plastic screens. They offer both brunch and lunch items, but I went straight for the brunch side. I've seen corned beef hash on many brunch menus but never a beef brisket hash ($18.95). I love brisket and I love hashes, so this sounded like it was made for me! I ordered it with poached eggs and chicken gravy instead of hollandaise sauce. It took us ~30 minutes to get our food. I assume the kitchen was backlogged on orders. I freaking loved my dish! The brisket was super tender and fatty and melted in my mouth, and the hash and eggs complemented it super well. I was so happy the entire meal, I couldn't stop smiling. Why isn't this a thing at other brunch place?? This meal made up for the subpar brunch I had the previous day. Also something to keep in mind: the portions are no joke; even though I was starving when I walked in, I couldn't finish the last of the hash. My friend ordered the breakfast sandwich ($14) and initially didn't like it because it was too cheesy. I don't blame him, there was a whole thing of crispy cheddar cheese sticking out of it. Once he removed that, he enjoyed it a lot more. That's completely personal preference though. I'll be back for another brunch next time I'm in Victoria!

If you're close to Ruby's then it's a must go! I went there with a group for breakfast and the food was sooo delicious! I would highly recommend any of their beef brisket dishes! I wish I stayed in Victoria longer so I got to try more dishes.

Over spring break I spend less than 10 hours in Victoria and The Ruby set the tone for a magical day. I had a mimosa with my omelette, potatoes, and toast. My breakfast was just to my liking and fueled me for a day of walking and sightseeing. The staff was lovely and the restrooms are shared with the lobby of the posh hotel next door. Hoping to go back to Canada soon!

Ambiance was great - super warm and welcoming which was magnified by the host. Super lovely. Then the wait staff. Whoever is hiring/training is doing a great job! Not drinking right now but the cocktail menu was super tempting. Every menu item sounded great. We got some help on ordering from our servers and Tanya picked ones she had enjoyed before. We also sat right beside the pick up window so it was fun seeing food come out! The food was fantastic. See pictures for what we ordered. We are big fans of traditional fare, but the Block is a place we are so glad we experienced and will certainly return utilizing the knowledge we garnered during our first experience. A big thank you to for helping us through picking one price fixe January exploration of your local restaurants and filling it with other ala carte additions. As we often do we ordered far too much food, wanting to explore everything off a menu that is far reaching. Not sure if our additions worked with the price fixe menu, but we sure enjoyed checking everything out. The interior is interesting with the addition of structural steel in the space to keep this heritage building (I think) standing tall for a few generations. We sure hope it's still here for a long while and will most likely come again the next time we are in Victoria. That is saying a lot as there are a wide range of restaurants in the neighbourhood, but you do want to check the Block out!

The salmon main was absolutely delicious. The salmon roe added a texture were your mouthful just popped. The duck main was cooked perfectly. Did not taste gamey. The black rice or risotto in this dish was very tasty. The dessert of Panna cotta was delicious and had a citrus finish. The dessert feature of rhubarb cake was just meh. The white frosting had no taste and was thick on the cake. You finish out the meal with some jellies and some caramel Service was good but here is the reason for the low rating.... The main of the flat iron with arugala on the top with fries. They plated it and served it with a slug in it. The slug fell from inside the salad onto the plate . A baby slug. But it was living and moving. What followed was poor response and gaslighting of which this restaurant should be ashamed. In order not to disgust the others I stopped a woman that was working the floor to remove the plate. When I pointed to the slug why gave a small chuckle and half smile and stated, "well, it is farm to table." That is gaslighting. Right there that was a poor response. I see signs saying Michelin on this restaurant, but really...if you had served a slug to a someone rating you for a Michelin, you think you would get that rating? Highly doubtful. That should never have been served. Yes the restaurant cooked another meal which took longer. They cooked it just fine too....however their lackluster and empty words of well we do say it's farm to table doesn't replace an apology or an assurance of we will do better.

The atmosphere was alright with dimmer lighting than other similar places which was nice for the mood, and the place was surprisingly louder than expected for the little people that were there. The waitress we had was friendly and nice, but also came by frequently to ask if we were done looking at the menu, with our food, wanting the bill. It felt very rushed despite there not being many other customers in the area. We were only in the restaurant for about 45 minutes today. The food was mediocre. I had the fried chicken and waffles, which looked good but tasted generic. The fried chicken was a bit dry and just tasted like it was seasoned with salt and pepper and that's about it. The waffle tasted like something anyone could make at home. My friend had the Caesar salad, which was drenched in sauce but otherwise looked alright. Overall, the food is on the pricier side, relative to the portion size being served. Expect to spend at least $30 to be full, not including drinks and dessert.
