I went with friends yesterday. We did the lobster fest menu. My salad was really bad but their food looked good (lobster roll and lobster grilled cheese). Don't get a salad here. The avocado was bad. It was green but tasted like ut had no flavour / was off. There were canned mandarins on the salad. For $28 can they put fresh mandarins on it? There was an enormous pile of arugula I couldn't get through (maybe 6 cups) and it wash't fresh.Cucumbers looked liked they'd been cut the day before. Don't get a salad here. read more

Great food, great service. We sat ourselves and one got the steak pie and he liked it. My husband and I got Onion rings with their garlic house sauce and quesadillas which were great and we also got the nachos. Paid over 30 dollars for a large fry Ordered a 375mL 40% of Smirnoff Vodka and a large fry on 2021-06-26 - Received a large fry and a single bottle of Smirnoff 5% instead. Returned it to the establishment as requested (After they themselves admitted the mistake on their part) and never received my money back. Essentially paid for delivery, no drinks(due to sending it back), and a very small amount of fries at a cost of $37.14. This is the only review I have ever done for any restaurant, and I hope it remains that way, to remember never to order from this place again in my life Seeing as I have no other real recourse, I'm posting this review here, because I feel anyone contemplating using this establishment and trusting that they follow through... well, don't. This place is not a pub, it is a retirement home. If you want to go out, have a good time, listen to good music and enjoy yourself with friends, this place is NOT for you. Not only is every patron in the place 60+ but the staff, especially the GM (Kevin?) have become so out of touch for what a Royal Oak should be, if you look like you are enjoying yourself in any way you get "spoken to". We went 5 of us on a Friday night, 7:00 pm, place was empty except for a few, obviously drunk much older regulars at the bar, one table of older ladies in the dining area and one table of 30 somethings. That's it, the place was sooooo dead. There was a musician there, solo guitarist, that could not WAIT to get the hell out of that empty place, spoke to him on a smoke break, said he wont be back, can't blame him, and while we tried to enjoy the music and have a few pints, any time we spoke above a whisper we got "spoken to". The only thing good about the place was the fish and chips, the only thing entertaining was watching the "bro" bartender trying to pick-up the blond waitress, but she was more interested in her iPhone then in him, can't blame her for being on her phone, not like there was really anything for her to do. Steak & ale pie, the overall impression was quite salty, the beef was tough to bite into inteas of tender. Not very tasty. I've had much better rendition from the Spar Cafe in Olympia, Washington, United States where the steak was really tasty with ale, the beef tender, every bite delicious. Lumpy mashed potatoes tasted real from their bangers and mash. Shepherds pie misnamed as it's made with ground beef, is cottage pie, was decent, but nothing special. Despite being a little hesitant based on reviews I've read, we finally got around to dropping by. We went for a late lunch, so it wasn't too busy. We sat outside on the small patio. It can be a little tricky getting in and out of your chair with the low umbrellas and the somewhat tight layout. The beer selection is ok, with something that would likely appeal to both craft and non-craft beer drinkers. The beer prices aren't too bad, especially if you catch one of their daily specials. The food is a little pricey compared to other similar chains, but it was good and hot. We both ordered burgers and fries. The service was great. Our server was attentive and saved us a few bucks by pointing out a beer special. I'd go again, but my preference is still the other nearby brew pub. ;) read more

We were a group of 20 ppl on a Saturday night and we could not have chosen a better place!! We sat upstairs and the food and service were excellent! I had the steak salad and I was nicely surprised, it was large and very fresh. My husband loved the Halibut fish and chip and I also tried the chicken wings which were great with the right touch of hotness!! The treat however was the live music!! We were entertained all evening by the fantastic saxophone of Peter Woods and guitarist and vocals of Chris Jackson! They really made the evening special! I would recommend this place to everyone, whether it be a date night or a group celebration!! I think it may be the best kept secret of Ottawa!! read more

Your standard pub in a box, which isn't a bad thing. It's the latest in the Royal Oak chain of pubs in the area, situated right at in the New Edinburgh area. Great location and the inside is lovely and clean. The staff are friendly and allowed us to try the beer before we ordered a full pint. Probably the best casual pub in the area now and we will more than likely become regulars. read more

We went at 6pm on a sunny weekday. Sat at a table on the 1/3 full patio. There seemed to be 2 servers working the patio, who disappeared for minutes at a time, to where? Waited 10 minutes for the gum-chewing waiter to bring menus. Oh, you want drink menus too? Another 5 minute wait. Another 5 minute wait for him to come back. We ordered drinks and watched him disappear back inside. We waited 10 more minutes then walked over to the Clock Tower Pub and had our drinks there 5 minutes later. read more

If you're pissed off your face, stop in here and swig some mediocre lager while eating nachos and watching darts. It was at this point that he disappeared. Nary a word the entire time I ate, but at least he was having a good time talking to the two bartenders and other servers at the bar. Fine. Whatever. The bill however proved more complicated. I sat for 12 minutes and made direct eye contact with the two bartenders and the hostess while waiting to pay for my meal. I had to ask the hostess for the receipt, as my aforementioned server had ghosted. Having received the paper with payment card in hand, I waited another 7 minutes for someone to collect my payment. They clearly did not want my money. First time in a long time I've left a bad tip. Place was half empty so there was no reason for the spotty service. Twice I was told they were too busy to accomodate me. Once when i wanted take out. So i went to the Crown Victoria. Then i went back and stood at the door to be told that they had many reservations and werent sure if they could seat us. Tables did not get filled until we were gone. Lacking in customer service. They turned away a group of 9 of us after our Tuesday softball game when there was plenty of space both in the restaurant and on the patio. Sure, it may have taken a bit of effort to rearrange some tables, but we could have fit nicely. It seemed more that we were turned away out of their sheer laziness to move tables around. This was surprising to us, really, considering we were 9 people ready to eat meals and drink alcohol - isn't that what restaurants want? I understand we didn't have a reservation, but surely they could have accommodated us - there was tons of space and yet zero effort made or interest to help! Anyway, this ended up being a good thing because it led us to the Clocktower down the street which was even busier than the Oak, but happy to accommodate our group - our appreciation to them reflected in our tips.
