Unfortunately, this was no longer on the menu but we thought we'd give something else a try...starting with French fries (these were good). Then we shared the carnitas sandwich and delicata squash. Both of these items have a lot of potential, but the chef missed the mark. The carnitas sandwich was 95% fat and we couldn't eat it. When we let the waitress know (not expecting anything other than providing feedback), she seemed annoyed but proceeded to provide a discount to accommodate us. Shifting to the squash...it's spicy. We are certain cayenne was used, even though the menu list pomegranate molasses...the skins weren't removed and overall just wasn't something we'd recommend. We left most of the bowl behind. Anyways. The menu does appear like it has potential just needed more TLC when making the food. We appreciate the wait staff trying to make up for the negative experience with the food, but also would appreciate the attentiveness from the waitress. They did seem short staffed, so she may have been stressed out but when a customer provided feedback...maybe take it more graciously? Overall, this feels like typical resort food. So if your into that type of food, enjoy!

Every bit of food was prepared just right. We did eat a pineapple salad that was so fresh and crisp and not overly dressed, which was on the Specials menu. The coup de grâce was the dessert. The ice cream of the day, which was an maple gingersnap flavor was outstanding, and carrot cake was hands down the best I have had in my life! The service was good, fast and efficient. If you are looking for a very good, but not inexpensive meal, we would absolutely recommend Harrison's.

We waited about 15 minutes for a table. Not bad at all!! Our server was energetic and accommodating. She cheerfully answered all our questions and honored our request to get a margherita pizza as an appetizer. The aforementioned pizza arrived in no time. It was good. Not the best ever, but still quite solid. The star of the culinary show was the salmon entree. Both my wife and I got it and we both loved it. It was a big piece of wood fired salmon and came with a nice assortment of roasted veggies. I'm talking real veggies--zucchini, broccoli, fingerling potatoes, the works. Neither one of us are big drinkers, but there are LOTS of microbrews on tap if you're into that kind of thing. The dining room was lively without being too noisy. Both of us enjoyed hanging out there. It would be a great place to have a beer and watch baseball on TV. Will definitely return the next time I'm in town.

We got the Gorgonzola crusted filet mignon as well as the chicken Caesar salad and it was truly a 10/10 meal! It was a wonderful, "old school" Italian American restaurant with some really awesome food (and service). Most everything we ordered was really tasty -- from appetizers all the way to dessert. Standouts included the Escargot and Burrata (apps), the Carbonara and Mushroom Fettuccine (entrées), and the Chocolate Torte and Tartufo (desserts). The only item I'd skip next time was the Manicotti. It was a bit too rich, and the duck wasn't very recognizable (overpowered by the other ingredients). As for service, it was really first rate! Our waiter was super knowledgeable about the menu and was very attentive. Final thoughts: If you're looking for a quiet, enjoyable experience, check out Trattoria. And don't be thrown off by the large footprint of the restaurant. 4.8 S T A R S The…read moreRestaurant (or Dining Room) at Edson Hill is the type of restaurant where you are 100% happy and actually feel so good to pay every single penny for the meal, the service and the ambiance. I will call it the Edson Hill "experience." Found ever so randomly through a Google search (and really just booked for Christmas dinner--whatever restaurant we could find!), we ended up actually going the following day, for an early dinner, as our last dinner out in Stowe. The 2.6 mile drive down the local, rural road off (Mountain) the main road is what can only be described as a combination of spooky yet mildly thrilling. There was no snow on the ground, but even with blacktop conditions, the road can seem slightly treacherous to some. There were lights of beautiful, big houses in the woodsy distance, but by and large, it is a dark drive at night. So there's that. (I do think that it's probably a very beautiful drive on a beautiful sunny late spring or summer day.) We finally arrive and park in the parking lot. The establishment (much what seemed like all buildings in Stowe are around the holidays) was decked out and lit up beautifully on the outside. The main entrance was not all that conspicuous looking but we opened it and were immediately greeted by a nice man who showed us towards the hostess area. The two hostesses were very friendly, took our coats and showed us to our table. We passed through this incredibly cozy living room space, where what I could assume a guest at the Edson Hill house was relaxing by the fireplace with a book and glass of wine. We stepped into the beautifully decorated Winter Dining Area / Room, where we were the first ones to be seated. It felt like it was our very own private gorgeous space! I absolutely loved the decor and the ambiance was so inviting, cozy yet stylistic in a rustic-chic Vermont way. Margot was our waitress and she was so kind and friendly, helpful along the way with recommendations and eager to answer any questions we had. She also gave us some recommendations for some last minute local Vermont gifts and goodies (think cheese, chocolate, jams, pickles, spicy sauces and of course, MAPLE SYRUP). We ordered 2 non-alcoholic beverages which were delicious and refreshing. Everything at Edson Hill is also locally sourced, as you can see at the bottom of their menu. We had the cheese board - the pickles and pickled carrots paired perfectly with the 4 different cheese we had. The fresh bread was a big hit too, brought out literally seconds before from the oven. The swordfish was so delicious and we also shared the arugula-beet salad. My only slight complaint with my salad was that it was supposed to have candied pecans, which in my opinion, really make the salad extraordinary. There were only about 3 pecans in total. So that was a bummer. We also had hoped the desert that Margot had sold us on would have been a little bit better than it actually was, though it wasn't horrible or anything. 9/10 recommend for an exquisite place! If you can stay here too, I'm sure that is just as divine as the dining experience. Will be returning for sure once back in beautiful Stowe, VT.

We wanted to hit some of their top breweries. A friend who had been last year said his favorite was Idletyme so we hit their first. We wandered through the inside areas in to the back area. That's the spot. Underneath the canopy of trees there sits a long wooden bar. The vibe that day was ideal with the sunlight cutting through the leaves. I got their pilsner and it was the best beer of the trip. An excellent subtle tasty golden beverage. We moved on shortly after to the next spot but I had to agree that Idletyme was the spot. I plan to make it back to Stowe again soon, and Idletyme will be one of my first stops.
