Really good! Expensive AF , though, so be ready to drop a hundo per person. Drinks were tasty.

This was our second time at Parson's Dinner House and food, service and atmosphere were excellent. Prior to apps they bring complimentary tortilla chips, hummus, salsa verde, and corn bread. Each so good. Order their special drink (we had the strawberry rhubarb margarita - delicious). There were four of us and we split two orders of the dumpling (3 dumplings in each order). I highly recommend the VT sticky chicken and the scallops (had those last time). Can't wait to go back next time I visit Vermont!

Recently reopened breakfast spot in Barton. The VT fav breakfast plate was good and the coffee decent while the French toast could have been softer, richer, and tastier. All in all, a friendly breakfast spot worth visiting if one's in or around Barton.

The servers a bartenders were very friendly and accommodating and made sure the food I ordered was safe for me to eat, due to food allergies. I tried the local hockey mom seltzer which was tasty and not too sweet. For my meal I had the maple cider pork chop which was the perfect portion and delicious. The pork was tender and the glaze was the perfect touch. The home made apple sauce was a nice addition and was so fresh. Finally the garlic green beans were a top choice to round out this dinner. If we have time we will go back because apparently they have the best burger in town and it sells out everyday.

The family was gnashing and tearing at each other from the moment they came through the door and continued when they had to wait 8 minutes for an unreserved table. When the restaurant had the audacity to not have meatballs, the trollish husband went apoplectic on the server who was a lot more measured in her response than I'd of been. They had to call in the owners to calm the small, meatball-less guy down and when he and his cabal were exited the crowd cheered. I finished my mussels which were wonderful.

As you enter the building, the rest rooms are . downstairs to your right. If you stay upstairs and go straight, the bar area will be on your right and the screen porch will be on your left. The bar area is loud and has a number of golfers who have finished their rounds having drinks. The porch area is much quieter and has a nice view of the golf course. It is also screened so you have fresh air. We chose the porch. We were told that the fish in the fish & chips was fresh, so we both ordered it. While we waited, we enjoyed an Edward beer from Hill Farmstead. Our lunch arrived in around 15 minutes and it looked great. The fish was haddock and it was cooked perfectly. The outside was crunchy and the inside was hot and moist. The taste, with the tartar sauce, was excellent as well. We thought the french fries were very good too. The cole slaw, however, was just average. The weather was perfect and the view was beautiful. The service was also very good. That's why this year they get five stars.

Anyways, came back from Jay tonight and needed dinner and even though I stopped at the gas station/mart down the road and grabbed a sandwich I still felt I needed dinner (saving the sandwich for tomorrow.) Popped in and knew this was the right decision. Missed the special menu but the pesto flatbread sounded good. I went with the pot roast dinner which was phenomenal. Fell apart with a fork, vegetables were cooked spot on, and think they were deep fried mashed potatoes? That or panko covered. Ether way they were like cheese balls that were yummy. Service was excellent. The cashier had the best cheerful smile and attitude. She also served and bused the tables so she was always asking everyone one everything was. Place is inviting, I can only imagine what the vibe is in the morning when they serve breakfast. Probably will pop in when I head out of town to fuel up for the ride home. This place is definitely worth the stop not only because of what I wrote but because it's a local business and you should avoid the quick fast meal spots.

Overall, it offered a unique experience, though not without a few drawbacks. To start, the appetizers were fantastic. We shared the beef tartare, mussels, and crab rangoon. The beef tartare stood out for its flavor, though the accompanying baguette was slightly stale. Despite that, the appetizers were the highlight of the meal. For soup, we sampled the French onion, which was met with mixed reviews--decent, but not particularly memorable. The main courses included kangaroo, venison, fish and chips, and duck. While the chef's talent for creating flavorful dishes was evident, all the meats were unfortunately overcooked. This may have been due to the challenge of preparing multiple meals at once, as we were informed that there was only one chef in the kitchen. The restaurant itself boasts a charming and homey ambiance that enhances the dining experience. Service was friendly and accommodating, with no issues on that front. A standout feature of the menu was the inclusion of kangaroo--a rare find, especially in Vermont. While it's worth trying for the novelty, be prepared for its distinctively high iron content, which imparts a metallic flavor that may not appeal to everyone. In conclusion, this restaurant offers a unique and enjoyable experience despite a few missteps. The friendly service and cozy atmosphere make it a worthwhile stop for those visiting the Jay area. Just keep in mind that the kitchen's limitations may impact larger parties or more complex orders. If you're feeling adventurous, give the kangaroo a try--you likely won't find it anywhere else nearby!

We ordered the antelope Swedish balls, French onion soup, and firecracker beef. Most of the food wasn't great - the antelope Swedish meatballs were the best of the 3. The French onion soup had too much thyme and a very watery broth. The firecracker beef was offensive!! It has a warning that it's very spicy (which is true), but it was a really strange dish! I expected an Asian inspired spicy beef dish over rice, but we got a hot sauce drenched rice bowl. Allegedly there was beef in it, but there was really no texture or flavor other than hot sauce! To clarify to the owner comment - we did tell our server we didn't like it, and that it was not due to the spice - it was due to the gross flavor. She simply said "oh I haven't heard that one" and did not offer to take it off the bill or replace it. Now the drinks and desserts were fantastic! We loved our seasonal cocktails, and we ordered two desserts and polished them off. The maple chomeur was drenched in sauce and so good - we actually poured the remaining sauce over our apple warm too! I loved the fresh apples in the tart since there was some texture. Service was also very good from the front desk to our server.

My sister ordered a gin hibiscus drink that was complex in flavor yet still felt light. The space is small but cozy, and the subtle ocean theme is really nice. The service we received was exceptional. The cooks and bartender were very personable and answered our questions thoroughly and with ease. Since it was a slow day, the cook even prepared us an extra little dish (that was delicious by the way). The owner catches a lot of the fish they serve, so it is the freshest you will get in the valley. Their menu changes frequently, so some things you see online may not be available. We ordered several dishes to share: the smashed cucumbers, the tuna tataki, the inari nigiri, and the dry fried shiitake. You can tell the food is good because I forgot to take pictures before we started eating. The cucumbers were very flavorful and had the numbing heat associated with Szechuan cuisine. The tuna tataki had a perfect sear on it. The inari is hard to mess up but was still very good! The highlight dish for me was certainly the dry fried shiitake. It was very flavorful with some heat to it and tasted smoky as it was cooked with bacon. The rice portion was a good size so as not to drown out the mushrooms. We left full and happy. One thing to note- the spicy yellowtail roll is actually spicy, so if you can't handle your spice you should opt for something else. My family has lived in the valley for more than 20 years and my mom says this is the best restaurant in the valley right now. We will certainly be back and will be telling our friends about it.
