Cool dice bar that is less intimidating than other ones. Prices are pretty steep compared to the the other bars around especially for craft beers that come in cans. $12 bucks for a 12oz IPA is expensive. Though the cocktails seem to be better priced as they come in 16oz. Also they are very heavy handed which is good. I got the eggnog that they make every December and it's very strong. A one and done for me. Food here is delicious here as I got the pad thai. Though also pricey. Make sure to bring cash for drinks. They accept card for food though. read more

The Roost is an okay dive bar, but there are so many neat places in the area that I imagine it gets overlooked. We stopped in whilst waiting for Bigfoot Lodge to open. Don't expect froofy specialty cocktails here, but they do have some difficult-to-find canned concoctions available, notably LiveWire. The staff is efficient and friendly. We went in on a friday night and it was completely silent in there so I asked if they could play music and he wanted me to pay for touchtunes. It'sa cash only dive bar and most drinks run you around $18-20 for a cocktail, the beers (all bottled nothing on draft are cheaper but I think most were $9. I mean the drinks were alright but, lets be honest here this ain't a mixology bar its a dive bar with some stiff drinks, but with these prices i'm expecting them to take me out for dinner and a movie. The Roost was a random discovery while out in Atwater Village. Located about two blocks away from Tam O'Shanter, this is where we ended up after dinner. While our stay here was short, it was memorable. Service was OK, but the decor and ambiance was what we all enjoyed the most. This place is cash only (at least when we went), but they do have an ATM. I'd say this bar is definitely worth checking out for at least one round of drinks. read more

A cool little Thai dive bar. Cool ambiance, gets a bit crowded later in the evening during the weekend. They are also known for their chicken wings, and food served was spicy. We had drinks, spicy chicken wings, and the Shrimp p Pad Kee Mao noodles. The beers was fine, we wanted cocktails instead, but was already a little tipsy from the other nearby dive bar. So next time. Lol. The chicken wings was okay, below average in my perspective because I've tasted muuuuch better elsewhere. Yes, the Korean style! Our drunken noodles, the Pad Kee Mao was legit. It was probably the most spicy I've ever had. OMG, I should have told the waitress to hold off on the peppers. Or maybe just order the Pad See Ew next time. It was so spicy that we barely touched it. Anyhow, next time I would only come for the drinks. The bar is very divey, but had lots of energy. The weird part of our experience was the waitress was asking us to pay right away when she brought the food. I wonder if people eat and leave without paying?! But we thought it was very rude. Just updating to say with things opening back up, the Roost is still the go-to spot! We came at 6:30pm on a Saturday and it was busy, but not totally packed. We easily found seating. One tip: the Thai food isn't always served continuously. When we arrived, the bartender working said that food starts around 7:30pm. At 7:30, Tsai came to our table and took our order and of course it was delicious. Tsai is amazing and takes great care of everyone to create a stellar divey environment for her customers. Not sure if food always starts this late or if you can be served at lunch time too, but just be sure to ask! Parking in rear is a great perk too. read more

I like this little quaint bar. It is so convenient and down the street from where I grew up. The owner is always very welcoming and always greets you with a smile. It has a jukebox and they also serve food. We went here on a Sunday which was a slow Sunday night but that's ok. I recently tried their fried rice which is pretty good and tasty. Next time I will try their Pad Thai. The downside though. I don't recall this place being pricey. I believe their prices have gone up since the last time we were here. Other than that, nice ambiance, good vibes, great customer service, tasty food, and strong drinks. Tips: Bring cash for drinks at the bar only. But if you forget, they do have an ATM machine inside. Bummer this place used to be cool. But it seems to have gotten more expensive than most bars on the block. The $10 high life and Jim Beam shot comes out with a $1 stubby bottle of High Life that usually comes free on the side of a Bloody Mary.... This place used to be an awesome cheap local dive. It still feels and looks like a dive (though it was completely redone years ago from its old school beautiful decor to be very basic), but they charge more than almost places in the area that aren't cocktail bars. Other drinks seem fairly average-ish, all cheap beers for about $5-7. The place is CASH ONLY FYI. If you want to walk a couple blocks down, you can get a full size beer and a shot from any of the 4 immediate bars for the same price as the Roost's stubby. read more
