Chris was very attentive to our needs and explained everything in detail. The entire experience was impressive.

    Carlton Mathews Roofing & Siding

On Monday, October 16th Carlton Matthews Roofing and Siding arrived at my residence to strip and…read moreinstall a new roof, including the replacement of damaged plywood and a skylight. During the install, workers had removed the skylight and not covered the void, then proceeded to lunch. While they were on lunch, it rained. This caused water damage in my office, including electronics. During the course of the roof strip, all four sides of my residence looked like a war zone. Following the alleged "completion" of my new roof around 6 PM on Monday, October 16th, I located sixteen (16) roofing nails on my lawn. I have a disabled Saint Bernard (three working legs), so stepping on a nail would be horrible. After notififying Carlton Matthews about the lack of detail and clean up, two workers were sent to "roll" the lawn with a magnet the next day. I'm still picking up nails and roofing debris to this date. During this return trip on Tuesday, October 17th I asked the representatives where the open bundles of shingles were taken, as I viewed them placing shingles in their trailer on Monday. I was hoping to use them on the roof of my shed in the backyard. I have still not heard back on where my purchased shingles were taken, however they were not returned. On Tuesday, October 24th, the first precipitation to fall since the installation of the new purchased roof took place. Unfortunately, I was welcomed to my kitchen with a river of water flowing through my ceiling. I worked to mitigate the problem as best I could with buckets, towels, and a plastic tarp on the roof. Carlton Matthews was contacted early morning Tuesday, October 24th, but I did not hear back until I tracked someone down nearing 8PM. Although I was not home to witness the alleged "fix" to the roof on Wednesday, October 25th, I was notified it had been completed and we'd have to wait until it rained to determine if it worked. Monday, October 30th was the next rain event in Onondaga County. Once again, I was met with a leaking roof/ceiling at 4AM on the 30th. Carlton Matthews was notified on Monday, October 30th, no response. On Tuesday, October 31st, Five (5) attempts to contact Carlton Matthews yielded negative results. No one answers the phone and it goes directly to voicemail. The voicemail box is full and paying customers are unable to reach the company or seek resolve. Onondaga County is projected to see precipitation on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday (11/01, 11/02, and 11/03). I would prefer to not sustain more damage to the roof, ceiling, and all parts in between following a poor quality installation.

They repaired it by putting some black material in the top cap. Now that material is creating or stain on our light gray roof, they came back and told us it was dust. We registered multiple request to the staff Kim White to have the owner Mike Majeski please come and meet with us or at least call. We never got the dignity of our response This year we are damaged due to ice buildup. It took them all summer to get the part and when it came, it was the wrong part meanwhile they had our deposit over $1000 no apology when they didn't come to install it we were not told they were coming. They just appeared. Our problem is that we are into this company for thousands of dollars for a roof and here we are still paying for our new roof.

They are all about a fast buck and they lie like hell. Over the Top was recommended by my insurance…read morecompany. Their estimator looked the job over made some suggestions, and said I would be the first or second job that season and they would start in April weather permitting. I signed a contract and sent a check for half the agreed amount. Around the 20th of June I got one days notice that they would be at my house to do the job. About 7:00 AM the next day the same estimator showed up with a crew of about 10 Hispanic people only one of which spoke a little bit of English. About 1:00 PM the Estimator/foreman took off to visit family out of state leaving the crew to finish the job. Around 5:00 PM they started putting all their equipment away and I asked about the roof on the bay windows and the soffit repair that was part of the contract. Now no one understands English. I contacted the foreman and eventually was told another crew would come and finish. That crew came probably three times each time telling everything was done but it was not. Not only didn't they do the work they said they did but they slopped gutter coating all over the new roof shingles. This dragged out until December when Over the Top wanted to bill me for the roofing only and let the other work go. I told them no way. We have a contract and I want the work done as per the contract. Then I was told they would not be coming back any more. I had to find another contractor who came the following spring to fix the poor work that was done and finish the job. That cost me an amount equal to the second half of the original contract plus another $1,000. In the meantime there were three different leaks which I, a disabled veteran in my seventies, had to fix myself in the middle of December. Then repaint three different interior walls. I am also a retired contractor and believe me these are the last people you want working on your home.
