Highly recommend all the things we ordered, which were: French Toast, yogurt and granola, spinach feta, ham and cheese croissant, chocolate croissant, lemon lavender scone, kouign amann, lavender honey latte (which was a seasonal item) and drip coffee! I would have taken pics but ugh we couldn't wait. That's how good they were! How this bakery got 2nd place for the James Beard award but we thought they deserved FIRST!

We were very surprised to find the line already went out the door! The line moved fast and boy you better be ready to order when you step up, because it is a fast moving, no messing around system. In addition there were at least three employees taking orders at the counter so the pastry case is extremely crowded and it's difficult to view what the options are. The employees weren't un-kind, but they there were no niceties like "good morning". They wanted to move you through the line quickly, so we didn't feel we could really peruse the pastries and so we skipped it and we just ordered a hot coffee and a large hot almond milk latte. People were already more than crowded inside waiting for their items so we stepped onto the patio. It was a chilly morning so the small fire pit was welcomed. For the giant crowd waiting we received our drinks within a reasonable time frame. They call names from inside behind the counter, so if you are not within 4 feet of the counter you will not hear them. We sat on the patio near the garden and the view was beautiful. My "large" latte was the same small size of my husband's drip coffee and both appeared to be around 12-14oz. Disappointing. The drip coffee was okay, but not worth returning for and my almond milk latte was also just okay. We maybe would have given Persephone another try, but in the end we chose to try the many other coffee/bakery shops in downtown. I'm not saying 'stay away', I'm just saying it's not as amazing as the hype. Other tips -look at the menu BEFORE you get in line, especially if it is buys -if you happen to snag an indoor seat realize there will be little to no privacy as the line will form right next to your table. -the birds outside are cute, friendly and will absolutely eat your food if you leave it unattended for even a moment - we saw a pack of small birds try to fly off with an entire egg croissant sandwich in the 1min the owner stepped inside for napkins. *don't worry, we stopped them

I have been past this establishment many times have never been until today. When I walked in the store was clean and bright but nobody greeted me. There were prices for such items as coffees and sandwiches but I did not see any prices for pastries and the labels detailing what the pastries are were faded and illegible. I was extremely surprised that a single bread roll costs $4 like I understand this is Jackson but that is just robbery. My pastry was also dry and there was nothing special about it. Even at the cash register nobody asked me how my day was going they just said "is that it? We were in Jackson for 4 days and we found ourselves in The Bread Basket 3 times. It's a Mexican bakery and we tried just about everything in the cases. We bought a bunch to take home with us and share too. Everything was so delicious. My favorite was the flakey pastry with spiced apple filling. They don't skimp on the filling! It was perfect. We also brought home a bunch of tamales, oh my gosh, they are sooo good try the Salsa Verde con Pollo. Spicy deliciousness. Because everything in the national parks were closed, if you're going to be in the park all day you must bring your own food. We ordered their sandwiches for one of our Yellowstone trips. (BTW Yellowstone was virtually empty of people, see my review for Yellowstone for more info). The sandwiches were gourmet wonderful. I ordered the turkey with pesto, brie and dried cranberries on a fresh ciabatta type bread. Perfect. The staff is friendly, the shop is clean.

First of all we were greeted by a friendly young saleslady, who was very patient with us while we discussed our options and tasted ice cream samples. We decided there were too many delicious choices to just get one dessert a piece. We picked out six cupcakes. Two S'mores, Salted Caramel, Red Velvet, chocolate raspberry cheesecake, and a brownie cupcake. We also got some German chocolate ice cream, and a sugar cookie with toffee bits on top. We haven't eaten everything yet.... but let me tell you what we did have was amazing!!! Ice cream was creamy, strong chocolate flavor, with pieces of coconut and cake pieces. Yum! Sugar cookie had a buttery flavor, crisp on the edges, but soft and chewy in the middle. Frosting was a vanilla buttercream that wasn't cloyingly sweet, something some places fail at. The chocolate raspberry cheesecake cupcake was pure bliss. A fantastic soft texture, not at all like a muffin in density, but it didn't totally fall apart either. The chocolate was a nice milk chocolate and then it hits you with the raspberry filling, just right. The cream cheese frosting on top put it over the edge. Delicious!!! Every bite was on point. The second cupcake we tried was the brownie one. That one was very sweet, I would even say a little too sweet with the frosting. It was much more dense, probably because it was part brownie. It was not our favorite of the two cupcakes we tried, however our daughter thought it was above and beyond the best cupcake she tried. So maybe if you're really into sweet that's the cupcake for you. The other three cupcakes we have yet to enjoy, but based on everything else we tasted I have a feeling they are going to taste phenomenal. If you're in Idaho Falls looking to get your sugar fix, go here. It's worth every calorie.

What I got was a snickerdoodle and a macaroon. Now, I've had snickerdoodles, and they have had a menagerie of flavors all blended into one. This snickerdoodle tasted like a brown sugar cookie. It just was not a snickerdoodle. That being said, it was a good sugar cookie lol. I didn't know what to expect with the macaroon. I am used to chewy, gooey coconut macaroons, but these look nothing like that. I knew I wasn't getting what I would expect, but they were strange; they broke in my mouth like a piece of plastic with a slight bit of flavor--I didn't like them. I tried a bite of the cupcake from the person who was with me. It was actually pretty good, but I'm not a big icing person, and the icing was the epitome of what I don't like--too sugary sweet. All this being said, I would take someone back for a cupcake just as an inexpensive treat, but I would have to go elsewhere for my coffee. After telling me she uses four shots in a drink and that she liked her coffee strong, I went with that advice. The coffee/espresso red eye I ended up with was weak. Well, I guess my strong is much stronger than hers. The other person I was with didn't enjoy the coffee experience either. So if we were to go back, we would definitely go to a different place to get coffee. Geez, I don't know, I didn't set out to say such things about this place, but... it's not easy being a small business owner. I know that, but honesty needs to prevail. The service was not bad; she's an owner-operator, and she tried to be very engaging. To me, she seemed a little phoney, or forced. Pleasant enough for sure, but she did seem to me a little pushy. She asked for feedback, wondering how we enjoyed our food. When I told her I didn't like the macaroons and that they just weren't what I was used to, I could tell she didn't receive it well. The whole time eating this strange-to-me food and not enjoying my coffee, the surroundings were just very void of comfort. It's not a relaxing, comfortable atmosphere. It is to sit there under bright lights, with bright attitude and high energy, to eat your treats and be on your way.

The staff at the front was friendly and helpful and my food was immediately ready, which seemed magical. I got two breakfast bagels, which were delicious. My companion also thought so. Both were premade, but were soo good. We got the everything bagels with meat and egg. I thought about these sandwiches for days after. The bagel was a good size, flavorful, and soft. I also ordered a sweet bagel with mountain berry cream cheese. I was excited to try something sweet, but was immediately let down. The bagel even looked different. It was small, kinda burnt, and seemed to not be baked well. The cream cheese also had no flavor. We both tried bites of it, but felt it was bad enough to throw away. What a let down. The breakfast bagels were so good, we'd come back, even with the bad sweet bagel. Maybe it was a fluke or bad morning?

The inside is not too big but enough spots for a group to sit if you get 2 tables, just keep a look out people come in and out pretty quickly. They were out of their Lox Bagel with actual salmon and we accidentally ordered the bagel with salmon but just in the cream cheese. Make sure to clarify when ordering this as we were confused and never heard of it before. The salmon cream didn't have a strong flavor, maybe the cream cheese was pretty overpowering. I did prefer the sandwiches over the cream cheese bagels. There is a thick layer of meat but not much sauce on either sandwich so I would recommend asking for either extra or on the side. The bagels itself were a little on the thicker side, they were toasted but not much as seen from the pictures. They were pretty doughy, not a personal favorite. The workers were nice and gave recommendations for favorites. They also were pretty fast so it didn't take long to go in and out.
