After combing various cookie blogs for…read moretips and tricks, most of them suggested getting supplies from Karen's Cookies so off I went (via the web). They have everything you could ever want to make & decorate cookies (and other baked goods). Karen and Mike are VERY nice people and oh so helpful. Yesterday when I tried to pay for an order via PayPal, I couldn't continue. I emailed Mike and he set up a payment request through PayPal and I was able to complete my payment. Then less than an hour later, I got an email that my order shipped! You might find (ahem) other companies who have cheaper cookie cutters (you know who you are) but they get you back with the shipping. Here are some helpful tips in case you are about to start cookie-ing... * Use CK brand meringue powder, the Wilton brand has a yucky taste. * Americolor brand gel pastes make more vibrant colors so go with that brand. * To dry your cookie cutters, put them back on a clean baking sheet after washing them and let the cooled-off oven dry them for you. No spots and no rust! * Besides the awesome information on Karen's site, Google these cookie blogs for some inspiration and ideas... sweetsugarbelle, sweetopia, lilaloa and thebearfootbaker. I'm pleased to say that the products looked and tasted like they were whipped up in a local kitchen earlier that morning. And this was a shipment from Idaho to Georgia!!! I would also like to say the apples held up insanely well. Because I didn't understand the ordering process / ship date, our apples didn't arrive in time for our Easter Baskets. (There was also an issue caused by all the drama happening at the USPS Palmetto GA mail distribution center.) We ate one apple right away and wound up putting one apple in the fridge before we went to south Ga for a repair project. Roughly four weeks later, I was cleaning out the fridge and, sadly, I was going to toss it because I figured it would have gone mushy. My sweetie told me not to throw it away - said to give it to him so he could eat the toppings. I rolled my eyes and told him ok, but to let me break the toppings off so that he didn't make it mess. I won't bore you with the details of the ensuing conversation where he accused me of treating him like a child. Lol. Imagine my surprise when I unwrapped the apple and started cutting into it only to discover that the doggone apple was still perfectly fine. I cut it into wedges and we scarfed it down. It was SOOOO good. I Googled it and apparently it's a thing. Caramel apples will routinely hold up for 2 - 3 weeks. Overall Overall, I think the company is great. Amazing customer service coupled with an amazing product. Highly recommend.
