This is a really cute novelty gift shop. It also sells candy from my childhood that I had to buy! If your looking for something cute for yourself or a unique gift, this is the place!

Even though I am quite jaded about romance and the whole lovey dovey crapola, I have decided to take the plunge this year and invite my inner cupid to visit my freaky cohort. So on my search for extremely cheap and creative ways to celebrate this lover's holiday I first went on a field trip to Ypsilanti's "The Rocket". The shop is located right in the heart of downtown Ypsilanti on Michigan Ave. The front window this month is decked out in shiny red hues and filled with alternative budget conscious novelties geared to Valentine's Day. Ya... this is so my kind of local independent shop. Any place that can sport sculls and cross bones and love and romance in one delicious window display has my attention! As soon as my baby girl and I walked in to The Rocket it felt like we just won the golden ticket into Willy Wonkas factory. We were welcomed by an assortment of wrapped and unwrapped bulk candy that covered the entire wall on the right. My baby was in heaven as she inspected all the bins... every kind of gummy bear's imaginable, chocolates, jaw breakers, all sorts of pez dispensers, wax candy soda pops, and to top it off, a beautiful rainbow of every variety of jelly bellies's blanketed the wall. I was hypnotized by all the cool religious, tinker bell, zombie and pirate action figures, and especially the Betty Boop, Marylin Monro, and Elvis Novelties. The retro kitchen and bathroom accessories totally made me envious of anyone who happens to have a place of their own to decorate! In addition to candy, I found some seriously great novelties under $5.00 for my love. Such as: Adorable rubber heart love rats- And for the serious breakfast in bed surprise you can create some love eggs with a super cheap heart egg shaper and Stamp some lovin on toast with the "I Love You Toast Stamper"- Prepare yourself to spend a half hour or so investigating the four rooms filled with retro, vintage, hard to find, unique Ypsi attire, toys, games, bar and tiki paraphernalia, cool ass jewelry, bags, purses- all that scream Rebel- Cool ass chick- Character- and style for the chickie who likes to stand out period! Also... they have online promo coupons you can print and redeem this month to further support your budget and love big time! You can take advantage of 20% off any one purchase- 10% off your entire purchase- 30% off your entire bulk candy purchase. If you don't live near Ypsilanti, that is ok too... they have an online ordering section over at their site: http://www.therocketypsi.com They are located at: 103 W. Michigan Ave at the corner of Michigan Ave and Huron Street.

Came here 6/10/21 12:30pm and was so happy that the worker there was incredibly friendly and attentive she even found us in the store and brought over another basket because we had so much stuff. She had an arm in a cast rendering it useless but still managed to check out all of our stuff with care and with a smiling face, something we really appreciate. We have been taking our daughter there for 5 years now and she still loves the rocket store so much, we are grateful for the friendly environment and amazing unique gifts. THANK YOU ROCKET STORE! Forever customers :) (love your pusheen)

Lots of fun stuff! I discovered chocolate covered Swedish fish, and they are oddly delicious. So many cool things to find.

Bon Bon Bon - POt O' Gold in shops this Friday!

Insanely cute chocolate shop down in Nickels Arcade [which is a tiny alley with an assortment of…read moreshops like a vintage store and clothing store]. They have an array of flavors of bon bons (chocolates with a filling inside) lined up behind the glass case including fudge brownie, peanut butter and jam, and much more unique combinations that I paid no attention to because i was enamored with the rest of the shop. They had all sorts of knick knacks, stickers (some were for free!), mini greeting cards, shirts, tote bags, cool shaped chocolates on the shelves. Each bon bon is $3.50 and it gets individually packaged in a tiny box. If you're feeling extra, you can buy a cute cardboard carrier case for your chocolate treasures ($2). Otherwise you can still get it packaged in a cute box for free (pictured). As for the actual bon bons: - The fudge brownie one had a deep chocolate flavor with only about 35% sweetness which was quite dismaying. - The PB&J one was sweeter which I liked and the jam added a bit of tartness. Comparatively, this bon bon had more complexity than the dark bitterness of the fudge brownie.

The owner of Bobalee reached out to me after my previous review and told me that the shop actually…read morebrews their Thai Tea from scratch instead of making it from powder. That intrigued me enough to revisit and try the drink out this past week. Thai Milk Tea, Small w/ Boba ($6.40) - As I was ordering, I was told that the sweetness couldn't be adjusted since the the tea was premade and mixed with sweetener. It's a little unfortunate, but it is what it is. On the first sip, the tea first starts with a somewhat dairy forward flavor, but immediately follows that up with an extremely roasted, smoky and somewhat astringent flavor of a very strongly brewed tea. About half a second later, an extreme sweetness floods the mouth but helps to balance out some of the smoky astringency. I'm not sure how they get it to be so smoky - I regularly brew Thai tea in an espresso machine and I've never gotten it to be so strong before. It's also much smokier than any Thai tea I've had in restaurants. The sweetness is a bit too much for me. After sipping a bit, I decided to save the rest for later and add some fresh brewed Thai tea to temper the sweetness down a bit. The boba this visit is a big improvement over my previous visit. This time, it's not rock hard; instead, the boba has a decent chew on the exterior while retaining quite a bit more firmness in the center. I found the boba to be a bit on the lumpier side and a little inconsistent in shape but it's not bad. Drink Rating: 3/5 Boba Rating: 3/5 I also asked for a small sample of the black tea. This is also pre-sweetened, probably on the order of 25% or 50% vs. a fully sweetened drink as compared to other boba shops. For my tastes, it actually right on the dot: not too sweet, which allows some of the natural tea fragrance to really be at the forefront of the drink without being drowned out. I honestly would get this tea as a milk tea without any additional sweetener added. Bobalee is a first mover into Ypsilanti. It's a very well run business, with friendly staff and great ambiance. As I mentioned in my previous review, this is a business that's worth supporting. Bathrooms - Single unisex room in the back.
