I am reserving my fifth star for a visit this spring/summer when the weather is conducive to use of the backyard. I really, REALLY like this place. I was brought here a few months ago by a longtime patron who hooked me with: "$1 PBRs and $1 tacos." Dude ... you had me at the $1 PBRs But the Tacos ... wow. Come in with low expectations (e.g. Jack in the Box) and be prepared to scatter them to the winds as THESE $1 tacos are delicious, AMERICAN-Style tacos. Crispy corn shell ... spicy beef, salsa, cheddar cheese, and lettuce. And a few round tortilla chips thrown in for cleaning up the droppings. Perfect! Now, these beauties are only offered on Wednesday nights and they sometimes run out. I HAVE had, as a consolation course, a very fine hot dog as well. But seriously. Come on a Wednesday. Buy three tacos and a couple of beers, and tip the gentleman at the bar $5 for being such a friendly guy. read more

Great selection of local beers (plus Strongbow on tap!) along with Guiness and other good beers. A little divey, but a diverse crew there-some sports teams, some young twenty-somethings, part old timers, part drunkies, part serious sports fans. Food is dec. Not the best sandwich I've ever had (or the selection is a bit random of food. Burger, French Dip, Roast beef), and I do wish that they had different sides besides just Tim's chips and chips/salsa (though, let's face it, it's probably best that I didn't have the option of fries). Nachos were copious and definitely tasty. Service for food was a bit slow (it was a busy night for a Mariner's game and NBA finals, and one guy was in the small kitchen). My friend was quite pleased with their veggie burger. I was intrigued by the fact that they had mac n' cheese, but it was pricey. Great place to watch a game or sit in the back and have drinks with friends. Might not be my first choice for a dive bar because the food is lacking a bit compared to the Fremont Dock or Pacific Inn, but still a good time. read more

There is one female employee here who will remain nameless (because I don't know her name) who is just phenomenally unfriendly, especially on Husky game nights, but the Roanoke doesn't = that lady, so I'll lay off. Pinball. Fun artwork. Ample seating. These are just some of the things that are happening at the Roanoke. Sometimes there is a bouncer outside and sometimes there isn't. Do you want a PBR? I got myself lost going to this place. The worst part is I already knew where it was but went with MapQuest to make sure I got there. Damn me for going against my instincts. Once I was able to make my own way to Roanoke and meet up with a friend I was pleasantly surprised by this little neighborhood bar. Its not a big bar but that's where most of its charm comes from. You have about three tvs, a good beer selection, and food. We had already eaten so didn't get any grub but I was eyeballing the food being served to the couple next to us. Looked tasty! There is a little stage and a couple of guys were setting up their instruments. Please note that I'm not sure live music is a regular fixture there. My friend and I were there for a fundraiser. Roanoke Tavern is certainly the place to relax with a nice cold one. It seemed a great place for solo folks as well. read more

One of the chillest bars that I have been to in Seattle thus far. It has a nice, quaint, neighborhood-bar vibe to it and it's the perfect place to enjoy a nice evening off from school or work. If I had to classify it, I'd say that it is a sports bar with just the right amount of televisions -- enough so that everyone can see from every angle but not so much that you feel like the color is constantly changing whenever you blink. In terms of food and drinks, I had a great 7 Seas amber ale (Gig Harbor) that was just put on tap today. My friend recommended it and it was delicious. To top it off, the bartender forgot to ring me up for it and actually said it was on the house when I inquired about paying for it. I gave her a $3 tip for the drink for being so awesome. The nachos were just so-so in my opinion, but the burger with bleu cheese was good. Strangely enough, the taste of the patty reminded me a lot of In-N-Out...lol...only bigger. The bleu cheese really brought together the ensemble of meat, lettuce, tomatoes, and bread, and I was satisfied with my meal. The only thing I wish they offered was french fries on the side instead of Tim's chips, tortilla chips, or salad. I love all the sides that were offered individually, but when it comes to eating a burger I always prefer to have "fries with that." Chill, Seattle neighborhood bar. Nice amount of TVs for the space, and really not a bad seat in the house for catching a game. I've been on all nights of the week and if you want a cold beer, some tasty nachos or quesadilla this is a solid choice. It's located right off I-5 and 520 so it tends to be a neutral spot for folks coming from around and out of Seattle. Plus lots of street parking (park on the overpass, when allowed). I've been here with small groups 2-3 people, and larger groups 10-20. Maybe the people that had bad experiences were being douchey? Jk lol. I don't know you, so I won't judge, but I've always had a good experience. read more

Real swell! Ok, sometimes they have some absurd deal like $1 Highlifes! I think that is on Tuesday along with taco Tuesday that features something like $1 tacos. It is not my favorite taco Tuesday in town but it is pretty good. They also have other cheap drink specials depending on the night. Every time I come here I am refreshed by the pricing. Every Wednesday, a bunch of my friends go to the Roanoke and drink dollar beers, and eat tacos. Generally, I stay home and read comic books. About once every couple of months, my friends convince me to put the comic books down and come drink beers with them at the Roanoke. Generally, after about two beers, I sort of wish I was at home reading comic books. That said, its not a bad bar. It's got cheap beer, Golden Tee and a neat ivy covered front. I've been going by this place for years and I've always been intrigued by the sign board. I finally dropped by last night (Friday) expecting some low key neighborhood pub. To put it simply, this place is awesome and defies classification. It's low key and lively at the same time. There's tons of seating, but most people were standing. You can have it either way. Regarding beer - their selection spans the typical PNW beers (Manny's Mac and Jack's, Hales, + tons of rotating taps), budget beers (Bud Light, Rainier, PBR, Kokanee), and Irish/European (Bitburger, Harp, Guiness). The clientele was diverse too. All ages and good mix of genders. And did I mention they have TVs? It's a rarity in Seattle, but they have them. Three TVs tuned to different channels. I don't think anyone was watching them Fri night, but I'll probably drop by to check out some sports in the future. read more

This place smells, it's loud and people were not that friendly. The bartender was awesome! Came here by accident and it turned out to be fun. Yes it stinks inside and the carpet has never been cleaned but the atmosphere was fun! Bartemder was making great drinks and after a while we couldn't even notice the smell. My friend got into a "discussion" with a "regular" because we appeared to be from out of town. The bartender quickly stepped in and things went back to "normal". We live next door, and just yesterday realized we don't get down there enough. I'm not a beer drinker, but do enjoy the fact that they have cider on tap for $3.50. My husband, a beer lover extraordinaire appreciates the fact they have a good beer selection and soccer on TV. The food is decent, nothing to write home about. The owner of this place can't except feedback. She has a very rude male bartender that needs coaching. Her response to me was full of inaccuracies that I am sure her employee fed her. Too bad. I was a patron and even have photos of friends on the wall. No more Roanoke for me and I will let all my neighbors know how my out of town guest were treated. Most business owners encourage feedback. I guess that is not the case for the Roanoke. I will spend future time at the Canterbury. They know how to treat customers. read more

Roanokes was one of my first bars in Seattle and one that I go to on a weekly basis. I'll keep the 5 star simple.... great beer selection, good atmosphere (it can get really loud in there at times), good location, and most importantly good bartenders. You have to classify this as a dive bar, but as a dive bar it stands out by having an unusually upright clientele. The beer selection ranges from the typical "domestic" beers (that I as a beer snob consider undrinkable) all the way to interesting local craft beers. The wine options are limited but okay. We have not yet tried the food. This is not a complicated place and not an upscale place, but it is friendly and a great local option. We have already been back once, and I expect to find myself there soon again. read more

The upside to having my birthday party thrown out of my own house by an awful neighbor is that it finally got me into the Roanoke! I've been living two blocks away from the place for at least 6 months now, and it looks like I've been missing out on a great neighborhood chill spot! I was pretty...let's say, "hammered" by the time I got there, but I'm pretty sure there was a pretty good tap list, a full bar, and plenty of places to sit with a large group. Service was fast, and while I'm not planning to make friends with a bartender here, it was friendly enough. The 'Noke looks kind of shady from the outside, but it's nice and cozy inside, so I can definitely see myself stopping by whenever I don't feel like straying too far from home. read more

My friend and I just moved to the neighborhood and was really hoping this bar would be aweome, considering it the only one close to our apartment; but we were sadly let dwon. The whole place smelt like after shave and was dark and dingy; the only real hope for it being remotely entertaining was the ping pong tables, but that was the most disappointing part. We got there at 8 pm on Saturday night and it was pitch black outside (where the tables are) I asked if we could have paddles and some lights but they declined us because of the neighbors. They know they live right next to a bar! A bar they probably never go to! They don't even let people outside after 10...what. I understand this isn't the bar tenders fault (who was the only one there) but this place seriously needs an upgrade. read more

Typically, this has been a great place to start or end my night. The bartenders have been polite and awesome. They don't skimp on a drink, and are very welcoming. I brought a friend tonight, who had a couple beers, while I had a couple drinks. The tenders switched shifts midway before we left. My friend had one more beer before we left. As he closed his tab, the bartender asked me if I had a good time. I responded, "Yes." She returned with, "Oh, cause you didn't tip me." This bartender did not serve me a drink on this night. This place was cool. I didn't think it was 2 miles away (walking) but it appears that it was. Tired and ready for the game, my friend and I dropped by and watched the Seahawks lose to the 49'ers amidst free peanuts, good beer, and some tasty food. It was pretty quiet (but still busy enough) and cozy, and the staff was very friendly and nice. There was a nice range of different types of people (from your crazy neighborhood drunks to your just-turned-21 hipsters). I'd go here again, but this time I'd drive, as the walk was a slight bit more than expected. But of course that has nothing to do with the place itself, so I give it 5 stars, because I could find nothing wrong with this place. I'll have to go there again soon, and see if my opinion has changed, but otherwise, yay for the "Noke". read more

My favorite local bar, hands down (esp. after the smoking ban went into effect!). Simply just a great place to grab a pint and catch up with friends. Can't beat the ping pong tables out back in the summer or a little friendly golden tee when the weather gets chilly and keeps you inside. Dennis is one of the best bartenders around, always has a smile on his face and stories to tell! They usually have nightly specials, can't beat Wednesday with $1.00 Lucky Lagers and $1.00 tacos! The food is decent for a dive bar (try the turkey mambo). It's an okay place to catch a game on TV as well. read more

I've been there on Wednesdays for two weeks in a row now for dollar tacos, which are delicious and bar-food-tastic. On Wednesdays you can also get "dollar beer" except the dollar beer is a cold can of Lucky, and I sort of decided when I turned 23 and a half that I wasn't going to drink crappy beer anymore, especially not when I can get a tasty Mac and Jack on tap. Lots of tvs, lots of sports, and since I usually go with my boyfriend and his friends who get mesmerized by that basketball game that I couldn't care less about (don't you just feel like the NBA is so irrelevant anymore?), I really appreciate that there's usually a newspaper lying around that I can grab and do the crossword. There you have it, nice beer, a couple dollar tacos, and an unfinished crossword puzzle on a Wednesday night are the keys to unlocking my mean, bitter heart. read more

I've been going to the Noke for 20 years and there's no reason to stop now. A perfect rendezvous spot for a pack of old friends. Lots of street parking, a chill vibe, and sports always on. The staff is chill and beer pong tables newly painted. I only wish they had outside lighting for night pong, but alas, it's a neighborhood bar and folks need to sleep. This is a serious neighborhood bar. No, seriously. A 'game on the TV, Rainier on tap (at least last time I was in there), couple of old guys nursing their drinks' kind of neighborhood bar. Not nearly as upscale as the neighborhood it's actually in, ironically enough, and I've been told that local denizens have tried to push it out because they felt it was too trashy, which is just goofy because it's not trashy at all. It's actually comfortable and well-appointed, and would fit my ideal for a place to be a regular except for one thing: they don't have a fryer, which means no fries and no wings. And frankly, when I'm having a beer, only being able to order a burger with chips is simply unforgivable. read more
