I've been seeing Carol for 10 months now. I decided to seek counseling because my sister noticed…read morehow depleted my "light" was when she looked in my eyes. I was losing myself and my way, just barely able to try and meet everyone else's needs, completely unaware of my own. I didn't want to fade away, but I knew for my heart and mind to engage I would need a good therapist. I read Carol's profile, and immediately knew she was the one. Her approach took into consideration sensitive people. In life I have been misunderstood by many. I was so often referred to as "sensitive". I tried to push this aspect of my personality, the deep feeling and thinking, down until I could just communicate on the surface. Looking back over the last 10 months I realize that Carol has respectfully guided me to a place where I can honor who I am and find a way to live in harmony with others in my life. It's a tricky balance, and I'm still working on it, but I have made progress. She has managed to provide insights that I had not seen on my own, because she listens and I believe truly cares about those she sees. I will forever be grateful for Carol, as she had had a profoundly positive effect on my life.

I've only been working with Samuel for a couple months, but I feel like he's already helped me see…read moresome new concepts that I haven't been able to grasped throughout the past 17+ years I've been in therapy. I've seen several different counselors over the years and none of them have been able to help me have as many pivotal breakthroughs! I feel like Samuel genuinely cares, he takes notes, he also encourages ME TO TAKE NOTES, and he is able to reference stories I've mentioned to him in prior sessions accurately (this is huge). A couple of things that he's pointed out to me have really resonated and helped me with my anxiety recently: 1. "Dwelling on the 'don't knows' triggers anxiety" -what the heck does that mean? The "don't knows" are thoughts that pop into my head like what is next week going to look like, what does xyz think of me, or why doesn't my dog listen to me, etc. All the things I can't possibly know cuz I'm not a fortune-teller, someone else, or my dog! (I hope you get the point) I can ask xyz and/or I can take action to get help with my dog, but dwelling on the "don't knows" right now or during the weekend are only going to trigger anxiety. And once my anxiety starts spinning, then depression will be coming along soon too to join the party, if I don't get a hold of my thoughts. So remembering this little mantra has helped tremendously lately and I'm staying more calm. 2. Our imagination makes up terrible outcomes and stories all the time (due to different reasons and may vary from person to person), but why not try to use our imagination to make up good things instead. I mean either way we're just making it up in our head anyways, why not err on the positive side of things instead of always on the negative, doom-gloom side? I could go on and on, just ask Samuel, I never seem to run out of things to talk about lol. But I don't want to give away all my enlightenments in just one review. I am grateful for my new counselor and love recommending his services to other people looking to put in "the work". Good luck!

After being sent a cease-and-desist letter by an attorney, I've chosen to modify my review, but…read morestill, under any circumstances, I would not return or advise anyone to partake in services provided by Family Strategies. I attended the SABR program beginning in December 2022. The group was really great when run by Debbie McRae until May 2023. After that, I felt a very weird and uncomfortable shift, and the therapist that led the program left seemingly out of nowhere. In March 2023, Floyd Godfrey, the owner and executive director of Family Strategies was accused of sexual harassment by employees, and his license was voluntarily revoked as you can read for yourself here: azbbhe.us/node/1003. I encourage potential patients to do their own research into Floyd Godfrey and come to their own conclusions. Family Strategies has not provided honesty and transparency to clients to allow them to make the best and right decision for their care with all of the facts provided to them. It could have been handled so much better and the practice could have built trust with clients by being honest and transparent. Unfortunately, that's not what happened. The truth always comes out, and unfortunately, there's often more to a story so more may come to light in time. Even though Floyd Godfrey is no longer allowed to see patients, as the owner, he's still profiting off of clients so there's absolutely no way that I feel safe continuing services at this practice.  I will tell everyone I know to stay away from Family Strategies.
