It's disappointing to write this review because Dr. Clark was kind and easy to talk to, but I would caution others not to make the same mistake I did. Between the initial office visit and one set of labs, I've already spent over $1,000. I was told the labs would "usually come back fairly reasonable" through insurance, but $725 is far from reasonable. I was also told there was a cash-pay option of $900, which is equally concerning. I'm not sure what standard of "reasonable" this clinic is using, because these costs feel excessive and out of reach for many people. It gave me the impression that this practice may only be accessible to those for whom cost isn't a concern. Additionally, my experience during the in-office lab draw was concerning. The staff member who attempted it seemed very inexperienced, she removed the tourniquet before even attempting to insert the needle and then tried to reposition the needle after insertion. Another staff member had to step in and was able to draw the labs immediately without any issues, which was frustrating given that I've been told I have easy veins. On top of that, I would have had to pay another $219 out of pocket for a follow-up lab review that was supposed to happen within 7-10 days, but the earliest available appointment was a month out. At that point, I decided to cancel and take it as a sign. I would not return and cannot recommend this clinic. I would hate for someone else to end up in the same position, especially when you're already not feeling well and just trying to find answers, only to be left with an unexpected financial burden on top of it. read more

Unfortunately all you are is just another number. I needed one (tiny) shot to get me through till my next visit and I called on a Tuesday and they texted me back the next day to say they wouldn't have it ready till the following Tuesday. I spoke with the manager to see if there was any possible way to get it sooner and her EXACT words were "No, we have 6,000 patients that need refills and it's first come first serve". You should do better and actually care about your patients when we are spending THOUSANDS of dollars. If we have to use YOUR pharmacy and you can't keep up with refills maybe you should hire more people for your pharmacy. When you are working on your hormones, last time I checked you shouldn't skip days without medications and act like it's no big deal. Lastly, the manager that I spoke with was so rude and basically told me to go somewhere else!!!!! read more

Protea medical center does not care for the best interest of their patients or have their back by owning their mistakes. I have been a loyal patient with Protea for years spending up to $700 a visit at times, as they do not take insurance, yet up until recently have been happy with my Doctor. I have even referred many friends and family to their practice and know many other patients currently receiving care there. Recently... I scheduled labs in Proteas office and within a few days received a call with inaccurate test results explaining that my bloodwork came back in critical levels and I should immediately go to the emergency room. When they asked if I was bruising or feeling fatigue, I had explained that there was no bruising but of course fatigue, but thought that was normal being over 50. They explained that my levels were very low and explained that levels this low were critical and could be fatal. After missing a half day of work and causing my employer to have to cover my shift, worrying my wife, spending a half day thinking the worst (making plans for death), and paying almost $300 in co-pays at a hospital, my new blood test in the ER showed blood levels that did not even compare to the levels that were presented to me and the ER staff explained that the original labs were most likely not mine at all. After a few follow-up calls with Protea, I was told that the bloodwork was mine and that the blood was simply hemolyzed that could have been caused by improper blood collection techniques like mixing the blood too vigorously or being dropped or delayed in processing by their selected vendor. Protea This is not the first time that Protea called me with misrepresented results either. Protea failed to meet the standard of care by misinterpreting the results and even after such a huge mistake could have easily kept me as a patient by apologizing, accepting their mistake, and simply covering my out of pocket co-pay for the ER. Instead, Protea claims that I would have to take it up with their contracted lab and refused to help. This is considered a breach of their duty to me as a patient. I would not trust this Medical Facility! read more

HIGHLY recommend Dr. Murdoch! I am the typical person who "hates going to the doctor" but Dr. Murdoch changed that for me. She takes her time to really listen to you, understand what is going on, and work with you on a proactive solution. She isn't trying to get through as many patients in a day as she can or just "put a bandaid" on your problem. You can tell she truly cares for her patient's well being and finds personal joy in the individual care she offers her patients. As someone who went from "I never go to the doctor" to now recommending Dr. Murdoch to anyone who will listen, I would highly recommend her. This doctor sounds like a gift from the heavens, but having gone to Protea for a year, I can tell you that their communication is horrible. I had 9 different people texting me, nine, and none really knew my situation. They would pass on information to Dr. Glinieki, but she really only got back to me on scheduled calls. One appt, via phone, was actually cancelled by desk staff because I had not "given them" my blood results. As it turns out, Dr. G HAD read my blood results. I moved my entire day around to be available to talk to Dr. G and it had been cancelled in error. I got a weak apology. I wrote a long letter to Dr. McCarthy, as I ended up in Urgent Care, and got zero response. He seems to care; in reality, he just appears caring but has gotten so big he can't tend to any of his patients, or patients under his doctors. I don't recommend, but take his information off IG and go elsewhere for real help. read more

I have been going to Protea for a couple years now and I am very pleased with the care I receive. The ladies at reception are friendly, professional and fast. And then there is Ryan who also works the front. He's fun, sweet and very personable too! I very much enjoy my Dr. Brittany is awesome! She impresses me; her mind is so sharp! And I'm never rushed. She spends time with you and gets to really know you. I love her and appreciate her. If you are invested in being healthy, she is invested in you! After switching Dr offices I realized the are 5 times to cost of the medications and the office visits are double the cost. The front office staff is incompetent, and the Dr had made many errors. I saw "Dr." Brendan McCarthy about leveling my hormones due to some issues with my metabolism. He decided to "start from scratch" and reset my hormones using HCG shots. These would make me lose between 1-2 pounds a day. He told me this would assist with resetting my body, and that losing weight was not the goal, but the "road to solution." He put me on a strict diet of around 500 calories a day (incredibly unhealthy and dangerous). I lost 20lbs in 30 days, and after the round of shots was over, he stopped communication with me and NEVER followed up. I ended up gaining that weight back (and then some) rapidly. I later came to find out that patients were suing doctors for prescribing this type of treatment due to the dangerous side effects and long term health issues. His treatment was irresponsible and dangerous, especially for a 22 year old woman. This man is operating way outside his depth. read more

I should have about 20 notes in my chart. They didn't seem to care much when I told them I was switching. Lets me know I made the right choice. read more

My husband and I have been going here for several years and Dr. McCarthy and Dr. Warren are excellent! They are very thorough. They go over so many different indicators for full bloodwork, explaining each one, the normal ranges, where I'm at, the causes and if it's off, whether we should do something about it. They ask about lifestyle, energy, libido, stress level and they care about your answers. I feel so much better since before I started coming here! Hormones are the key to this life, I'm convinced! I have had great experiences with all of the doctors I have worked with here. Ive been to so so many allopathic doctors and my mom finally recommended trying the all natural route and that is what brought me to protea. They practice all-natural medicine and my favorite thing about them is how much they care about their patients. I have been to many doctors who sit down with me for less than 5 minutes and then send me off for tests. They don't care, they just want little time with you and more money. I so wish that I was giving a five star review, but alas, that was not my experience. Referred by a friend, I went to Dr. Warren at Protea Medical Center. My first visit with her was awesome! I felt heard, understood and like I had a medical advocate on my side - FINALLY. Initially I went to Dr. Warren because I had multiple sinus infections, lethargy, irregular periods, weight gain, was trying to get off anxiety meds and a list of other problems. The fact that they're not covered by insurance didn't matter to me as I was willing to pay whatever it cost to finally feel better. After my first round of blood work and investment of a few hundred dollars, Dr. Warren put me on testosterone shots, progesterone, thyroid medication, upped my regular medications and a whole litany of supplements. I was game - as long as it was going to help me feel better, even if it drained my bank account. After seven weeks on testosterone, my face and back had broken out like a 15 year old boy on steroids. I called Dr. Warren and told her I thought going off of it was best for me as I had zero positive side effects and my skin was beginning to scar. My next visit with her was a couple months later - I had gained more weight (despite the keto fad diet she had the nutritionist put me on) and my skin was barely starting to heal. I mentioned to her that since the time I'd seen her, I'd fallen ill with another sinus infection and shingles and that I felt the priority of my immune system was getting clouded in my care. She got defensive and said that I stopped following her protocol with not finishing the testosterone. She started blaming me for not seeing her for two months (although I told her multiple times that I was ill with shingles and not able to leave the house!). She calmed down and said she wanted to do another round of blood work (another $125 appointment and $300 in lab fees) to focus on the immune issues as we had gotten off course. Since that time, I've had multiple blood draws and each time it's another $125 to review etc. I'm not any better and have been getting even more frustrated with the situation. My last appointment I went in to review more blood work. During the visit, I expressed my frustration that I'd been seeing them for 10 months and had spent a small fortune, had so much blood drawn I could have given transfusions to an army of people and was no better off. I'd even gone up in weight (AGAIN!) My anxiety was worse and I had been sick 2 more times since our last visit. She looked me right in the eye and told me that I could call her anytime and she was on my side. And I believed her. Following the visit, my anxiety medication needed a refill (BTW, she never gives refills as an excuse to get you to come in - I swear it's just about the money) so I called her to talk to her about it. My call was to find out if I should go down another increment or stay on what I was on. I left one voice mail, and another and four voice mails in (over the span of a week and by then I was out of medication with no refills at all) she NEVER called me back. Not once. I trusted this doctor, and had several instances over the time I was under her care where she never called me back, so I was fed up. I called the office one more time and told the receptionist that the message she could leave for Dr. Warren was that she had lost a patient. And shocker, Dr. Warren never called me again. Over the course of 10 months, I had my blood drawn 6 times, had suffered from the flu, 5 sinus infections, shingles and 4 colds, had disfiguring acne as a result of the testosterone (which I was scolded for stopping) and spent over $1500 out of pocket. I was no better, my weight only continued to climb, my fatigue had gotten out of control and I was no better off. Not to mention the amount of time I spent driving all over town to get compound pharmaceuticals, shots, calling with no return calls from the doctor and the energy of going through this doctors office...I'm now no longer a patient of Protea Medical. read more

Brendan McCarthy, ND, LAc was my acupuncturist before he graduated from SCNM, and now he's my husband's doctor as well. He's phenomenally friendly and super cool. He'll take an extraordinary amount of time researching your case, answering your questions, and making you feel better. He does acupuncture, herbs, hormone balancing, environmental medicine, physical medicine and a ton of IVs for any disease process you may have going on. I'm currently doing a rotation here and have had the opportunity to see Dr. McCarthy work with a variety of patients. They all love him. Today one of them even said "He's so great because he makes me feel as if I'm the only patient." He also has a colon hydrotherapist here doing colonics and Garrett Wdowin, ND just joined the practice as well. And, he's really good with fitting people into his schedule. From a young age, I was submerged in the medical system due to some unfamiliar ailments and symptoms after an overseas mission trip. Beginning at age 17, I spent nearly every day of the rest of my high school experience at Mayo clinic. I saw nearly every kind of specialist. Was poked with more needles than I can count. Written more pain pill prescriptions than is healthy. (don't worry, I didn't take them) I was run through nearly every test imaginable. That is, every test except for the ones I requested. I was nothing more than a test specimen. I didn't fit in their trick box of diagnosis, so therefore, the doctors simply told me the issue was in my head. Desperate to find the source and solution to my sickness I even saw a psychiatrist. However, the psychiatrist quickly dismissed any option of it being a mental issue. Drained of blood, from endless blood tests, and hope of ever being healed, I had complete distrust for any doctor and the medical system all together. I set out to simply live as healthy as one could. I was determined to get the most out of life in spite of constant pain and lethargy. Focused on nutritional medicine, I spent the next several years researching and implementing the healthiest lifestyle I could come up with. Pain was something I could tolerate. With such a limited diet, and more travels abroad for education, I was extremely thin and became concerned my body was beginning to shut down. So, I saw a nutritionist. She recommended I get some tests run, but with my mistrust for our medical system I ask if she at least had a Naturopath she could recommend. "Ironically" she had one. She had met Dr. McCarthy the day prior to me seeing her, uncanny timing if I do say so myself. That week, with my novel of a medical history, I went to Protea to see Dr. McCarthy. With a true level of care and interest to see me healthy, he went through every page of my medical reports. He spent time getting to know me as an individual and as a patient. He cast a wide net and was willing to think outside of the tight box other medical practices are refined to. Sure enough, he quickly discovered a bacteria that could have killed me prior to finding it. At age 21, under the care of Dr. McCarthy I began long road to healing and getting my body back to health. My body had shut down every non vital function in order to focus on staying alive, particularly hormone production. He has worked to get my hormones back to their peak levels and ensure I am not masking symptoms but am truly healthy. He is unlike any doctor I have ever encountered (which is a lot) and has a genuine concern for individual's wellbeing. I can highly recommend and attest to his level of care within his practice. I have been treated for hypothyroid for about 17 years. I have stated through most of these that I always felt under cared-for by the physicians that treated me. Even though I would sit there in front of them, heavily burdened with uncomfortable, chronic AND acute symptoms, rarely would any of these treating physicians look up from my "normal" labs to treat the human being sitting right there in front of them. Never did any of them suggest additional testing to find out why I wasn't feeling 100%. If I asked questions, I was easily dismissed, just to continue half-assed treatment...or maybe even referred to another half-assed physician who would do no better. THEN I was referred to Protea by not one, but two, different people. At my first opportunity, I called to make an appointment to see if I could finally find someone that would help me get to the bottom of my imbalances. My experience was nothing but awesome from that very first phone call. They answered my questions regarding billing, cost of services, etc, without making me feel rushed. They scheduled me with Dr. Whaley and she was also an absolute delight! I actually felt "heard" for the first time in my life! Dr. Whaley was eager to do thorough testing to get a completely accurate picture of what is really going on with me. She answered all my questions, even the ones I didn't think to ask. She was incredibly informative, compassionate, and willing to work WITH me as a part of my healing team. She drew some conclusions about what might be going on and encouraged me to do research and contact her directly with any further questions. When my labs came back, she went through line by line, helping me understand all the good and no-so-good levels. As it turns out, her suspicions were accurate and now I am well on my way to recovering from decades of feeling like dog shit! I visited the center in Arrowhead/Glendale. I visited this clinic as a first-timer to try injectables. Was pleasantly greeted upon my arrival. The person who had an appointment before me was a little late, so I waited about 15-20 mins. No problem. Receptionist was sincerely apologetic. Clinic was clean, there was a public waiting area by the receptionist and also a private waiting room down the hall. The nurse who showed me the room was nice and was quick to grab the doctor. The doctor who performed the service was very friendly, very helpful in answering my questions, and I could tell she cared about my wellbeing. The service itself was quick and painless. The price I paid was great, and I would be totally comfortable returning to this place for a future visit. read more
