Our OC Broomball group has been playing at KHS Ice for probably over ten years now, usually one or two Saturday nights a month. They have two surfaces, one full size rink and a second slightly smaller rink. The locker rooms are clean and there are quite a few of them. They host all sorts of events including hockey leagues, stick time, private coaching sessions, open skating, and private events such as our broomball games. The central OC location is great for our group since we often have members coming to our games from as far south as San Diego and as far north as Sherman Oaks. The Rinks Foundation purchased the rink a few years ago and put a lot of money into renovating the facility including lots of new paint, flooring, insulation, resurfaced ice, etc. Shout out to Dawson for always being so accommodating and helping me book ice time so frequently. read more

When the Rinks took over KHS, they cleaned up the facility and made some needed repairs. There are two ice rinks and quite a few options for pickup and stick times. Although they have a pro shop and a snack bar on site, I am yet to have ever seen them open so I have no idea what their hours are. My biggest complaint is about the parking. There is a small lot in front and some parking on the back side, but if there are games going on you may want to plan ahead and be prepared to walk a bit. read more

The one star is for today only and how the stick time was handled. 30+ people signed up for stick time today on Rink B, which is the small sheet. Nevertheless, 1/2 the ice was taken up by coaches. Specifically, 1/3 of the ice (from blue line in) was occupied by two coaches who split that ice: (1) a goalie coach with only one student; and (2) another coach with 3 students. Then, from the red line to that blue line was another coach who had maybe 6+students. The remaining half was for 30+ skaters and one net. In a nutshell, 30+ people, including guys who are rocketing shots into the one net mixed with kids skating around as well, skating on half a sheet while 4 people on the other 1/3 plus 6 more taking up red line to that blue line. Does that make any sense? In speaking with the manager, Matt, who was very nice and professional, the cutoff for stick time is apparently 50 people. And if there are coaches, they can take up to 1/2 the ice. That's ridiculous. I'm sorry, while that may seem feasible, it's not. Today was a recipe for disaster ...you cram 30+ people on a 1/2 sheet with only one net as well and a kid is going to get hurt real bad with guys firing pucks like they are trying out for a pro team. Someone getting hurt bad is absolutely foreseeable to the rink. Frankly, the coach policy needs to be reconsidered when the number of skaters signed up is over 20. There's already a closed stick time for coaches only...isn't that enough? Also, maybe more nets should be put out as well so younger kids can try to shoot without the risk of being run over or having their head blown off by a future nobody. read more

This one is more of a hidden gem. A lot of parents don't take their kids to this rink for some reason. It's like in a industrial area a little difficult to find but worth it. Don't know if it just was timing but the Isis always nice. Smooth clean. Whoever's maintaining this drink takes pride in their work. And I love it that it's never cramped. My son has been skating and playing beginner hockey with the various camps and learning to play programs. These were a great starting point, he also does a lot of free skating. But I learned about KHS and their stick time and had to come check it out. You have two rinks on both sides with a little area with lockers and the changing area between the two rinks. They have vending machines that have hockey tape which I thought was a great idea and snacks and water. I have only done ice time which allows my son about two hours to skate around and practice with a puck and shoot on a net. It really is a great way to get him more familiar with the game. My son has been here twice and both times has made friends who have been very helpful in learning the game. I have noticed that the stick time kids/adults only get one-half of the ice. I have heard from other people and yelpers that this is just coaches thinking they run the place. I am going to keep coming here and letting my son get as much ice/stick/puck time as I can. It costs $25 but I think its much more valuable than him doing a free skate. They do have a small concession stand on the right rink, I will try and get some pictures and post them here. A little heads up, the place is smaller than Anaheim Ice and gets much colder and sometimes the exhaust from the Zamboni can linger in the room. If your kid is in hockey and you live in the area it's worth checking out. CHEERS!!! read more

Took my son here yesterday. Overall, we had a pleasant experience. The staff are nice, the lobby is impeccable, the crowd is amazing. Why 3 stars? Bathroom was filthy. There were parts around the rink where theres dirty empty bottles. I wont mind taking my son here again, just hoping that maybe they can pay better attention to the cleanliness of the place. I got it before the entire crowd poured in so I know they should've had the time to tidy things up a bit. read more

We had our first experience here today (11/26/17) and it was outstanding. My little guy (4) wanted to try ice skating but is super shy not exceedingly coordinated. The free skate time was not overcrowded and the other guests were so supportive and encouraging. I can't say enough about how helpful the employees were, in particular a woman with blue hair (I didn't get her name.) She really went above and beyond to make sure our skates fit well, we had everything we needed, and even helped me carry the skate-aid to the ice! I'm not sure if my kid will want to go back anytime soon, but with the Sunday special price ($8 per person!) It was worth every penny! read more

Broomball Review I brought a large college group here a few times already and the first couple times I thought the service was excellent so I decided to come back. They assured me over the phone they had enough brooms and balls and that all the equipment would be ready by the time we arrived. And they kept their word. I was a happy customer recommending KHS to others. Fast forward a bit, upon arriving, the brooms weren't ready, some were even broken and dangerous (which tells me something as simple as checking their equipment is not something they value very highly anymore..), there were less balls than before, the broom colors were unbalanced, and help was hard to come by. I had to ask the front desk multiple times for help before getting any assistance. Long story short, it's a bit disappointing but I'm now looking for a new place to go broomballing. Hopefully, they'll return to their excellent customer service and care. read more

The place is great! Cheap it's only 5 dollars to skate including the rental. There is plenty of parking room. The rink isn't packed. They gave a good snack bar. The only flaw is the upkeep of the skates. The blades need to be sharpened a bit and I got torn skates. This isn't a knock on the place, the receptionist was attentive and asked us if everything was good. I bet if I had asked for other skates she would have been happy to give them. Overall I will be back. My wife loved it and it's not as hectic as the Disney ice rink. read more

KHS Ice Arena is an amazing place to go ice skating, especially if you haven't been in a few years and aren't pro at it. Until this past weekend, I hadn't been ice skating in about 4 years and my boyfriend hadn't been in about 20 years. Needless to say, we were a little rusty. There are a few Public Skate sessions on the weekends and we chose to do the evening session from 6:10-7:50. Random time, I know! It doesn't seem like a long time to go skating, but trust me, it's enough time. I'm pretty active and consider myself to be in pretty good shape, but I could last only about an hour and 15 minutes of the time (and that was with a handful of breaks interspersed in that time). During the time we were there, there was no more then 10-15 people on the ice at any given time, which is awesome! I love this and it made me feel ok that I wasn't going really fast, but just taking my time and focusing on not falling on my butt. Admission is $10 per person and that includes skates. I must say, that's pretty cheap for an ice skating rink (I know the one in Aliso Viejo charges $17 a person). Staff is friendly, there are lockers to store your personal belongings, and the bathrooms were pretty clean! All good things in my book! Overall, I really enjoyed my visit to KHS Ice Arena. I'd come back the next time I'm craving some ice skating and don't want to pay an arm and a leg to go. Cheers! read more

Note this is not a review for free skate or hockey or anything like that -- Our church has reserved a rink for broomball here for a few years in a row, and have had great experiences! -The staff are helpful and responsive via email, which is how we typically make our reservations -We do a 1.5 hour reservation, which feels like enough time, but I could easily see going longer (2 hours?) if you have a lot of people who like to run around -There are two rinks (A/B). We prefer A because I think it's bigger with more seating above it, but that could just be my poor memory. -You can ask them to play music through Bluetooth that's connected in the office (but that means your phone has to be close enough to maintain signal) - this is for Rink A, when we had reserved B a few years ago the music system didn't work as well but that could have changed in the time past -Convenient location near the freeway, but it's kind of hard to see from the street (especially at night), so just follow Google Maps and drive slowly before the turn in (and note that there are two parking lots) read more

We rented the KHS ice rink for my son's 18th birthday this last weekend so family and friends could play Broomball on the ice there. We had so much fun. There were a few doubters in our group that my son invited, the too-cool-for-school types. Being that they were 17 and 18 years old, they thought they wouldn't have fun. But they put their phones down, stepped out onto the ice in their tennis shoes, began slipping and sliding and playing broomball (like hockey with special sticks and a ball) and the fun had began. Everyone had a great time. We played for an hour and it went by quickly. I haven't laughed that hard in a long time. It was a perfect. The staff was great, supplied all the Broomball sticks and balls, had a special sign set up that announced my son's birthday and were very welcoming. Went for my Bruce's 17th birthday. Luckily they had 1 pair of figure skates left that I could fit. Definitely kid friendly though! They were able to accommodate my toddler (#LyricMarquis) with skates and the plastic thing to hold on to and he had a blast! Wish their public skate times were longer! read more

Came here to play broomball with an organization I am in with different universities and it was a great experience. The place was big enough for ALL of us. There was maybe like 100+ of us. Something you must know...it's not like normal ice rinks. This place is 5x colder than all the other places I've been too. I am usually able to handle cold but this was freezing. We come here every year with my godkids... every year we have a GREAT time, this establishment is great... but not perfect... Only two gripes... 1) The public session deserves to have a smooth rink... it seems to only be serviced before hockey sessions, but if you think about it, most inexperienced skaters will probably be on the ice during public sessions and will be more susceptible to falling and getting injured due to rough ice. 2) I cannot stress this enough... but the rental skates are soooooooo uncomfortable. I mean they're just painful... my feet were killing us before we even got on the ice; we couldn't skate for more than 5-minutes at a time before having to take a break because our skates hurt so badly. If the skates were more comfortable then I'd be posting that 5th Star, but I just couldn't ignore the pain. read more

Our church hosted a Broomball event at KHS last weekend for our college and high school students. They had a blast! We used "Rink A," which provides a lot of seating for parents and those students who are there to watch rather than play. The KHS was easy to work with from the start. They were quick to respond to emails, the ice was ready on time, and the payment method was easy and hassle-free. Only reason I can't give 5 stars is because it took a few calls to get a hold of the office staff initially. But once we spoke, things were smooth-sailing from there. I'd recommend this rink to anyone for a private Broomball event anytime! read more

The people that work at this facility are unprofessional...and ghetto...rolling eyes at parents/customers....they treat parents that drop kids off for lessons like thieves... They forget hockey league fees and other costs for their kids are in the 5k-10k...so paying for the rink fee of three coffees cost isn't much... Why would it be so hard not to allow the parents to get their kids gears on so they can get on the ice...then we will PAY...instead of accusing the coach patents are not paying...Don't act so ghetto and assuming we parents, of whom are in corporate management going to rob you of your rink fees...The staff attitude towards their customers is so distasteful... If it wasn't for the coaches giving lessons there, we would never recommend this facility to anyone... read more

I really like this place. The stick time was not overly crowded and reasonably priced. I do like how the locker rooms come with a key and how public skating was so cheap today. Plus there were only like 5 people on the ice! Plenty of room to practice. It's very clean and clean smelling :) There is a snack bar if you're hungry and parking is also a breeze. read more

It happened today. While I was skating, for the first time ever....my skates just felt like an extension of my body, and not some klunky attachment that I was skating in spite of. Two seconds after I realized this, I totally ate sh*t. But that's ok. Anyway....back to the rink. This rink is good because there are actually two rinks here; generally a hockey rink and a figure skating rink, but they are doing some maintenance now so that has changed a little. Because there are two rinks, they have a VERY large selection of skating and hockey classes. If you want to learn to skate, I really think that this is the place to do it. When I first tried to learn to skate a couple of years ago, this is where I came, and I LOVED my instructor. I am back again now after an injury (not skating related) and again, my instructor, Paula, is amazing. In fact, she and the other instructors here are the reason that this place gets 4 stars instead of 2.5. If you come here to public skate, be warned, the customer service kind of sucks. The teenagers that work in the box office and skate rental area don't seem to care all that much. I don't say this lightly because I have to show my face in this place several times a week, and I know there may be some repercussions from the above statement:) This is not a pretty shiny fancy "Oh I think I will public skate once and then not do it again for 2 years". No. This is a REAL rink. Opens early, closes late, has people hitting it hard. Dirty, dingy, a little cave-like. BUT If you are learning to skate (or want to learn to skate) If you play hockey (or want to learn to play hockey) If you already skate and need a place to practice your skills If you want to get out of the heat This is the rink to do it in. It is like the difference between going to a pool at a country club, and going to a pool where athletes practice. The latter doesn't need to be pretty....just functional. I highly recommend taking a skating lesson. In addition to the normal kids classes (of which there are a ton) there are also adult-only classes so you don't have to feel like an ass in front of the 4 year old who is doing triple lutzes around you. If you're too scared to commit to a whole session of lessons, they will even let you try one (pro-rated) to see if you like it. If this helps at all: there is another rink that is almost 30 minutes closer to my house. But I go to this one. read more

Would give 1 star, but went in knowing it was a no-frills rink, also nice hard ice. Came on a Sunday for the $5 public session. Rental hockey skates were trash. Worst I've ever used. An eyelet was torn. No edges and the right skate was positively cambered so much that I could see it was off compared to the left skate. Had to double check it was a right skate. I could barely walk on them. Attempted to use the locker, put my stuff in, put 50 cents in, but the key jammed when trying to remove it and my stuff was locked in the locker! Waddled my way to the box office and the two girls working told me that "they don't own or operate the lockers" and instructed me to go talk to the snack bar. Waddled my way to the snack bar and the dude seemed genuinely confused and said "I only work here at the snack bar, talk to the box office. They told you to talk to me?!". Waddled my way back to the box office and the girls informed me again that "they don't own the lockers". Anyway, finally jimmied the key back in and was able to open the locker. Put my chances on another locker since I just wanted to skate. The ice was amazing but useless to me as the rental skates were so beat. Even the slowest of strides the skates wouldn't hold an edge. I was Bambi on ice. I might as well have just gotten on the ice with my sneakers, at least it would've been even. Right skate was practically positively cambered compared to the left (yes I double checked it was a right skate). tl;dr: Great ice, amazing ice! but bring your own skates. This review is mainly for hockey players that are looking for a facility with bunch of stick time options. The staff here are very friendly. They love to help in any way possible. They have stick times almost all day going up till 5pm Monday through Friday's. They have two rinks at this establishment. Locker rooms are pretty clean for the most part. The ice isn't bad either. My biggest complaint is that their proshop is never open. And the edges of the ice touching the boards aren't the best. Also this place is hit or miss with stick time. Some days you will be the only one out there. And other days there are high school and private lessons. On those days good luck finding a piece of ice. read more

I'm giving this rink 5 stars because it offers more ice time than any of the Anaheim Ducks owned rinks. We are lucky to have KHS in Orange County. I agree with other reviewers that sticktimes are sometimes crowded with coaching sessions. Been once and had a good time but their website needs help. It doesn't work and it's very annoying.

Do not go here for open skate unless it's their night weekend skate. They do not regulate people practicing. They will race by you and try to run you off the rink. I understand it's probably fun for them. I would do it if I was that fast. I left after 15 minutes out in the death colosseum, after expecting to make a few hours of it. I did tell the ticketing staff about my experience and they were more then nice to give me tickets to their night skate which they said would be more appropriate. I just wish I would have known before I spent forever getting those skates on. read more

Took my Jr. High group to KHS to play broomball! It was a blast and they loved it! However, we almost didn't have enough blue 'brooms' to play with because some of them were broken. They just need to get some new ones. But other than that, it was VERY fun! read more

This is a no-frills ice skating rink, which I like since i'm not that great at ice skating. On Sundays they have $5 public skating which includeds your skates, now that's a deal! Make sure you check their website for times that the rink is running public skating, they seem to have them inbetween their ice hockey games that go on throughout the day. Also, this rink never gets crowded like the other rinks so if youre not that great or want to practice your triple axle you have the room and wont have to worry about running itno anyone. I'd give this place more stars but their customer service is terrible and they NEVER have quarters for the lockers and the facility is kind of old. read more

Its in a sketch area that's for sure, but once you get inside its not as scary. We went on a Saturday night for the public skating session from 8-9:10PM. $13 altogether ($10 + $3 for skate rental). All in all I'd say there were about 30 or so people and only about half knew what they were doing, but they let the rest of us feebly attempt to try and skate so I'd say the date night was a success. :) By the time our hour and 10 minutes was up, I was able to make it 1/4 of the way without having to sit down or stop against the wall because of my ankles hurting. And we only fell once! PROGRESS. :D One thing though, the fact that the public sessions all cost $10 (and $3 for skate rental) but have different lengths of time (ex. 8-9:10 vs 1:50-3:40) seems a little unfair. If you have a whole hour less, shouldn't it be cheaper? That's why 4 stars. :T read more
