A great introduction to what is yet to come We went for the Ham Hock Croquette & Crispy Baby Artichokes. Both wonderful, Croquette is more filling and a bigger portion than the Artichokes but both are worth trying. 2 of us went for the Rib of Beef: perfectly cooked, great seasoning and fantastic sauce, the beef was melting on our tongues. The cod was beautifully cooked, and extremely well presented. We didn't go for desserts but they were looking good as they were passing by. In short, it feels warm and cosy and welcoming. They do simple but tasty pub grub. Out the back, there is a beer garden and they also have a large dining section. There's also a bit of car parking available. Our son was very impressed with the large fishtank. Well placed in the middle of the village.

The food is very traditional, including fish and chips and bangers and mash and caters for children. The views are lovely as it is set in a green area overlooking trees and grass. The building is very old, dating back to the 15th century adding to its traditional style.

I was not surprised to subsequently learn that Neal (the pubs owner) had been head chef at the five star South Lodge Hotel (where HM Gov hosted the latest round of G20 talks) - their loss is our gain. Cannot praise the food and service highly enough - no wonder it made the top 50 in a survey of UK Gastro Pubs run by the Independant Newspaper! A little pricy if you think of it as pub grub at £35 per head (but that did include three rounds of drinks and a tip) but the food, staff and ambience of the place set it far above a mere pub and well into posh nosh territory !
