Went with my wife and a couple of friends and dined at ther Chequers for the first time.
A really welcoming gastro pub with real ale on tap - staff were friendly and attentive and we all agreed that the food was out of this world !
I was not surprised to subsequently learn that Neal (the pubs owner) had been head chef at the five star South Lodge Hotel (where HM Gov hosted the latest round of G20 talks) - their loss is our gain. Cannot praise the food and service highly enough - no wonder it made the top 50 in a survey of UK Gastro Pubs run by the Independant Newspaper!
A little pricy if you think of it as pub grub at £35 per head (but that did include three rounds of drinks and a tip) but the food, staff and ambience of the place set it far above a mere pub and well into posh nosh territory !
Highly recommended. read more
