The service was friendly, professional, accommodating and the atmosphere very laid back and relaxed. Great, service, great food, great value for money and a lovely atmosphere. I had to hit a pub and get some pub food before I left Europe. Won't be here probably for a few years, so I had to go out with a bang. This was a few miles from our hotel and the reviews were great so I gave it a shot. You find a table, go to the bar and order, and then they bring the food to you! Presto! Alakazam! The food is priced a little bit too high for the quality, but it's really good. I'm now a huge fan of meat pies, and they do it right here. Also, the lamb shank was great and the service was pretty good as well. The bartender/waiter had a hard time understanding us a bit, but I guess our English is a bit different than the British. I really think this is a great little location, and I'm really going to miss England. Long live the Queen! read more

I lived in London for about a year and this was definitely one of my favorites place to go. It is a bit out of London - closer to Gatwick. For lunch, I would normally take my team on a weekly basis here. My favorite dish is the Guiness pie. It is to die for. It is served with carrots and peas and a side of fries. Being a teacher, having a pub nearby is essential! If I apply for another job.. I will always consider how far a pub is, from the school! Anyway, this place is really good! I know pubs don't really reflect their name. I mean for example you get pubs called the cow and the one legged horse... Although that is somewhat a likely combination, let's face it, a one legged horse would of been put down after loosing the first three! Anyway. This is called the hill side. It's not really what it sounds like, it's on a hill, near the side of a road. Even though the road is fairly busy, it's got a big outdoor area. Perfect for a sunny afternoon after school! I've been here many times also in the winter. If I've got parents evening or whatever, I'll just go there grab a drink and a bite to eat with some work mates and then go back to school. It's got a very country like oldish feel to it. I love that kind of look! Old wooden beams etc. The food they sell is pretty reasonable for what it is. It's tasty and good for pub grub! The chips are really thick, soft and generous ! They have a good choice of condiments IN METAL JARS. This is important, I hate squeezing sauce out of a packet. It's messy, it makes you feel like a pig because if your anything like me. Your have to go through at least 6 to get a decent amount! read more

Enjoyed a nice meal and drinks with a fun group of eight tonight before a wedding. Nice old-fashioned English meals and desserts with a good choice of beers and ciders. Service was decent and humorous. Will definitely return one day and try again. read more

Came across this pub recently on our way back from a day out in the country. We had walked all day and were starving. As luck would have it they had a special offer of two courses and a glass of wine for £15. Compared to London prices this is a bargain - especially considering the quality of the food! This is a weekly "Fish Friday" promotion they are running. A bit of a surprise, then, that the barman didn't know what I was talking about and accused me of trying to order from the lunch menu. Rather disappointing as I had queued for a while after having been ignored by a couple of waiters in the restaurant area. Luckily, a lovely server took control of the situation and looked after us brilliantly for the rest of the evening - naturally and effordlessly, so we felt genuinely welcome after all. Back to the food, which was a very pleasant surprise. I ordered panfried cod which was served on a bed of mediterranean vegetables and new potatoes. This was the greasy option compared to my friend's much healther seared tuna on couscous and I had a brief attack of food envy. Ah yes, we both went for the portobello mushroom starters which were delicious. The choice of wine part of the deal was limited to one red and one white. Both the Merlot and Sauvignon were very nice. Will definitely visit again should we ever be in this part of the world again - or even make a special journey. read more

This is a friendly pub that has quite a good atmosphere. It serves the usual pub food and it gets quite busy at times. The food is reasonably priced and the service is good. One thing I like about this pub is that you order at the bar and then the food is brought to you - therefore you can leave straight away after you've finished your meal without waiting to get the bill. In a nice summer's day, there are seats out in the garden though the noise of the traffic can be distracting at times. The car park can get quite busy. Otherwise, a nice pub to visit that doesn't require you to venture into Crawley town centre. read more

A truly great pub, fantastic food and great value for money. Every time I have been here the staff have been very polite and offer a great service. I have never waited too long for food, and it has always been pipping hot! On a summers day it is also very nice to sit in the garden as it is a great sun trap! On a winters day it is lovely to sit inside right by a large open traditional fire :-) Either summer or winter this pub offers a really warm welcoming atmosphere. read more

I used to live just up the road from the Hillside, so went there a fair few times for some drinks and it is a really lovely place. The decor is just what I like.. big stone fireplaces and old wood everywhere. The front garden/seating is nice as well. My only complaint (Which wouldn't stop me going there.) is that I have dealt with a rude staff member or two before.. but nothing over the top. read more

This is a very nice warm and friendly pub that do excellent sunday roasts - with all the sauces you can think of. The prices are ok £7.95ish for a full roast but the atmosphere makes it worth it. Its one of those pubs to take the missus or parents to!! Would recommend read more
