(1 star) literally no stars…read more... I paid $100 per ticket (two tickets) to experience what was honestly the worst New Year's celebration I've ever been to at Temple Nightclub. This night was supposed to be both my birthday and New Year's Eve, and nothing about this experience justified the price or the hype. There was no NYE countdown at all, which is unbelievable for a New Year's event. No moment, no energy, no collective celebration -- it honestly felt like just another dead night at a club. The vibe was extremely low. People looked sad, bored, or irritated, not excited to ring in a new year. Most people weren't even dressed like it was NYE, which says a lot about how poorly this event was curated. I like Ogeesy, but his performance was very underwhelming. He barely performed, did not engage the crowd, and brought no energy. It felt rushed and disconnected, not like a headlining New Year's set at all. To make things worse, everything was spilled everywhere, and despite having Tier 2 tickets, we were never given wristbands to access the upper level we paid for. Nothing about this night felt celebratory, special, or high-vibe -- especially for entering a new year or celebrating a birthday. I truly regret spending this money and wish I could get a refund so I can redo my birthday, because this was easily the most disappointing NYE experience I've ever had. I expected far more from Temple, especially at this price point.

October 5-8, 2006 in Burlingame, CA. is the best West Coast Swing dance competition in the US…read more Usually on the Columbus day, holiday weekend of October. 1200 WCSwing competitors and social dancers come from across the US, Canada, England, Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii, Scotland and France to compete, take workshops and social dance on a 5200 sq. ft. dance floor. Four days are allotted for WCS dancing and socializing. There is also a second ballroom for Lindy dancers. If you want to see the best West Coast swing in the country, come out on a Saturday or Sunday night and see the best of the best compete, it is awesome to see. If you love partner dancing, love dancing to top 40's, R & B, Motown, Blues and Jazz, this is the dance for you. The 3 day event pass covers watching the competitions, social dancing, 10+ workshops and Saturday buffet. There are one day passes and evening passes avail for those who just want to check it out. Nearby to other restaurants, Max's Opera Cafe, Elephant Bar and a movie theater.

Came here for their early bird class (marching orders from my West Coast Swing prof at ccsf)…read more First off, it's rather expensive to park in their parking structure (charges by the hour - my final tally was around $14 for a little more than 2 hrs), so look for some on the street - should be plenty within a couple of blocks. The lessons and the dance were just $10. I've never taken a class that had 200 students in it! It is a spectacle to see so many pairs of wcs enthuasiasts, all their slots lined up in parallel - there were four rows of maybe 50 people each running across the entire dance floor, which was held in the main conference room. As we rotated partners, I think I barely got through one row to the other side of the floor. The teachers, Kyle and Sara, were fabulous, complementing each other as they gave commentary and critique in rapid-fire succession. And of course, there was a free dance afterwards, where all the convention competitors took to the floor and lit in on fire. Literally.

Duo rooms--classic, superb layout,…read moredepth human encounters--for me a one of a kind human moment is when, they, whose name I sadly never got (got my name when I fain singed it) with whom our gazes got caught, and I the Italian, gestured my hands towards them standing aside their trio street side. Meanwhile I was in the midst of hatching my get early away scene--a guilt free mid-week dance, drink, smoke session before dialing all the way in for teaching the next 6 days at a retreat. And then we met. Thank dear darling one for indulging our connection despite my faux pas(?), gesturing to my phone to communicate, and you connecting with me through text on your phone to say, don't worry I've dealt with people like you, so of course, I added you:[?]. After kindly entered me into their cypher, we soon parted ways. But first they asked me to share my name. I broke off for a moment to gather my nerve and bring focus to my hands and fingers to show you: Josh; which you gracefully heard--confirming twice--and encouraged me to sign my name again, this time with your guidance. Then mysteriously you slid back into the club with your delightful counterpart. Night; life; made.

First time here, and I dig it…read more Stopped in on a Saturday night for an event known as Chunk during Dore Alley weekend (end of July) - I didn't see a lot for advertising on the F8 website or their social media which is kind of sad TBA - love that they support events like this and help foster a safe space for all especially QTBIPOC as advertise on many of their regular nights and events - but don't enjoy that they didn't promote this body positive inclusive event as much as others or advertise (really) with the exceptions of tags and stories. The music was cool (very house), but a little beyond blaring at times, they eventually adjusted it - there's nightclub great and there's I need ear plugs just to enjoy myself/adjust - might just be my more laidback mellow nature. Being a big event I purchase a ticket online weeks in advance when planning my weekend in SF - not too many people were as familiar with F8 in my circle of friends including locals, my boyfriend (who lived in the area for years before moving to LA - and frequent visitor) definitely hadn't heard of it and having a solo outing to myself I went in with an open mind and Saturday Night fever. Drinks were good - good alternatives to cocktails also - Golden State Cider was my friend instantly along with their RUM PUNCH via the Craft/Signature Cocktails they offer. Lighting is very clubhouse scene meets lounge fun but give your eyes a second to adjust - can be more bright and colorful during their EDM, Dance Wave. Luckily I ran into my new friend Justin visiting from Arizona and spent the rest of the night getting to know him better, both of us only stayed for I think two hours, enjoyed the drinks - bartenders were nice (hard to hear at times), DJ was pretty dope well - the one in the main room especially There's a small, more intimate dance floor with another DJ, which I hung out in for a little before it got a little tight to move around. Didn't want to get trapped in the dance stew for too long. Awesome energy. Restrooms were decent and easy to access - the lines were never too long. The private lounge typically reserved for private parties was open for the event night - mingle with several people here and unwound finishing my last drink - it was nice after some dancing and whatnot. The coat/clothing/item check is just before this room - depending on what you're checking the price might vary - since I put my items in my drawstring bag and my vest they gave me the bag check price (only $5 compared to I wanna say 2 to 3 dollars). Hold onto that number or take a picture of it because you will need to verify when you're ready to leave. Updates to F8's space: "F8 seeks to maintain a safe and inclusive space for all, especially the QTBIPOC folks in our dance community. We have zero tolerance for harassment of any kind--sexual, physical, and verbal, including expressions of racism, misogyny, and bigotry. If you are a victim of such behavior, please notify any member of f8's staff who will take immediate action." Looking at upcoming non-third party fun, the Run It Back: Underground Showcase night seems like a fun event - free with RSVP until 11p plus complimentary champagne from 9p to 10p - cheers to this. Not always a cover night or event, but definitely keep an eye on their calendar for your dance club experience. Also, a venue for all sorts of parties and occasions - submit and inquiry and expect a timely response. Party hardy, drink not necessarily Bacardi, enjoy responsibly, and of course dance like no one's watching ;)
