Far too often the word 'Grill' is associated, in restaurant terms, with rather tacky low quality chain pubs or simply places where they char meat and throw it at you. Thankfully, the Renshaw Grill is here to restore our faith, offering a mouthwatering menu of burgers, steaks, surfs and turfs and traditional dishes that are sure to provide comfort as well as a full belly.
What helps is that the place actually looks very sophisticated, and the service is smiley and pleasant. And they just happen to do that most coveted of dish, the humble quesadilla, which I love times about a billion. They can be very messy but that's part of the charm, and this one has pineapples in it which gives it extra va-va-voom. The mains focus primarily on meat (all locally sourced), as you'd expect, and the accompaniments are equally stars of the show with the likes of enormous and poshly-arranged chunky chips, tomatoes baked in garlic, Portobello mushrooms, dauphinoise potatoes and seasonal veg. But the puddings are where it's at, or at least for me, with a slow-baked New York cheesecake, one of my absolute favourites, as well as the option of a gooey brownie with ice cream, which I'd normally jump at but since I've perfected the humble chewy soft chocolate brownie in my own kitchen I refuse to eat it elsewhere now.
It certainly looks the part, and Renshaw Grill has substance too. A clever mixture of fine dining and comfort food for melancholia, I'd recommend it to anyone in the area feeling ravenously hungry and seeking a treat. read more
