It's well established that soul and food go together, Smokey bacon Robinson? Booker Teabag and the PG tips? Ah? Uh? No? OK not really making a good case for this plcae but unlike my jokes, The Soul Cafe has got something going for it. Decent tunes with a good menu at low prices, tick. tick. tick. Full breakfast selection a wide choice of sandwiches, salads and bages plus more hearty meals like scouse and pastas - of course the only thing the place could benefit from is to serve actual soul food, some fried chicken and dumplings would be a real draw to this part of town, in fact are there any black restaurants left in town? Quinny's seems to have finally given up the ghost, could be a good opening for any authentic West Indian/Soul food joints. There is also a very small terrace but this is mainly commandeered by smokers but there is little reason why anybody else would want to sit on the corner of Bold St.

There seems to be a decidedly odd bunch of people who come here, but I like the food so I don't mind. There is one reason alone why this place is worth going to, and that is Thanksgiving. For some reason, (perhaps because it is a retro American Motown cafe) they have a Thanksgiving menu every year, and it had become a tradition for me and my mum to go. No, we are not American. But it's a great rehearsal for Christmas Dinner! Thanksgiving dinner is pretty much the same as your standard Christmas roast, but tastes so much better because its not on Christmas and you've not had to slave in an overheated kitchen to feed the family. Thanksgiving food aside, it is a genuinely funky daytime venue. One word of advice though: if you are going for food, either sit at a proper table or at the bar stools around the edges, because once you get on those sofas or comfy seats you a) can't get up again and b) can't reach your food!!!

There are quite a few pubs in Liverpool named The Beehive but my favourite has to be this place…read moremainly because of its excellent location right at the heart of Liverpool and in close proximity to Liverpool One. This place is a typical old man's pub if you will and this is no bad thing as they no how to pour a good pint and provide a warm and relaxing atmosphere. At most times of day this place has a good crowd of drinkers inside all of whom seem to be friendly and welcoming. The staff are welcoming also and really make sure that you feel welcome as a valued customer. There is food available here and it is worth a try it is mainly home cooked dishes which really hit the spot when you are in need of a good eat. The prices are excellent for such a central pub and as such this place is a winner every time.

Nestled in the midst of commercial paradise, The Beehive flouts the new buildings surrounding it,…read moreholding on tightly to the traditionalism it appears to represent. In fact, at this particular time, there is a large and colourful dragon painted on the windows, in anticipation of St George's Day. Even though, as a city, we tend to get more excited about Paddy's Day, it's nice to see that some establishments haven't forgotten what country they're in. Last time I was in here I was accompanied by Red Watch of the local Fire Station (don't ask) and we were all squashed into the area directly in front of the bar. As it was the week before Christmas, it was understandably busy, but thanks to the company I was keeping, I never had to battle over to the bar to get a round in. Nice chaps, firemen... Anyway, this is your typical pub that is full of all walks of life from Liverpool. Not quite at the same level as the karaoke pubs like Cooper's, it still retains all the character of an old man's pub. Patrons are friendly and chatty, and you don't feel guilty for listening in on a conversation and laughing along with a joke. There's a convenient smoker's area at the front, and as the pub isn't that large, people tend to spill out to the front if the weather is nice enough. Not a massive range of beers and ales, but enough to keep everyone happy.
