Pie Minister in Liverpool is a new location of the Pie Minister chain, as it is classed as a "Restaurant", rather than a "Cafe", it serves the more extensive Pie Minister menu in comparison to other locations, such as my local branch in Manchester.
This location is on Bold Street in Liverpool city centre, it's within walking distance of most central attractions including both Liverpool Central and Lime Street stations and Liverpool One.
I came here having reserved a table, however when I came in the reservation wouldn't have made a difference as it did appear to be quiet, however, the reservation process was quick and easy to do.
The gluten-free menu was quite impressive, it included three pies and multiple sides, even gluten-free beer! I decided to opt for the Ranger Pie which was chicken, ham, thyme and leek.
The overall feel inside was decent, there was a large number of booths and some regular seating, it was laid out similar to the Pie Minister Cardiff branch, which is the only other branch I've visited and dined at (as sadly the Manchester branch is quite poor and doesn't offer gluten-free selections.)
My pie and mash were presented really well and it came to a total of £7.50, which was very good value for the quality. The meat inside the pie tasted fresh, and I also enjoyed the sauce the pie was in, making the gravy on the side not needed because the flavours of the pie were already there, without the need for it. The pastry for the pie was probably the best I've had since being diagnosed a coeliac, having to eat gluten-free.
The presentation of the mash being under the pie, I also liked and there was a good amount of mash too despite it being slightly hidden.
I decided to pay an extra £1.50 to have a pigs in blanket stick, this also was good, the pigs in blankets had some sort of glaze and it made them taste a lot better.
The staff seemed quite nice, they helped me connect to the wifi with the password "canilickit", which originally caused me some confusion as I didn't know where the capitals should have been, so perhaps the wifi password could have been thought out better as of course, the wifi-password isn't fully grammatically correct due to a lack of capitalisation of "I".
Overall, I was pleased with Pie Minister in Liverpool for offering high-quality pies at an affordable price to warrant a four-star rating, I would have liked to have seen a wider range of pies and maybe more choice of "sticks" to go with the pie too but I still feel this place deserves a solid four-star rating, not bad for a new opening! read more
