Now I doubt you would find a pair of jeans in there, unless they were designer ones moulded on to the body of one of these tight t shirt-wearing troglodytes who skulks about these places. Don't get me wrong, it is no reflection of the place itself, it just seems to attract these wannabes. As I said, it is a very accomplished wine bar and the snacky food I've had here can't be faulted. Unfortunately, the clientele here spoil the atmosphere for me a bit, although they are not as bad as some other places in Allerton. You can have a main course meal as a starter or vice versa as they list every dish on the menu as either a baby or fat dish. Prices were a little more than I like to pay but I would have been disappointed had I had to eat something totally disguisting. As I hadn't I was happy to smile enjoy the food.

The walls are painted bright red, there's a flickering neon sign and the staff all look like they've stepped off a Godard film set. In the daytime, Tabac is a sleepy cafe where you can read the papers, sip a cup of java and fill up on healthy breakfast or lunch. It's at night that it truly comes alive however, with local artists, musicians and students conversing over beer, wine and cocktails. Every Monday and Tuesday evening, Tabac host film screenings of world cinema in the back room and on Wednesdays, there's live gypsy jazz. Thursdays to Saturdays, there's a mix of local deejays spinning everything from classic funk, soul and disco to old skool hip hop. The rest of the time, you can expect to hear everyone from Serge Gainsbourg to Arctic Monkeys blasting out of the speakers. The only thing that stops Tabac being the perfect continental coffee shop-cum-bar, is the lack of faded movie stars smoking endless cigarettes!

The bar is filled with a range of seating and booths for a rather more intimate drink if you fancy it and the walls are adorned with a range of sports paraphernalia and plasma TVs. It advertises itself as a sports bar so any sporting event, whether it is a big boxing match or Barnet v Dagenham & Redbridge, Milly's will almost certainly be showing it. They also have live music on at weekends, with local bands and acts performing and creating a fun, lively atmosphere, helped by the range of beers and spirits they have on offer there. There is also a nice little outdoor drinking area at the front of the bar, but unless you're a smoker then I wouldn't recommend it too much as the views of the car park aren't particularly inspiring. One negative about Milly's is its position on the 'Red Lion Shopping Centre', which is actually just a grouping of shops sat next to the bypass, so its location isn't exactly in a busy area. However, this does not seem to deter the many drinkers that go there so don't let it put you off too much.
