Unexpected store while visiting downtown area. What a treat. Clean, open space, friendly staff. Selection of records is varied and well put together. Love the decor, ambiance, and the way records are stacked with plenty of room to peruse without colliding with other LP seekers. Found two records for the right price and wish I had more time as they had record players and cassette players as well. Will need one in the future. Maybe next time. Make my way up from Miami. Vinyl USED and NEW at one of the BEST stores in Michigan. 1000's of choices. Hand picked and bought for us at REO Town's Record Lounge. Owned by one of the kindest, most conscientious music fans and female store owners in Michigan. An encounter with Heather Frarey is like talking to an old freind from high school. She is personable and connects on every level. She along with her pal Bill, stocks this store with so much love and charm. But don't let it fool you. She's a rocker. A punk. An adult contemporary lover. That's the BEST kind of fan. The store grows by leaps and bounds yearly. And her VERY affordable USED selections are unmatched by other records stores. They are all in excellent condition. Nothing she wouldn't own for herself. I have bought and sold many records at the Record Lounge. Always at a fair price. Let me say that again: She BUYS used records at a great price. By the dozens or hundreds. That fact is, I could never spend ENOUGH time there on my visits. If you like them on FB you will see almost daily videos of new arrivals. They are very good at responding to their messages and will welcome you with great service. Even BETTER, she sells stereos. Not the random new stuff but has a great array of SOLID older units restored and cared for by a great friend of hers. It's more than you'd expect from an independent. But THAT is the reason why she succeeds. The store has more employees than I have met yet, but I plan for a reunion soon. So I will be in to scour the Monkees records, talk about ELO and come home with more than I went in for and THAT is the hallmark of a great business and record store. read more

I enjoy browsing through the records at this store. It's probably the best in the Lansing area (another, more well-known store has gone downhill in the passing decades). The albums are usually decently priced and the staff are knowledgable about their selection. I recently sold some albums here and I was happy with the money I was offered for them. However, I am still a little bit salty about a time they posted an album as in-stock online. I called and called to try to have them hold it, but got no answer. When I drove to the store that same day, the album was on display behind the counter, but I was told someone else had called and reserved it already. read more

I ordered a popular album from the owner of this shop. I live in Indiana and was visiting Lansing. I ordered it Sept. 21 and she assured me she would have it and send it out Sept. 25. No album arrives in Indiana so I text her a few days later. Once again she assures me it arrived one day late and she is mailing it out priority Sept. 29. Album still not here as of Oct. 2. I start texting and calling her asking for a tracking number. No response. Oct. 4 I call her, leave a msg and ask for either a tracking number or my money refunded. Miraculously I receive a text back yesterday saying she just sent the album out and she includes a pic of the receipt from the post office. Still very confused why I'm still waiting on an album I ordered Sept. 21 And got no real answers til I asked for my money back. Very disappointing and won't be using this store again. read more

The Record Lounge has 2 things that make it so nice. A great selection of hard to find and an even greater selection of "oh yeah!" records that may not be rare, but are right there in front of you. I so miss the old days of going into the local record store and looking through the bins of vinyl new and old while the latest big release is playing in the background. The 2nd thing it has going for it is...elbow room! Room to move around without running into someone else or feeling like you're breathing down someone's neck or vice versa, an extra special added plus in these days of covid 19! Stopped in at 6:15 pm. They were closed! But I knocked and Heather opened up the shop for me to check out some LPs. Yes, the prices were a bit high, but Heather came down on all the LP pricing for me. She was willing to wheel and deal a bit on the Jazz LPs so we both walked away happy :) Jazz selection is pretty good, lots of common stuff but there are some gems in there. Flexible pricing too, so it worked out well. The 1 star review is regarding Heather buying a record collection... basically has nothing to do with the store itself. So it's worth a visit if you're in the area :) read more

I really don't understand the market for vinyl records. This place was busy with customers, the staff and clientele were all too young to have CD collections, let alone remember the days of LPs. This little shop has helpful, knowledgeable staff, a good selection of local music as well as the peculiar range of music still found on this not quite deceased old audio technology. The collectible stuff is negotiable in price, you need to know what things are worth if you're going to play that game. Even though the girl working looked too young to know, she obviously did really know the value of the records, I was impressed with her negotiation savvy. They have an ancient cassette deck spherical clock radio like the one I had circa 1974, back when I would have bought it for maybe $15 and thought it was really groovy, now it's 200 times as much and the sales cashier said it was "sick," which I presumed was her way of agreeing with me. Park in the nearby human habitrail, if you remember LPs then you remember habitrails. read more

THE place to buy vinyl. Recently I stumbled across this store. My initial thought upon entry was, "Well, it's small but maybe they'll have one or two albums I need." I lost track of time, long story short, I was able to find almost everything on my "Want List" and walked out with a stack of records under each arm. The owner of the store was a pleasure to deal with, she has personally curated this amazing store/collection. She was generous with not only her time and assistance but also with (because of the size of my purchase) an unrequested but much appreciated discount, t-shirts and record tote. So, you can go to a larger store and flip endlessly through albums that are probably of no real interest to you, or you can come here and fight your own personal demons with each flip of a record, "They have THIS too! Man, I really need this one for my collection. Oh, and this one, and this one..." read more

My first visit yesterday was great. Heather the owner was behind the counter and ready to help without being pushy, she is not a "too cool for the room" record geek and it was easy to hold a fun music conversation with her. The prices were sometimes a little high but I found some super deals (I have my eye on a steal of a deal that I'm going to return and buy soon.) Heather said she "wasn't married to all the prices" and I believe you could talk down a price that you believed to be too high.... The Record Lounge is a great local record store that I plan on visiting at least once a month or even more. read more

Nice store with great staff. The store here in REO town is a bit smaller than the old one in East Lansing. One star off because it is a little small and cramped, and like many cramped stores it can be hard to browse without taking a lot out of the bins when their inventory exceeds their space. That said, kudos to ANY place still selling vinyl and fighting for real estate in a digital world. Carries all kind of LPs, and has many 45s listed online. The staff here makes the difference, worth stopping by, we now go here rather than fighting all the traffic to get to Flat, Black, and Circular. They'll special order anything you want. read more

Walked in to check out the place I've seen passing by as I drive through REO Town. I like vinyl, keeping my eye out to add to my collection, so I thought I would stop to check it out. After glancing through the "New" arrivals, I was taken aback that almost every record was $15 or more, so I switched to a second bin to find the same pricing level or higher. Wow! Interesting vibe in the store, but not spending that kind of money for records. Try out Vertigo in Grand Rapids, priced right, or your local antique malls, even better prices and selection. read more

SHADY, SHADY, SHADY...Very disappointed to have my Uncle, who isn't tech savvy at all, be swindled when he sold her his record collection, which included some rare gems (I've since found out after he told me he sold his record collection). He didn't know that he should've consulted the internet about some of his old albums, and thus sold over a hundred albums for under $50 bucks. Come to find out that a couple of the records were collectors items worth more by themselves than what he received. Also, asked the proprietor to look at his turntable to see if it needed any parts...was told that it was "junk" and that she'd salvage it for parts for my uncle...he declined...and found out from a REPUTABLE dealer that it worked just fine. read more

Decent selection with prices that are a bit higher than others. Lots of rock with a modest selection of punk and hip hop. Largely pretty common stuff, but digging can occasionally reward with some rarities. Cozy, unpretentious atmosphere, and Heather is considerably more friendly than anybody behind the counter at FBC so I don't mind chipping in a couple extra bucks for a record. My only complaint is that the hours are very loosely enforced - don't be surprised if the doors are locked early or there's a "be back soon" sign in the window. Otherwise it's a solid shop. read more

Decent place. Clean and organized. Lots of reissue vinyl and not a ton of junk so its easy to look thru. Anything good is quite over priced though. I noticed consignment stickers on some. Nothing puts a damper on a record store owners friend who thinks his albums are worth "book". In a nice area and a good effort. But the prices are at least 20% more than Detroit if not more. Turntables there too and again were priced above normal street prices. If it works than I say fabulous but it was hard for me to buy anything so I didn't. I don't know if this is a new store or not but it seemed like it. I looked at a few of the "collectable" priced records and condition did not match price. This is not a good sign for serious shopping. read more

This store gets it done on so many fronts. A great "jack of all trades" store that won't wow you with depth in any one genre, but with very strong quality in many genres, especially rock, jazz, soul, and others. New and used records are put together in each genre; in other words, it's sort of "lovingly curated." The prices are very good here, as well- lots of gems. Heather is quite lovely and helpful, and Jack is also knowledgable and very kind. A strong reccomendation for Michigan record store hounds. read more

If you need to sell records it's probably not such a good move to go to them, my wife and I went in there with about a hundred twenty records and we're offered $70 if you do the math on that that comes out to under $0.57 per record the proprietor then turned around and told me that she was planning to sell them for 10 to $15 a piece, I think the math speaks for itself. read more

I am a student at Michigan State University, and I am sure to stop in at The Record Lounge at least once a week while on campus. Heather, the owner of the shop, provides customers with a friendly, helpful atmosphere. There is a fantastic selection of classic rock and local music, along with a growing variety of funk, jazz, punk, and other genres. You can find new releases, reissues, as well as nice copies of original classics. If there's ever anything you haven't been able to find, Heather is willing to do whatever she can to find a copy for you. My favorite part about the shop is how much Heather and her staff cares about their customers, as well as the music community as a whole. They are always willing to speak about anything in person, and are regularly promoting the local music scene and posing questions about music as a whole on their Facebook page.
