Under new management but nothing has changed. Still overpricing their items they get second hand from other people.

Disc Traders has quickly become a shell of its former self. There's currently a sign on the door proudly proclaiming that it's now independently owned and operated. Sometimes they're only open a few hours a day, some days they're not open at all. "Staffing issues" with Now Hiring signs all over, but never any more employees in the store. It can take hours or days to wait to trade in anything, with "bank issues" incresingly delaying payments. Still, there are treasures to be found. I picked up a blu-ray the other day for $3.99 that sells for $40+ used online. But, the drive across town takes a chance that they may not be open. Inconsistent hours and minimal staff will end up running this place into the ground. It's a shame, because it used to be the premiere spot in Lansing to get used media. Well, upon my very first trip here I would have given 5 stars. But since my now 4th..Yes FORTH TRIP HERE, trying to sell an Apple Watch, I will never tell anyone to go here nor will i myself again. Took my Apple Watch here this past Thursday, it has a customized silver band on it, and a rhinestone/diamond bezel on it. No big deal right? Well, they bought it for 120$. And that's MORE than fair I felt. No other places will pay that much unless u sell it yourself on marketplace. Well, first off they gave me a receipt only...NO CASH. They said it was " due to bank closure", lol whatever that means. That's literally the sign they put up on their door the very next day. So, I then had to wait 3 1/2 days before they had cash in store to pay me. I called ahead and asked if they did , and they said yea! So I head there. 18 min drive there. 18 min drive back keep in mind .. so I get there. Some other guy tells me they don't want my watch with the band it has, and HAVE TO HAVE A OEM CHARGER TOO. Ooook then. Left once again without money. Come back again today, I PUT MY OEM BAND ON THE WATCH, and had the OEM CHARGER THIS TIME TOO. so no problems with anything should occur right?! WRONG AGAIN! Told me that they would be about an hour before get to my watch. Hardly anyone in the store. OOOOK THEN! I'm here again for 4th trip of 36mins round trip driving. Finally after WELL MORE THAN AN HOUR WAITING, they tell me 80$. No extra for the time and effort or dealing with THEIR issues due to their bank "closure". (which that's an absolutely ridiculous excuse ). Maybe ONE DAY, yea I know things happen in life. But almost 4 days saying no cash cuz of a bank closure? come on now. So , after being held up, told different things by different employees...4 round trips..almost 2 full hours in the store tonight... and then to LIE TO ME AND TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE SITUATION, and THE ABSOLUTE LAST MINUTE..tell me 80$?!! That's completely ba and you DONT RUN A BUSINESS LIKE THAT! Everyone of my friends always told me awesome things about this place giving more than fair prices , way more than any other place did. If I hadn't FOUND THIS APPLE WATCH LAST WEEK, and that anything in my pocket today was 100% profit, I would have had a much different dealing with the people inside here. I repair iPhones all the time and usually have 4-5 on hand at home. So I deal a lot with Apple products, but I'll NEVER EVER step foot in this store again to sell anything like an Apple Watch or phone. This is aN EXTREMELY ACCURATE AND HONEST TO THE CORE REVIEW OF MY SITUATION IM JUST NOW LEAVING THE STORE FROM..yes, again, my 4th trip here for this. They tell you one price, and last Minute try to give u ALOT less knowing the headache they have caused u already you're most likely just going to take it and get the heck outta there. And I'm pretty sure that's why they have no cash on hand for customers(not due to a bank closure which after the first day of that kinda issue any HALF DECENT OWNER would get some cash SOMEHOW or have some saved in a diff spot or SOMETHING) but thats almost guaranteed not the real reason. So, all in all, the place is VERY NICE AND CLEAN AND TIDY, the associates are nice generally and u feel like the whole situation will be great! Even if I hadn't had to come back 4 times, they literally BOUGHT MY WATXH, kept it, and gave me a voucher til they got cash. THEN TO TELL ME coming in to get my cash( oh ya, I called beforehand to ask before I drove there again if they had cash on hand, never told me they had a new issue with the watch band not wanting the aftermarket one and also coulda told me bring my oem charger before I came back). But then to change all that stuff, make me come back AGAIN, and then LAST SECOND PULL A BS MOVE, and offer me 2/3 the price. I coulda sold it for a lot more on marketplace and I planned to before they had told me 120$!! STAND BY WHAT YOU TELL YOUR CUSTOMERS - take care of the people that keep your business open and puts food in your own mouth and your families as well. Don't pull some slick move last second. IM SORRY TO WRITE SUCH A LONG REVIEW BUT I WANTED TO GIVE MY WHOLE SITUATION THE EXACT AND ACCURATE DETAILING OF IT ON HERE TO HOPEFULLY HELP SOMEONE ELSE IN TIME NOT HAVE TO GET SWINDLED BY THESE PEOPLE. I find that GameStop offer more money for my games. Plus you have to wait much longer for them to inspect whatever you're trying to sell. GameStop or eBay is a much better place to sell your items. read more

Disc traders has great games. However, I purchased a PS3 and it did not have the charging cord for the PS3 controller. It would of been nice if the cashier would told me so I could purchase one before I left the store. Come on Disc Traders! Every games console need a charging cord for their wireless controllers. I like Disc Traders for their selection and prices on used games and movies, but after a recent incident at this location I was left with a sour taste for the business. On top of movies and games they deal a bit with used electronics. I had gotten a Fitbit Flex as a gift, but I never took the time to set it up and I figured I could use the extra cash. So, on a weekend trip to the store I asked one of the employees how much I could get for it. I was told at least $30 depending on the model of Fitbit. Great! The next weekend I brought it with me to sell and was told that they don't accept Fitbits at that location. I asked why I would be quoted a price on one just a week earlier and the employee told me he didn't know. When I pointed out that they had another Fitbit in their case that they were currently selling, the employee shrugged his shoulders and told me that "sometimes the manager lets us sell other stuff." I wasn't going to get anywhere talking to the employee, so I left. I tried sending an email through their website on why they wouldn't honor a quote for an item they obviously accepted, but I never heard back through that channel either. I've still sold a few DVDs at Disc Traders since this incident, but I can't bring myself to buy there anymore. Usually I'll just browse and if I find something I like I'll find it cheaper online. read more

Staff is friendly enough and most pricing is decent, BUT charging $289.99 on a used PS4 when they are $299.99 brand new (with a game included) is outright outrageous. When I think of 2nd hand, I think of deals, but that's not a deal. read more

In the Lansing area this place is one of the few gems! We tend to purchase games and what not from here and love our experience. If you go to or sell to the competition you might want to check this place first. read more

This is my favorite place to get video games. They are much cheaper than Gamestop and they give you good money for your electronics.

Crappy service. I was looking for a specific movie for my son. I called to ask if they had it - the guy said yes, multiple copies, for $3.33. Cool. I went on my lunch break. The store is poorly organized but I found the $3.33 section of dvds which was in semi-alphabetical order. No luck. I asked at the front counter. The young woman was oblivious to the fact that several customers were waiting to be helped. When I asked about it she said she didn't know where it was in the store but that I should just check some random shelves. I looked for quite some time, couldn't find it, gave up and left. She could have helped me find it. Or when I had called earlier they could have pulled it for me. They just didn't seem interested in helping their customer. read more

These guys are total incompetent pricks. I forgot my receipt for the xbox one I had purchased there, called them and asked if they could please send it to me. The guy that answered the phone said "we don't do that here." I asked for his manager. His manager CLAIMED he found the receipt and put it in the mail. 2 weeks go by, no receipt. I call again, ask for a manager yet again, am told the receipt has been printed and he is sticking it in the mail. Another 2 weeks go by. So, 2 managers lied. The main workers are very short with customers and have an amazing amount of attitude. I called again today, explained my situation, am hung up on. I have no idea how this place stays in business. I'd rather deal with Best Buy's garbage than put up with DT. This place sucks. There are many other places that offer the same exact service... without condescending attitudes found at DT. I will never enter that store ever again and I truly recommend no one else does either. read more
