OK, I went here because my boyfriend is a guitar maniac. That being said there was a lot to see and it was worthy of exploring. It is a virtual museum of acoustical instrumentation through the ages. Downstairs is a worthy repair shop with knowledgeable experts that were evaluating and reselling instruments. Folks were coming for more than a hours drive to have their artifacts evaluated and resold. Upstairs were lots of other little cubbyholes featuring old and new instruments. And one room where my boyfriend was lost in a dark hole of guitargasms (his word) for over an hour and a half. That room featured the most elaborate and beautiful and exclusive guitars. Elderly is known as being an A+ place to purchase respected and well evaluated instruments. They arrive safely even if shipped across the country. Worthy of your investigation.

This guitar shop deserves the reputation it has. Great selection of instruments and their service department is very professional.

There are a precious few "destination" shops in the country: Gruhn's, a couple in NYC, LA and Vegas.

Love the decor, ambiance, and the way records are stacked with plenty of room to peruse without colliding with other LP seekers. Owned by one of the kindest, most conscientious music fans and female store owners in Michigan. An encounter with Heather Frarey is like talking to an old freind from high school. She is personable and connects on every level. She along with her pal Bill, stocks this store with so much love and charm. But don't let it fool you. She's a rocker. A punk. An adult contemporary lover. That's the BEST kind of fan. The store grows by leaps and bounds yearly. And her VERY affordable USED selections are unmatched by other records stores. They are all in excellent condition. Nothing she wouldn't own for herself. I have bought and sold many records at the Record Lounge. Always at a fair price. Let me say that again: She BUYS used records at a great price. By the dozens or hundreds. That fact is, I could never spend ENOUGH time there on my visits. If you like them on FB you will see almost daily videos of new arrivals. They are very good at responding to their messages and will welcome you with great service. Even BETTER, she sells stereos. Not the random new stuff but has a great array of SOLID older units restored and cared for by a great friend of hers. It's more than you'd expect from an independent. But THAT is the reason why she succeeds. The store has more employees than I have met yet, but I plan for a reunion soon. So I will be in to scour the Monkees records, talk about ELO and come home with more than I went in for and THAT is the hallmark of a great business and record store.

One of the antiques is the fellow who works here who is certainly not someone you want to depend on if you're in a hurry. He is a sweet old man who always has the time for an impromptu chat about this or that and he has a vague idea where you might find that or this in this store. It's very cramped and difficult to walk through, let alone find anything specific in, but it's so very interesting. Inventory keeps piling in, quite literally, and I don't think I've ever used, literally, so appropriately. I found some openly racist anthropology ("South American Redskins") from the early 20th century, and some truly vintage racist (and racial) legal text from a little bit earlier ("People of color property issues" and yes, that's the origin of the allegedly open minded euphemism, segregation law), sheet music from the Roaring Twenties, Shakespeare annotated meticulously two generations ago by a theater professor, a photography coffee table book from Post-War (World War II) Japan - the era when my father met my mother in rebuilt Hiroshima. There's a fascinating cramped filing cabinet full of antique postcards and while I was there a Korean War veteran and his middle aged adult daughter found a WWII era post card that had been sent to a relative (penny stamp affixed) from Europe. If you're the sort of person who thinks that rummaging through a museum warehouse or a restricted archive would be fascinating or an antique book collector (either a collector of old books, or an old collector of books) this is a must-see one hour destination.

They have a Starbucks cafe located inside the Store also which I go straight to once I'm inside which I order a iced mocha latte shake (gotta try it out)!! I usually walk around browsing there Books while sipping on my shake they do have tables an chairs if you prefer looking to order a slice of cheesecake. Being able to sit an eat in the stores cafe allows you to read a few pages outta your Book you got with you as well. The Customer Service is great here they always got folks working that know there Books they know exactly where to look for a title fast if asked which is Helpful. This B&N is as well connected to the Lansing Mall which is very convenient for shoppers an wanting to checkout another store or grab a bite to eat without having to leave an drive to another location. Like for example if its a rainy day or theres a snowstorm during the Winter you won't have to go outside nor drive to the next store. I highly recommend this Barnes & Noble Store to everyone living locally or that are just passing thru on the nearby Interstate.

Every other place that showed them in stock actually didn't have it when I called. The Music Manor checked and they did in fact have one, the only one in the lower 48. Before purchasing it I expressed my hesitation regarding shipping delays and possible damage during shipping since this was the only one and it is a gift for Christmas. I made the purchase and these guys exceeded my expectations on every level. I paid online, they shipped it UPS the following day with signature required. It arrived on my door step the day after that. It was faster than I expected and packaged with so much protection that it would have survived a war zone!
