Stop reading here if you like, the rest is a one-off and response. Let's be clear on Brian Bs review... I was sitting in the back corner of the room, the booth behind me had just vacated and the dishes had not yet been cleared. 2 women approached and I heard one wonder out loud to the other if they could sit there. I turned and let them know that the people had just left, so if they just scooted the dishes to the edge, I'm sure it was fine to sit. (and this was when I gestured in a "scoot the dishes forward" movement) At this time, a man (Brian, we now know) walked up and used the edge of his hand and smacked my arm down in a chopping motion. My partner notified the "door dude" and he immediately asked Brian to leave. Brain commented over his shoulder "oh, sorry if I offended you" to which I replied " you didn't offend me, you hit me" He then stood outside flipping off the place for a while before leaving. I appreciated the immediate action of the staff when I was intentionally hit by a man in their establishment.

The woman kept gesturing and pointing at the table, then at my wife. I read my wife instantly. She felt threatened. Confirmed later. I felt the need to protect my wife. I walked in front of crazy -gesture - pointy lady blocking her gesturing and pointing and sat down. My back was to her and I never made eye contact nor did I say a word. A few moments later the door dude came to our table and told me to leave. I asked why. He said I laid hands on the woman. I asked if he wanted to hear my side of the story. He said no. We left and we left our drinks. Weird redneck good ol boy vibes. Avoid this toxic place. Go somewhere else. So many welcoming and inclusive bars on East Colfax. Gesture lady clearly the regular as I think back. As we left, a guy at her table waved "bye bye" and laughed with gesture lady. That's all I have to say about that. The Owl Saloon....hmmmmm? True colors. Believe them. Thought you should know.

It's a dive bar. It's a comedy stage. It's a music powerhouse. What is Lion's Lair, if not iconic?!…read more If you're looking for a place that's all heart, loud and proud, it is HERE. Anybody who's come out of Colorado to become a big name has gone through those doors to play on the little stage. From local to traveling acts, from punk bands and karaoke talent to gritty stand-up and flirty burlesque, this place has it. If you're up for a night that doesn't stink of ordinary, swing through that creaky door and take in a most memorable evening. If there is a cover, it's usually nominal. Drinks are cheap, served by a great crew that's always up for a laugh and cheers. Sometimes hitting the town isn't about getting fancy but just kicking back, and this is a great place to do just that off the mainstream treads.

Great little dive bar on Colfax! Came here for the first time last night to see a DJ (or set of DJs…read moreI guess) that we like. The interior is small but I like how the bar is set up kind of in a rectangle so you're actually facing some other people (maybe awkward, but feels more communal?) They had an inexpensive menu of basic beers. They were out of the drink I wanted so the bartender made me a creation that I guess is something the doorman likes - not bad, and I think it was about $10 which is pretty decent for a mixed drink. I noticed a big red counter/clock on the wall across from us and after a few seconds we deduced it was a decibel meter. I'm curious if they have restrictions here for noise - AOK by me. The volume was generally alright (a little loud but what isn't?) and they actually had a sound guy in the corner making sure the volume and quality sounded good. Overall had a very decent Saturday night here.

He loved the Mozart, along with its bartenders and friendly crowds. Mozart's feels like home. The bartenders are friendly and quick, the owners (or one of them) are usually around to shoot the **** with, and the drinks are cheap. Their "specialty" is a pickle shot (in the giant glass jug behind the bar) and if you throw in a few beers, your tab will be $10, and that includes a nice tip. Is the bar fancy? No. But that's part of the appeal. Go in on a weeknight evening and you're bound to walk in during darts league. Don't count on getting a seat or a table if darts is happening. And these guys are good! The crowd is friendly and you can sit at the bar alone without feeling creepy. Winners all around.

The bartender that night was absolutely great. The karaoke DJ (Sexy Jesus Karaoke) was friendly and fair, keeping repeat singers in the queue while adding in new singers as they arrived. Our group had a fantastic time and got to sing several times. The crowd was eclectic, supportive, and full of good singers. The one thing none of our group appreciated was that the front windows were wide open and people smoked outside the entire night. They literally had ashtrays on the windowsill. We all reeked of smoke by the end of the night. Kind of a bummer, and something to consider if you're thinking of going here when it's warm enough to have the windows open.

I grew up in this neighborhood and Christian took the reigns and turned it into a place that you can call "my bar." This is what happens when a dive bar hooks up with a neighborhood bar and has a kid that makes it a habit of being insolent. Bonus - it's a Philly Bar. Another bonus - the merch is HILARIOUS. Third bonus - there's a neon sign telling you to not do coke in the bathroom. Fourth bonus - Karaoke Fridays. Fifth bonus: Live and loud music on the patio when the weather is nice. Seriously, I'd rather spend time in this bar than some vapid, IG worthy, over priced, douche canoe hangout in RINO with equally vapid and fake clientele. Don't come here if you want a bougey, curated experience. Come here because you want original, no frills, no holds barred fun. Yes, it's on East Colfax. Every Sunday they host a comedy show, and honestly, it's way better than you'd expect from a dive bar setup. The comedians are hilarious -- a mix of local talent and surprise drop-ins. Perfect way to end the weekend. The staff is super friendly, the drinks are cheap (plus Sunday drink specials, and I think they run deals most days), and the whole vibe is just easygoing and fun. They also have a big back patio that's awesome in warm weather -- I've seen BBQs, live music, food trucks, and even stand-up out there. It's one of those places where something cool is always happening. If you're looking for a laid-back Denver bar with personality -- and free comedy on Sundays -- this is it.
