What a great place for a road trip breakfast! We had stayed nearby and found Dreez on Yelp. Such a…read moreperfect way to start a leisurely day of travel. From the lighthearted good energy country decor with bright color mixed with softer grays, there were things like bicycle on wall greeting us with the purpose of dreez. "FOOD " with the bike wheels forming the OO's, a cute family portrait of the namesake of this cafe, Dreez and a sign promoting strawberry lemonade mimosas! Next our server gave us a warm welcome and helped make decisions that involved a food sensitivity. And I haven't even got to the yummy food yet. My husband had the smaller of the two complete American breakfasts offered and it was quite a generous portion. A highlight was the sausage patties. I chose the half and half Benedict which was perfect because I couldn't decide between the two. I selected that one while still looking at the yelp app in my hotel room and it did not disappoint! Each half was huge. And the presentation was beautiful too. Wish I'd taken a picture! A specialty of Dreez' is the chili infused hash browns. They were great and full of flavor and had a delightful mouth feel. A bit of light crispy and just enough creaminess from the cheese and cream in them for balance. Though our super sweet and friendly server did tastefully warn against having them four days in a row for comfort sake, they were not overly spicy. Great flavors! Don't hesitate to eat here when in Elko, Nevada.

I ordered their Greek Goddess omelet, which traditionally comes with sausage, but I subbed in shrimp instead and WOW this is my new favorite omelet! The combination of the feta, sundried tomatoes, and pesto delivered a lot zest and flavor in each bite. Please keep this item on the menu forever! I opted for a side of the country potatoes with my omelet, and was disappointed when they came out covered in bacon and cheese, as nowhere on the menu did it say they came with bacon and cheese. Just a small inconvenience, and it won't change the fact that this is our new go-to breakfast spot when we pass through again in the future.

It not only did it meet our expectation, it exceeded our expectations! The service was amazing, fast and very smooth! The food was served fast, hot and very appealing! The staff was very friendly and best of all the price was very cheap for the amount of food that was provided! The Star Hotel Basque Dining may be the best kept secret in Nevada, best not in Elko, the line was very consistent but the staff were seating guests dry fast and smooth! The Star Hotel Basque dining also had a bar as you walked in and they had two TV''s on with the soccer games, and the guess were having a great time! In reading reviews from others, one needs to know the style and intent of the place. People looking for sophisticated, fancy meal will be disappointed. People looking for a family style meal, with the warm and engaging people, with honest, real, good food, will be thrilled. We were there for a late lunch. Our server was extremely kind and explained the menu, process, and local favorites The Pico Punch had a touch of Vicks 44, but that's exactly what it should taste like. The quantities are huge. Cabbage soup broth was delicious. Italian bread would be better if warmed, but still good. The salad was robustly tossed and the dressing had a nice touch of garlic. The steak sandwich was tender and had an excellent marinade/flavor. Fries: very greasy and not their finest moment. We have family in Iowa and this all felt similar: Midwest friendliness, warmth, and good food. We were leaving at 445 and the line had grown to 20 for dinner! Appeared to be locals/regulars. As another noted, yes, there are brothels just down the street. Hey, it adds to the local charm!

The dough maker, whom I believe was named Aliza (apologies if I have the name wrong), was there preparing fresh dough, which was wonderful to see. I was fortunate to find a few pastries still available, including the Chile Verde and Beef with Cabbage. The Beef with Cabbage pastry was flavorful and especially enjoyable with their homemade "Hot & Spicy" sauce. While I would have preferred the pastry dough to be a bit crispier, I purchased it after hours and was still very pleased with the quality and taste. Overall, it was a delightful surprise and a very enjoyable experience. I also picked up one Chocolate Brownie with walnuts and a slice of their homemade Carrot cake. I had the carrot cake and it was outstanding! Fresh, flavorful, and loaded with carrots and walnuts, it was everything a great carrot cake should be. I've enjoyed desserts at five-star restaurants and have family members that easily ranks among the best bakers and this cake was delicious!!! Every mouthful was pure deliciousness, and my taste buds were extremely happy. I would gladly order it again!

Being able to seat yourself is nice, because then you don't have to wait on someone to seat you, and our drink order was immediately taken. After yapping for a while, we ordered two Open Faced Turkey Sandwiches w/ Mashed Potatoes & Gravy, a French Dip w/ Onion rings and a Half Rack of Ribs with Loaded Mashed Potatoes. Our food arrived relatively quickly actually, but unfortunately, it wasn't very warm. The mashed potatoes on both turkey dinners were cold, and had to be sent back to be warmed up (which I'm pretty sure they just did it in the microwave.) My mashed potatoes with my ribs were also cold, but I ate them anyways because I didn't want to have to send every plate back. I felt bad for them. The beef on the French dip looked dry and kind of old, but the onion rings were amazing. The ribs were amazing, falling off the bone tender and super flavorful. It really is unfortunate that everybody's mashed potatoes were cold. Once they were kind of heated up, everything was pretty good though. The waitresses were all super nice even after we had to send food back, so I'm glad they at least had good attitudes and weren't mean to us afterwards. One unique thing I think is really cool about this place is they have a salad bar that is included in some of the dinners! Although it was not included in my rib dinner, so I didn't go and look at it. The restaurant itself was quiet with just the faint sound of casino machines in the background, and a few rowdy guys who showed up in big trucks and were yelling at each other through the windows. All in all, it wasn't too bad and I would probably try it again, but they really do need to heat up those mashed potatoes better.

I'm out here traveling east on the 80 with my crew blasting along the freeway at 80 mph (that's the…read morespeed limit here!) and the crew is grumbling about getting some food. They didn't wanna wait till even Wendover, cause there might not be any good food way out there. OK, so, I pull into the Gold Dust West. I've stopped here before and I do like the food they have at the Grill coffee shop inside the casino. We get seated and drink orders taken. You know I do notice a sandwich on the menu I never had before. It's the Grilled Cheese Sandwich. Usually I'd think grilled cheese was a boring sandwich you order for kids or something. But I saw it had bacon and tomato in it. You do have you choice of cheese (besides American) and choice of bread. I got it on sourdough and cheddar cheese along with onion rings ($2.00 extra). I couple of my crew got the same but with fries. The other girl on the crew got the Cali Omelet. Our food arrives and I'm surprised at the heft of the grilled cheese on sourdough. I bite in and wow, this is pretty damn tasty! It's not what I expected at all, better! The other guys liked it too and said they'd get this sandwich again. OK, I was impressed with this new grilled cheese and I think they have it at all the other Gold Dust west locations in Reno and Carson City. If you get to a Gold Dust West Casino, check out this sandwich!

Once seated, our experience was a mix of highs and "almosts." - Appetizer: We started with the fried pickles -- crisp, flavorful, and addictive -- though a seasoned dipping sauce would have taken them to the next level. - Entrées: Antonio ordered the prime rib, advertised at 12 oz, but it appeared a bit smaller than expected. Portion sizes for his sides, however, were generous and satisfying. I went with the penne alla vodka but received penne with marinara instead. While the garlic bread was decent, I missed the creamy, robust vodka sauce that was promised. - Service: A little on the slow side, though staff were polite once they arrived at the table. Overall, the food was decent, but not quite on target. We're planning to give them another try for breakfast -- here's hoping that meal hits closer to the mark.
