One of the more expensive resorts in the area. They offer a spa, wellness center, and a very good restaurant. This is also considered a good place to hold your wedding and reception, although not a bargain. I ate at the restaurant when I was a concierge at a competing resort, and was very happy with my meal. The Cesar salad was made the old fashioned way, with a rub of garlic in the bowl, a smushed up anchovy and a beaten egg mixed into the dressing, all right at the table. I loved it. The service at the Lodge is perfectly professional, but not snobby. There's a hint of elitism, but it may be well deserved...this place has been well-respected in the hospitality industry for decades. The golf course is excellent, although hard to get tee times on the weekends and even during the week on busy holidays or when the car shows are in town. (They also hold their own little car event during the Concours d'Elegance, which, unfortunately, pales in comparison.) If you're looking for a getaway in the Valley, the Quail Lodge or the Carmel Valley Ranch Resort are your best bet, IMHO. read more

I spent the night at Quail Lodge a few weeks ago. I was there to photograph an event and my room was part of my compensation package. Check-in was very easy and quick. We arrived at our room and let ourselves in to a still dirty or occupied room. We quickly backed out and went back to reception. They were surprised and expressed disbelief that their system would allow them to check in new guests before the room was ready. I'm not sure what system they use but there is definitely a flaw. This is the second time this has happened to me in one week. Fortunately Quail Lodge handled this much more professionally and efficiently. They quickly selected another room assuring me this room was much nicer with a better view. Wow were they not kidding. The new room was a one story unit right on the golf course with a pond full of all manner of ducks right off the patio. The room was quite large with beautiful views to be had from either the Adirondack's on the porch or the window seat. Our room had a king bed with a pillow top mattress and amazing down comforter. The bathroom had a large walk-in shower and a soaking tub. Best of all is the rooms are all non-smoking and you can bring your pet! A complimentary continental breakfast is included with the room. This is very minimal fare so don't expect much besides cold cereal, coffee, and juices. There is however a fantastic place very close for breakfast. The property is well maintained, with tennis, swimming and of 'course', the golf course. Next to the restaurant and lounge is a deck area with relaxed seating areas to enjoy the views, company, or even cocktails at the end of your day. I've been wanting to play QUAIL LODGE for a long time and finally checked it off my list today. I booked the Stay & Play Package for $260 on a Wednesday night. It included a room and two rounds of golf. The hotel was nice. Had a great pool, three cabanas for weights, cardio and yoga, complimentary continental breakfast, and has an awesome 9 hole putting course. (Each hole was long and separate from each other. Never seen that before but was very cool!) The course was in IMMACULATE shape. The fairways are green and soft like velvet. The rough is thick and wet. And the greens were smooth and true. There were so many absolutely stunning golf holes on this course, but the 4th in particular was my favorite. The course is relatively flat - but the tree lined doglegs, multiple water hazards and well placed bunkers made it a challenge. I would play there again in a heartbeat. Maintenance makes Quail Lodge a 5 star golf course. Highly recommend! read more

I was there to celebrate certain milestone with my significant other once, a surprise trip for her. I called ahead, and asked for special favors, and they took care of it with great detail. When we showed up, service from the front porch to our suite was excellent. I travel on business all the time these days, but I can still remember the quality service I received there. What else? they have mini bar, and nook stocked with beer/food/drinks etc, all complimentary. nice flat screen TV (this was big deal back then). And a large selection of Carmel's own Clint Eastwood's movies to get you in the mood in case you needed help after all that mood settings. just a smooth experience, without that overbearing attention that you get when you check into some very expensive places. So happy I made the decision to stay here! My bf and I are from SF and wanted a mini get away so I decided on a spa day at Refuge nearby (about a 5min or less drive) and overnight stay here. Quail lodge is about a 10min drive from Carmel Village and is located in Carmel Valley. Rooms: We had a deluxe king room with a balcony overlooking the pond. Loved the layout of the room and decor. The nook area was a nice addition as well. Bathroom was spacious and so was the entire room. Definitely a plus that they had very good lighting!! Which is one of the things that can make or break a hotel room for me aside from the cleanliness most importantly. Lastly, I wanted to hang out at the balcony and drink a glass of wine (they provide wine glasses, another plus!) however there were so many bugs flying around! Mehh, this was probably the only con. Breakfast: If you're looking for a real heavy hot breakfast then you won't be satisfied here. They provide all the general items for continental breakfast: coffee, juice, bagels, cereal, oatmeal, fruits etc. Many of the items were marked "Gluten-free." First timers here and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Everyone was friendly, accommodating and efficient. Our room was right on the golf course so the view was beautiful. Golf course was superb. There's also a putting course which was so much fun and a bocce ball court. The spa and fitness center were closed of course. Sincerely enjoyed my stay here. They said they recently renovated the rooms, and it showed. We had a nice King bed room with a view of the pond and course. Clean and nicely appointed. Staff was super friendly and helpful, and the main lobby clubhouse area was beautiful. Some of the nice amenities included: Heated pool and fitness rooms, a 9 hole putting course, nice pond, patio/deck with seating by the pond. Continental breakfast was better than most, a nice selection of juices, cereals, yogurts and pasties - with a focus on organic. Would love to come back and play the course as well. Sad to say I had high expectations as I had been told This was an amazing place, thought my husband and I could finally get away for a weekend, checked with the hotel before booking to make sure everything was open including room service and the restaurants, was told yes everything is open except for the fitness center. This place is beautiful! It is just perfect for a relaxing getaway. I recently visited Quail Lodge for a work retreat and really enjoyed my stay here! Our room was a Deluxe 2 Queen Guestroom. The room came with a large LCD HDTV, WiFi, and 2 high & fluffy queen-sized beds. Quail Lodge has the kind of pillows that you completely sink into when laying down. What made it even better was the window seat and patio (with table and chairs). The bathroom was also super nice--shower and tub were separate, which I really like, and there's a phone by the toilet (in case that matters to you). The outdoor environment is great. There is a patio deck area with plenty of seating that overlooks the pond. The fitness center and pool area is awesome. Fitness was divided up into three rooms: stretch, weights, and cardio. The heated pool was a decent size and looked clean. The area is open from 6am-10pm, or something like that, but you can request to access it earlier or later if necessary. Conference rooms were nice--spacious and comfortable for a group of 20-30 people. Food was also good, especially the coookiesssss! You must try the dark chocolate cookies with white chocolate chip, if they're around. I literally ate five on my first day there. TL;DR If you're planning to visit the Monterey/Carmel area, this is a lovely place you should consider for your stay. And you have to try their cookies. read more

LESS THAN STELLAR; While the grounds, the room size and the bed were beautiful and comfortable the overall experience was less than stellar and actually quite disappointing. We thought we were coming to a magnificent resort, with those expectations it was a bit disconcerting when we pulled up and there was no one to greet us, no valet, no one to assist with luggage, in my opinion, the basics. We checked in and asked if someone could help us as we had a bit of luggage and we were directed to go outside and search for a luggage rack. After a bit of searching we located an abandon rack loaded it up and then went on the journey to seek out our room which was not just a simple feat as the signage was not placed efficiently. There is NO room service, no proper mini bar, meaning while yes their is a fridge, there is nothing in it, no drinks, no chips, no candy, NADA!! Our coffeemaker did not work, our patio was covered in foliage, the bathroom provided none of the basics that one would expect from a resort of this reported caliber. Lastly, as we sat in the dining area overlooking the pond we noticed we had a visitor dining with us, granted he was dead, but with us none the less! read more

We paid $550/night for a Deluxe King room at Quail with no fireplace. The room was very dated with functional albeit old furniture. Other than the dark furniture the room was all yellow with yellow carpet. It didn't look anything like the photos on its website or here. There was a patio with no view and filthy chairs coated in dust, leaves and pine needles. The room had a Keurig machine, TV and two bottles of water for $6 each. It was very clean other than the nightstands which hadn't been wiped down and one had sticky gunk on it. We arrived with a lot of luggage, but found out there's no valet or bellhop. We didn't have any hot water in both the morning and evening on one of our two days there. We did have luke warm water which was fine if we were camping. It kind of felt like we were. Paper thin walls, so we listened to two ladies having a conversation in the next door room until we finally put on a noisemaker on our phone around midnight. I corresponded by phone and text with the assistant manager who had solicited my comment (they send a text to all guests) and she was very kind and responsive, however, she didn't actually do anything or offer us anything other than that she was sorry to hear of our disappointment and would contact me later. They should be ashamed they'd charge a $550 rate as they did for a very plain, dated room with no amenities. I believe in free markets, supply/demand, etc, but overcharging is bad business as the exorbitant price creates a totally different expectation (eg a high end hotel or resort experience) and all but ensures they'll have disappointed guests. At that price I thought we'd get a room that looked slightly like the photos. I should add that they weren't even at full capacity. I checked online and they had plenty of rooms and suites still available in most categories while we were there. Carmel Valley Ranch also showed King studios with fireplaces for $590 (with resort fee) and I'm just kicking myself we didn't stay there again. It's a night and day difference. We were on our honeymoon, why didn't they offer to upgrade us, at least to a room that had been updated in the last 20+ years? read more

Such a wonderful stay! This is the perfect escape. Very well kept, clean, relaxing, and I would say a luxurious lodge-like experience. Staff were very astute to the changes since COVID, very friendly, always available and even provided a surprise treat for my sisters birthday. They have a personal concierge check in on you the entire stay which was so wonderful. Nice amenities, lake on the property, and we had our own villa with a private balcony (were upgraded free of charge)! A stay here is wonderfully quaint, with attentive staff. The front desk would periodically check in once a day to see if there is anything else they can do above and beyond to make our stay a good one. Loved that I could just check out via text. Only hiccup is that there was a small gap between the shower door and the threshold of the shower and I accidentally created a mini pool of water in the bathroom. Was able to easily remedy this during subsequent showers by turning the angle of the shower head away from the shower door without having to shift too uncomfortably close along the shower wall. read more

As a nod to one of my favorite movies, here is the rundown: The Good: 9 hole putting course included as part of your stay and a huge pool that is kept at a perfect temperature. Great cardio and weight rooms. Huge tub, shower, and overall massive bathroom in the rooms themselves. Spacious rooms that have high ceilings and great views of the golf course. Always able to find parking in their lot right near our rooms. The Bad: Price is way too steep for what you get (keep reading). Poor dealing of "issues" we had by the front desk receptionist. Rock hard beds in the room (could be good for people who like sleeping on concrete) that have thin sheet and comforter only, so you are either too hot or too cold. One more sheet would have been ideal. The Ugly: We booked hotel in early January for a late July wedding, partly because of their "free breakfast" that was offered. We could stomach the per room price if it included breakfast (and offer didn't say "Continental", but a "real" breakfast...or so we thought). Upon check-in we were told the breakfast was served from 6:30-11, so we thought all was good. Next morning our party of eight heads down to get our "free breakfast". Going to restaurant the breakfast buffet looked great, so we're ready to sit down and the waitress says the price is $29.99 per person for the breakfast. We said we had "free breakfast" with our room, but were told they no longer have that offer! Immediately I go to the front desk to work it out. Receptionist says they stopped that offer and I must have booked quite some time ago. I said yes, in January. She says if I can produce the reservation confirmation and it says "free breakfast" they would honor it. Back to the room we march (not a short trek) to get out paperwork. Come back and ask her why she couldn't just look the info up on her computer. Answer: since you booked it through a third party site we don't have that info.....really?! Sure enough we're given coupons for "free breakfast" for eight, so we think all is good, and we're ready to enjoy a great looking buffet.....think again! We sit down and the waiter says our offerings are for the continental breakfast (oatmeal, cereal, milk, juice, yogurt). WTF? If we want the buffet (aka a REAL breakfast) it still costs $29.99 per person. Wife asks for a menu thinking maybe they have something cheap to get.....WRONG. Prices beyond belief for what you get. We finish our oatmeal, then walk across the street for a REAL breakfast at the Wagon Wheel (see my review for this GREAT place). Didn't even bother to come back for the next morning's "free" offering! Conclusion: When someone books a room at $350 per night with "free breakfast" offered, but subsequently the hotel drops the offer, you should go above and beyond to make it right. Hell, Holiday Inn's charge a third of what this place does and serves a REAL breakfast, not just cereal and oatmeal! VERY disappointed the way the whole ordeal was handled. Would it have been that hard to give us the buffet for free (or even at a discounted price??). Owner of restaurant across the street said he hears about similar complaints all the time, but is glad because his business benefits from it! read more

We stayed here from Tuesday-Thursday and it was wonderful. The only complaints I have are that the sink water smells a little sulfuric, and our toilet had some issues flushing - I think only because it's a little bit of an older hotel. Someone did come to our room to try to fix it, but we ended up using the bathroom in the hotel lobby (very clean). The staff was very friendly. The golf course was in great condition. The bartenders were nice also, wish we could have tried some food, but we ended up at other restaurants instead. The hotel is in a great location, it's about 15 minutes from the Carmel Valley wineries and about 10 minutes from downtown Carmel-by-the Sea. read more

One of my favorite resorts ever!! We just finished such a great trip to quail lodge that we ended up extending our stay an extra night. I have been coming here for YEARS and YEARS but had never come with my kids (4 and 1) - the staff was extremely accommodating and the service was impeccable. They had the sweetest staff, especially in housekeeping, Angie took great care of us and made things so much easier (traveling with kids can be a challenge). Love that this resort caters to luxury and relaxation but also is a great place for kids. The putting green and golf course are wonderful and over all we didn't want to leave! I recently had the pleasure of staying at Quail Lodge for a business conference event. I stayed on the property several nights , dined there several times and participated in a conference on site. Although I had viewed the property video on their website, I was immediately struck by how much more beautiful the resort is than the pictures reveal. I loved the fact that although it has upscale accommodations, it was not a stuffy place. All of the folks that I encountered were very kind, accommodating and down to earth. They were uncommonly sensitive to my needs even when I did not ask for help. When I did need some assistance, they really pulled through and made things happen seamlessly. The cottage I stayed in was as luxurious as suite at a Peninsula Hotel. The cottage was well designed, well appointed and has every comfort you could possibly need or imagine in one place. Vaulted ceilings, tons of natural light without sacrificing privacy, lots of space for moving around. This cottage had more built in storage than my house. Also it had an outdoor patio overlooking a little lake with a bridge. The grounds are impeccably maintained and around every corner and in every nook and cranny there was a surprising or enchanting view, a wonderful sound or a kind person smiling to say hello. I had breakfast at in the main lodge at Covey. It was quiet and peaceful. The food and service were great. I really enjoyed the atmosphere and the stunning views throughout I had dinner at Edgar's overlooking the golf course. The food was great and the people were nice and made sure that I could get back and forth around the property without any trouble. The building which had ballrooms that we used for our conference were perfectly arranged and situated. This building also overlooked the golf course. The space was very good for the meetings, break out sessions, lunch and drinks on the patio. The restrooms were beautiful and not too far away which was a big plus. I have stayed at many upscale resorts and hotels but, have to admit, I have not stayed at one that has impressed, surprised or delighted me more than Quail Lodge. The place is priced as a 4-5 stars but it's not.The WiFi doesn't work, the outlets to charge your phone doesn't work, the air conditioning is from the 80s, the TV cable has a very poor selection of channels. The floor in the room is hardwood and always dirty. The staff acts to be friendly but they aren't really--They get your feedback and do nothing. They give you two pillows only!!! You have to ask for more lol. Besides the golf course, there is nothing to do there unless you take the 10-15 mins drive to Carmel by the sea. I mean put a little lemon water in the lobby or serve coffee in the morning, something! Gone. Reasonable rates. Gone. Reasonable "specials". Gone. No reason to go there anymore. Find another place or just go for the day from the Bay Area. Arrive at 9 leave the area after dinner. I was very disappointed. The room was dog friendly, and many guests had dogs, which was nice. The room had a very nice view of the fairway as long as you were standing. When you sat on the patio, plants covered the view, but did offer privacy. The food in the restaurant was very good, with good service. The room was over $500 per night. The room was outdated and had no WOW factor, in fact a bit frumpy. Linens were old, one comforter on bed, no extra linens, pillows that had been around the block a few years, old white gym towels. Just concluded a three day stay at Quail Lodge for my wedding. Did not have the wedding at the location, however much of our pre-wedding preparation and wedding party coordination happened here. We were looking for a tranquil, resort style accommodation, with large spacious room and good privacy. Quail Lodge delivered on all counts. Our room-suite exceeded expectations with convenient location close (drive) to town, beach or valley. Rooms are huge and modern. Bed and pillows were very comfortable. Bathroom is large with all the modern amenities you would expect at a resort. Grounds are very well kept, scenic and open. Bocce ball courts, pool and fitness areas are very decent and inviting. Staff was warm, professional and responsive to a variety of random requests we had made relative to room needs and housekeeping. Restaurants and bar on location are good. If there was one or two areas I would call out as less than ideal would be evening food/bar service hours (5-10pm) and no room service (food delivery). Since we were on the go most of our stay this really wasn't an issue for us. The other would be parking. Parking lot appears big enough, though the spaces can fill up fast particularly in the evening. We found parking spaces, but not always near our room. Just recently returned from a 9 day stay at Quail Lodge. We stayed in a Premier King Suite with private patio and great views of the 14th hole on the golf course. The staff was highly accommodating and professional from check in to check out. We opted to not have any housekeeping during our stay but getting extra linens or amenities was no issue. We just had to ask and they were promptly delivered. I celebrated my birthday while we were there and they brought a lovely bottle of champagne and cake. We had issue with our reservation before checking in and Takeshi the Assistant Operations Manager helped us resolve with excellent follow up throughout the process. The General Manager Kwai followed up with us as well and after getting home yesterday we had another call from the property's management to ask for our feedback on our stay. Just had three meals at Edgar's at the Quail Lodge & Golf Course. The food was great and Jeff and his staff (Jessica, Arnel, Christian, et al.) provided us with some of the most accommodating and gracious service we have ever experienced. I've stayed mostly at Carmel Valley Ranch, for two decades now, without disappointment. Quail isn't that much cheaper but lacks the touches of a really nice place. We asked for a view if possible. We would have been find if the woman at the front desk had simply said, "Sorry, we are out!" No problem, we booked on the later side. Unfortunately, she circled the area in front of our suite and said, "Oh, here you have a nice view!" It wasn't close to the lake so I definitely wondered what "view" to which she was referring, but I just went with it and didn't question her. Sure enough, we get to our room and there is nothing there. Wait, no, there is a tree. We were stunned (our friends stayed next door) at how lacking this was. Again, would have been fine without a view if our expectations were managed, but it was talked up and thus, a huge letdown. On top of that, the interior leaves plenty to be desired. No cool touches. No mini bar. There were bottles of water for $6 or $8 each. Great, thanks. BTW, the free brunch is okay. It offers hard-boiled eggs instead of scrambled eggs or any other form. There are bagels, toast... and a couple bowls of fruit. Grounds are very lovely. Check-in a bit confusing. No help with luggage or locating your room. Expensive property but no amenities (except for in room Keurig). At this price point one should not have to call the desk for a shower cap. Bottled water at $6 in the room. Nothing special. read more

For a tranquil getaway just a couple of hours south, this is a choice place. Prepare to abandon your need to shop, catch the latest movie, etc... It's quiet time. The grounds are very very green and are made for leisurely walks. Aside from their annual automobile event, you're here to soak in spa, off-road in a Land Rover, or play golf. That's pretty much it. If you think most of your time will be spent at the spa or pool, I would recommend getting one of these rooms 141-146. Each sits above the spa area and have balconies that overlook the pool. Room 141 was spacious, with high rafter ceilings, and lots of natural light. A king size bed with a billowy comforter and soft duvet completed the room. There's a good flat screen TV so you don't miss any of your true Hollywood stories - and, well-appointed bathrooms and amenities. Etro shower caps - no joke - can be found in the spa's ladies locker room. Okay, so they're just clear plastic decorated with fun raindrops, but they come in these stylized little cube boxes - a treat in and of itself. Ladies will love the Eucalyptus steam room, located in the ladies locker room. For all you car aficionados, you probably already know about this place as they host one of the most spectacular car gatherings, The Quail Motorsports Gathering (a.k.a. Monterey Historics). It's like wall-to-wall vintage cars here (my husband loves it). You'll find all the beauties from Porsche to Aston Martin (like a '61 DB4GT Zagato - a favorite) to Ferrari. If we had to rate our experience at quail for our wedding, the scales would not go high enough. Everything about the property, staff, accommodation, culinary experience and hospitality was out-of-this-world amazing. The bridal party stayed at Quail for almost a week during the wedding festivities. Every need was accommodated and the rooms were beautiful and well taken care of. The grounds are immaculate. About 80% of our guests stayed at the lodge and a VERY affordable room rate was offered to us. AND they are dog friendly!!! A group of the boys played golf on the rehearsal day. The golf shop staff was incredibly courteous and the course was in pristine condition. Kudos to the superintendent and assistant superintendent. Gorgeous greens and can't wait to play again. On the day of the wedding, everything was taken care of. No hiccups or any issues. Audrey, Rosie, chef Alex and the entire staff was amazing. The attention to detail was incredible. The ceremony site, Quail Meadows was as beautiful as a photo from a we,dding magazine. Talk about an amazing place for photos. Our photography is perfect. The reception in the ballroom was open and airy. The food was absolutely off the charts delicious. Nothing like the typical "banquet food". We chose a custom menu and it exceeded our expectations. A few of our guests had dietary restrictions and the chefs prepared a special menu just or them. Everything about the experience was very much a fairy tail. You can tell that the staff is very organized and has so much pride in their property. We would recommend Quail to anyone. Thanks for making our day a dream come true! read more

Carmel by The Sea is so crowded and parking is always an issue so we picked this place in Carmel Valley. Another advantage is the weather is warmer here just 10 minutes away. Grounds were kept up nicely. We got an free upgraded room where we could see golfers playing through from our patio. Bathroom was HUGE with separate shower and tub. Pool was open but fitness center closed due to Covid. Ate at Edgars restaurant for breakfast which was good but menu was a bit limited. Service was friendly and attentive. read more
