For the price point in this area, Carmel Mission Inn is decent. But considering the price overall, the experience was still pretty underwhelming. Everything in Carmel is expensive, including lodging. This is one of the more affordable options for anyone looking to stay. This place also drew me in being that it's also very dog friendly ($100 fee per pet per stay). Also nice amenities - pool, spa, gym. The location of the hotel is good, right off the 1 Highway, just a few steps away from a gas station. There are some restaurants in the neighboring plaza (the hotel has their own restaurant as well, Sheerwater Tavern). And there is a plaza across the street that will have basically everything you need - grocery store, CVS, etc. Front desk service is mediocre at best. Staff are not very welcoming, but they're nice and get the job done. My hotel room was on the first floor and faced the parking lot. The good thing was being able to park right in front of our room (first come, first serve). Negative side was not enough natural lighting and hearing the sound of cars directly in the parking lot. The walls are very THIN. You can hear people's conversations in the next room over, and even worse, I was woken up in the middle of the night to a baby crying incessantly. I was slowly slipping into madness debating whether or not I should bang on their wall. Thankfully, the heater in the room was loud enough to muffle the sounds and helped me finally go back to sleep. The interior itself is decent, with nice modern decor. Cleaning could be better, as there was visible dust in certain areas. I like that the water is generously hot, however the shower water pressure is very weak. Overall, I felt pretty indifferent about my experience here. I've stayed at many other places where the experience was much more memorable. If I ever found myself back in Carmel, not sure if I'd stay here again. read more

Did not have a good experience at this hotel for the price. The hotel is very noisy with water pipes making large crash noises all night. The pool and hot tube has way too much chlorine and we couldn't swim. The beds are as hard as a piece of wood. Lastly, hotel is not generous with offering complimentary coffee or water. Especially when they charge so much to park the hotel chain should offer coffee and a free water upon arrival. They do have coffee machine in the room with no cream or sugar. read more

I booked a Classic King for 1 midweek night for my husband and myself. I was pleasantly surprised by the wide array of amenities Carmel Mission Inn offered (both included and for an extra fee) as well as the close proximity to restaurants, groceries, gas, and, of course, the "start" of Highway 1 along Big Sur. Check-in was a breeze--just look for the beautiful flower cow at the entrance! Self parking was $25 but we found a decent spot somewhat close to our building and room. The room was visibly clean and smelled fresh. The desk and laptop tray were perfect for me to hop online and take care of some unexpected work tasks. WiFi access was easy and had a good connection. I was grateful for the empty mini fridge which we used to store some perishables from the cooler overnight. The layout was functional and comfortable. The toiletries smelled great! Plus, the robe was a fun "luxury" for the quick overnight stay. I enjoyed sitting on the expansive front patio with a glass of wine during the evening. I ate dinner at the restaurant and was easily able to charge it to the room. The convenience counter had a mix of useful and fun snacks and supplies. Everything from the room to the common areas felt fresh, modern, and thoughtful without feeling cheap or too trendy. I wish I had more than 1 night at Carmel Mission Inn, because I would have loved to enjoy the roof top patio, pool, and other amenities. Stayed four nights and it was okay! I was a bit blind sighted by the $30 parking fee + $10 additional facility (both per day). The front desk did not mention this upon check in, so I had to go back and confirm the next day but the gentleman at the front was kind and helped me coordinate. Our room was clean and had minimal noise transfer. I think it's because we had quiet neighbors. I did hear a few distant dogs barking through the night. The location was great for us, just a 5 minute drive from Point Lobos and a 5 minute drive from downtown. Would I stay here again? Probably not because after all the fees they stack on, it's better to stay at a more elevated hotel. read more

First night, as a single mom I was placed in an outward facing room. I reached out to the front desk and they placed me into a in building room, which was fine but was missing slippers and some items. I asked housekeeping, they were rude and told me to reach out to the front desk. They provided the slippers, the first night it was noisy and then settled down, the second night we didn't sleep at all. Dogs barking, tv was loud, people banging in and out of their rooms. When I checked out I let your front desk know and he didn't really care. There was a lady with short hair at the front desk and she was incredibly rude too. Overall: 4.5 stars I am surprised by the mixed reviews on Yelp for Carmel Mission Inn. Carmel is one of the most upscale little coastal towns in California, but it is also very small and boutique-y. You see that when you're in the downtown village. Everything is adorable and small, like your landed inside a page of Snow White! What I loved about being at Carmel Mission Inn is that it was a few minutes away from the village, so we weren't near the hustle and bustle of the tourists and impossible parking. The customer service here is impeccable, like you are at a friend's house. And the cute eclectic decorations everywhere was so fun to look at. We enjoyed the pool, hot tub, and fire pit. The morning coffee from the old school ice cream cart was so fun. We definitely plan on returning. The only reason for knocking off half a star was for the thin walls in the bathroom. We could even hear the neighbors rattling their toilet flush handle! For such a nice hotel, I expected a few things would be included, like water (but the water bottles had a hefty price tag) and self parking ($30). Usually you spend extra to be at a nice hotel so you don't have to worry about being 'nickled and dimed', so that was a bit of a surprise. This didn't take away from all the positives at Carmel Mission Inn however. The greatest thing about our experience was everyone we met -- from people who worked here to people staying here -- all were happy. That speaks volumes. read more

This place is SO lovely! It feels high-end in the common areas - beautiful firepits, nice pool area, great lounge. Close to shopping and lots of restaurants, PCH right there, beautiful marine preserves within a bike ride or walking distance. There are definitely upcharges for most things, including parking, but on their site you can find some good combo deals. I stayed with my young baby, and they were kind enough to put us in the corner room so we wouldn't be disturbing people/being disturbed. I also left an item in my room, and they were able to find it super fast and they have a nice easy process to get it shipped back to me (at a minimum of $30). I'd definitely stay here again. The only improvement I"d suggest is curtains that fully black out - the ones they have still leave lights from the parking lot coming in, and it's lit 24/7. read more

We stayed here in August and had and amazing stay. The room is nicely remodeled and spacious and parking is easy to find but they do charge parking fee per night. The hotel is not in the more busy area in Carmel but very close by driving. There are some stores and restaurants closed by the hotel. And there are an on site restaurant at the hotel. We ate there one night and the service and food were amazing! They also had some fun events at the hotel. We went to a dog event and a wine tasting ones. The pool and hot tub are nice when you want to have a relaxing time since Carmel is a very slow town and not much to do. read more

I had a mixed experience at this hotel. The hotel itself was beautiful, and I really enjoyed my stay. In fact, I chose this place to celebrate my birthday, which made it even more special. However, I had an issue at checkout that left a very negative impression. I made a reservation through Booking for $253 (including taxes and fees), but I was charged $287. This difference was not clearly explained. When I tried to politely ask about the difference in payment, I was met with an unprofessional response. The receptionist appeared visibly irritated, raised her eyes in frustration, and was very dismissive. At one point, she even interrupted me and told me to "stop" and not continue speaking, even though I was calmly and kindly trying to understand the charge difference. I was speaking in a very polite and friendly manner, simply trying to clarify the situation, but I was not given the chance to explain myself properly. It was especially disappointing to experience this at the end of an otherwise great stay, and on my birthday. I hope the hotel can improve customer service at the front desk and ensure billing is handled more transparently and respectfully. read more

I had arrived a bit earlier than my friend who booked the room, and Mary assured me that since my pal called to put my name down, she would get me checked in & set up, so I didn't have any lag time. She clearly was busy as the phones rang & rang yet was able to balance a friendly interaction, calm demeanor and juggle everything with such grace. She showed interest in our time in Carmel during run ins throughout our stay, and just overall set a wonderful tone the entire time. We had a lovely stay at the Carmel Mission Inn with our dog in early May! We booked a dog friendly room on the first floor, close to the pool area. The room was nice and spacious, with comfortable beds and even a cushioned window seat for our pup to sit and people watch from. They even gave us a bag of dog treats at check-in. I enjoyed relaxing in the pool area. The gym is small, but luckily no one else was using it the two nights I was there. We didn't get to try the restaurant since it doesn't allow dogs, but we loved that you could walk from this property to the Barnyard, where we had dinner and morning coffee two days in a row with our pup! Very convenient. I also liked this location as it wasnt directly downtown in Carmel-by-the-Sea, but a very short drive from it. There was plenty of parking at the Inn, though the nightly $30 charge for it is a bit much. The $100 pet fee is steep as well. My only complaint with the room is that you can hear people outside and in the room next to you, and they really need to add fans to the bathrooms. read more

The young man who "assisted" me was unwelcoming. It was unclear whether he simply didn't want to be there or felt he was above assisting certain guests. Took a little road trip weekend to Monterey, but we anticipated to arrive earlier than check in (4pm). I messaged host on Airbnb to inquire if there's any flexibility to check in early, they directed me to call the hotel (so host weren't helpful there). Called the hotel and was informed by front desk no further information can be provided unless I arrived to the hotel and attempt to check in. Ultimately decided to just wait for the check in time. Room was good. Bath tub and shower head can use a DEEP clean or upgrade--no ventilation in bathroom. Sheets and pillow case had noticeable stains. Noticed it the first night, requested for sheet/pillow case change. 2nd night, inspected the sheets and noticed other stains. It was late around 9/10pm so there were no assistance re housekeeping. Mentioned it to the front desk and she comped $80, which I guess was better than nothing. Convenient location, but overall, wouldn't return. Advertised as luxury hotel, but doesn't give off that. read more

Stayed here for a wedding. The room was okay. Nothing extravagant. It was clean no bed bugs which I'd great. However, for the price it wasn't worth it in my opinion. The water pressure in the shower was a joke. I literally ended up filling up my Stanley cup with water and dumping it on my head so i could rinse out the soap in my hair. The walls are very thin and you can hear the doors slamming from the other end of the hall. Also they have a really bright light in the back parking lot that somehow shines through the tiny cracks in the window curtain that may wake you. Otherwise, lobby was nice the bar/restaurant was decent they give you a free appetizer with a purchase during happy hour. read more

My wife and I stayed here back in May for our babymoon. I think we may have been influenced from social media and tiktok that this place would be exceptional. But for a $300+ per night price tag, I don't think Carmel Mission Inn qualifies as a true boutique hotel. To the naked eye, it seems like an old hotel that was somewhat recently renovated. There are some nice amenities like a great pool, hot tub, room updates, and a courtyard with fire pits (where I spent a fair amount of time and probably my favorite amenity!) I opted for one of the rooms with a patio that had quick access to the pool. Though we didn't receive a ton of consistent sunshine in May, it was a nice thought being in close proximity to the pool. But the patio furniture wasn't wiped down at all, and since there wasn't much sunshine, we never sat out there during our stay. The rooms are relatively spacious, lots of charging ports, comfortable pillows, and large couch. Again, nothing was flat out terrible, but I've stayed at hotels for half the sticker price with rooms and amenities just as nice. The worst thing for me was the gym, which is clearly an afterthought. It's so small that having 5 people in there made it feel like I was attending Coachella. A few treadmills, bikes, and free weights with barely enough room to move around comfortably or throw a yoga mat on the ground. Perks of the location, though not being in Carmel-By-The-Sea, was that there was a shopping center within walking distance with some good restaurants and boutiques. So if you felt compelled to stay in this part of town, you have a good amount of options nearby which is always a plus! Didn't love it, didn't hate it. Social media influencers definitely hyped up our expectations and we didn't receive the glamorous experience of what a typical boutique hotel has to offer. read more

Carmel Mission Inn is an older hotel that's undergone a modern midcentury remodel to bring it up to today's standards just a quick drive from downtown Carmel. This is a nice spot for a family vacation complete with pool, perfect for young kids and parents. We saw many families in the pool & kids with floaties. The pool is small and adorable, but also quite noisy, and certainly offputting if you come here on a girls trip or couples get away. You can't beat the proximity to Carmel by the Sea at this price point for the amenities but keep in mind this is an older hotel that has been remodeled, not a luxury boutique hotel. The outdoor area has been upleveled with contemporary decor and outdoor couches and firepits. The rooms have been superficially upgraded and include white linens, robes, nicer toiletries, and individual room thermostats (Note: thermostats are trained to an older wall air conditioning unit.) On the negative side, beware of added charges. Also, there was a strange sewer smell coming from our shower, in our reconditioned bathroom. It appeared internal to their plumbing system and seemed to waft during showing. (You may want to bring room freshener or a candle.) read more

The Carmel Mission Inn is one of that loveliest hotels in Carmel. We recently had a power outage in Carmel which lasted days. By the third day, I had had enough and needed a great place to stay. I called the hotel directly and asked if I could have a one night stay because of the outage. Mary, the manager at the front desk went out of her way to find me a room, even though it was a holiday weekend. I can't begin to thank her and the hotel enough. This whole hotel is very lucky to have somebody as incredible as Mary. They also have a wonderful restaurant Shearwater Tavern, which I eat at frequently. The food is amazing. I'm in the process of selling my house if I can't find another to buy right away , I plan on moving into the hotel for a couple of months. read more

The main issue with this Inn is the front desk staff; I have yet to speak to a person at the front desk who is not acting as if though they're doing you a favor, and appear to be too busy to focus. There has never been a warm smile nor a kind gesture... it's quite off-putting and uncomfortable. Additionally the bathrooms and bedrooms need major overhaul and attention, they're very dated. The showers seem difficult to maintain clean as they're usually full of hair and soap scum. On the other hand, the restaurant staff and food are truly great. read more

Just got back from a stay at the Carmel Mission Inn and overall, I was impressed. The room was beautiful--very clean, stylish, and clearly well cared-for. I loved the aesthetic; it had a cozy, modern vibe that made it easy to relax and unwind. The bed was super comfy too. The one downside? The walls are really thin. I could hear just about everything happening in the hallway and even some outside noise. If you're a light sleeper, it might be worth bringing earplugs or a white noise machine. I know this is a friendly hotel, but since the walls are thin, you can hear all the dogs barking even throughout the night. We have been going to the Carmel Mission Inn for years. Our most recent visit in January was not the best. We were put in a room down by the pool. Despite nobody being in the pool area they played loud weird music until 10each night. The room was decent, but the staff just seemed bothered that the guests were there. Also, despite their claim of free parking, they charge $30 a night to self park in their bumpy parking lot riddled with tree roots. Weird way to eek out more money, along with a "resort fee" even though few use the pool. It used to be a great hotel, but meh, I'll try someplace new next trip. read more

For a dog-friendly hotel this place doesn't feel so dog-friendly or so welcoming of your furry best friend. Which is odd to me being in Carmel where everyone usually loves dogs. This is the most dog friendly town I know. This is actually our second time staying at this hotel. We stayed here last year for my sisters wedding that was in Carmel. During that time, they did not have a dog friendly room available, but they were able to accommodate us still. I thought that was very kind of the hotel. Since it wasn't a dog friendly room, I wasn't expecting much. So this time around, we were actually able to book a dog friendly room. As you can see, other than the floors being hardwood, there is no difference. I wish they had a few more dog amenities especially for the price you are paying to stay here. Something that makes you feel like your dog is more welcomed. All that was included is that hard mat rug that you see. I was a bit confused if it was a welcome mat for our shoes to clean off when we came in, or was it meant for our dogs to lay on while they stayed. But there is a sign on it, that says place your paws here. I guess it can be interpreted in different ways. But that's gross, my dog is not laying on that hard flat rug. He would actually be more comfortable just on the actual floor. But as you can see in my pictures, he preferred the bed ;). Aside from this, after speaking with the manager, I got the impression that they get more dogs than they desire. Overall, I think the hotel is OK. But if I'm paying extra for a dog friendly hotel, I would like it to be actually dog friendly. Next time I will be looking for another place. read more

Stayed here the night before my son's wedding. On the morning of the wedding, I was drying my hair in preparation for my appointment with the professional hair/makeup artist. The contract was very specific- we had to have our hair clean and completely dry. While drying my hair, the power to the outlets in the bathroom suddenly went out. I tried resetting them with no luck, so I went to my mom's adjoining room to try her outlets. Unfortunately, her outlets had also gone out while she was drying her hair. My hair gets really frizzy when dried naturally, which normally isn't a big deal, but it is a huge deal on the day of my son's wedding. We immediately called the front desk, who told us that they would send maintenance up immediately. Maintenance didn't show up for over 30 min, by which time I had already left for my appointment. When maintenance finally showed up, they told my son they'd be right back, but they never returned, and we never heard back from anyone. There's live music that plays very loudly at night, and you can hear running water from anyone taking a shower in any room around/above you. Speaking of the showers, they're really horrible. You get a very small cone of water that comes from a fixture that looks like a waterfall shower, but don't be fooled! I paid a lot of money to stay at this hotel, and I should have been able to get ready for the wedding without the inability to do my hair. If there's an issue, deal with it immediately and provide follow-up. Don't just ignore your customers. And for the money you charge, the rooms deserve to have a real waterfall showerhead! I'm giving 1 star for Mary at the front desk. She is great-very personable and great to work with! read more
