Amazingly clean hotel in the heart of Carmel literally steps from the best restaurants and art galleries. The rooms are clean and extremely immaculate. I love the fireplace in my room that turns on with a flick of a switch. The continental breakfast was good but the eggs look like it came out of a box. The fresh bananas and the yogurt were spot on. I recommend sitting outside the breakfast area to enjoy the Carmel morning. Really crisp and inviting. read more

Cons: - Room service is non existent unless you ask. -Although they do have a continental breakfast, it's super basic. I only had it one morning and still ended up going out for breakfast at a nearby spot. - If you leave and come back late, you may have to park on the street because parking spots on the property are limited. - No AC. I stayed here with my nephew over 3 days in June. M-W. I prepaid for a 2 queen bed room. We were given room 101 to start. It had 1 very small window next to the reception. I asked for a different room. They said I could see 303, it is a handicapped accessible room and I said no problem. It was on the 3rd floor near the breakfast and I thought my nephew might like it better. Both rooms had a very strong chemical smell. If you are at all sensitive, this is a factor. I went down and asked if we could cancel and I was going to try and find a different place to stay. But he said since I prepaid and it was too late, they would charge me whether I stayed or not. So we stayed. FYI, standard and double queen rooms have no view at the Bayview Inn. He did offer an upgrade for $100 more a night (my room is already $271 a night) to a view room, but it would be a king. I asked if it would still have the smell and he said they all smell the same and there's nothing he can do about that so I stayed in the double queen The first thing that happened is my nephew yelled for help in the bathroom and I ran in and there was a spider the size of a silver dollar in the bathroom. He said it fell on him and he knocked it over to the wall where I saw it. I killed it with my shoe. We were very cold at night. They could use some blankets in the room. My mattress had a very big depression from usage. Pillows were okay. The last morning, my nephew was sitting at the table and said, hey, there are more spiders! I looked over and saw 2. Then I saw why. There is massive daylight coming from under the door. I would say at least 3/4 - 1". Breakfast was bare bones basic. He TV has a basic remote I could not take the very large closed captioning off with, even though the tv looks newer. No, I would not recommend this hotel. read more

Nice little hotel in the middle of Carmel. Centrally located, decent enough space, fridge in room, clean, free parking and breakfast. Check in and check out were very smooth. It easy to walk to restaurants and bars. Short drive to beach. I did take off two stars because housekeeping opened my door TWICE 1.5 hours before my check out. Like why in the world would they unlock and open the door before check out time? I sleep in the nude, had I not put the additional flip lock up, they would've gotten a free show. Not to mention totally interrupted my sleep cycle. I would recommend the hotel if you are on a budget but definitely use the "Do Not Disturb" sign. read more

We had a wonderful stay for one night. There was a balcony fireplace free parking free wifi and free breakfast all for under $300! My only complaint was it was pretty cold at night and even with the fireplace and heater on we should've had more blankets. The front desk staff were super polite and helpful. We booked through Hotwire selecting the need for wheelchair access. I'm recovering from multiple surgeries but am finally able to travel, walk a little and transfer effortlessly. After filtering accessible needs we used their Hotrate feature which is where you don't know the hotel until a hotel has accepted the price and star level you chose. We were awarded a room in a hotel in Marina. When I called reservations told us rooms were NOT handicapped accessible. I was panicked and upset because the card was charged and room non refundable. I called Hotwire Customer Service and had a guy named Tom from a South American country but had no language barrier. He understood my panic and put me on hold to see why the hotel accepted us while knowing I can't do steps. He worked his magic, apologized for the hotel not abiding by such a huge deal as not being able to even get in the hotel. With me online we went through Hotrate and were given Carmel Bay View Inn in the central area of Carmel. Hotwire absorbed the price difference due to the error. Our room was lovely! It was basic but had everything. We had a fireplace which we used because mornings and nights were damp and cold. The bathroom was magnificent to a handicapped person with a roll in shower and cushioned seat. The hotel provided free internet, free breakfast and free parking. The bed was clean and comfortable. The breakfast was a nice way to start the day and move on. Juice, coffee, yogurt, fruit, cereal, bread, muffins etc along with scrambled eggs and either sausage or bacon. A lot of golfers stay here because it's very close to Pebble Beach. There was NO noise at night and at breakfast we could see other guests were classy and respectful.. There's a fantastic restaurant right across street called Vesuvios. It was so good we decided we'd go the 2nd night too but ultimately decided to give Flahertys a chance and so glad we did. My Lobster Roll came with Cole Slaw. Cesar Salad and fries! All 4 were great with the Lobster so plentiful it was bursting out of the toasted roll! The trip with sightseeing, food and a very comfortable hotel made our trip outstanding. I would highly recommend this hotel for the above reasons and that you are in the middle of galleries, my restaurants were walking distance and the Ocean is very close! read more

The breakfast is extremely mediocre with very few options, and the room was tiny, with no sound insulation, and we hardly slept due to the motion transfer of the low quality bed. It was also very cold in the room despite us putting the heater at maximum the whole night. The only thing going for the hotel is the location, but I think there are better options. Any Holiday Inn or Best Western would provide better accommodations, aside from the location. read more

We arrived as a family of six (two adults and four children) for a one-night stay at the hotel, with a reservation made 2 month in advance directly by phone with a hotel representative, clearly stating the number of guests. To our surprise, we were given a room that could only accommodate four people. The front desk clerk, Luis, admitted that the mistake was on the hotel's side, but the only solution he offered was that we leave without being charged. When I explained that this was not a reasonable option--since it would be very difficult to find alternative accommodation for six people in the evening--he threatened to call the police if we didn't leave immediately. His reaction was sudden, aggressive, and completely unprovoked. We spoke calmly and respectfully, yet we were met with dismissive, cold, and humiliating treatment. We were forced to leave and find another hotel at the last minute. This was a deeply upsetting, demeaning, and inhumane experience. We contacted the hotel's customer service after the incident, but to this day, we have not received any response or acknowledgment. read more

My husband and I wanted a quick getaway that was close to home. We considered Monterey, but thought it would be fun to stay in Carmel instead. Neither of us had stayed in Carmel before so we were at a loss for where to stay. Yelp to the rescue! Carmel Bay View Inn had an average of 4 star reviews which put it on our list. Even though we only wanted to stay one night, we were not interested in 1 or 2 star establishments, thank you. The location, ratings, and price sold us. Reservations were made and we were ready to go. We arrived at the inn and were greeted by a very friendly front desk clerk. We werevery pleased to find our room was ready. Upon entering our room we could tell the inn was an older building, however the rooms were recently updated and very clean which was nice to see. The bed was very comfortable which makes for a very nice stay. We loved how close the inn was to all of the wonderful shops in Carmel. It was so nice to park our car and just walk to lunch, shopping, and dinner. We would definitely recommend staying at the Carmel Bay View Inn. Enjoy! read more

Back again but decided to splurge on a king fireplace suite with ocean view, it was absolutely worth it albeit on a favorable weekday rate. The adjustable gas fireplace as usual was our main draw esp on chilly winter nights. The bathroom was twice the size of our previous king ocean view room. The shower was also larger & nicer, his & her sinks provided plenty of space for couples. The balcony was twice as long with a partial but still stunning view of the ocean to the west, with 4 deck chairs & a table to boot. Bedroom is separated from the living room, each with its own TV. The king bed was comfy with large plush pillows. Living room has a L section fabric sofa that can be transformed into a sofa bed. You can access the balcony from either the bedroom or the living room. Blackout curtains (double layered) worked well. All the ocean view king rooms are on the top floor (5th, 506), the only noise from above will be the occasional social calls of the seagull on the roof. There is a mini fridge & a Keurig coffee maker, but no microwave nor a safe for valuables. Parking was adequate albeit with tight spaces. Saw 2 cars taken up one & a half spots so please don't be 1 of them. There is a small elevator if u are unable to drag your dunnage up the stairs. During our stay there was some kind of constructions going on next door, so the back road leading to this upper parking lot was double parked with trucks during the day. In the morning starting about 8 am we can hear the service maid's cart rumbling across the hallway back and forth, as if they were trying to wake up the guests on purpose, haha. Overall our room might not be opulent but it radiated warmth, comfort & practicality. This remains one of our fav place to stay in the area. read more

Location is very good, Close walk to downtown and Convenient Parking. The room and overall hotel is old. Rooms are updated somewhat and bathroom is nice. Wall are super thin, and loud creaking of people around you. Everything the neighbors say like they are in your room and you can hear their TV. The Elevator is slow to bring you to the floor to get breakfast and it's the only way to get up there with no stairs. Some of the above is outside Mgmt control. BUT , Worst was Housekeeping knocks on all the doors Sunday morning 9:15 am with a coin. Not sure purpose (Everyone in the hotel order a housekeeping wake up call ?),,other than the purpose to boot everyone out 2 hrs before check out. Beautiful hotel which is quite central to downtown Carmel. It is about a 15 min walk to the beach however which isn't bad but may be harder for older people. Pros: - Very reasonably priced - Nice rooms with a fireplace which I loved - Central location to downtown - Free and plenty of parking - Free breakfast which is COVID safe grab bags to go. - Pool is super nice. Cons: - Hotel is a bit old. Rooms are updated but you can still hear the creaking of people above you. I would literally hear the neighbors sneezing and their TV on as if they were in the room with me. - Elevator is a bit slow to bring you to the top floor to get breakfast and it's the only way to get up there with no stairs. Overall, the staff was super nice and the room cost per valve was excellent. I liked that they offered free breakfast which was a banana and a croissant. Well i think most of the hotels here in Carmel are a bit pricey but this hotel does something that all the others have stopped doing, providing a breakfast! They bring everyone a picnic basket to their door full of goodies. We were very surprised that was really nice of these people to do for all the guests considering it must be allot of work putting all these baskets together and then delivering them. Our room was decent it needs a little work like the carpet is old and is a bit musty and the bathroom sink was clogged but all in all we had a good nights sleep and a nice breakfast. I had a terrible experience here. I booked through Wells Fargo and never got a confirmation email or any correspondence. I showed up and they told me I booked for the night before. I asked if they could do anything for me and they wouldn't. I called Wells Fargo and all they could do was ask the hotel for a refund or to rebook me for the correct night, which they refused to do. At the very least, they should have called me the night before when I was a "no show." The guy at the front desk told me I could book another room for $260. I refused and went to Carmel Resort Inn which was a blessing in disguise. The rooms there are huge! It's like staying in your own private cabin with your own driveway, free parking, outdoor fire pit, indoor fireplace, microwave and fridge. Location, location. This Inn is right off of ocean avenue. By foot, you are 5 minutes to the best restaurants and 16 minutes to the beach. Parking IS included and there are covered and non-covered spots. This alone garners a star. I checked in without fanfare into the heavily sanitized lobby. The staff was friendly and incredibly efficient. In no time at all, I was walking upstairs to my room. I would consider this more of a motel than an inn, just based on the layout and room style. The room itself was fine. There was a bit of a "needs a little fresh air" smell, so I turned on the heat/fan/ventilation (a little lackluster/outdated). The aroma disappeared. * On my second visit, I bought one of those "glade plugins" with me. I found it helped improve the aroma/aura of the room * The room was simple but clean. The king bed was comfortable and I slept sumptuously (although, I definitely heard those seagulls in my dreams). The bathroom was fine and the fireplace was a nice touch. We've been coming to Carmel for 20 years, why did we never stay here until now? This place is a perfect combination of location, price, and quality. It isn't the fanciest place to stay, but it is very nice. Room was roomy, clean, and comfortable. Staff was very friendly and the breakfast (included) was decent. The view is what makes it phenomenal. Definitely upgrade to a room with a balcony, which puts you on the 4th or 5th floor, and gives you a clear view of the ocean! And this was at about 60% the cost of the more upscale place where we usually stay. There are two restaurants right across the street, a grocery store and liquor store next door, and Ocean Ave. is a block and a half away. Parking is available on site and off the street. This will definitely be a go-to spot from now on. read more

Addition to my original review: We stay at this hotel several times a year , pre Covid. We thought we would drive down to stay for a couple days. The weather was 92 degrees which is very unusual. We had the same type of room . It was hotter in our room than outside. We couldn't leave or sliding glass door open to get air because flying ants, moths and large mosquitos were flying in our room. It was miserable and hot in our room all night because there Was no air conditioning and I couldn't open the sliding door. They weren't serving breakfast due to Covid. The employees were still helpful, friendly and courteous. I had to take one of the stars off because they need screens on the sliding doors so people can get fresh air. My stay this time was not pleasant. The next time we go I will check and try to go days where the weather is cooler. ........ We have stayed at this hotel several times . We book through booking.com. Each time we book the room with the bay/ocean view are never able to get a room with the full view only a room with part of the bay view on the side. It is still beautiful but it is the same price.. maybe they set aside certain rooms for bookings.com The hotel is well kept. The staff and house keepers are helpful and friendly. The room has a balcony, refrigerator, fireplace , comfortable bed and a beautiful view. But they don't have a microwave. The breakfast is good. The coffee in the office is wonderful. This time the carpet in our room had several stains.. needed to be shampooed. It's a blocks from Ocean Ave the Main Street and close to wonderful restaurants. I have stayed in a few hotels while in Carmel before. This one is definitely a favorite. Nice partial ocean view, and you don't have to pay $500/night like in other places in Carmel. It was truly relaxing. My wife and I selected a double queen bedroom, as we booked fairly late in the month and it was all they had left. It is an awesome middle ground for staying in a nice hotel, without the absorbent pricing. Bathrooms were very nice. We will definitely be back! read more

It's an okay place to stay. The parking is pretty tight, especially if you drive a larger vehicle. The water is warm, but not hot. I actually showered with it on the hottest setting and was wishing for more. The walls are thin, but the biggest complaint I have was that the floor of the room we were in was sloped. I actually decided to use my phone's level confirm this-it averaged a 2 degree slant all the way up to a 5 degree slant. It was a little strange to walk on. My mom and I just stayed here for 4 nights and I really loved the property. For many reasons, this hotel is a great pick. First off, you can't beat the price. It's an older property and it used to be a Best Western, but was bought out back in December. They have recently done renovations to the rooms, and I feel the property is very charming throughout. A lot of the inns and cheaper hotels in Carmel are old and dingy for a high price tag. Bay View Inn far exceeded my expectations in terms of a great deal/clean accommodations. Folks at the front desk were very friendly and welcoming. We had a fireplace in our room and when it wasn't turning on, they fixed it right away. Check in and check out was quick. Parking is free and there are quite a few spots on the property, (maybe about 15). The room was spotless and had clearly been remodeled within the last year. We stayed in room 206, and we could see the ocean from our window. The heater was kinda noisy, but it worked efficiently. They don't have air conditioning, so that's something to consider in the warmer months. You can seriously walk to anything you want to do in town. It's about a 10 minute walk to the beach, 2 blocks to all the shopping. Great restaurants across the street. Bruno's Deli is right next door if you need toiletries or snacks. I will stay again for sure! Loved it. read more

Very nice and clean rooms, we stayed in a total of 3 rooms due to the face the first room had a gas leak in the fire place, we switched to another room without a fireplace but had a balcony. Then the last night we checked to see if they had both a balcony and fire place and Luis (amazing customer service) put us in room 404 which has both balcony and a fire place with 180 degree view! Thank you Luis!!! The room was prefect (actually all of them where) we will be back for sure! read more

We really liked this old motel. You never really how what you're going to get in Carmel since they have so many small inns but we were pleasantly surprised at how nice the Carmel Bay View Inn rooms were. It looked like nothing special from the outside and was probably built in the 70s but the rooms were updated nicely, it was very clean, had a continental breakfast, free parking until 2pm the day of checkout, and our rooms had a beautiful view as well. This was a great value for the money and we are so happy to have found it! They also had a free crib for our baby that was set up in the room when we arrived. read more

It was such a bummer that this hotel does not have AC at all. When we asked for a fan, they said they do have fans and they will bring one for us. Half an hour passed, nobody came. We called the office and the manager said the employee is on lunch break and will bring a fan for us after their lunch break! Rooms are very noisy- you will hear everything from above, and the rooms are carpeted- sliding patio doors, people peeing.... The heater in the room is very loud, not pleasant to sleep with. TV is very blurry - doesn't seem like something that should happen in year 2022. They also do not believe in microwaves - "none on the premises". Not expecting luxury, but the price tag isn't low, so not expecting to hear other guests' bodily functions. read more

I've been staying here a few days, and it's been a very comfortable stay. The room and other facilities look exactly like the pictures. The price is reasonable, breakfast is provided, ample parking is available, and their free Wifi actually works! Even the complimentary lotion, soaps, shampoo, and conditioner are all very nice quality. There are no unpleasant surprises here. This hotel also happens to be in a great location, within easy walking distance to all the shopping in Carmel by the Sea. It's only steps from Bruno's Market, and about 2 blocks from Ocean Avenue.
