The king room was fine and the mattress was comfortable but the bathroom is TINY with only one sink and very little counter space. In fact the bathroom door to the tub and toilet barely clears the toilet!! The grounds are charming and the free breakfast that includes avocado toast, yogurt/granola cups, and a waffle maker (among other items) was delicious. The staff are friendly and it is walking distance to downtown restaurants and wineries. Unfortunately the tiny bathroom was a deal breaker for us. We would try another hotel if we ever go back to Carmel Valley. read more

It's not modern or new by any means but it has a nice country, cozy vibe and our stay was comfortable. The grounds are scenic with a small golf course and vineyard nearby. Update Update Update! This "lodge" (not a lodge) has such potential but it is so outdated. I felt like I was staying in my great aunt's guest room circa 1970. The rooms have everything you need but all those everythings are old and worn out. The one thing that stood out was the sheets. The softest sheets I've ever slept on. Crazy I know and they sell them in their gift shop. Overall for the one nights stay, it served its purpose, a place to sleep. Any more than one day and I'd look somewhere else to stay. The bathroom is super small, run down, three or four different towel colors kinda threw me off as well as the prison style shower head. Breakfast in the morning was delicious and homemade but the cook was a bit strange and hovered over the food. I felt uncomfortable to ask for a serving. It wasn't very welcoming so I didn't sit in the dining room. The whole stay/breakfast was just a bit odd. read more

My husband and I stayed here with our pup. The front office staff was so helpful and friendly . They had great suggestions for restaurants . The complimentary breakfast was a nice surprise . We were allowed to bring our pup inside to eat. On the weekends they had a hot dish along with yogurt parfaits, croissants , fruit, hard boiled eggs. The grounds were beautiful and we enjoyed the hot tub. Our suite was dated as people have mentioned but having a functional kitchen was awesome . We loved the fireplace and living area to watch TV. We had a wonderful stay at Carmel Valley Lodge for our 25th anniversary. If you are looking for a modern esthetic, this is not the place for you. It is country lodge, kitschy/cozy in the lobby and the grounds, but our king kitchenette cabin was very nice and comfortable, and not overly accessorized. They use premium linens on the beds which I really enjoyed. We had our dog with us and she was even welcome to join us in the breakfast area. All of the staff were super nice and breakfast was simple but delicious. I would definitely stay here again, especially if we are traveling with our pup. read more

We stayed here because we were attending a wedding nearby. I am not sure how they can justify their room rate when it was really a sort of motel with minor upgrades. An air conditioner recently installed!! The mattress was way too soft. One pillow was very lumpy!! All sorts of wierd towels , two in a bag said for cleaning? Another said for makeup removal. The grounds are pretty and the continental breakfast was a nice surprise . Signs in room asking for tipping ?! Furnishings very dated . I am not sure I'd recommend this place but it's Carmel Valley and the choices are not numerous . read more

I had the best weekend at Carmel valley lodge. This is a family run hotel run like a BnB. I had a two bedroom suite that felt like a cabin cottage and was perfect for a girls trip. Heater worked well for the winter. We took advantage of the hot tub and fire pits. Breakfast on weekends included delicious frittata. There was an ice machine and pretty artwork throughout. And we even did a yoga class with the owner as an instructor which was a great day. Location is walking distance to tap rooms/wineries. We can't wait to come back when it's warmer and we can use the pool. Friendly owners, and a great experience. read more

Don't give your money to these people. We planned a trip to the coast and to stay at this property, so that we could drive up and down Highway 1 for a few days. After we booked the lodging Highway 1 washed away and all of the areas that we intended to visit are not open to travel for an indefinite amount of time. The property would not take this into consideration when we requested them to work with us on the cancellation fee of 50% of the total booking cost. In fact, they said that "Travel plans can have many changes and problems when planning a trip. They need to be considered when making your reservations. The ONLY choice you have is to come and enjoy what is here or move the reservation to another date, WE CAN NOT REFUND" Again, THE HIGHWAY HAS WASHED AWAY. How could we have planned for a natural and infrastructure disaster that would destroy literally all of our vacation plans? I'm a fair person, and my partner and I do A TON of travelling, but this is shameless exploitation by a heartless business. Avoid this place, there are plenty of other places to stay. read more

Beware of fraudulent charges! Although I arranged for early check-in and paid an additional $50.00 for an upgraded room (said to be the only one available), they sneakily and without notice charged an additional $15.00 "early check-in fee" which I never authorized. Clearly they did not incur any additional expense for this, as the room was available. Then, after check-out they tried to sneak in another bogus $25.00 charge for room cleaning. The room was left in as good condition as upon arrival. Apparently the Lodge thinks once they have your credit card number it's their own personal piggy bank to use as they like. read more

Stayed at the Carmel Valley Lodge for the wedding of my niece. It's a cute, quaint lodge. Most of the workers are very friendly and helpful. The rooms are large and have a nice electric fireplace in them. Parking is easy and close to the units. They do have a nice complimentary breakfast. The hotel needs updating desperately. There is no maid service. You can request they bring you fresh towels and let them know you have trash, on the porch, to be dumped. There was mold in the shower and the bathroom window doesn't lock. They don't make the beds while you are there. I found it ironic that they place a tip envelope in the rooms to tip someone who doesn't come. In addition to the above, the heater in our room was not working...the heater was set at 60* but kept pumping to, at least, 90*. When I brought it to their attention, I was asked, "didn't they fix it yesterday?" My reply was I have no idea since we checked in yesterday. The did offer to move our stuff to a new room while we were at the wedding. That was a no from us. A very RUDE man came over later with a floor heater, wouldn't listen to what I was trying to explain. Clicked his dentures a few times, dropped the heater off and left. They have no one to fix anything on the weekends. While I was reporting our issue another wedding guest came in to inform them that they had an overflowing toilet. Like I said, they need to update. Restaurants are close by as are boutique stores. Cute town! I hope they work on updating...would have been a golden opportunity during Covid shut downs. read more

I'm very confused by some of these reviews. We must have been given the nicest room they have because I loved our comfortable, clean, spacious 2 bedroom. The shower head was a bit weird and could have been updated but the drain and the water temp/pressure was fine. The grounds were pretty. I loved the maintained gardens and the unique plants. My kids loved the huge chess set and the reading dragon. Because we were at multiple wedding events we didn't get to enjoy the pool and I'm hoping to bring them back for that. The gift shop was quirky and the breakfast was decent and included. It is also walking distance to the little downtown area and a bunch of restaurants. I love this place. The pictures online are deceiving. They look much better than the actual location. The room was dingy and the furnishings were old. The room i stayed in was dirty with dust on the baseboards. I expected a gas fireplace but it was an electric fireplace. The heating /ac unit sounds like a car engine when it runs. Woke me up every time it started up during the night. The window in the bathroom doesn't close with ease. The pocket door for the sink area doesn"t close properly. When you walk on the shower area the door just about opens into the water closet. The staff was apologetic foe the accommodations but didn't do anything to make my stay more accommodating. Dont waste your money on this place. I came back in the early evening and my room was never made up. When I voiced my concerns, the front desk girl said you need to request room service. I've stayed in many hotels and this is the first time I heard of this policy Do yourself a favor and stay away. Not worth the money. I would have been more comfortable in my car. read more

We stayed in the 3 bedroom cottage and it was just perfect for 4 adults and 1 toddler. We brought a crib for the toddler. The living room and kitchen were perfect size. The pool was heated at 85* in June and the hott tub was 104*. Clean and steps from the cottage. Juliana was so helpful every time I called with questions. Our stay here wasn't horrendous, but the weeks leading up to it were atrocious. My husband and I had to postpone our Carmel Valley wedding three times--long story short, Carmel Valley Lodge was the closest hotel to our venue that had enough rooms to accommodate our wedding party and family. Getting a hotel block was easy enough, but that is where the ease stopped. For reference, postponing a wedding three times was incredibly difficult logistically, we moved across the country, and I started my medical residency in the middle of a pandemic. We are used to hard things. Carmel Valley Lodge was the most difficult and stressful part of my life for the last several months. Being that it was a wedding, we had many guests with the same last name. Several times, Theresa altered the wrong reservation because she either did not remember the person's first name or maybe she didn't even ask. We asked three times for a list of names, rooms, and dates for our wedding block. When Theresa sent us a list, she including the reservation number and names only. There is no way for us to look up the reservation number--we were told by the woman at the front desk that their internal system allows them to look up the reservation number and see what rooms are booked. In short, she sent us information that was completely useless to us. After countless emails, phone calls, and alterations made to the wrong reservations, about two months prior to our wedding, Theresa finally sent us a list of rooms and the names associated with them (no dates though). The number of rooms and reservations worked out, finally. Just to be sure, about three weeks before the wedding I asked for the list one more time. This list was the most comprehensive we had received, which included the status of the rooms ('held', 'paid,' etc). I then saw that a room we had booked back in APRIL was cancelled (it was August by this time). I called immediately. Theresa told me that someone had cancelled the room back in April, and she could not tell us who or why. I asked her why this room was included on all the lists she had given us when we had asked for confirmation of the rooms under our block. She simply answered with "I don't know." She made no attempt to provide a solution. We asked what could be done for us since we were under the impression, for FOUR months that this room had been booked and there was NO correspondence prior to this that indicated otherwise. Theresa kept repeating "well I don't know what to do." Great. She told us the only accommodations available was a three bedroom cottage. She promised that she would block this room off so no one else would be able to book it, and would make a note to her staff that this room was held for us. We told her we needed a day to think it over as it was much more expensive than the room we originally booked. We called back a day later and she said she could not give us the cottage as the owner of the hotel (her sister) would be staying there that weekend and she had only promised us the cottage because she hoped her sister would not be in town. ARE. YOU. KIDDING. ME. First, as the owner of a hotel, if your staff screwed up, it should be on the owner to make it right and forfeit the room--YOU ARE IN HOSPITALITY. Second, the fact that Theresa made almost no effort to provide a solution upon realizing their mistake, is beyond me. After some harsh words from my now husband (he regrets letting his frustration show), Theresa offered to call other guests to see if they would reschedule, which I was surprised and grateful for. Until she called us 4 times to ask if a certain guest was in our block, when their names were included on the list she had given us of OUR WEDDING BLOCK. In the end, we actually ended up with the right amount of rooms (I attribute this to the fact I started praying because of this place). Which is where the next part begins. We had booked a room for my dad, and upon arriving to his room, the door was wide open. We had paid $400/night for a suite that was dated, had lightbulbs missing from one of two lamps in the main living space, and a half-broken kitchen light so needless to say it was extremely dark in our living room. One two light bulbs in the bathroom was screwed in so loosely it fell out while I was showering. Literally half of the light bulbs in this place were either broken or missing. Glasses in the cabinet were mismatched and dirty. They give you two dirty, old washcloths in a plastic bag with a sticker on it that says "I'm clean!" which they say is an effort to save on pristine white towels, which I guess is more environmentally friendly but a little odd. To top it off, there was a lizard in our room. The few pluses: there are two firepits on the pool deck and there is a space to hang out by the event center, which includes ample, comfortable patio seating and is well lit. The location is within walking distance to everything in downtown Carmel Valley and the views are great. read more

Lets start with the positives. I really wanted to like this place the pics looked like a charming garden with cozy seating but that's just at the reservation area. We reserved a king size bed with kitchenette there were two seats in front and I thought ok we're not facing the parking lot. The lady at the front desk was nice and gave my pup a treat bag. the pool and hot tub as clean and they offered a continental breakfast which was tasty. Within 20 mins of our 3:00 checkin we hear the sound of someone drilling in the next bungalow area so we left hoping the noise would be done when we returned. Later that night we just got in bed when a ear splitting alarm when off we thought it was a fire alarm I followed the sound to the outside and the found a flashing red light on the back of our bungalow we had to call the afterhours number and once he Chris finally arrived the noise stopped he said he didn't know what the sound was but saw the box with flashing light we later found out it was the septic tank alarm for the propert. Why would anyone put some thing like that the back wall of a room were guest stay??? And why wouldn't your after hours person have some knowledge of the alarm systems??? hotel staff never apologized, but at breakfast I overheard them let other guest about it I spoke up and but got the feeling they blamed us in some way because they kept saying this has never happened in the 6 yrs they had the property I booked on line and when I got the confirmation that showed I be ok 2 people and a small dog I thought were were set but. A few days before we headed to CVL got a email not showing the booking for my dog so I called they said if you book online it doesn't add the charge for the dog so it was an-additional $30.00 a day we stayed from Fri-Tues Room cleaning they don't "refresh your room for 3 nights or on the 4 day, they cleaned the room next to ours on Mon morning so when we returned later that day to see the room had not been done I went to the front desk to asked to have the room cleaned the first response was he repeated the policy after a back and forth he finally call house keeping who cleaned our room. they have a sign and envelope in the room about tipping your housekeeper but why would you tip for service your not getting? I did tip the house keeper because she was sweet. Tuesday at just before 6AM the power in Carmel valley went out! Not their fault but when I called the front desk the man who answered (think it was Chris) sounded annoyed that I called. FYI the ice machine was on the other side of the property from were we where you had to go through the pool area with is locked after 10pm. It was a very disappointing experience, and not worth what we paid $1700.00 and to add insult because of the power outage I didn't get my invoice until I got home and they changed us $4.00 for the honor basket!! We "DID NOT" use anything from their honor basket! We brought all our snacks and fresh fruit, water, soda and had plenty of food from our restaurant visits! Don't book here you can do better! read more

Carmel Valley Lodge has changed hands and the charm is coming back. We were pleasantly surprised, upon arrival, to be greeted by Theresa who was at the front desk. Our first impression was Theresa was happy to meet us and so accommodating to do whatever she could to make our stay comfortable; even gave us a wrapped bag of treats for our dog Wesley. It's obvious the new owner has more experience and many ideas to reclaim that valley charm. We will definitely be back to enjoy the heated pool and the serene surroundings. read more

Had the WORST experience as far as costumer service goes and will NEVER GO HERE and will tell my enormous family and friends to not give their money to Carmel Valley Lodge. We had family emergency and with all the chaos my husband booked the wrong date. When we realized after the fact they wouldn't work with us in any way and charged us full price and this place isn't cheap. They had zero hospitality or empathy considering they're in the "hospitality" business. I know it was our fault, but some compassion would have been nice and maybe not charging full price when we never even stayed there. Loved staying here. Very cozy and comfortable room with a lot of space and a fireplace. All the rooms have a different layout it seemed. They have a great pool and hot tub. They're right off the highway that goes through Carmel Valley and very close to serval great wineries and restaurants in the valley alone, not to mention a 10-15 minute drive to get to Carmel by the sea. read more

Loved this place!! Sooo peaceful and relaxing. All brand new furniture, televisions, lights and toilets. Booked a room here for $99 and got a huge two bedrooms place that looked like a cabin. Breakfast is all vegan and raw but didn't get a chance to go. It's super close to town also! My husband and I will for sure return here if we are ever in the area!! Ps. BEWARE!!!!! The owner of this lodge, Julia, is downright RUDE and INSULTING. We had booked to stay at this lodge the end of 2019 for a wedding we had April 2020. As a result of COVID-19, the bride had to abruptly postpone her wedding to Sept 2020. Sadly, due to the current state we are in as a result of the ongoing pandemic and shelter in place- the bride emailed all of her guests the beginning of July to inform them that she was cancelling her wedding altogether and mentioned that she had been in contact with Carmel Valley Lodge who was going to issue full refunds. I immediately called the lodge and Chris informed me that they would issue me a refund within 2 weeks. (Both my confirmation email and cancellation email stated my reservation was refundable). Two weeks passed by and I still did not have a check in the mail from my refund (they refused to put the amount back on my credit card because they stated it was "too late.") I called the lodge again and spoke with Julia who stated that refunds would be issued in 90 DAYS and started insinuating that I lied about expecting to receive a refund within 2 weeks. Frustrated that I had to wait another 3 months for a refund from reservation that was fully paid for since November 2019, the conversation escalated. JULIA STARTED TO RAISE HER VOICE AT ME AND HAD THE AUDACITY TO MAKE ME FEEL WORSE BY ASKING ME IF I KNEW THAT THE HOTEL INDUSTRY WAS SUFFERING. TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE- SHE CONTINUED TO ASK ME "WHAT IS GOING ON IN YOUR LIFE THAT YOU NEED THIS MONEY BACK SO BAD!?!?!" I was completed stunned. Little did she know, nor did I give her the satisfaction by telling her, that I lost my job in April as a result of COVID-19 and a $500 refund would really help the current financial crisis I (along with so many others) am facing. Needless to say, this was not the first trip I had to cancel this year. However, this was the first time I had such a HORRIBLE encounter trying to cancel a hotel reservation- and by the owner!! EVERY other hotel has been so understanding and accomodating. But that goes to show you there is always one bad apple and that bad apple is Carmel Valley Lodge. I will never EVER stay here and I do not recommend this lodge to anyone. Maybe this will teach the owner, Julia, to treat her customers with a little more respect! read more

I can't complain. It's a five star stay. We pull up and there was a man hunched over a brown paper bag. I thought maybe he had lost his key in the mulch or was trying to hold down the log to keep it from floating away. That's when I knew this man was drunk. Shit, did we mess up booking this place? We popped into the main lodge and checked in. It's got a very Frodo-baggins home lodge vibe to it. Lil musty, the shower is storage in the bathroom in the lodge and many of the other rooms were shut down. But it was the end of the year so maybe things were shut down for the year(as there were only a day or so left). We were staying at the Garland Ranch. I checked in and got the keys. The drunk man was gone. We drove around and Garland Ranch cabin had its own parking spot. There were lil lemons growing on the lemon trees planted out front of our cabin. The front porch was worn and could use some work but it perfectly fit our needs. The main bedrooms were big and nearly identical in size. One had its own bathroom. Bathrooms were really clean. So what the appliances our old, they still work perfectly. Honestly, probably the comfiest bed I've ever laid in. It was so comfy while I couldn't sleep one night insomnia mixed with booze but I couldn't bring myself to peel myself out of the comfy divot my body had bored itself into in the middle of the bed. I kept staring around closing my eyes because every time I moved I was like ah dang it's too comfy hold up I'll jus lay a lil longer. It was also deathly quiet. So if ya want a good nights rest I recommend Garland Ranch cabin. The fire pits and hot tub were up and runnin. 6 to 9. We got pitted by the fire and soaked in da tub later on. Very casual. Too casual even. Guy came and lit the pit at 6 on the dot. They runnin a tight ship. Save for the barking dog, truck sound and kids playing at a reasonable 8am outside our window, it's a dark and dank comfy spot in the back. We were here to party for New Years, but this was a very quiet spot overall. read more

The mayor placed a shelter in place order mid-March for my county so I called the third-party booking site to see if they could help me cancel my booking. I knew the booking was non-refundable when I made it and I had every plan to go; however, this was beyond my control and my not being able to make my trip was not my fault. There are airlines and hotels everywhere willing to work with their customers to help them during this time of crisis. Carmel Valley Lodge isn't one of them. They flat out refused citing that the booking was non-refundable. Every other business is taking a huge loss because of the coronavirus but Carmel Valley Lodge won't budge and will hold onto that last penny spent. Way to make a name for yourself during this time of crisis. It's during these hard times when the true character of human beings are revealed and it's good to know that this establishment is selfish, and cannot be trusted. I will not be booking with them in the future and I'd advise everyone else to re-consider prior to booking, especially if you feel like you may need to make modifications to your booking prior to arriving. I feel horrible that businesses, small and large alike, are suffering during this time but I won't be shedding a tear for this place. Enjoy the losses. read more

I would have really liked to stay here. My spouse & I were needing a much required getaway while being caretakers to my terminally ill mother. I booked my stay on hotels.com & within 24 hours needed to change my stay due to my family circumstance (this change was ten days before the day we were due to check-in). Our hotels.com representative alongside me took the time to call the hotel & explain the difficult situation & need for rescheduling. The hotel informed me that in-spite of our desire to rebook to a later date they refuse to consider our unfortunate familial situation. The hotel told us we need to cancel our booking & that we would be charged a one night stay after which we could then rebook with them. The manager at the time exuded no compassion nor care for our circumstance despite our desire to still reschedule the dates of our stay. While some of the reviews that I have read, discussed the conditions of this hotel being a bit sub par, I was still hopeful for a quaint experience. However, I have found the human element to be what is completely atrocious. Please do yourself a favor & book any place other than this hotel when visiting beautiful Carmel. It's sad that this is the way certain places do business. read more

Haven't even checked in yet "because check-in is at 3p". Lol Lazy front desk person if you ask me. Hanging out at the pool and I see lots of empty rooms. Most hotels would accomodate and early check-in, btw it's after 1p. And when I asked if there was a bathroom I could use "No, ours is out of order, but there is a gas station down the street." Really? Customer service is noticeably absent here! I'm giving it 1 star because the pool is clean. Now I'm headed to the gas station! Continued... Checked in around 2:15 & out by 4:30. I stayed here this weekend and had an absolutely fantastic experience. I wasn't expecting much from this place to be honest as my friend and I booked it on Hotel Tonight (which I won't be using now that I know how much they take out of the rate)- this place deserves all the money. If you see a rate on HotelTonight, call the hotel themselves and they will honor it. Valerie helped us at the front desk and gave us so many pointers on where to eat and what to do. Thanks to her suggestions we had an entire itinerary planned out for our day in Caramel-by-the-sea. I am so grateful for her recommendations. In addition, I loved the free breakfast, fire pit, pool and hot tub. I enjoyed them each day I was here. It's a very relaxing atmosphere and it's worth the money you spend per night. No air conditioner as the temperature here is great so if that's an issue for you, be sure to look for the fan in your closet. The only thing I didn't have here that I usually get at other hotels is a robe/slippers. Not a big deal as I didn't really need one, but I did want to mention. We just returned from a pleasant 2 night stay here. We live in the Bay Area and have gone here through the years. As we raised our children, it was a perfect place for a short family vacation. It has a beautiful swimming pool and is across the street from a quiet playground. It's a nice walking distance into the the village which has many restaurant choices. We continue to enjoy this lodging and the Carmel Valley area now that our children are grown with their own children. The facility has changed ownership several times since we first began going there. The new owners and staff are extremely nice and accommodating. This is not your upscale, overpriced, corporate, resort. It is clean, welcoming and comfortable inn with many choices of room sizes and a very good breakfast each morning. read more

Just returned from a 4 day stay at this comfortable and friendly resort. My stay was superb . Smiling faces each day from the efficient staff. Special thanks to Theresa and Luanna for a delicious continental breakfast each day. I especially enjoyed the fresh pastry's from the local bakery and the homemade deviled eggs. Delish! And of course there was never ending fresh coffee. The atmosphere is woodsy and relaxed, with flowers everywhere. My cabin was so inviting, bed was comfy, and overall well appointed. I had my own patio and was close to the beautiful heated pool and spa. So much to do in Carmel Valley and Monterey. Didn't want to leave. The renovations continue but do not interfere with the guests' experience. I will be back! read more
