A fine place. No tribulations whatsoever. Happy to report that of the two times I've been here…read more(spaced over six months), Trials Pub is a winner. A handsome building with three distinct areas to settle in, it's easy to find comfort here. The choice mix-tape music with ample offerings from the 80s and 90s especially, help set the mood. And though this is an English pub, the music is not confined to the U.K. The beer selection is great - and international, as well. The Guiness menu on the wall is helpful, but there's even more to explore. Tumer Pils, Stella, et al. And there is a good whiskey menu, too. Trials is also great for food. I recently enjoyed their Pub Burger, which is a hearty plate of 1/2 lb. burger, with bacon, cheese, and the usual veggie accompaniment. The 'chips' are good and plentiful, but I have now tried their beer-battered onion rings -- and those are wonderful. Perfectly crunchy, not greasy, and just salty enough. If you do opt for the salad with any of your dishes, it's deep green and crafted with care. The side salad here is no afterthought. The Shepard's Pie looks great, and apparently is (though my dining companion failed to offer me a bite). Previously, I had enjoyed the falafel plate because sometimes, you just want falafel. Also previously, I tasted the chicken curry dish (hearty and delicious). The Mac n Cheese bites got high marks at our table, though I did not partake. The sausage rolls - classic pub fare - were very good on my first trip here. The cold water is refreshing and welcome. And the Tumer Pils hit the spot. It's all good here. Special mention for Thomas, one of the gents here. Super-likable, with a sly sense of humor, Thomas is a major asset at Trials Pub. Parking is easy -- or just ride-share -- just in case.

To date myself, lol, remember it opening in the late 80s and it was the spot. In some ways it still is the spot what's the right expectations. It has a British pup feel, a decent selection of beer, and every time I've gone in I've been satisfied with my food. This time ordered happy hour cheese sticks, zucchini, sticks, wings, and meat pie (not pictured). Zucchini sticks stood out! There was crispy on the outside and moist and juicy on the inside. Everything else was pub food that went great with our beers, and never been disappointed with the service.

The beer list is dominated by American craft brews with only a couple of British beers - and not one British beer on the Happy Hour list. The place has always been as much a sports bar as a pub, but it seems now they're got a lot of activities to bring people in: a trivia night, a karaoke night, Taco Tuesdays, etc. On my recent visit, the waitress was great. Friendly and helpful. I ordered a patty melt, which was perfection. It's one of those things that a place either gets right or doesn't, and The Brit came through. Sadly, the accompanying steak fries were kind of mushy. My friend ordered a Cornish pasty. He said that both it and the vegetables that came with it were tasteless. At the end of the night, my friend asked if I'd go back. I thought about it for a bit and said "maybe." I'd like to give their fish & chips a try. But overall, the place was just OK. The atmosphere was pleasant, the prices were good, but the food was a little disappointing.

I chose the CC Chicken Dupbop. Their dishes are customizable so I chose it to sit on top of Egg Rice (which also was on top of some shredded cabbage). I chose the spice on the chicken to be lemon pepper (non spicy option) and Angry sauce drizzled on top (which is flavorful and just enough spicy). This was listed as their best selling. Bcuz many photos had the Corn Cheese, i decided to add that on as a side. Did I need the .99cent mac salad add on too? No, I would have been full without either side, But did i enjoy them and glad I tried, yes! It was my first time there so I went for it. I have some Santa Clara favorites and will add to my list of places to go when I'm working over here. The service was friendly, on time, and interior has cool vibe and a great place to hang with your friends.

The pork was tender, flavorful, and had a nice smoky savory taste throughout. The kimchi fried rice added a good balance of spice and tanginess that paired perfectly with the richness of the pork. The homemade BBQ sauce was definitely the highlight for me. It had a sweet and smoky flavor with a little tang that made every bite even better. Portions were generous and filling, especially for the price, and everything was packaged nicely for takeout. Only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that the rice became a little oily toward the bottom of the bowl, but overall it was still a really satisfying meal. Would definitely order again when I'm craving a quick and flavorful rice bowl.
