They get stars for just being open late on a weekday, and one of the few bars in the area. But other than that, there's nothing really "elegant" about this pub IMO. First, they have a sign as you enter, stating "free pool" Mon-Wed.. then inside, not only is there only one pool table, but the worker says it's not available till after 11:30pm due to League. I didn't come there for pool, just an odd observation. There was plenty of seating available on a Tuesday night (booths and bar), but also a good amount of locals just hanging around which made it feel somewhat crowded. And when the bartender went for a smoke, leaving the bar unattended, it seemed many of the customers joined her. It did somewhat smell like cigarette smoke inside. The bartender was nice though and she was attentive to our needs, communicated well (even when she was stepping outside), and provided good service. We just had a couple mixed drinks (which were pretty weak compared to other places), shared some casual conversation, and caught a glimpse of the NBA playoffs on the medium-sized TV screen (they only had two TV's at the bar, but good picture quality, no sound.. instead they played random music in the background). For a friendly neighborhood bar, it's a decent laid-back spot, located in a low-key strip mall plaza. But I wouldn't go out of my way to return here. read more

My good friend wanted to see some of her friends play in their Mexican Punk Rock Band, and I said "Girl, I am so down!" We carpooled over and boy was I surprised! Parking outside wasn't much of an issue for a busy Saturday night. At the door, we were carded and were let right in. The bar is on the left in the back. They can make most cocktails and have a fair selection of beers on tap. The bartenders are all very friendly. The venue is a little on the older side, but it has character. Wood finishing on some of the booths. The bar is massive and divey. To the right of the entrance is where there is the music venue. It's a big open space with it's own restrooms and space to dance. Again, not the most eloquent place, but a fun little venue! The band rocked out and the sound system worked well. The beer and cocktails were made well and the prices didn't break the bank. Overall: The place itself isn't quite Elegant, but you'll have a fun time! read more

I stopped in with two of my girlfriends for a few drinks and it was just as I remembered -- a small low key neighborhood pub. Bartenders are sweet. Drinks are not overly expensive. Full bar so you can order any of your favorite drinks. Small pool table. No DJ but there is a modern jukebox ($1 to $2 per song) and you can download an app to add funds or to choose songs. Crowd gets heavy by 9pm or so. Security scans images of your picture ID on Fridays and Saturdays after a certain time -- I guess there have been big brawls in the past and this policy probably controls it a bit more. Dress code is strictly enforced for men. No hats, baggy pants, and I think shirts or sweaters that may imply gang affiliation (I overheard one of the security guards). Other than that, it's a cool spot to grab a few drinks with some good company. And by the way, the brunch and lunch food here is absolutely excellent. Real hearty, hardcore diner style type food. Came here one night due to our desire to keep the fun rolling by tossing back more drinks and rubbing elbows with a few strangers. Do be advised that The EP does have a dress code and ID is an absolute MUST! A few things that must be avoided are baggy clothing [not even baggy plain white tees], jerseys [of any type], & gang affiliated clothing or tattoos. The pub comes fully equipped with security guards so sneaky attempts are done at your own risk. Kudos to the DJ and his selection of music- straight hip hop. The regulars need to stay regular, and they need new custom, or I can see this place tanking too. nothing amazing. You enter from the Inn side. The night I went there was a LGBT benefit show with rock bands (pretty neat with the live music). Definitely crazy but fun! And who doesn't love live music? Paid cover of $8 and had a drink. I wouldn't suggest ordering cocktails, my Moscow mule was sour AF. Not sure what gave me a bad stomach ache at 3AM. The bartender accused me of having used a fake the last time I was in the pub even though I've never had a fake in my life. Her baseless accusations and kicking me out was extremely unprofessional and made me wonder if she was having an episode. If you're in a younger demographic that can legally drink I highly recommend taking your business elsewhere. *fist pump* Thug life. LOVE IT. Half expecting a handful of weird people hanging around here? No! Don't misjudge the place. The first time I came here was with this guy I dated for awhile. He lived nearby, so this was his 'hood to unwind after a long day of work. I guess he was a regular, because he knew everyone! I mean....EVERYONE! Of course, I didn't know what to expect when I walked in. Surprised, everyone is super friendly and the bartenders are sweet! Best time to come is during the weekday. Avoid coming here on a weekend. Not that I have anything against it. Mix crowd is anywhere between 20 to 30 somethings with that good of a good balance, you can't go wrong with meeting nice people. Great vibe all around because it's so chill! You won't get into any fist fights with anyone as opposed to downtown San Jose. There's a pool table, dart boards, a few tables and booths. If that's not your kind of thing, they also have beer pong!! Tues-Thurs after 10pm for beer pong and it's free to everyone. However, you have to buy a pitcher of beer in order to play which is better than nothing right? They carry a fair selection of liquor but that shouldn't matter! Music is likeable since they have a jukebox. Bathrooms are well-kept. Most of the people don't just come here for the drinks and shoot pool, but also for the food! I love how weird this place is. It's like a nightclub in a Denny's/IHOP. You might ask yourself a few things when you walk into this place.... Why is there a gazebo? Why is there a dance floor? Why is no one on the dance floor? Why so many lights? hahaha there were 30 of us so The Elegant Pub became our own private dance party. The DJ played whatever we wanted, the bartender was quick to get to our group and our group had a blast. Drinks are cheap :) I love the local bar feel. East Side EVERGREEN San Jose California represent! LOL Sometimes I don't want to go to downtown San Jose to club. I don't want to deal with parking and getting dressed up. When that happens I'll gladly mosey along to The Elegant Pub. At first glance it's a place that will make you question the integrity of whoever invited you to go. I admit it's not the best, not the cleanest, and not the most popular spots to hang out, but like I always say "if you're with good company, anything can be fun". The bartenders are friendly, the people who go there are friendly, and it's just a comfortable place to hangout and knock back a few drinks. They have a small pool table, another room to dance in, along with a few tvs, and a jukebox. Another perk of coming here is theres a burrito stand right outside that caters to the people of the Elegant pub. My boyfriend and our friends come here all the time. I've been frequenting it now for 5 months. Every week unless i'm sick. I only go during the slower parts of the week (Sunday to thursday after 9pm) One long room, one pool table, dart area, 3 or 4 booth areas, high tops around the pool table, bar tops of course. Music is all to your taste. Theres a touchtunes juke box there so you can play whatever you want. Junior makes the best double margaritas! Clean bathrooms on the girl's side! They used to have karaoke wednesday (held in the dining room of the Evergreen Inn) but the DJ apparently broke her leg doing something. Junior told my BF recently though they're going to start it up again soon. And what some people come for just to have, street tacos! Available thursday, friday and saturday till the bar is closed. Beef or tongue, burrito or taco, up to you! Yea its a little ghetto. It's the east side! But its a neighborhood bar where everyone knows each other and sometimes you just need that instead of the hustle and bustle of nameless people in a pitch black club. read more

Elegant Pub. "Elegant" and "Pub"; neither of those two words apply to this joint, but it IS one of the few places on the Eastside that has character. And by character, I mean the spot is the epitome of a neighborhood, reflecting the community nearby. Hardworking. No pretense. Even a little bit hood-sy. Real. Depending on when you go to Elegant Pub, you can encounter a whole gamut of people. During the day (Sunday, whilst the attached Evergreen Inn is serving generously portioned breakfast food), the Elegant Pub is full of friendly regulars, the bar lined with older couples and ESSJ natives that seem to have ritually met here for years. The bar is really just an extension of the restaurant at this point, bustling with people eating omelets and swedish pancake breakfasts, only accompanied by Screwdrivers and Bloody Marys instead of coffee and OJ. (BONUS: on Saturday and Sunday, bar patrons can get a free bowl of menudo with the purchase of alcohol.) Weeknights are slow Monday through Wednesday, as can be expected. But on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights, the place is lively and frenetic with local clientele (and all that comes with THAT... read: sometimes hood-sy). Just act right, no bluster, no frontin', no fakery, and you'll be fine. The staff here, day and night, are some of the friendliest bartenders around, adept and quick to serve, whether its to sling Irish Coffees and Chavelas to breakfast/brunchers, or pouring drafts and shots for the late night crowd. The decor is outfitted with all the standard fare; a pool table, a jukebox, a dozen seats at the bar, darts, and 4-5 dimly lit high-back booths, you know, for privacy. This is the eastside, after all; people still get hickeys on this side of town. I'm not quite sure what time the attached restaurant serves food until (I've only ever been there on a Sunday morn), but if you happen to be there later in the evening and missed the kitchen, don't despair. Right outside on the sidewalk, a cart/stand is set up most nights making and selling tacos with so much authenticity and street cred that the nearby Taco Bell probably has an inferiority complex everytime the sun goes down. And I must say, those tacos have saved my drunk behind many a night... (And really, I'm kidding, the hood isn't so hood... I've lost credit cards here and gotten them back. It's not the type of place you drive out of your way to frequent, but if you're lucky enough to live close by, it has character and is always a good time. The people here are real - and fun. It is what it is....and I love it. After passing this place countless times, seeing it pop up on my Yelp app, and finally seeing it win ROTD(Good review Mikey U), I figured I had to check it out. Rolling in a few weeks ago, I really had NO idea what to expect. Obviously off the beaten path as far as location for a bar, so I guessed it would be a local kind of crowd. Immediate impression was somewhat funny, including multiple security guards escorting someone outside(looked pretty belligerently drunk), a few people in the parking lot drinking 40's, and a taco stand right outside the door. I knew this was going to be fun. Walking in, I was thoroughly searched by a security guard, always a quirky first impression of a bar, then we walked in(what's a cover charge?). Apparently the Evergreen Inn(diner next door) is a part of the "club"/bar/lounge? They are connected, the larger side being the diner side. The decor here is my favorite part. The tables are mostly cleared to create a dance floor which is awesomely made up of 1980's typical Americana diner pattern. The walls have the same style Americana diner pictures reminiscent of someplace a distant grandparent would take you out to breakfast to. The highlight of the room is a small gazebo(yes you read that right) where the dj is set up and playing mostly Yay Area classics along with the videos being projected onto what looked like a tablecloth duct taped onto the wall(yes you read that right too). On the "pub" side there is a bar serving drinks in plastic cups(yes I said plastic) with about 10-12 bar stools. There's also a pool table snug in there. The crowd was mixed and represented the East Side and neighborhood well. I think I was the only European descent person there, which I am used to and enjoy. Lots of younger people (21-25) looking, but also a slightly more mature crowd (26-35) representing well too. It's close to me, and I love my East Side, so I'd definitely come back for a drink or six. On the different nights I've been here, I've always seen different crowds of people. I have mixed feelings about this place. I have been here countless times during the day during breakfast hours and am a fan of the food. But my first visit at night was a whole different experience. The fact that they have bouncers at the door patting men down and checking women's purses says something about the crowd you are going to encounter. I came here with a local regular and noticed a lot of people from Silvercreek High School go here. A couple of things I did like was that the bartenders know how to make a stiff drink. And even though they stop serving food you are allowed to bring your own! I saw some people eating Taco Bell at the bar lol. There is also a DJ on weekend nights that plays really good music! None of that EDM garbage you constantly hear downtown. But I just can't imagine getting down where I eat breakfast with my grandparents. So overall, if you live in ESSJ and want a chill environment this is worth checking out. read more

I give the pub an overall 3 stars and an extra one for being soo friendly. So when I first walked in I was expecting this place to be dark and creepy, regardless for the "elegant" title. But the lights were fully on and had only a hand full of people. This was around 10:30 on a Thursday night. My friends live close by and come here once a while. Today was a special birthday so there was about 13 of us that showed up randomly. I kinda felt like we were outcasts since everyone at the bar just stared at us when we walked in. The place did have an odd bad smell. There is a pool table right when you walk in with a couple of booths and a bar. Not a very large pub but a good enough size for being in a neighborhood. The bar staff was friendly and turns out everyone else that was there was friendly also. The music there is good... depending on who picks it! They have an up to date juke box for .50 each song. Besides offering pool, they over beer pong! They had this pro beer pong table, I'm use the the original table tennis tables, which seemed a bit small. Turns out it's just as hard since everyone was use to it being wider and longer. =) They supply everything including the red cups and two balls. The game is free itself, you just have to pay for the pitcher of beer. Looks like they only do it after 10 on Tues,Wed, Thurs. Overall experience was fun with friends, can't say it's the best place to go if you want to meet a whole bunch of new youngings since it seemed like the crowd was a little older 28+. THIS IS MY SECOND HOME. I absolutely LOVE it here. It's definitely a local place, kind of like my own neighborhood Cheers (it's literally 5 minutes away from my house). The bartenders are AMAZING. They're really helpful & are always willing to help you decide on a drink if you're like me & want to try new things every now & then. I LOVE Junior, Amanda & Laura. Hector the owner is a really great guy. Free nachos before 9:30 !! Ladies nights on Thursday nights ($7 patron shots !!). I guess I'm biased, but I love it here. They always have the game on, you can get a pitcher for $12 & for the most part, the usuals are great people to chat with. It's definitely the kind of place where you go to have a drink if you don't want to deal with the hassle of downtown (getting ready, driving, parking, dealing with excessive crowds, cover charges & expensive drinks). Small bar near my "hood". It's next to the Evergreen Inn, which people usually call the Evergreen Inn and Pub. This is a review about the Pub part. I've gone here more than a few times and each time it was fun. There's a pool table, a jukebox with a whole bunch of dated tunes, gotta love that, a dart board with the points on the darts kinda bent and a black board with a list of the bars contests, nightly specials and all kinds of other info you'd care about if you were a regular here. All the times I've gone, the bar has never been packed, the people have always been friendly and this is the only bar I've been to, where 20 somethings and 40+ somethings are talking, laughing and drinking together without anyone looking at them weird. The vibe here is chill, no one is there to check anyone out or hook up. To me it seems, everyone is there to just chill, hangout, meet new people and have a good time. Hmm maybe these people live in the apartment complex next door....that'd be so tight to live walking distance to a bar... Total local bar but not necessarily a bad thing. I used to come in here all the time and run into old high school friends which was a plus but I noticed that this places attracts a lot of hood rats as well. The drinks are a little on the higher side, especially the beer. You can order food which is a plus and I'm talking a bacon burger with fries which is pretty solid. Bartenders are alright depending on who is pouring. The guy during the day could use a personality improvement. I stopped coming here as much but I tend to drop by here and there. I grew up around the area, so I've seen this place for years, yet me and my friends never decided to go, simply because it's a bar in evergreen. Doesn't seem like the hippest place to go. Then we finally went. And yeah, that's pretty much all we did. I don't know how to describe this place. Outside, it looks like a mountain lodge, inside, it looks like a dive bar. But it's not really a dive bar, I mean c'mon it's in evergreen, the safest, most non ghetto place ever. The clientelle though would dispute it, with all the East Side SJ nonsense, but please. Drinks are also pricey too. And it's pretty small. And it smells funky. If you want a cool place to pick up drinks around evergreen, I wouldn't suggest Elegant Pub. I'd suggest Lucky's. read more

Okay so I guess I put my review in the wrong place earlier. BUT this is the right place so.. If you go to the pub before 8 pm expect so see a bunch of old people 55 and up. The Villages is just up the street. The old people are really nice though. One time my friend lost her ring so we were all looking for it. And then all of the old people started crawling around on the floor. And I mean EVERYONE in there was crawling on the floor and the bartender (Bree) turned on the lights. After 8 though you get a variety of people and it's really fun. I LOVE the bartenders they are so nice. And the jukebox is pretty cool. Lots of variety. read more

At each other from across the bar in hopes of starting something, this place is far from elegant. I come to the pub every now and then, and the restaurant more regularly. During the day, it seems like the pub crowd is more older folks. I've never kicked it in there during that time of the day, but I've peered in while eating next door. At night, the pub is more catering to the East Side crowd. The bartenders are friendly and so are the patrons! They have a jukebox and a pool table, and you can order from the restaurant if you get the munchies. I believe they stop serving around 8 PM. The restaurant's menu is a mixed bag. I've had the corned beef hash plate (my favorite!!), chorizo con huevo (okay), chile verde (meh), strawberry pancake/crepe like thingies (yuck) and french toast (okay). The hash browns are hit and miss, sometimes it's too burnt on the outside and raw on the inside, and other times it's just right. The toast is served with very little butter spread on it, so if you like hella butter on your toast, be sure to let them know. Everything is served in big portions, you WILL end up taking a box. The coffee is decent, and they serve red for the grapefruit juice option. The service is always good, they're friendly and attend to you but don't pester you at the same time. You can order drinks from the bar as well. Good place to bring your family on a weekend morning. read more

Ahhh, my good old neighborhood bar...been going there since I was a kid, and still enjoy walking in. A LOT of good memories there, and a few bad ones. Overall, it's a good place to relax during the weekdays, but as soon as they tried to make it a "nightclub", it bothered me enough to keep my distance on weekend nights. I've actually had a pretty good time every time I've come here. People are pretty friendly even with an element of ghetto in the air, but I've always been cool with that. Music is loud and fun. Good mix of club stuff and spanish jams. Pool table, TVs playing sports or music videos. Decent spot. Here's where it lacks...I guess on Friday/Saturday (maybe Thursday) it turns from the Elegant Pub to the Elegant Club. They charge cover, they asked me to take off my baseball hat (though I think the bouncer was an A's fan and just hating), but for real?! But I guess it works because the place filled up around 10 and it was definitely a party. I'd probably say ease up on the no hat thing if you're claiming to be a pub. Also...what's the deal with not being able to open up a tab? My hand hurt by the end of the night with the amount of times I had to sign my credit card bill. The place is a little confused in some areas, but since I recently moved to evergreen it's probably my first choice watering hole for now. read more
