There was no indoor seating but they do have heat lamps on the higher level. That said... bundle up - it's worth it. Hostess and server were prompt and friendly! Food was not the highlight (at least not what we had). We were disappointed the New England clam chowder was swimming in bacon. Beat salad was delicious as were the fish tacos. Lobster roll was recommended for the portion size - which was spot on - you fed practically a full lobster. But it had zero flavor. Like they shell it, cool it and just dump it on the bun. End of the season so maybe they're over it. lol Carrot cake was delicious!!! Will definitely return for the ambiance and try other menu items.

Both times I have had a good experience. The hotel (really it is a motel) is well maintained - clean and functional. We had piping hot water and our room had a mini fridge. The front desk was friendly and we didn't have any issues. The restaurant was great. They accommodated us for breakfast and dinner and were consistently good.

My new slogan for this hotel is "Stay Away, or Stay Awake!"…read more This overnight stay at the Lake Front Hotel was an absolute nightmare. They recently remodeled the exterior, and the adjacent restaurant is pretty good, but each room looks outdated and poorly designed, where they think hanging a colorful photo of the lake is going to make any difference. You'd think they'd have a modern theme, but it was helplessly outdated. There are no cups, no water, and zero personality or hospitality! Some of the hand towels were so old the edges were frayed. The linens were rough, possibly a two thread-count. There's no iron or ironing board in the room! When we asked for an iron, the nice guy in the office said we had to bring our clothes to the office! Wait, what? He allowed us to use this little dark storage backroom to iron our clothes. It was very strange. The point of having an iron in the room is that if you're not sure what you're wearing the next morning, you can iron something else instead at your leisure. With this scenario we had to take four shirts to the office just to have a back up shirt ironed in case one of us wanted another option to wear. The smell in the bedroom was reminiscent of mold, smelly socks, and dirty carpet. Just so unbearable I had to spray cologne in the air just to cover up the smell. The noise from the upstairs was unbearable. I'm writing this review at 1:30am and people are still walking around, and galloping upstairs, and you can hear every footstep and every floorboard creek. At one point earlier tonight, I had to turn around to see if there was someone in the actual room because it sounded like they were right here. When we called to make the reservation, the woman said we could request a second floor when we got here. But why not honor our request when we're requesting it? Why defer us to the time of arrival, where we were told no as if we'd asked for a suite at the Waldorf. We paid $325 for one night, and it will be the last penny they'll ever see from us. I'm giving this establishment two stars because it's a little better than a motel in the middle of nowhere, in the desert, with Jeffrey Dhalmer in the next room. I mean, seriously. What's the point of having a "Lake Front" hotel, if all your guests want to do is jump in the lake and drown in misery!

When we arrived we were sat quickly but took a quick look into the basment/dungeon/bar area. It was cool down there but also had a nasty smell. I couldn't stand it and we returned to our table as fast as possible. Then when we went to drink the water they placed on the table we paused. It smelt of sulfur or rotten eggs or bleach. I couldn't tell. My wife took a sip and she was grossed out. I asked for bottled water when the waitress arrived. They brought us 3 Poland sprin bottles. The were cold but this is supposed fine dinning. Anyway we ordered 2 drinks from the bar and they were OK. Next we ordered our dinner. We each ordered a different thing. From there we waited and waited and waited....1hour and 20 minutes for our food to arrive. It was not worth the wait. For one me and my wife got the same looking dish. Again we all ordered something different. Befor I could say anything the waitress was gone. Not once asking "is everything the way you ordered?". Both our steaks were over cooked also! I was so turned off I lost my appetite and wanted to leave ASAP. Nobody came to the table for 20 minutes. I got up from the table and nobody was there. I had to go to the kitchen door to find someone to complain to. The brought a bill soon after. It still had my dinner on it that I didnt order. They did take off are drinks. So that was nice. I told them if anything I should be charged what I ordered which was like 10$ difference. They eventually did that for me. Overall I was not impressed and kinda disgusted. Its sad because its such a nice castle but just dont eat there. Or do but dont drink that water and be ready to wait a long time.

I go at least twice a year for the biannual psychic fair that they put on there with the Cherry Valley Psychics. The castle staff is very accommodating. They open up lunch for visitors during the fairs. I stayed late enough for dinner service the last time I went. They had the fire going. I was sat at my solo table near the fire, so I was able to enjoy the fire along with listening to random conversations as people passed by. I ordered an appetizer, and dinner. They have a seasonal menu, along with some regular menu items, like their meatloaf. There's something for everyone on the menu. Since it was springtime, fiddleheads were on the menu. I ordered the fiddlehead sauté, which was perfectly garlicky. Fiddlehead were nicely lightly sautéed so they still had a nice crisp crunch to them. It was a larger portion than I was expecting. I very much enjoyed the fiddleheads and actually ate them all. For my main entrée, I ordered Kinpira with blackened tofu, which was a departure from what I would typically order. This was a very interesting dish for me. It seemingly felt like two separate entrées together. Bean sprouts, burdock root, shredded carrots, mushrooms, blackened tofu and a nice sauce that they served on the side. I enjoyed this dish as well. All in all I love going to Beardslee Castle not just for the events, but definitely for the food and the atmosphere. And if you want somewhere just for a drink or two, they do have a bar in the dungeon. If you haven't been, you should really go.
