Turkey dinner
Deb B.

Stopped here on a bus trip. Service was quick and efficient and we were provided a buffet served by staff. It included mashed potatoes, Turkey and stuffing, cranberry sauce, a small salad d a beverage in a disposable cup. Afterwards, we were served a small warm apple cobbler. Food was okay and there was wine and beer if you wanted to purchase it. There was ample time to wander over to the very large store within the building which has on display many items from local vendors. Featured are local items like the Wizard of Oz themed Knick knacks, Herkimer T-shirts and keychains, etc., maple syrup, candies and jewelry. From the Grille you go onto the Erie Canal Cruise boat. The dock is outside the Grille so I imagine this is all under the same ownership. Fun day.

I called in an order to go.$70.00 plus change, for 2 small prime rib dinners. The prime rib was sliced so thin, it was unbelievable for the price I paid. Maybe because it was an order to go, they just don't care, or use what would be a left over bit. Extremely disappointed . Will NEVER RETURN.

What a find... This great little restaurant sitting along side the thruway is amazing to say the least. The hostess and service were over the top friendly and attentive and the does not take a back seat to the service!! The food was fresh, flavorful, and plentiful.. the only bad thing is we are from Rochester and not closer. But one thing for sure it will definitely be a must stop when ever we are out that way. Hats off to the staff and chefs. And a BIG thank you to young lady that squeezed with out a reservation

Crab salad sandwich

The service was great. Thanks, Sue! We had a great water view (made a reservation in advance, although it wasn't full on a Tuesday at lunch). They changed the haddock sandwich from the menu description, and my friend said it was delicious. I had the special wrap, crab meat wrap, and it was also delicious. We asked for the french fries well-done and they were crispy on the outside and hot on the inside. Perfect. We shared the apple pie for dessert which was homemade by the owner's wife, I think, and it was delicious. And I am a stickler when it comes to apple pie. If you're traveling through Herkimer I would recommend this place.

Stuffed ravioli, steak with mushrooms and baked potato (the one with cross contamination of sorts)

Good food and atmosphere but the person I was with got sick due to a hint of egg in the baked potato (cross contamination of sorts). Other than that it's a good place to eat.

Kids grill cheese... the fries were as long as my kid's face.

Awesome food. Fresh and done well. I would have preferred better service though but it's 'different' times... friendly enough but not outstanding.

My boyfriend and I came here for lunch on a road trip as recommended by New York Upstate. We had the meatball and haddock sandwiches. The meatballs were homemade on top garlic bread slices and smothered in sauce with a side of french fries, which were perfectly fried. The meatballs could have used more seasoning (salt and basil would be a good start). Overall, the sandwich was good. The fresh fried haddock fillet was larger than the roll. We ordered it with lettuce, but it also came with cheese and tartar sauce. Unlike the meatballs, the roll was deliciously seasoned with garlic butter, and the cheese tantalized my umami sense. The tartar sauce complemented the other flavors with a hint of tang. The side coleslaw was refreshing with low mayo but unremarkable. Dessert was the highlight. We ordered the Tartufo, an Italian gelato. Two gelato flavors, one was chocolate, with a cherry in the middle, covered by a chocolate shell, more chocolate syrup (likely Hershey's), and whipped cream. It was yummy! The dessert was definitely ordered from outside the restaurant, but was worth it. Service was slow, but our waitress was nice. She's the one who recommended the Tartufo, and she was right. Don't miss it! As a bonus the restaurant is located in the same building as a store with lots of New York souvenirs, such as local food products and soaps. When we went, there was a lot of Wizard of Oz paraphernalia because Frank Baum lived in the area and had close ties to the Mohawk Valley. One of the local stores was going out of business, so this store received much of its merchandise to sell, including lifelike statues of Wizard of Oz characters. They also offer cruises on the canal. Our favorite place to eat in Herkimer! Always consistently good. Rocky is the best, the menu is awesome and the ambiance is great.

Make sure you make reservations. Only have like 8 tables. But they fit us in. I chose chicken…read moreparm, it was $22.95, an extra $2 for spaghetti on the side . Ever hear of such a thing. But I purchased since no salad came with dinner. I received a spoon full for $2 . A box cost .88. We also purchased olives and cheese. Very salty. Was given free bread, very good Sauce was a sweet sauce. I personally do not like. But chicken parm was good. My husband ordered frog legs. He loved them but only got 4. I knew he was still hungry so I gave him the rest of my chicken parm. I was not taking home anyway. The ambiance was nice. The white curtains on main window with yellow water stains were not pleasant. Glad we tried the place but will not return.

This is regarding the owner's new Ristorante Maya on Seneca Turnpike in New Hartford. It was…read morerecommended we make reservations so we did for a Thursday evening. Food is quite good, but I think they are still working out a lot of kinks in managing the dining room. We arrived early but waited to go in until reservation time. Parking was not available so another patron had parked on the grass and we parked next to them. Once winter arrives, I think ppl will end up have to park down Seneca Turnpike and walk back. The paved area isn't sufficient for a full dining room. It is a very modest bar, and a small dining room. There were ppl in front of us who were walk-ins. They mentioned one staff member told them it would be 20 minutes and another said two hours for walk-in. We figured it wouldn't be long for our 2 person reservation. Hmmm. I don't think anyone in particular is greeting patrons or managing reservations. The wait staff seemed to be pitching in as they could. The walk-ins (in front of us in line) were seated at a 2 person booth 20 minutes after our reservation. We objected as the other part of my party had been seated on a Saturday evening, very close to reservation time. The staff member said the walk-ins were waiting longer than those with reservations. As they should. We were seated after an hour past reservation time. Larger parties were seated on time after us, they had reservations 30 min after ours. Those tables had previously been pushed together for a party earlier, and staff didn't separate them for smaller parties that had earlier reservations. We were seated at a small table in front of the kitchen door. Food was quite good. We ordered wine as we arrived to the table as well as the meatball appetizer. Eventually someone stopped with menus. We ordered when someone else stopped at the table. About 50 min later, the entrees arrived. We did get our water glasses refilled. I had ordered haddock and it was fresh and very good. My friend ordered a fresh pasta dish, which was good, although not exactly as they ordered it. During our last hour there, (the owner) Christian Maya's father stopped to speak to us and he had checked in with us a couple times after the entrees were delivered. We really appreciated that attentiveness. So I took a star off for the reservation issues. I took a star off for gaps in service. I'm sure they will be able to improve on these things. For now, I recommend that you wait to go there unless you don't mind a considerable wait for a reservation.
