absolutely wonderful experience- everything on the menu is house made, char broiled items are phenomenal. there's an experience on each level of the restaurant, with the dungeon being casual and the first floor being fine dining. we even saw the herbs, lettuce, and tomatoes being grown in the back! as a chef the commitment is something i really value! 10000000/10. best restaurant i've been to that ranks high in all the sectors- decor, food, experience, seasonality, architecture- they have it all. lovely to choose here as the first spot we hit for vacation! also tiramisu is CRAZY GOOD!

May 2025 Wedding, Flowers by Mohican Flowers, Photos by Erin Covey Creative, dessert by Desserts Beyond the Ordinary Having our wedding at Beardslee was one of the first decisions my husband and I made when we started planning. Working with Lynn was so easy and she answered all our questions and was always really quick to respond. She made the entire planning process so simple and stress-free. We originally planned an outdoor ceremony but had to switch at the last minute to inside and Lynn and her staff were so flexible in making the switch and even set up the dining room for photos, moved all the tables for the ceremony, and then replaced all the tables. They were all so accommodating and kind. We did not rent the entire Castle, but did have the getting room for the whole day and that was super helpful. We also opted in for getting ready snacks and they were amazing. The hors d'oeuvres were outstanding and my guests are still telling me how good the food was a week later. If food is important to you, this is the place for your wedding. All in all, my husband and I couldn't have been happier and loved the entire experience of working with Lynn and having our wedding at Beardslee. Truly a perfect day.

The service was wonderful but the the food was mediocre at best, a part from the appetizers which were delicious. Both mine and my wife's meals were grossly overcooked. I ordered a medium rare filet and my wife ordered a red snapper. Both came from the kitchen tough. This place had a murder mystery in the works, and my guess is that the kitchen was much too busy to pay attention to the "restaurant's quality standards. On the whole, this was a very disappointing meal for the money paid.

I've been there a few times, this time I talked my wife and Fellow Yelper Diane M. and her husband to join us. I'm certain that she will give her feedback when she gets around to writing a review. As for us, I started with the fried Calamari and my wife had the 3 cheese baked onion soup. I enjoyed the Calamari, it wasn't rubbery when you ate it. The onion soup was a hit also. For dinner I had the Stuffed Veal which was stuffed with a combination of crab & shrimp. The flavors were really good, veal was tender and flavorful. My wife's Strip Steak was cooked to perfection with green beans on top. We all had desert, yes.... Save room for desert, it was sooo good. The service was a 10, atmosphere was excellent, but no ghosts decided to join us. Yes they claim that are ghosts residing at the castle. You can tour the castle, see all the beautiful rooms and go down stairs to the Dungeon where the bar is located. For any tall people, just be careful of the arches downstairs! They also host Weddings etc upstairs if you like. When we left, the outside was lit up with some purple lights which made the place look good. I highly recommend Beardslee Castle for a unique dining experience.

Wow. What a great night. Went out for dinner with great friends. Got all dressed up and had dinner reservations. Was seated immediately. Absolutely beautiful. If I had anything negative to say I would just have to say while sitting waiting for our dinner, I was drawn to these paintings/art that was hanging from I guess a local artist. They did not go with the decor of the castle. It actually took away from the feel of this gorgeous castle. It through me off. Maybe display the art in a different room. I couldn't help but feel confused about it. It just didn't go. Like having a gorgeous Victorian room with a modern rug. Ruined the flow. Dining in a elegant room, seeing everyone dressed up, no TV on just great conversation. So enjoyable. The service was fantastic. The food was very good ! I had the rack of lamb rare. Cooked perfectly. My husband had the steak. Again. Cooked to perfection. I ordered the garlic potatoes. Sides were a shareable size. All and all a beautiful night. Can't wait to go back !!!

Absolutely 1st class! My wonderful wife brought me here for my birthday. A picturesque Victorian folly from the Mid 19th Century, now a restaurant with banqueting facilities. You can walk all around, see the dungeon (bar and restaurant) or the big space at the top for functions. The food was really 5*. We started with a Bruschetta, topped with a medley of mushrooms and herbs and garnished with balsamic. I opted for the Angus strip with caramelised onions and Bearnaise sauce whilst my wife had the Ravioli with assorted mushrooms. Both dishes were superb. All the food is sourced locally. Dessert was an outrageous Banana, flambeed in Brandy with banana bread, caramel sauce and ice cream + whipped cream. Totally decadent.

Recorded message said there were no reservations available, but leave a number and they would call back. We ended up calling back the next day and they were confused by their own recorded message and had plenty of openings available. Our party of 5 arrived at 6:50 for a 7:30 reservation so we could have a drink in the Dungeon Bar. Not a single bartender ( 3 of them) greeted us, actively ignored us and the 2 women who arrived ahead of us said it's been that way for quite awhile as they hadn't been able to place an order yet either. The Bar tender who did eventually take our order, after we requested a wine menu, was completely unfamiliar with the wines. We were seated on time since the entire restaurant was at maybe 20% capacity. The waitress who served us was pleasant but unfamiliar with the menu including not knowing what soft drinks were available (we had a DD). She could not answer any questions about the food, did not offer any salad dressing choices, no fresh pepper for the steak, no parmesan for the pasta dishes when they were served. Just really not accommodating at all. The food took an uncommonly long time to prepare and was pretty mediocre. Pasta was underdone (much more firm than al dente), the BBQ Eel did not taste fresh, the filet mignon had not a hint of salt or pepper and the bark was underdeveloped. The poor service we chalked up to a lack of training. People fail, systems don't. Maybe it's the only game in town so they fall short of needing to provide a good experience? The Castle is a great spot for Instagram worthy pics but does not deliver on a dining experience.

I was surprised for my birthday with a mystery dinner show here. It was a Friday night and the place was full. We were early so they directed us to their "Dungeon " bar. It was a fantastic area with all the ambiance of well a castle dungeon. It was being set up for a wedding rehearsal dinner. The side yard also had white chairs set up for what I guess would be where vows would be taken. Later, we wished the mystery dinner was held in the dungeon as it would have been the better setting. They have a restaurant on the main floor that looked very inviting and the food smelled really good as we walked thru. The mystery dinner was held upstairs in a very plain white and stark room. Many arched windows and a very plain banquet room feel. There were empty fireplaces , a bar and restrooms. The company who puts on the show was the Acme Theater group. Our party of 4 was seated at one of the first tables and another party of 4 were our table mates. It was the first mystery dinner that any of us had attended. Other dinner guests were going around picking up the clue sheets on the tables and copying them so we got the hint that we should as well. They had a very small plate of what we later learned was hummus and an olive tapenade. Bread and rolls were brought later. First course was a nice looking salad but with a very bland dressing. The show commenced and maybe an hour later dinner was served family style. By the way all drinks including soda with the exception for horrid tasting water were purchased at the bar. Our entrees were a fried chicken breast with a Parmesan basil sauce, thin sliced roast beef, mixed pasta dish with veggies and sides of mashed potatoes and rice. The food was very good and we were told to ask for more if we wanted. Service was great. The show continued and a dessert of flourless chocolate cake was served. Coffee??? Apparently the coffee was in the bar area but not one server told us that! It kind of ruined dessert with nothing to wash down the rich cake. All in all it was a fun experience, food was good, the room was a disappointment being in a castle and all. And coffee not served was a bust. Upon leaving many people were yawing a door to go out back way, came to realize we were all walking on the roof to very shaky steps to exit. I am guessing handicap entrance as one side had a ramp. The castle was pretty all lit up at night. The empty pond could be cleaned thou. Say hi to the Mummy in the dungeon restroom area.!
A wonderful place we have going to for years and you can't beat the ambiance. They used to have the history of the castle on the menu and wish they would bring that back. Everyone enjoyed their meals, done to perfection. I had the scallop, shrimp and pasta dish and what I think is some of the best French onion soup I've ever had. Very attentive service and make sure to get there early to enjoy a drink in the basement. Areas of improvement: it didn't mention anywhere on the menu that a salad was included with your meals. We ordered a bunch of apps, to include salad and wish someone told us. The drinks- biggest area of improvement, there was little to no alcohol in a few people's drink. Please get rid of the "Relax" rosè wine it is so sweet and something better should be offered. However, very generous pours on the wine. There was also a murder mystery dinner party going on and would love to come back for that. All around great place to have dinner and take a step back in time. read more
Fancy Fancy. We got invited here by some friends. Thoughts right out of the gate... I was out of my element. After seeing bud on the menu, I was all set. Great atmosphere with all kinds of history everywhere. Service was top notch and food was excellent. Grapes were very small but really packed flavor. Incredible place really. It does show on your bill that you were here for sure but if you can, you should. read more

This is such a cool place. We sat in the Dungeon which has a large bar and seating all around it. Service was a bit rough at first, but our eventual waitress was very kind. They had a lot of people even for a Friday night, and yet our food came out quickly. We got the jalapeño poppers, poutine, and the best pasta. The star of the show show was the jalapeño poppers which came with a delicious dipping sauce. The poutine should have had more gravy and was oddly very salty. Not bad, but I consider myself a poutine connoisseur. The pasta was decent, a bit watery, but decent. The atmosphere is what saves this place, it's so cool and I would definitely go back for a drink or an event. read more
We were a bit disappointed in our meal here. The paintings and pictures on the wall didn't seem to match what you would think you would see at a castle. The food was underwhelming at best. Nice to stop here once, but would be challenged to recommend to others. read more

While the salad was good, the duck slices were few and far between. No other vegetable was provided either, although the much cheaper and larger meat loaf plates go a full meal! The prices were far too high and the food was sub-minimal. Ambience consisted of a large stone former house contrived to look like a "castle." read more

I had a lovely meal at Beardslee Castle with family. The seafood dishes were the standout items. Some of the steaks family members had were cooked more than expected. The ambiance is outstanding. Everywhere you look is something old and wonderful and the service was good. read more

Went to the castle as a trial run for an upcoming wedding and reception. I'm glad we took the time to give it a test run. The venue is beautiful, and the benefits stop there. I highly recommend removing this place from your list of places to try or visit. The food was average to poor, which was sad for a place that claims to be 'fine dining'. Most meals were bland or had odd textures. Some just tasted old or past the expiration date. The service was argumentative and challenging. They questioned and defended and did not seek to understand. They were rude and condescending. They do not want to hear about their customer's opinion or experience. They all compare notes and blame their customers rather than trying to provide a good experience and product to their guests. This place is sadly resting on the uniqueness of the venue. The culture of the management and servers is deplorable, threatening, and disrespectful. I couldn't have imagined having such a poor experience for my wedding reception. They showed their true colors, and we will happily take our money to a venue that appreciates our business. read more

Beardslee Castle is a perfect example of what it looks like to be tilting at fine dining. Everything is overdone including the steak. The onion soup was a thyme delivery system on a base of what tasted like overly salted beef bouillon cube stock. The puff pastry (which in and of itself wasn't bad) was nestled adjacent to rock-hard peaches (or nectarines...who could tell? Some sort of stone fruit) and slivers of fig on a mustard drizzle. I have to say that again, because it's so funny: on a mustard drizzle; and not quality mustard, but that bright yellow generic mustard that comes in a squeeze bottle. The steak itself was of decent quality and was tender despite not being properly cooked to temp (I asked for medium rare but got medium - in and of itself a forgivable sin). Both of our plates were lukewarm so it's possible that the steak was on the upper end of medium rare when it came off the line but overcooked while it died in the window. The presentation had all the telltale signs of the kind of culinary inexperience that throws everything but the kitchen sink at... Everything! This is possibly in response to the Yelp reviews saying the food was bland. There is no reason to wrap a good cut of filet mignon in bacon unless you're trying to obfuscate. There is no need to top a good cut of filet mignon with some form of stewed tomatoes. And the demi-glace or red wine reduction, if it is necessary in the first place, should be ancillary to the steak - not dominate all of the flavors. Everything smacks of a chef trying to punch outside of his/her weight class. Trust you product (which is easier to do when the steak is Prime rather than Choice). Let it stand alone. The only thing I could taste was the demi-glace, which was a shame. Also, it would be a good idea to have salads on the menu with descriptions. The side-salad served was drenched in dressing, covered in dried cranberries (which my wife had to pick out) and plated on dessert saucers rather than bowls, which made it difficult not to drop wet lettuce on the table cloth. The wine list had a feel of a bric-a-brac store. There seemed to be no unifying principle, and the pricing was generally steep and didn't follow a progression within each section. It might be a good idea for them to look up the wine lists in reputable places in NYC and California and do some plagiarism until a seasoned beverage manager can be found. The bar downstairs (in the "dungeon") is delightful, but smelly and riddled with fruit flies. I think that the location is possibly situated over a sulfur deposit which makes dealing with that problem difficult if not impossible. I'd suggest getting away from those generic bright red maraschino ghetto-cherries and replacing them with Luxardo or Fabbri cherries more emblematic of a fine dining environment. It's also a good idea for the bartender to spill pour the Old Fashioned, or at least stir it so that the simple syrup on the bottom blends with the rest of the drink rather than staying at the bottom. This might have just been an oversight. The bartender was very nice and mistakes happen, so no big deal. All in all, we will not be returning to this place. It's too far of a distance to travel for something mediocre. To be fair, not knowing things is just a stepping stone to growth. I don't blame the chef or the cooks for inexperience; I blame the environment. Not enough is done to promote a real culture of food in upstate NY. The general economic malaise and lack of governmental investment in the state has consequences - chief among them is that people with talent are forced to seek out environments that promote and support that talent - usually in big cities. However, to call one's self "fine dining" while lacking the tools necessary to make the dining fine is problematic. Ownership would have to invest a lot of time and money educating and creating their chefs, just to watch that investment leave and go somewhere like NYC to advance. Its a vicious cycle, and I'm not sure there is an available solution. Maybe a talented chef should be incentivized with an ownership stake? Beardlee is a pretty environment begging for elevation. We saw no managers anywhere (although I wouldn't be surprised to learn that the manager was waiting on tables) and we felt that absence. The music was decent, but the volume inconsistent and generally too loud for the level of business present. We were seated adjacent to tables that weren't cleared or reset for future business. The lighting on the building changed colors - something more appropriate for a club than an austere and classical structure such as this. Just use solid amber lighting. It looks better. And if there is talented front-of-house management available, let them manage or risk looking like what things looked like when we went - chaotic and unprofessional. read more

I don't even know where to start with this review. We were not greeted at the door until (10 minutes) after arrival to tell us where are table was located. We then proceeded to our table where our drink orders were taken along with appetizers and entrees. Food- The appetizers were okay but nothing special, however if we had only knew the appetizers would be better than our mains. The entrees were either cold, overcooked, or just bland, really doesn't even scratch the surface of a fine dining establishment that they are trying to pass off. Service- Keep in mind it wasn't a super busy night at the castle. Service is slow to a snails pace at times as we waited almost 30 mins for a few beers and wines to get brought to our table. After waiting for our drinks it was an additional 30-45 mins for our appetizer to appear. Then an additional 45 mins to an hour for our mains to arrive. Once again most food was mediocre and felt dated. Bland watery sauce on a pasta dish I don't understand how they expect you to eat watery pasta with a fork! Other entrees were cold while others were overcooked like a filet, shrimp, and tuna that was stated by the staff to be rare to medium but was grey and well overdone. When we brought some of the issues to the waitress she then decided to Goff at the concerns and walk away. They then came out asking if they could remake the tuna and steak but waiting over a hour at almost 9pm is a little ridiculous so people declined and were kind of over it. When we then were met with another snarky comment from a waitress about the wait times. At this point we searched out the manager as this was the rudest restaurant experience I have ever had as well as our party members. Management- Is awful! We asked to speak to the manager to voice our concerns about the entrees and staff. They were then defended by her stating that the tuna was meant to be medium rare even though it was over well done and inedible as well as support a staff that was just rude to our whole party. You would think as a manager you would try to make our visit right by apologizing instead of making up every excuse in the book. We were also told I have 30 years of experience as a manager which had nothing to do with the situation at all. Almost as if she wanted a pat on the back or a plaque on the wall. She is just very defensive about all the shortcomings of the establishment especially for the price you are paying. Overall- Will never return to the castle for a fine dining experience as they call it which was comparable to any chain restaurant to be fair. Save your time, money and stay away. read more

I couldn't recommend the Beardslee Castle enough. My wife and I recently had our wedding and rehearsal dinner at Beardslee Castle. Our wedding was completely vegan, and we had a few guests who required gluten-free accommodations due to allergies. The food was phenomenal and the service made the wedding and the planning a lot easier and Lyn was able to provide help with anything we needed or were looking to do. The site grounds are beautiful, inside and out, and went beyond our expectations. read more

This spot is a hidden treasure. The food is amazing and elegant. The dress code is business casual. My only complaint is the wait on our food. But overall was a great experience. I really can't give this establishment enough praise, both the service and the food were nothing short of perfect. I can't reason why this place has only 3 1/2 stars, because I can find nothing off with the meal we had. The French onion soup was quite literally the best my boyfriend and I have ever had, and the fried calamari was perfectly breaded and fried. My steak and my boyfriends rack of lamb were cooked to a perfect medium rare as we ordered, and the accompanying sides were equally delicious. And as I'm sure you've guessed at this point, the desserts were also immaculate. The banana madness specifically was out of this world. Trying to explain the quality of this meal has me lost for words. If I could rate The Beardslee Castle any higher I absolutely would. If you're reading this review, and contemplating eating here, let me assure you that you absolutely need to dine here at least once. We will certainly be returning, and highly recommending our friends & family to visit here! read more

Wow star because you have to rate it. So just left a birthday dinner that had 14 people attend. From the moment we arrived it was rough we were sat in the dungeon and the seating was not appropriate for the 14 guests in our party it was uncomfortable and we really couldn't sit together. We were given menus from the bar and restaurant upstairs to order from. We had 3 different servers which was confusing. But we all ordered and when the food arrived well it was hit and miss. Some food was good and some of the meals were quite tasteless and bland. Unfortunately our servers were busy and not as attentive as they should have been so when one of the servers finally came in to check we told her about the meals. She said oh I'll go upstairs and tell them. Well 30 minutes later Noone had come back. So when a different server came back we mentioned it to her. She immediately got defensive and said you never told me. We replied that we had told a different waitress and she never came back. She asked if I wanted something else I said no its been over an hour. She offered dessert. Several in our party ordered desserts. They sent out one bill and said we just separate it when we pay, so When we went to pay and told our first waitress what we ordered She asked which dessert I replied that it was free. At that point she got nasty and said nope the chef said your paying for it I said well the manager said it was free. She then told us to just pay the F**cking bill. I said I don't need this and walked back towards the rest of our party She followed me screaming at me called me a fu**ing Asshole in front of the entire bar. And the called me a bitch. At this point our whole party was quite upset and we really just wanted yo pay our bill and leave. A man then stepped in to where we were and started talking to us I said who are you thinking maybe a manager or owner coming to apologize. He said who are you?? A few others in our party asked what he wanted he said I'm just a guest and walked away. We then paid our bills which was confusing and took quite some time and as we were doing so same man started giving another guest in our party a hard time. He was the owner and was not there to apologize or see what had happened.he was yelling at one of the gentleman in our party telling us to get out. At this point a customer a regular we think got in my face his whole body forcing me back and when I was up against the wall I told him to get away he pushed out his chest and was in my space I pushed him away. The owner not once tried to calmly speak to any of us to see what transpired. He had no issues with his server screaming obscenities to customers and other customers physically imposing themselves in my face. We will NEVER go back to this establishment. I would be very careful before you consider this place. MOST HORRIBLE SERVICE WE HAVE HAD WE WILL NEVER RETURN. ALL 14 PEOPLE IN OUR PARTY WERE FLOORED AND SCHOCKED BY THE OWNER RANDALLS TREATMENT OF US AND HIS CONDESCENDING ATTITUDE. Recap. 1 terrible service + 2 medicore food + 3. Overpriced + 4. Inattentive non caring owners = 14 unsatisfied customers who will share this negative experience with others. read more

We so looked forward to going to Beardslee Castle tonight. We had been there in August with Barbara Sweetwood and it was fantastic! We loved the atmosphere and the food was just tremendous. We decided to go there for Joan's birthday as well as Becca's birthday. We had reservations for 5:30. We got there at approximately 5:32, we weren't seated until about 5:40 when we ordered our first drinks. The first waitress came over and said that she would bring over some bread for us. About 20 minutes later the second waitress came over and said that she was going to bring over some bread for us. By now we have been seated for approximately 20 minutes and nobody had any drinks. Joan and Dena ordered prosecco and a glass of wine respectively. Becca ordered a white claw. The girl then told her that they did not have any white claw even though it was on the menu. I ordered a chocolate stout beer. The waitress came over 15 minutes later, now it had been 35 minutes and said they did not have any chocolate stout beer. I ordered something else and it took another 15 minutes to get that. Now I have been there almost an hour without a drink. The bread finally came out. By then we are all starving. They took our order, I ordered the pork with Walnut encrusted pork which I had last time and I talked Joan into getting it as well. Both girls ordered a filet. Dena ordered her's well done and Becca ordered her's medium-rare. When the steaks came out, Dena's was little too rare and Becca's was totally raw. They both needed to go back and we're immediately placed in the microwave. And they came out looking like they were placed in the microwave. I would say that's exactly what happened. Btw, it is now after 8PM and we had been here for 2 1/2 hours and it is not a full house. Joan did not like her dinner at all. Her first bite was a big piece of fat that was on the pork. It was a big thick piece. It was nothing like I received in August. Mine was okay it wasn't anything close to what I got before. I normally do not complain the reason I don't complain is because I was in retail for a lot of years and had to take care of complaints. I know most people are looking for something, I wasn't looking for anything I was just going to tell them that I was very disappointed and not only the service, the wait time, and the quality of the food which wasn't even close to what we received in August. I said something to the waitress about it and I said I would like to talk to the manager. She said I will go get Randy he is the chef as well as the owner. That's all he wanted to do was argue with me and prove me wrong. I told him I didn't want anything, I just wanted to tell him how displeased we were. He defend himself and said it wasn't his fault that the beer came out late, and it wasn't his fault for any other reason and the recipes are the same as what we had in August. He wanted to argue and he wanted to tell me how wonderful he was. As far as I'm concerned he is an idiot and he will never receive any more of my money again. I will never go back there again and I will not recommend it to anybody. I've never dealt with a bigger idiot than Randy in my life and that's saying a lot because I delt with a lot idiots before. Don't ever go to Beardslee Castle if you do don't complain to the owner because he is an idiot and does not deserve your money. He will argue with you. read more
I was really excited to try this place as I've seen so many beautiful pictures online. The castle itself is beautiful. It seems like a combination of old architecture with modern touches. There is a garden to the side, and a fountain on the front, but the grounds itself does not seem very large. The food was not too bad, although it seemed like it lacked small touches to make it special. It's the experience and ambience that makes it worth it though. If you are looking for a quick meal, I would reconsider coming again when you're less busy. Dinner starts at 4 pm and ends at 8 pm on a Sunday so they tend to serve the food at a really slow pace. It took them a little over an hour to bring our sirloin steak, and duck, even though we had our appetizer cleaned out way before that. I was really excited to go to the dungeon too and the bar, but both were smaller than I had expected. I had mixed feelings right after dining here (last Sunday) but now not so much. It's worth experiencing at least once. read more

Great food. A unique location with a menu created by a chef not a food distributor. Every item order was very tasty.

Excellent food, excellent service, and a gorgeous and unique setting in the middle of nowhere....well, nowhere between Little Falls and St. Johnsville. The grounds and flowers are beautiful. Menu apparently changes daily and there's a wide selection of beers and wines. This place is a diamond in the rough! One small criticism? My dinner was tasty, unique, and plentiful, but only lukewarm when it arrived. Overall, a terrific evening. I'll certainly return. read more

The staff are very friendly and the castle is beautiful. The chef /owner not only can't cook a steak but came out and was completely unprofessional. I offered to pay for the wine so I could tip his waitress and he said in front of her "she refuses your tip" I ended up giving her a business card so I could Venmo her later. She was near tears. Do not support trash like this. read more

Joseph Michael, we waited for your review and you did not disappoint,…
For my birthday and my 100th review, I decided to go to Beardslee Castle. I first heard about this place, oddly enough, through the show Ghost Hunters. As it turns out, the Ghost Hunters team didn't find any paranormal activity there. I was on the hunt for a good meal, not ghosts, so I've been dying to give it a shot. It did not let us down, although at first I was concerned. It was odd that we did not get a wine list when we were seated. The waitress assumed we would want to order from the small selection of wine by the glass printed on their normal menu. Also, we wanted to start with a Gouda appetizer that they had run out of, so we went for the fried ravioli instead, which had a few areas for improvement. The use of pine nuts is a bit superfluous. They should consider mixing a pesto in with the ricotta and then the pine nuts would have made a bit more sense. In general it didn't pack a lot of flavor. That being said, I thought everything else was fantastic. Our waitress was very eager to get things out to us promptly. Their wine list is very good and is reasonably priced. My entree, the strawberry chicken, was one of the most creative dishes I've seen in a while. Strawberries, lightly sauteed onions and melted brie over chicken breast with a side of wild rice and vegetables. The chicken was very moist. The only thing I would recommend is switching out apricots instead of strawberries. Apricots tend to hold up against other powerful flavors, whereas hot fresh strawberries can get a bit muted. Still very good. My husband got the lamb and was very happy with it. I thought the small dollop of sweet potatoes on top of the mashed potatoes was a really nice touch. The sweet potatoes were so creamy that they were almost like butter on top of the potatoes. Very nice. We ended the night with the banana madness. This was truly madness. For all of its complexity, I don't think the English language contains the right words to describe how good this thing is. If bananas foster and banana bread had a torrid love affair, the result would be banana madness. Amazing. Even though I was full I could not help but finish off the very generous portion of dessert we shared. It's also worth noting that they must have a problem with customers complaining about the amount of time food takes to come out. Our waitress constantly apologized for the wait. Honestly, we did not feel like we waited a long time for any of our food. I'd say things were timed perfectly. We didn't feel rushed but we didn't get hungry between courses. I'd say that's pretty successful timing. They were so paranoid about this, in fact, that they took our dessert off the bill as an apology. I promise, we did not complain or look impatient at any point. I was truly perplexed. Even though Beardslee is over an hour away, I would definitely come back. It's a nice drive and worth the time and gas it takes to get there! read more

Gorgeous castle for a romantic dinner. Prior to dinner we went to the bar in the basement called the dungeon because it really is one and enjoyed a pint of bee nectar cider. The setting was really nice with stone walls and a long copper bar. One of the tables was actually even in a dungeon cell! We then went upstairs and shared bay scallops in creamy sauce with fresh baked bread for appetizer which was delicious. My husband had bacon wrapped steak on bed of sauteed mushrooms and I had pan seared Asian sea bass with mango salsa and Asian noodles both were excellent. Definitely a great place to go for a upscale dinner for a reasonable price with a beautiful setting. read more
I've been wanting to go here for a few years now but something always came up. We finally made it yesterday and it was a beautiful day for a drive to an amazing restaurant. The pictures online don't do it justice, but I was in aw waking and sitting that I just forgot to take some. The grounds are beautiful and inside everything is true to what you would expect in a castle. Stone walls and dark wood accents. The tables were spread apart so you could have a conversation and not hear someone else's. We ate in main dining room but there is a top floor where a wedding was set up and the couple were outside taking photos in the beautiful landscaping. They have a dungeon area below where you could sit at the bar and have food from bar menu or regular restaurant menu. It was so cool they had a room that fit a table of 6 that was by itself and had a gate that opened into it. The wine list for glasses was about 6 choices, but their bottle menu was at least 100 or more. They ranged from 35 and up from all over. They have about 6 beers on tap and 150 bottles from lager to darks. I ordered the sesame crusted tuna served with a carrot slaw. The fish by itself was kinda bland but if I mixed it with carrot slaw it was good. My husband had a stuffed veal that was really good. They have about 10 appetizers, (we tried calamari) not bad, and about 15 main dishes. They served warm breads with hummus and olive spread.. yum! Our salads were also good and had an orange type dressing. Short story long.. it was well worth the 1.5 hour drive on a beautiful day! For an appetizer, 2 main dishes, 2 glasses of wine and 2 bottles of beer with tip was $110.00 read more

Walking into Beardslee Castle for the first time on Friday evening blew me away. It was snowing outside and just set the entire mood for the night. Completely romantic and beauty and the beast-ish. We were NOT greeted at the entryway. The hostess was no where to be found. After standing in the lobby for 10 minutes a server asked us if we needed help. We made reservations a week prior but it seemed as if she was surprised when we told her. We asked if we able to go to the Dungeon for a drink before being seated and the server (older woman with short blonde hair) looked at her watch, sighs and says, "I guess?" Then proceeded to walk away from us. We found our way to the bar on our own and sat there for an additional 10 minutes before the bartender even acknowledged us. We ordered a few glasses of Barefoot Moscato (most excellent) and then the bartender advised us to go upstairs before they stopped serving. So we gathered our wine glasses and went up. We were seated at an elegantly dressed table with a lit taper candle. It was lovely. Our server brought out a small basket of bread, completely mispronounced the kind of bread and then stalked off without asking if we wanted any other drinks except water. I had to say, excuse me....and get her attention to even order another glass of wine. We sat for a good 25 minutes before she even seemed ready to take our entree orders. We ordered our appetizer and entrees. While my companion and I were enjoying our app, the server stood over us and stared at our plate while we were eating. No exaggeration, she stared at it for a solid 2 minutes before asking if she could clear it. Lmao! When our food came out, we were blown away! The plating was beautiful and well presented, our steaks were cooked to the correct temp, the duck was beautiful and shiny. Everything was well seasoned and tasty. One of our dishes however was tragic. The pork loin was dry and bland. Note to the house chef; a little salt goes far and taste your food before it gets sent off the line. The purple mash was thick and pasty. When the server asked if the dishes were ok, we told her about the pork and she replied with, "oh." So in return for the poor pork they offered a slice of cheesecake, to go. The whole experience felt rushed and very very unwelcome. I understand an 8pm reservation may be late but at the end of the day, were still paying the high high prices for the same food and should be treated as such. I'm very turned off by the lack of service this beautiful establishment has. With such a breath taking atmosphere I suppose I expected more then lackluster service. The waitress at my local Friendlys has more charisma and knowledge of hospitality then this place. The pork was still on the check at the end of the night even though one bite was taken...and in return we received what seemed to be scrapings off the bottom of a cheesecake pan. I'll attach photos of my beautiful strip steak as well as the horrid cheesecake debacle. Here's a tip for the owner... hire some wait staff immediately and train them properly!! read more

Beardslee Castle was a sanctuary for us while our campsite was being pummeled by rain. An unfortunate situation for sure. Although, I was so glad to have a nice place to share a drink with my bf despite our awful camping getup (read: I was wearing a dress and rainboots... my sandals were whisked away in the creek). Since we were not wearing appropriate attire, they sent us to The Dungeon. And, there I gladly went. We sat down at the bar, with a view of band stickers lining the walls, creepy skeletons and trolls perched on the shelves. This was the right place for us. We grabbed drinks and decided to have a lapse in our lets-only-cook-over-the-fire weekend ordering a dozen buffalo chicken wings. For a moment we stepped back into reality. It was a fun place, great people, and lots of ghosts hanging around. It was definitely an eerie spot to have a drink. You really are in a basement, it's dungeon-like, including a terrifying room for a table of 6 with no windows and wrought-iron gate as a door. I walked in there and felt the spirits, if you know what I mean. The schtick is hilarious, fun, and adds to the experience. If you're in town or just passing through it's worth a stop in. The castle is beautiful as are the grounds (they host weddings there too). read more

Don't know how anyone could give this Mohawk Valley icon less than 5 stars, though I suppose all restaurants have an occasional off night. Nice place to look at, Worst place to get married at. Got re-married July 19th 2020. Rude. Unorganized. unprofessional. Brides plate was DIRTY. Pepsi was gross. Keg beer was warm. cleaning crew came up an hour before the end to clean. took food out from under people while eating. Threw away anything that was extra food left on the tables instead of asking to box up the food. Charged me a room fee because of covid 19 not allowing me to have over 150 people to not have a room fee. Rushed us out right at 8pm. Cleaning crew just threw my stuff on a table ( Literally in front of me) ignored people when they talked. Drinks from the bar were made completely wrong, too strong or not strong enough. locked up the dungeon and moved the guys things upstairs even though they told them they could keep everything down there until the end. The list goes on! DONT add to the stress of a wedding I would pick another venue. read more

The castle is a beautiful place for pictures and my daughter was able to have 2 weddings during the covid which was nice The first wedding we were allowed to have 10 ppl but we're told if we had to use the restroom we would have to go behind a tree which I thought was alittle rude but ok we have covid going on When her 2nd wedding day came they lost her papers for everything she wanted was trying to add on to the price Added a room fee because of covid we were only allowed up to 110 ppl. Ok but did not think that was right but that was in the contract. She was told that she would be charged extra for getting ready there so she also paid that cause if not she would have an hour and half to get ready. We all had to wear masks unless we were sitting in a chair ok again the covid and it is the governor So we get to the wedding very nice Then we finish the wedding get up stairs the bar is open for 4 hours but it started when the weffingwas suppose to start no one can drink for the first hour cause we were late so it gets dropped to 3 hours Ok no apperitzers so ppl are hungry and drinking and it's hot Food comes the bride and groom are talking to guest and then finally get to the head table brides plate is dirty and no food so we have the groom some from our table bride didn't want anything after finding a dirty plate The servers were taking the food off the table when ppl were still eating and dumping it into the garbage Drinks were disappearingcause you couldn't walk around with drinks again cause of covid so they thought you didn't want it any more and that was happen all nite even after when you had to start paying Servers were rude about pulling up the masks if you were standing The dance floor is small and if there was a few ppl,on the dance floor they would cut in between to make sure they were 6 ft apart The end of the night for clean up they were throwing the stuff on one table and the bride said dont throw my stuff before you break it and the one server rolled her eyes and walked away And the bride and groom also had a photo booth and the servers thought it would be ok to use it before anyone else withput permission Againthis was a time with covid witch didn't help the stress but all this made it worse read more

History
Established in 1994.
Built in 1860 as the palatial home of Judge Augustus Beardslee, the Castle was constructed by Irish stonemasons of local limestone in the style of an Irish estate. It remained a private residence until 1944 when it became a restaurant known then as "The Manor". A fire in 1989 destroyed the ktichen areas but left the grandeur of the architecture intact to be restored by the current owners. With over 50 years of history as a showpiece Mohawk Valley restaurant and now celebrating 20 years as 'Beardslee Castle', the Castle has become known far and wide as a must-see destination, a fabulous dining experience and landmark 19th century historic Mohawk Valley site. Oh, and we're haunted too!

We don't get here as often as we should. Def have to change that. They have shorter hours in the winter. Last week we had another amazing night at the Beardslee! Enjoyed a drink by the massive fireplace when we arrived. it was busy but it's never a loud restaurant, suprising given all the stonework. The place is gorgeous inside and out and they seem to keep it up very nicely. We're always noticing something new. Service is professional, friendly and attentive. I've seen many of the same staff for years so they have service down to a science. I had a delicious duck confit crepe with grilled leeks, wife had fried brussel sprouts with pancetta nd walnuts (both amazing). Grilled meats are a must here, wood fired. I had rack of lamb, done to perfection and wife had a pleasantly light spring artichoke pasta with peas, cauliflower garlic sauce. They have a very extensive wine list and we opted for a pinot noir from Kistler that blew us away. Had to try the cannoli napoleon for dessert, wow! We left stuffed but very happy, can't wait to return! People should know what a gem they have right here in the valley! read more

As you can see this place is a hit or miss with the food. For us it was by far a miss. The service is always terrible and yes the water is nasty OH but if you would like you can BUY a bottle of water . How nice of them. I guess most people who like this place are mostly locals and there is not much around to compare it to is my only guess. The place is filthy and who ever responds to the reviews is very sarcastic and rude. Not very professional on there part. It just shows how they do not take the reviews seriously and they should. This place would be fantastic if they had someone who would clean it, do a bunch of upgrades and fire most of the servers . My advice do not bother if you are hungry and if you do not have all night to wait for cold food. read more
