absolutely wonderful experience- everything on the menu is house made, char broiled items are phenomenal. there's an experience on each level of the restaurant, with the dungeon being casual and the first floor being fine dining. we even saw the herbs, lettuce, and tomatoes being grown in the back! as a chef the commitment is something i really value! 10000000/10. best restaurant i've been to that ranks high in all the sectors- decor, food, experience, seasonality, architecture- they have it all. lovely to choose here as the first spot we hit for vacation! also tiramisu is CRAZY GOOD!

May 2025 Wedding, Flowers by Mohican Flowers, Photos by Erin Covey Creative, dessert by Desserts Beyond the Ordinary Having our wedding at Beardslee was one of the first decisions my husband and I made when we started planning. Working with Lynn was so easy and she answered all our questions and was always really quick to respond. She made the entire planning process so simple and stress-free. We originally planned an outdoor ceremony but had to switch at the last minute to inside and Lynn and her staff were so flexible in making the switch and even set up the dining room for photos, moved all the tables for the ceremony, and then replaced all the tables. They were all so accommodating and kind. We did not rent the entire Castle, but did have the getting room for the whole day and that was super helpful. We also opted in for getting ready snacks and they were amazing. The hors d'oeuvres were outstanding and my guests are still telling me how good the food was a week later. If food is important to you, this is the place for your wedding. All in all, my husband and I couldn't have been happier and loved the entire experience of working with Lynn and having our wedding at Beardslee. Truly a perfect day.

The service was wonderful but the the food was mediocre at best, a part from the appetizers which were delicious. Both mine and my wife's meals were grossly overcooked. I ordered a medium rare filet and my wife ordered a red snapper. Both came from the kitchen tough. This place had a murder mystery in the works, and my guess is that the kitchen was much too busy to pay attention to the "restaurant's quality standards. On the whole, this was a very disappointing meal for the money paid.

I've been there a few times, this time I talked my wife and Fellow Yelper Diane M. and her husband to join us. I'm certain that she will give her feedback when she gets around to writing a review. As for us, I started with the fried Calamari and my wife had the 3 cheese baked onion soup. I enjoyed the Calamari, it wasn't rubbery when you ate it. The onion soup was a hit also. For dinner I had the Stuffed Veal which was stuffed with a combination of crab & shrimp. The flavors were really good, veal was tender and flavorful. My wife's Strip Steak was cooked to perfection with green beans on top. We all had desert, yes.... Save room for desert, it was sooo good. The service was a 10, atmosphere was excellent, but no ghosts decided to join us. Yes they claim that are ghosts residing at the castle. You can tour the castle, see all the beautiful rooms and go down stairs to the Dungeon where the bar is located. For any tall people, just be careful of the arches downstairs! They also host Weddings etc upstairs if you like. When we left, the outside was lit up with some purple lights which made the place look good. I highly recommend Beardslee Castle for a unique dining experience.

Wow. What a great night. Went out for dinner with great friends. Got all dressed up and had dinner reservations. Was seated immediately. Absolutely beautiful. If I had anything negative to say I would just have to say while sitting waiting for our dinner, I was drawn to these paintings/art that was hanging from I guess a local artist. They did not go with the decor of the castle. It actually took away from the feel of this gorgeous castle. It through me off. Maybe display the art in a different room. I couldn't help but feel confused about it. It just didn't go. Like having a gorgeous Victorian room with a modern rug. Ruined the flow. Dining in a elegant room, seeing everyone dressed up, no TV on just great conversation. So enjoyable. The service was fantastic. The food was very good ! I had the rack of lamb rare. Cooked perfectly. My husband had the steak. Again. Cooked to perfection. I ordered the garlic potatoes. Sides were a shareable size. All and all a beautiful night. Can't wait to go back !!!

Absolutely 1st class! My wonderful wife brought me here for my birthday. A picturesque Victorian folly from the Mid 19th Century, now a restaurant with banqueting facilities. You can walk all around, see the dungeon (bar and restaurant) or the big space at the top for functions. The food was really 5*. We started with a Bruschetta, topped with a medley of mushrooms and herbs and garnished with balsamic. I opted for the Angus strip with caramelised onions and Bearnaise sauce whilst my wife had the Ravioli with assorted mushrooms. Both dishes were superb. All the food is sourced locally. Dessert was an outrageous Banana, flambeed in Brandy with banana bread, caramel sauce and ice cream + whipped cream. Totally decadent.

Recorded message said there were no reservations available, but leave a number and they would call back. We ended up calling back the next day and they were confused by their own recorded message and had plenty of openings available. Our party of 5 arrived at 6:50 for a 7:30 reservation so we could have a drink in the Dungeon Bar. Not a single bartender ( 3 of them) greeted us, actively ignored us and the 2 women who arrived ahead of us said it's been that way for quite awhile as they hadn't been able to place an order yet either. The Bar tender who did eventually take our order, after we requested a wine menu, was completely unfamiliar with the wines. We were seated on time since the entire restaurant was at maybe 20% capacity. The waitress who served us was pleasant but unfamiliar with the menu including not knowing what soft drinks were available (we had a DD). She could not answer any questions about the food, did not offer any salad dressing choices, no fresh pepper for the steak, no parmesan for the pasta dishes when they were served. Just really not accommodating at all. The food took an uncommonly long time to prepare and was pretty mediocre. Pasta was underdone (much more firm than al dente), the BBQ Eel did not taste fresh, the filet mignon had not a hint of salt or pepper and the bark was underdeveloped. The poor service we chalked up to a lack of training. People fail, systems don't. Maybe it's the only game in town so they fall short of needing to provide a good experience? The Castle is a great spot for Instagram worthy pics but does not deliver on a dining experience.

I was surprised for my birthday with a mystery dinner show here. It was a Friday night and the place was full. We were early so they directed us to their "Dungeon " bar. It was a fantastic area with all the ambiance of well a castle dungeon. It was being set up for a wedding rehearsal dinner. The side yard also had white chairs set up for what I guess would be where vows would be taken. Later, we wished the mystery dinner was held in the dungeon as it would have been the better setting. They have a restaurant on the main floor that looked very inviting and the food smelled really good as we walked thru. The mystery dinner was held upstairs in a very plain white and stark room. Many arched windows and a very plain banquet room feel. There were empty fireplaces , a bar and restrooms. The company who puts on the show was the Acme Theater group. Our party of 4 was seated at one of the first tables and another party of 4 were our table mates. It was the first mystery dinner that any of us had attended. Other dinner guests were going around picking up the clue sheets on the tables and copying them so we got the hint that we should as well. They had a very small plate of what we later learned was hummus and an olive tapenade. Bread and rolls were brought later. First course was a nice looking salad but with a very bland dressing. The show commenced and maybe an hour later dinner was served family style. By the way all drinks including soda with the exception for horrid tasting water were purchased at the bar. Our entrees were a fried chicken breast with a Parmesan basil sauce, thin sliced roast beef, mixed pasta dish with veggies and sides of mashed potatoes and rice. The food was very good and we were told to ask for more if we wanted. Service was great. The show continued and a dessert of flourless chocolate cake was served. Coffee??? Apparently the coffee was in the bar area but not one server told us that! It kind of ruined dessert with nothing to wash down the rich cake. All in all it was a fun experience, food was good, the room was a disappointment being in a castle and all. And coffee not served was a bust. Upon leaving many people were yawing a door to go out back way, came to realize we were all walking on the roof to very shaky steps to exit. I am guessing handicap entrance as one side had a ramp. The castle was pretty all lit up at night. The empty pond could be cleaned thou. Say hi to the Mummy in the dungeon restroom area.!

We were visiting little falls ny and were suggested Beardslee Castle to eat. It was an overall great experience! Castle was awesome looking, I wished we could have gone to the dungeon for a drink but it was closed during covid. Our food was amazing and wine pours were fair ( which is awesome as places sometime are cheap with this) I ordered the pork and my guy the steak. We both got mashed potatoes for a extra side and the portions were huge but delicious, so big that we could have gotten away with one. We were too full to try dessert. Over all almost perfect, the only issue I had was our server was not very pleasant... and older lady... And I did not like the salad but that is obviously my taste. read more
Went to this location for a wedding. The setting is nice and there are a few lodging options nearby if you're making it a destination. Apparently it was a castle built on a whim by a wealthy landowner some years back. The grounds are charming but not expansive. The best part of this place is the bar downstairs: the "dungeon" which looks like an actual dungeon complete with side rooms that one could imagine as prison cells from days gone by. I was not super excited by the food. After all, when not catering to private events like weddings, Beardslee is an operational restaurant. For the food alone I gave it 3 stars, because I feel that although dinner should have been the shining star, it was good but not great. There also isn't a large open space indoors to have dancing etc, something desirable if you're hosting an event. If you're just there for dinner then of course this is a non-issue. Overall the castle is quite charming and if you're in the area worth a visit. Just wish there was a little more history around it, the staff was a little more knowledgeable, and the food was a little better. read more

My parents brought my 9 yo son and me here in July. They consider it a special occasion place and were really excited to bring us here. Even if the drive was twice as long as my father remembered it being (1.5 hrs vs 45 mins!), it was certainly well worth the trip! The castle provides a special and unique ambience, and the food more than lived up to the setting. I had the Maple Leaf Farms duck breast, and it was one of the best duck dishes I've had anywhere. The breast was perfectly cooked, the accompaniments were nicely executed, and the sauce was the perfect complement to the dish. This is on par with something you could find in any of the best food cities, but with only a $25 price tag!!! Maybe I'm too jaded and used to Bay Area prices (& quality), but I thought the food was INCREDIBLY reasonably priced considering the quality and execution, not to mention the unique location. read more

Went here with 9 other friends for a special dinner. Loved the look of the place right from the start. We had 7 p.m. reservations, but when we arrived, they were not yet ready to serve us. So they suggested we go down to the dungeon. What a cool spot! There is a bar down there with bar seating and a number of people hanging out and enjoying drinks. I did not get any alcohol, but the people in my party really seemed to like the variety of drinks they ordered including a dry martini, a cosmopoliten, bourben manhatten, and a craft beer to name a few. Although a couple of my friends thought it smelled a bit musty down there, I did not notice it at all. There was room to sit in other spaces away from the bar, a pool table, and spaces with dungeon like doors that my friends got behind and had their pictures taken as if they were locked up. It was a fun spot. Around 7:30 we went upstairs and were seated in a little alcove with windows to the outside, artwork on the walls, and a fireplace with candles lit instead of a fire. We ordered 4 appetizers to share and our main entrees and we were served around 8:30. While we were waiting, the waitresses kept our drinks filled and we had a basket of various kinds of breads. There were hummas and also a chopped green olive spread on the table as well. I put a little of both on my breads and they were a great filler. Love olives and hummas, so I was happy :) The whole first floor was dimly lit, but still easy to see the menu and was the perfect ambiance. We shared grilled brussel sprouts, Louisiana 'gator cake that we all just had to try, the calimari, and some kind of cheese thing that never made it down to my end of the table! My favorite was the gator :) but they were all good. We ordered a number of dishes. A couple people got the rack of lamb, a couple got the shrimp and scallop dish, someone got the walnut pork, a few got their famous Mapleleaf Duck, and I got their Angus Prime Rib. They each came with a starter salad that was really, really good. My Prime Rib was quite tasty. It was a bit on the salty side though. Would have been a bit better if it came with some kind of potatoe on the side. My date was super excited about the duck, however, he was a bit disappointed. Everyone raves about it, but his was fairly bland and tasteless. The quinoa and sauce that came with it was very tasty though and made the dish more enjoyable. Unfortunately we did not have room for dessert. We were all quite full. The cost of each dish we felt was very reasonable and we were all glad that we came. Although we had a birthday and an anniversary celebration, they did not offer any little special something to recognize these occasions. That would have been a nice touch. And the wait staff was fairly mediocre, but did a sufficient job. The unique setting, the choice of interesting and tasty food options, reasonable pricing, the ambiance, and distinctive character of the interior would all give me reason to return. read more
Outstanding food with an outstanding atmosphere to go along with it. Located in a rather remote location but well worth the trip. Entree prices were extremely reasonable for outstanding food. Mushroom soup that was like nothing I have ever had. I also had a sausage stuffed into a pork tenderloin which was to die for and a meal I have seen or experienced anywhere before. Located in a beautiful old castle enhanced the experience. Most entree's under $30 and that includes a salad. Before or after you must explore the place, simply amazing! We only had dinner but they also every few weeks do a Murder Mystery Dinner which looked great. This one without a doubt is worth a long drive. read more

Unprofessional, rude. Brides dinner plate was dirty. Keg beer was warm. Bartender didn't know how to make drinks. Staff took dinner plates away from people while eating. ( including my daughter's) Took paid drinks at the end of the night. There staff was rolling my stuff up in the table cloths I brought and threw it on a table in front of me. Staff ignored questions and guests talking. To them all night. Guests asked for more bread and wait staff rudely answered back with we have no more. Staff commented on my Facebook post and told me I was a fat ugly bride THE NEXT day for posting a bad review. Lynn lost our dinner options, drink package and linen colors so had to go back when it got closer to the date. Charged us a room fee because corona virus didn't allow for my whole wedding list to be there. Finds every loophole to charge extra. Doesn't give a couple a chance to discuss anything privately. AC unit upstairs leaked on my grandmother while she was eating. Beautiful place worst place to get married at. read more

This was a surprise dinner. The Manor is beautiful, I love the architecture. Upon arriving, the entrance was not marked, so the way I came in felt awkward as we learned quickly a wedding was getting set up outside. We arrived about 15 minutes before our reservation time, and after checking in with the hostess she directed us to the "dungeon" for some drinks. Or we could walk around outside if we wanted. Promptly seated for our 5 pm reservation, table was beautiful, hostess lit candle to add to the ambiance. Our waitress informed us that menus are freshly printed, she got us fresh drinks and bread in the meantime. ****This was my only issue****accommodated quickly. Remember how I said a wedding was being set up, well in fact a wedding was and did take place while we were having dinner. The amount of traffic was making me feel uncomfortable from the wedding party/wedding guests who just didn't seem to care that a couple was about to have a meal at the table they were standing next to while they had their conversations..it was RUDE. If anything with the way the house is set up, and if your going to run a restaurant at the same time as a wedding don't seat dinning guest who are paying a lot of money for a meal to be disturbed by the constant trampling of bridesmaids/groomsman, wedding guests walking through the dinning area going unnecessarily back and forth. Both should be respectful of the other in my opinion, After asking, we were quietly moved to another table. Our waitress was awesome..I wish I could remember her name. I need to work on that. She was attentive and informative, suggested some items. When Another table ordered a bottle a wine and the fancy process of opening the bottle, I picked her brain and I learned how they use a candle so the wine sediment doesn't get into the carafe. Id never seen it done that way. Our entree were as I expected. Delicious, Bread and garlic biscuits with roasted red pepper hummus spread was great. I enjoyed a caprese salad (its my thing, you cant really mess that up) My entree was the pheasant, it was my first time having it, of course it "tasted like chicken" Meat was so moist and apricot glaze was a tasty compliment. At this point I'm stuffed. While I did peek at the dessert menu, I saw three or four things I would have ordered 1. Overall, I enjoyed my experience here, enjoyed my meal, drinks, the atmosphere. Its a nice place to have special occasions. read more

My friend and I took a crazy 10+ hour trip to Upstate New York from Indiana over the weekend for her friend's wedding. I came because I needed to get away for a second and I haven't ever been anywhere that far north before and thought it would be cool to see something different. Well one, I thought the town was beautiful being a little mountain town with an English feel to it. However, this castle though in the middle of nowhere was lovely. I loved the look of it. I thought it was a perfect place for this wedding to happen. Didn't really get to do too much exploring because it was dark. It was crazy cold too, so other than the occasional step out for a smoke you couldn't really see much out except for that beautiful house next door and everywhere where they had the Christmas lights strategically placed. The wedding was held upstairs and the only issue I would have had with it is that where we were placed, you could not see the ceremony at all due to the placement of the table and the column being in the way. However, I don't really know anyone at the wedding, so I was glad to take one for the team. I thought their servers were on top of their game the whole night. They came at the perfect times to clean the dishes up, refilled the waters and were all very polite people. I was ecstatic that this wedding was an open bar, because they make really great drinks and fairly strong too. So, I was feeling pretty good by the time when we had to leave. The bar area was super cute also with the wooden accents and the little secluded room where they had all of it set up. I ended up getting the beef option and I thought everything on the plate was absolutely lovely. The only thing I would mention is that I wish the steak were just a tiny bit juicier, but it is a steak and I understand sometimes those can be quite difficult to make when you have several other people you have to feed. The seafood hors d'oeuvres were a lot of fun and incredibly delicious. I loved the bacon-wrapped shrimp and the scallops. I even thought the stuffed mussels were nice. I didn't try the oysters they had their, because I'm not really sure how you are supposed to eat them. So I'd rather just not make a fool of myself. Also, this isn't necessarily the castle's fault, because it is in the middle of some remote woods, but it is a little obnoxious that you can't get phone service at all in the castle. Other than that, I thought it was a lovely wedding and it was a great environment for something like that. It was definitely something that we don't have here in Indiana that would fit that kind of elegance. I would definitely recommend it for people that live in that part of New York. read more

We held my sisters baby shower here primarily because of the ambiance. The castle is absolutely beautiful and makes for a warm and charming environment for any special occasion. Planning and coordination was very easy and efficient. We were able to bring our own decorations and music to create the theme we hoped for. A+ for the venue. We ordered mimosas off the brunch menu, but were surprised to see that they were pre-mixed in a punch bowl with what tasted (and felt) like mostly orange juice. We ordered a buffet style brunch, made to order omelets. The food was absolutely delicious and the guests raved. We had quite a bit of food remaining after brunch and I actually didn't get time to eat much as the host. We attempted packing some food to go and received a little push back from the staff. read more
Came here on Halloween evening of 2018. We got dinner with several friends Additionally, we were scouting it out for out potential wedding location. Food was poor, drinks were okay. Waitress was inattentive but the bartender was friendly (we had pre-dinner cocktails. What did me in was the unknown insect with what seemed like 100 legs crawling up the wall! So gross. Will not return, which is unfortunate as the theme and vibe of this place is definitely unique. read more

Very similar review from what I see online - the owners must not read them or care. The food was good but not warm, service was really bad, and we left with mixed feelings . Arrived at 6 for our reservation... Ordered drinks (mojito was poorly executed - no sugar used). Ordered at 6:15, appetizer (cheese plate was tasty, but "crackers" that came with it were off putting and inappropriate for cheeses selected) arrived at 7. Our server was barely ever present - my empty drink sat on the edge of the table for a full 2 1/2 hours! We thought about asking for a different table or server but we are low maintenance dinners. Salads came out at 7:45 and were really sad -chopped lettuce onions and an uninspiring dressing. dinner came out at 8:25, while only Luke warm, was delicious. We didn't get the bill until just after 9:10. We thought prices were quite reasonable given the fare and left wondering if the poor service is just part of the Beardslee charm, but if I'm the folks in the kitchen, I would be none too happy that the front of the house is spoiling what should have been a brilliant night out. read more

Visited for our anniversary again. This place is an oasis in a sea of bland pizza joints and Chicken Riggies. If you are looking for a cheap meal with the kids than this is not the place for you. The castle is gorgeous inside and out. The food, atmosphere and staff could hold their own in NYC. It's definitely more expensive than the other area eateries but it is so worth it. Save your appetite because you are going to want to get a appetizer and a dessert with your meal. The dessert are to die for! We visit as often as we can and will continue to do so. If you want a great meal so should you. read more

This place has both good and bad things about it. You'll have to decide for yourself if it's worth it. I would recommend going just for the experience of eating in a "haunted" castle. The food is great, but the service was pretty poor. Also, the seating is kind of bad if you're shy. You might end up staring right at a group of 10 people and it's awkward. All the tables are crammed into one area: Unless you end up in the weird side room with the ancient, dusty oriental rugs. I swear I almost had an allergy attack from those rugs. They looked like they hadn't been changed since 1944. Anyways... Our food took over an hour to arrive. When it finally did arrive, it wasn't as warm as it should have been. But it was delicious. I didn't want to complain about the not-so-warm meat because I know what they do when you send your food back to restaurant kitchens. When you pay almost 30 bucks a plate, you expect the food to be hot. No matter how good it tastes, no one wants a lukewarm meal. The water was WEIRD and I didn't even want to drink it. The soda was tainted with the foul sulfur water as well. Ick. They need to invest in some bottled water, or at the very least a filtration system. I felt like I was drinking puddle water from the inside of a casket. Like I said before, the service was less-than-stellar. Our waitress wasn't very friendly, and the food took ages to come. We were so bored. At least there were plenty of tacky decorations and bizarre, clashing light fixtures to stare at. The place has the potential to be really great, but right now things are rough around the edges. They should hire an interior decorator and make the place look like a castle instead of a gothic opium den. read more

My wife and I went to a murder mystery dinner event last weekend at the castle. My first impression upon driving up was that this was a castle straight out of a Disney movie, but in miniature. The castle honestly appears to be about the size of large newly built home in our area. Of course, no one builds a house out of stone anymore, so it's certainly unique. We got there early to stroll the grounds, but it appeared to be no more than an acre so there wasn't too much to look at. We entered the building, but there was no hostess in sight so we waited until one showed up after ten minutes to tell us the seating would occur at 6:45 (for a seven o'clock show). By 6:45 the small waiting area was crammed to the gills and we didn't get let up until 7:00 anyway. Once upstairs, things improved markedly. The table was already set with our salads (mixed greens- nothing special although with remarkably tasty creamy Italian dressing) and dinner rolls. The actors for the show began milling about and entertained us while also handing out minor parts to be read by audience members. After about a half hour, the play began and part one lasted about 45 minutes. Next we were served dinner family style. I was thoroughly impressed with the sliced beef that was perfectly cooked and flavorful. The breaded chicken was average, as was the rice pilaf and mixed vegetables. The second half of the play commenced and then dessert was served. Definitely an excellent flour less chocolate torte, but no coffee was served with it. I noticed others with coffee, and when asked they responded that the coffee was in the next room and you had to get it yourself. We then submitted our guesses for the person who committed the murder. After about a half hour the play concluded with awards given out for best guesses and worst guesses. If I was only reviewing the play, I would have given a four star rating, and had I only been reviewing the food and service, my review would have been two stars. So I compromised on three. read more

Went to Beardslee this past weekend. Got there a little before our reservation so we had a drink in The Dungeon. After drinks we went upstairs and were seated promptly. There are two reasons I'm giving this place only one star. First, because there's not a "no stars" option. So if I have to give a reason for the one star is because the place is pretty. That's where the compliment ends. We made reservations for the Dungeon. The hostess didn't seem really sure that's where to take us. She thought our reservation was for the main dining room. But, since we insisted on the Dungeon, she led us there. The first stumbling block was about sifting through the crowd of wedding guests to get to our table. The next was the strong smell of mildew. Took my appetite away! Our table was cramped and the place was uncomfortable, so we asked to go up to the main dining room. We were seated at a lovely table near the window, so were able to watch the wedding outside, which was a nice diversion from the fact that our dinner took 1/2 hour to arrive. We had a party of 6. Our server did not smile. When we asked for separate checks for our 3 couples, she paused and said "I guess so", but gave the impression that it was a bother. When we placed the order, my fiance asked if he could substitute the sweet potatoes for something else. She said no! Really? I was thinking that this was not a place where the customer was the priority. Our meals arrived. 2 out of the 6 of us were pleased. Here's the issues the remainder of us cite: The ostrich appetizer was so smothered in a dark sauce, that the tiny pieces of ostrich were undetectable. The rabbit sausage appy was so overcooked and tough it couldn't be eaten. The mushroom soup was thick as jello and opaque, so scary to look at, but was edible. The steak with chimichurri sauce was ordered medium rare and arrived with the texture of shoe leather and way too much sauce. The pork loin dinner was served with the sweet potatoes that could not be substituted, so not eaten... along with a piece of pork, also as dry and tough as shoe leather... not nearly finished. Those who were happy with their meals ordered the shrimp/seafood dish and the sausage stuffed pork meal. The brussel sprouts appy was good. The chocolate flourless cake for dessert was excellent. The cost was way too much for the quality of food and service. Our server was aloof, never smiled and was not at all concerned for our satisfaction. And we traveled a 2 hour round trip to be very disappointed. I do understand that a wedding was happening there simultaneously. The restaurant can obviously not handle both. And to top things off, on a Saturday from 5-7:30 pm we were the only ones in the main dining area. Speaks volumes. read more

I know I'm a little late with saying this but I had my wedding here in December, it was absolutely beautiful! Everything fell into place perfectly and they were so accommodating. I was in college while planning my wedding and the communication was unbelievable and he stress of planning a wedding almost disappeared completely! The food was delicious and the price was great. My husband and his friends loved getting ready downstairs. To make a long story short, my special day turned out great because the friendly staff and great atmosphere, I wouldn't change my experience at all. read more

This is quite the drive from pretty much anywhere, but we arrived ready to have an amazing experience. Who would not want to eat at a castle and get all the cool Outlander style romantic vibes? Castle was beautiful from the outside and all lit up. The parking lot was a mess of slush from the recent melted snow- I get that its a country experience and it's winter in the north country but as they list on all the information I read about this place it was a business casual dress code- which typically means heels for women- I thought it would be an actual paved parking lot and maybe could have been managed a bit better cause I really did not have a great time getting through that in my heels. Ok so we get in- the hostess does not greet us at all -also wearing distressed black jeans- should have been our first sign this was not fine dining. We get seated at our table all the way in the back, with a speaker blaring old timey christmas music. It had been a bit of a drive so I was happy they had water poured for us already- but no chance of that refreshment as even the water was off and bad. This place can't even provide you with water that tastes decent. Their menu states it's their "well water" like cool you got a chance to tell me why your water tastes bad but this was the solution instead of fixing it? Drinks- after a small wait we were asked what we wanted to drink. I settled for Guinness cause it was the first thing I saw that sounded refreshing after the water fail. The menu said it was on draft but could tell it wasn't or was really really old. The website boasts a 10 page wine menu- I was never asked about wine, told about wine or offered this menu. Their very limited wines on their single laminated menu ( how do you change and update your menus if you took the time to laminate them?) were cheap and basic. I have nothing wrong with a simple or cheap wine but really wanted this to be an experience of trying new foods and new wines- that's what fine dining is about right? Food- We typically order a lot of apps at a place like this cause the food is normally more interesting. So we did the same here. They fired ALL of the food all at once. So we have a table now cluttered full of food- one or more of these dishes is going to go cold before we have a chance to eat it. The wait staff oddly switched at this moment, we had someone bring the food- set it down and leave. No telling about the food, what it was or if we wanted a wine that would pair well- nothing. Just cluttered the table full of food and left. They did bring us some serving utensils- for some reason they assumed that was being helpful? The food was very very disappointing, I won't break it down but using pre-purchased stuff from a food service is not fine dining. If you are going to call something a fritter- it should be a fritter. Using pre-shaved parmesan cheese and slicing some olives is not fine dining. Most things were not cooked all the way, or not fresh, usually both at the same time. The food was pretty bland and lacked so much. The fastest time our original waitress moved was getting us our bill and then very quickly running it through. If the best thing you can say about the wait staff is they brought your bill to you quickly....wellll..... I really wanted this to match the hype they portray online and the reviews here. But I imagine the 4 and 5 star reviews are people that have never truly had a fine dining meal. I get better and friendly service at my local Red Robin and oddly the food is more fresh there. If they are going to expect these prices they need to do much more than having a cool place and placing a candle and a tablecloth down and calling it good. Bottom line the castle is a gimmick made to bring you in but once you are in they do nothing to create an experience. I actually felt like we inconvinced them for the entire experience from start to finish. read more

This is by far the BEST restaurant in a 50 mile radius. The castle is Straight out of the 1400's and the atmosphere is elegant. Super fun to visit. AND the food is to die for. I enjoy eating in the dungeon where Haley runs a tight ship. Drinks are served fast whether it be a beer or one of her special cocktails. My wife goes nuts for her concoctions. As I said food is promptly served hot and to perfection. Choices are many whether you prefer the bar menu or the main dinning room menu. You can not go wrong here. Only drawback is they have limited hours. I an glad I do not live next dooror I would like "Norm" on Cheers. Try it if you are in the area!! read more

My husband and I just celebrated our wedding here on 9/28/18. Lynn made the planning process SO EASY and painless, as I could contact her through email anytime I needed. Not only was the food phenomenal as expected, (we had a full brunch buffet) but the side courtyard was perfectly landscaped for our outdoor ceremony, and you could see the fall foliage beginning to change in the mountains in the distance. Don't be discouraged by the stunning and pricey aesthetics of the venue, everything was very cost effective. So much so, that we had our rehearsal dinner there as well. If you're looking for both a glamorous and intimate venue for your wedding, or just want to catch a quality bite to eat on the weekend (with reservations, of course) this is the place to go. read more

Loved the dungeon! Awesome atmosphere and good priced selection of food. Like that you can order the upstairs menu in the dungeon as well! Beautiful place inside and out! read more

Went for the mystery theatre show. We arrived about 6:45 and the girl told us we couldn't be seated until 7 and to wait in the dungeon until they were ready. We went up at exactly 7 to be seated and were the last people up there. They told us which table we were sitting at and we went over to the table to find there were only 2 open seats (there were 3 of us in the group). We told them there wasn't enough room at that table and the girl was going to try and squeeze another chair and place setting into an already crowded table. We made of reservation and already paid $45 per person, should've had a seat ready for us when we got there. Then, they brought us over to another table that had 3 seats available. The family already seated there already had salads and water. We waited about 20 minutes and nobody brought us anything (salad or water). We practically had to hunt a waitress down to get served. Unfortunately this was going to be an ongoing trend throughout the night. The water tasted very strongly of sulfur. My moms salad had no dressing on it. They gave us one tiny basket of bread for the whole table (of 8 people) and after the bread was gone they never came back to refill it. The actual "show" didn't start till about a half hour after we were seated. Everyone was starving and we had to sit through the whole first act without any dinner. After suffering through the horrendous acting for an hour, the first act was over and we were still all wondering where the food was. We had to still wait about 15-20 minutes for the food to come out and by the time we got it it was lukewarm. The food was mediocre, more like something you would eat at a graduation party or cookout. Also, I specifically called ahead for a vegetarian option the day before and they said they would have it ready for me. Well, when I asked the waitress for it, it was no surprise when they looked all confused and didn't know what I was talking about. So again, I had to wait about 20 minutes for them to make my vegetarian meal because they were completely unprepared. After that, everyone at the table was looking for some coffee. Never once did the waitresses come to check on us or offer us coffee. We didn't find out until later that the coffee was off in a side room and was self serve. It would've been nice for someone to tell us this. The coffee was being served in tiny little teacups that fit about 2 sips. Then, we had to sit through the 2nd act which was just as bad as the first. This was the most confusing and scattered play ever and we were completely uninterested. Not to mention, none of the waitresses even told us how the mystery part worked or what was going on the whole entire time. Overall, this was the worst service I ever received in my life and I would never go back to another mystery dinner and NEVER recommend this to anyone. read more
Fine dining in a castle! Nestled in little falls New York, Beardslee is quite the hidden gem. It has lush landscaping, ivy covered some walls, and a beautiful interior. Speaking of the interior, it is comprised of three floors. The lowest level "the dungeon" contains the bar and serves a pub style menu. The middle floor is the main restaurant. The top floor is reserved for events. The main floor is exactly what you'd expect of a castle with stone walls, a large hearth in the middle, and high ceilings The menu is pricey but adorned with many different fine dining options. I ordered the beef tips which were decent even though they were cooked well done and I wasn't given an option on temperature. My table mates were generally satisfied with their food though not overly impressed. I'll definitely try to find my way back in the future, though my recommendation is to go for the ambiance more than the food. read more

What a terrible experience we had at this castle. We had gone there for dinner and to start, the appetizers came out cold, the water is awful, and the service was worse. Then the meals came out, sad. I could not even cut my wife's steak with a knife, mussels I had ordered were dank and should not have been served, and when I complained, nothing was done to try and sooth us. So then we proceeded downstairs to have a drink, and the place just smelled terrible. Completely filthy and I can tell the floor hasn't been sweeped in months, not to mention dirt and dust on everything. Plus it wasn't even busy and we had to wait for staff to finish talking with her friends before she even made us a weak drink. Sorry had to share, and will never return, not to mention, never suggest. Don't make the mistake we did of giving these ppl our money read more

After life kicked us in the teeth all winter and spring, my wife and I found ourselves looking for new plans to spend our 10th anniversary. We still wanted something unique, special and memorable. I happened to read Kimberly W.'s list of best places within an hour of Albany and we decided to give it a try. Beardslee Castle was everything we wanted. Part of the charm of Beardslee Castle is the location and the trip to get there. It is almost like driving to another world. My wife says my face lit up like a school kid when seconds after seeing a road sign cautioning care around horse and buggies one appeared right beside us. The rest of the ride added to the quaint scene with an Amish shop, a few road side antique dealers and even kids pulling each other in a red wagon. Maybe I am a still a city kid, but little bits of country charm really do amaze me. When we arrived there was a wedding starting just outside. I found a place to park without getting in the way and the smell of the wood fire grill greeted me warmly. Not wanting to cross the wedding precession and get in the way of their video filming, we stayed in the garden. The grounds are gorgeous, flowers and trees of all types surround the place. Oh, and bugs. I imagine there's a couple dozen bugs writing their reviews of dining on Willie's tasty bits. All part of country charm. We were seated next to a gentleman, and I use the term lightly, who decided his worth as a human could only be expressed with how much he could complain. Two hundred year old construction and antique furniture can sometimes cause a table to wobble. They use small blocks of wood to keep this from causing a problem. After the man repositioned his table, he lost the benefit of his shim and started complaining endlessly. He was asked more than once if he would mind if they just reset the shim, or if he preferred a different table, but on and on he complained. This started with 5 to 10 minute complaints about everything, the wine not being perfect, the potatoes being too cold and a 10 minute dissertation about why the waitress should not have bothered to ask if he wanted something for dessert. Each of these rants had a visible impact on our waitress and certainly delayed our dining. We were in no rush and once the trouble passed our waitress really appreciated our patience. I wrote in a couple weeks early to ask about gluten free options and the owner confirmed they had plenty to offer. My wife loved the gluten free bread, it was so fluffy she was worried to taste it. We shared clams casino and a fire grilled stuffed portabello for starters. I had a perfectly grilled NY strip with Saranac beer and mustard sauce. The wood flavor really comes through and created the perfect crust. My wife had Texas shrimp and scallops on a plate of gluten free fettuccine which she loved. We ended the night with dessert, my wife having the sauteed bananas without the banana bread and I had the cheesecake. Not a great piece of cheesecake, was very loose, but the bananas were right on the money. Overall the food was good, but the feel of Beardslee Castle is really what makes the place stand out. They offer historical information about the castle and invite you to walk around. With the weddings going on we decided to skip the self guided tour for fear of walking into someone's gathering. Apparently the TV show Ghost Hunters filmed there recently and they expect the episode to air in the fall. read more

I was excited to go back to Beardslee Castle after a few years, it wasn't as great as I remember, but let me share some points and let you know why I'll never go back: Pros: *Ambiance *Top notch salads *Excellent beer and wine list *Good mashed potatoes Cons: *With only two other couples in the building, we sat and waited awkwardly for 20 minutes until somebody decided to wait on us (she wasn't even a waitress) *Steak was overcooked, chewy, and bland *Shrimp was overcooked, and not cleaned properly *Plate was covered in lemon zest *Water tasted like chlorine All in all, both my fiancee and I were thoroughly unimpressed by both the quantity and quality of the food we received, as well as the service read more

Decided to make the drive from Syracuse to Little Falls to take in the Castle. After reading the reviews- started to get cold feet about making the 1+ hour drive. SO GLAD THAT WE DID!! The grounds were absolutely gorgeous! We arrived a little earlier than our reservation, and took in a drink at the dungeon bar. What a cozy atmosphere, yes there is a slight dank smell- but then again, you are in a dungeon and the smell is not intolerable at all. After being seated for dinner, the staff was very friendly and professional. We learned that the menu is printed everyday and thus the "specials" are listed by the chef daily. Our reservation was for 7:30- however, I would advise to go for an earlier seating. As all the meals are made to order- which is why there is a bit of a wait between courses- they ran out of the 2 items from the grill that we were interested in. We will definitely be returning to try them out! The meals we ordered were fantastic!! A must have is the horseradish whipped potatoes!! They were out of this world- and paired wonderfully with the steak dishes. The water did have a sulphur taste- however, we simply ordered the bottled water instead of drinking the table water. A simple solution that did not distract from a fantastic meal. Another note on the service- yes, it is slower than at a chain restaurant. Eating at Beardslee Castle is an experience, if you are looking for a fast, pre-prepared, chain type meal, this is not your place. If you are looking for a DINING experience that will leave you sated and content- the castle is a MUST do! read more

We went out with great expectations. No its not a real castle. I know if it has a turret it can be called a castle. We are locals and have been reading about beardsley for awhile. The menu online always seems so avant garde, in this small town environment. So our kids came up to visit and we thought we would try. They do have a great selection of drinks. From wines to beers and all the in between drinks from the bar. We ordered beer and had the owner supposedly recommend a few for us which we enjoyed. All the people saying how wonderful the ambiance is.. I don't get it. The chairs were horribly uncomfortable. We were being bit by some type of bugs that were relentless and painful. Yes it had candle light, I am assuming so you couldn't see what you were eating. The food was ok at best. Nothing to merit the expensive price tag that went along with it. Food was warm when brought out, I like mine hot. I wouldn't go back. read more

As a paranormal researcher I've always wanted to visit Beardsley, I was not disappointed at all. The cuisine is definitely 5 star, the appetizers were strategically timed with the main course as to not leave you too full for dinner or desert. I had the duck and it was culinary heaven. As a side note, the paranormal activities were quite interesting. The candle at our table fell out of the holder, which was quite secure. I am always very aware of my surroundings and I saw the waitress light the candle and noticed it being quite secure in the holder. I also saw a shadow in an area that was unoccupied and away from the parking area or road to have possibly caused by outdoor lights. We were quite inundated with an above average amount of snow at the time and only the parking area was plowed, so the chance of someone walking around outside was nearly impossible. I look forward to visiting again, the bar menu looked very inviting and the atmosphere is the best. read more

Come for the murder mystery dinner theater and you'll definitely get your money's worth. Tickets are only $45, which isn't bad for a three-course family-style meal (which was well-paced) and a fun, very interactive show. The castle itself is gorgeous, and we got drinks in the dungeon while waiting to be seated upstairs, which let us hang out through the whole space. The food was good, and while it's cash bar for drinks, the prices aren't bad. Was a great night out with family and friends and I'll definitely go back. read more

The building was beautiful...that's why I am giving it one star...the service was very slow, the dungeon area was very unappealing, and the food was not good. First we ordered the onion soup (found out from a local later that the onion soup is infamous for the hard as a rock bread)...it was the worst onion soup I've ever had...the bread was ROCK HARD...even after being submerged in hot liquid for 10 minutes. And it also tasted like mold (I think it was the cheese). Then we got a hamburger with waffle fries. The burger was decent but the fires were very overcooked. Left hungry and angry as we heard the table next to us complaining about the bread in the onion soup (we did tell the waitress.. And she failed to inform the next customer not to order the shitty soup) and heard the other table say "the cow must of had a bad day" referring to the chocolate milk being bad.... Ughh not ok. Don't go to this restaurant unless u like crappy expired food. read more

History
Established in 1994.
Built in 1860 as the palatial home of Judge Augustus Beardslee, the Castle was constructed by Irish stonemasons of local limestone in the style of an Irish estate. It remained a private residence until 1944 when it became a restaurant known then as "The Manor". A fire in 1989 destroyed the ktichen areas but left the grandeur of the architecture intact to be restored by the current owners. With over 50 years of history as a showpiece Mohawk Valley restaurant and now celebrating 20 years as 'Beardslee Castle', the Castle has become known far and wide as a must-see destination, a fabulous dining experience and landmark 19th century historic Mohawk Valley site. Oh, and we're haunted too!

We don't get here as often as we should. Def have to change that. They have shorter hours in the winter. Last week we had another amazing night at the Beardslee! Enjoyed a drink by the massive fireplace when we arrived. it was busy but it's never a loud restaurant, suprising given all the stonework. The place is gorgeous inside and out and they seem to keep it up very nicely. We're always noticing something new. Service is professional, friendly and attentive. I've seen many of the same staff for years so they have service down to a science. I had a delicious duck confit crepe with grilled leeks, wife had fried brussel sprouts with pancetta nd walnuts (both amazing). Grilled meats are a must here, wood fired. I had rack of lamb, done to perfection and wife had a pleasantly light spring artichoke pasta with peas, cauliflower garlic sauce. They have a very extensive wine list and we opted for a pinot noir from Kistler that blew us away. Had to try the cannoli napoleon for dessert, wow! We left stuffed but very happy, can't wait to return! People should know what a gem they have right here in the valley! read more

As you can see this place is a hit or miss with the food. For us it was by far a miss. The service is always terrible and yes the water is nasty OH but if you would like you can BUY a bottle of water . How nice of them. I guess most people who like this place are mostly locals and there is not much around to compare it to is my only guess. The place is filthy and who ever responds to the reviews is very sarcastic and rude. Not very professional on there part. It just shows how they do not take the reviews seriously and they should. This place would be fantastic if they had someone who would clean it, do a bunch of upgrades and fire most of the servers . My advice do not bother if you are hungry and if you do not have all night to wait for cold food. read more
