This was our second time coming to The Poke Place, and it has been great both times. The food is always very fresh, there are a lot of good options, and the service has been excellent. Everyone has been really friendly and helpful when ordering. We've tried both the Huli Huli Hawaiian Chicken Lunch Plate and custom poke bowls, and everything we've had has been really good. The ingredients taste fresh, and portions felt fair for the price. For three of us to eat lunch, it was around $40, which felt reasonable. Seating is limited to about 6-8 counter seats, so it's definitely more of a quick stop than a sit-down restaurant. The only downside is the location--it's a little tucked away and not the easiest place to get to. Overall though, I'd highly recommend it if you're looking for fresh poke or Hawaiian-style lunch plates. read more

CAMPUS POKE LAB....... I was not aware there was another one. Everything about it was fishy. The food stunk like fish as it should but not good fish smells like fish service is rude. They have their own independent delivery service guys walking around with teal blue vest that think they can just bite in front of anybody the ambiance was OK nothing special nothing fancy but the food was horrible. Not that great at night, maybe better at lunch. We've been twice so far for dinner and both times we were greeted with blunt statements of all the stuff they don't have and what they won't make. The first time it was understandable, the second time they said they wouldn't make anything cold, so only fried or reheated stuff. If you do go...as for the food, the chicken Katsu is not bad, but it's hard to mess that up and they give you a good amount of rice with the lunch plate. The sides are really nothing special. They throw in a Hawaiian sounding word in the names but really it's just bland potato salad and macaroni salad. Is it the worst place around? No. Would it be a lot better if you could go and enjoy your food and not feel like you're ruining the day of the people working there just from stopping in? yes absolutely. read more

For a Poke spot somewhat out of the way and in a very small strip, this place was pretty good! The restaurant itself was a very small shop, mostly meant for getting the food to-go so that's just what my friend and I did. They also have nice to-go condiments which is handy. After we waited about 10 minutes, our food came out. I got the Combo Sushi bowl, and my friend got the Big Maui. We both thought the food was very fresh and tasty. Our only issue with it was the portion sizes. For around $15 we got bowls the size of a small household bowl. I've found that getting Poke on campus, just a 15 minute drive away, can get you much more food. Overall, really enjoyed it, but feel like you can get better value elsewhere read more

Woah. Best poke in Illinois is here! Forget the rest. Best part: avocado is so important. No skimming on the avocado here. Poke was very tasty, fresh and cool. So thankful to find this place in my little town in the middle of the corn fields. Crab salad and tuna was so flavorful. Me and my husband came here out of curiosity to try poke for a nice summer day. The prices are reasonable and portions are generous but the service could use some work. We were the first ones to order around 5:45pm, patrons behind us ordered after. Despite the order, we waited at least 30 minutes for our food and saw others receive their orders before we did. There was one or two people working behind the register. I don't understand what the wait was about. But it was extremely inconvenient as we were anticipating a quick pick up since my husband had to go to work. Don't make a shop a pick up kind of place if you're going to make customers wait 30 minutes. The food was decent, but the wait really ruined the entire experience. We won't be coming back here unless we really run out of options for poke in Champaign. read more

We were in town for a college soccer match and before heading back to St. Louis, needed food. The Poke Shack sounded healthy and good so we stopped in--and it didn't disappoint! This place is outstanding! The owner took our order and was super friendly and helpful with the menu. We both had the Big Kahuna - one with original raw tuna and one with raw salmon. They were absolutely delicious. Both bowls were filled generously filled with brown rice, krab salad, tuna/salmon, edamame, avocado, cabbage, carrots, masago and we had our choice of sauces. If this restaurant was in St. Louis area, we'd be eating here every week and likely multiple times a week. The interior is nicely decorated, Hawaiian vibe, but very limited seating- only a row of seats at a bar looking out the front window. For us this was completely fine, but you can tell they're not set up to have a lot of dine-in guests. We will be back next time we are in Champaign area! read more

I was born and raised on Oahu so I was shocked to find a little piece of Hawaii in the middle of Illinois. I wish we lived closer so we could eat here more often. Made my first visit today and can't wait to go back. I had a sushi bowl with rice, tuna, shrimp, and crab salad. It was very fresh and flavorful. On March 31st around 5pm, I visited the Fields Location in Champaign to purchase my son and I combo sushi bowls. I love them and wanted my son (who also loves sushi) to try it out. After getting home I noticed the spicy tuna AND smoked salmon were left out of my bowl and the smoked salmon was left out of my son's bowl. I contacted the store and male answered and after voicing my issues he stated he did hear they ran out of smoked salmon. He then put a woman on the phone who apologized and gave me the options of coming back to the store to get the protein that was left out or to have my 2 bowls replaced at a different time. I chose to have my two bowls replaced and she told me she would write my name down with what was credited to me. I called today and told they have no record or notation of any of this. I was placed on a long hold and then had to be called back after an investigation was done. When I was contacted back, the woman on the phone was short with me telling me she has no time to investigate and that she would give me one of my bowls but not the other then hung up on me during the call. This is a terrible way to operate. I was initially met with understanding and great customer service. All of that was tarnished by the rude employee who didn't have time for me. I was, admittedly, wronged and now nothing will be rectified. I have referred so many people to this place from my coworkers, family, and even strangers. Even today, my coworkers and I were dancing around about it being a Poke Shack day for us but this happened. I know quality food. I'm willing to spend good money for that food. I pride myself on patronizing local businesses. However I will not accept poor customer service and rude employees. I cannot do business with a place that chooses to cast aside long term customer to chase down passersby for a lunch special. I won't return and I will let my friends know how you operate. read more
