When we walked in, we were greeted instantly and told we could choose anywhere to sit. Our waitress was almost over immediately to hand us menus and took our drink orders. The restaurant had a nice friendly ambiance to it. Seeming like this time a year, it was mainly for locals. There were one or two other people who walked in, who the staffed seemed to know. We ordered some of their garlic cheese bread as an appetizer. I order their southwest shrimp salad, and my wife ordered the cheese Italian bread pizza. We unfortunately were told that we needed to check in early to the place we were staying, so we asked if we could actually have our food to go, and the staff were so accommodating. We did have some of their garlic bread before we left, and it was crispy and fresh with nice gooey cheese. The marinara sauce was very flavorful too. The southwest shrimp salad I had was also delicious. The shrimp were cooked just right with a good amount of seasoning to them. The vegetables and tortilla strips were fresh and crunchy. The cilantro lime dressing also had a nice brightness to it, but also that creamy texture. We will definitely be back in the future when we come back to this area.

The hostess was amazing. Very friendly and welcoming.. I thought man a good start.. then it went drastically down hill. It took us over an hour and half to get and finish our meal. Waiter came over and seemed out of place. Took our orders for drinks and appetizers then disappeared. Our drinks came out slowly considering it was two waters and a lemonade. We ordered the garlic cheese curds. No plates to eat them on, no extra napkins.. They were good, nothing like omg I have to get again. We asked now for a Pepsi and Arnold Palmer with our dinner order.. drinks even slower than the last time came out.. no water refills to be seen. Then our food at this point should be done.. oh no waiter comes out..they are out of chicken fingers. Our child has to order something else.. choices were grilled cheese or pasta. We came here specifically because of the kids menu and tenders. That should have been told to us before even getting into the dining area. So I ask can you make a small kid burger? Nope! They are all premade burgers. They offer no alternative to a kids meal that has protein on it unless you want grilled cheese. What the actual hell. My kid has an issue with milk. They won't discount the adult meal that our kid won't fully finish. So a reasonable night went out the door. Was the waiter willing to ask a boss.. again nope.. no boss to be seen. Husband ordered the fish and was told to pick any side. He ordered poutine. I ordered the grilled chicken with poutine. My son was forced to get the fried chicken and we had to cut it up for him. No water refill or refill asked once our food hit the table. Didn't see our waiter again til he wanted to settle the bill. My chicken was ok. The chicken really should have been pounded thinner.. one side was very thick and the other was barely there. I wasn't impressed with the poutine, beyond swimming in gravy, too much. My sons chicken was huge so he only ended up eating 1/3 of it given he's a kid. Such a waste of money. My husbands fish was ok, it came out with chips on his plate and then the waiter brought poutine. he said the texture of the breading wasn't good. At home we have some of the best fish fry's and this one wasn't one of them. Here's the kicker.. get the bill.. it has full shot for all meals.. no man we messed up with your kids meal.. and they charged my husband extra for poutine. 4.50 for something that came with his meal. My meal was normal price. At this point we had been there for an hour and half with a child I wanted out so we just paid and left. If your looking to flush money down the toilet and spend an hour and half to two hours of your life on a meal.. this is the place.

The food is great -- fresh, flavourful, and clearly made with care. It's the kind of place you want to like. That said, for the price, the portions feel underwhelming. The smashburger, while tasty, is about the size of a standard McDonald's cheeseburger, and a handful of fries just doesn't cut it at this price point. A bit more generosity on the plate would go a long way in matching the quality of the experience with the value. Still worth a visit -- just don't come too hungry.

I only recall trying poutine when I was younger so I figured I'd give it another try. They have Poutine as a whole order, but I was glad to see that they have it as a side option. The food entries comes with a side of your choice (fries, house salad, sweet potato fries (+$2.99) , caesar salad (+$3.50), or poutine (+$3.50)). The portions of the food were huge, so you definitely get your bang for your buck here. Each dish was neatly placed and was so good! The bread from the club was crunchy yet soft and the chicken was moist. The ingredient felt very fresh! The poutine was a tad salty, but I think that is how poutine is? Since it's gravy and cheese (two salty ingredients). It was just the perfect amount to share with the family since we all just wanted a little bit to refresh our taste buds. My family also ordered the Chipotle Chicken Caesar Wrap with the house salad ($19.99); Fish and Chips ($19.99), and Grilled Chicken Club with the house salad ($19.99). The chipotle chicken caesar wrap was HUGE. My mom said it was very good and that it wasn't too overpowered with all the flavors and sauces. I was able to try a bite of her house salad and was also impressed by the fresh ingredients of the salad. You can tell it is a good salad when the salt actually crunches and does not just wilt there. The Fish and Chips were pretty good according to my brother in law. Crispy, not totally too greasy and a large piece on top. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our meal here in this small town. It had a cosy interior with very nice staff. FYI, the menu is located solely online! Reception could be a little spotty, so they have wifi for you in case you need it! If I could, I would give this place LESS than 1 star (Yelp should offer NEGATIVE stars because I…read morewouldn't even give this place the satisfaction of a negative Star!). I will NEVER set foot into this shit-hole again. I have a trailer home in the islands and I am a regular visitor to the islands now for close to 40 years. I frequent the areas bars, restaurants, clubs and entertainment venues and spend decent $$$ at each. Last night was the topper. It was Pirates Weekend in the Bay. I went into the Downtown Club. I was in full Pirate regalia. I was asked for proof (no problem, even if I'm 68, but I understand). I walked into the foyer to see if a good friend of mine was bartending. 2 bouncers aggressively came up to me and said, "where is your wrist band"? (Unknowingly that i even needed one). I said, "what wtistband? I'm just looking for ----- to see if hes bartending tonight. They said, he's not here today and told me to get the Fu** out. They forceably grabbed me by the back of my coat and PUSHED OUT THE DOOR". I was NOT being nasty at all to them (not in my nature), nor have I ever had any previous confrontations there. They were just plain overwhelmed and nasty because of the crowd and most likely put up with craziness all day long, but there was no reason for them to take out any of their aggression on me at all. Apparently they are charging $20 just to walk through the door and their drinks average, around $10 to $15 and up each, in a 9oz plastic cup. So if you want to spend a small fortune for little to nothing, this is your place to go. They have nothing to offer for a $20 admission. NO live music (just a DJ Spinning Tecno Music), NO Drink or food special, basically, NO NOTHING. In any respect, overwhelmed or not, that is no respectful way to treat a customer. I will NEVER GO THERE AGAIN. I work too hard for my money and I refuse to put ONE CENT over the bar of this inhospitable place. I know a lot of people whereas I am in entertainment and a personality in the Buffalo NY area and known throughout the country promoting my own genre. I may not know enough people to deter that would even frequent this hovel, to put them out of business, but I WILL do my utmost to get the word out to 10's of thousands of my contacts to avoid this place if theyre ever to visit Alexandria Bay. There's more CIVIL ways to handle a situation other than putting addle minded baboons at the door.

A great place to eat and drink with a great view of the St. Lawrence River and islands…read more Donnelly's On The River is a casual riverfront restaurant and bar located next to the Ivy Lea 1 Hour Cruise dock overlooking the St. Lawrence River and islands. The place has an indoor dining room, bar area and outside patio seating overlooking the river.  I stopped by for a late lunch recently on a sunny day. I headed to the patio where I decided to take in the riverfront views. I was given the light fare food menu which offers traditional Canadian pub fare including appetizers, wings, soups, salads, burgers, sandwiches, fish & chips, and pizzas. I got an ice water and decided on the Maritime Lobster Wrap ($19.95) served with fries and cole slaw, which was served to my table in under 10 minutes. The lobster wrap (cut in halves) was a good size with lettuce, shredded cheese, carrots, and a dense mix of shredded lobster meat in a mayo dressing. The fresh cut fries were firm and hot. The cole slaw (shredded cabbage, carrot, red cabbage) were crisp and creamy. After I was done, I was promptly given the check which came out to $22.54 CAD before tip or $17.11 USD before tip. Overall, a good choice for lunch on a very nice day. I watched several boats pass by as I ate my lunch.

The restaurant was not surprisingly empty as it was shoulder season and it was at 11am. I had a cup of seafood chowder, since I didn't want to just order a coke. The chowder was decent. The ingredients were good, but the soup itself was a bit bland. I didn't expect much from a seaside pub in rural Ontario to be honest though. Service was great, no complaints at all. I imagine their entrees are better looking at the few reviews.

First off, their website is odd. Not much information, quite confusing, sometimes it won't even load (on mobile device), so if you're trying to make a reservation, call them directly. Location, beautiful, along the river, great outdoor seating. I'm sure dinner and sunset is stunning. Good, it was okay. We ordered kids breakfast, huevos rancheros skillet thing, chicken and waffles, biscuit and gravy, and the whisky flight. The huevos ranchero was good, nothing to rave over but good. The chicken and waffles didn't come with syrup at first, I'm sure it was a mistake. The biscuit and gravy... looked amazing, but the biscuits were hard. Like rock hard, and even after sitting in the gravy, no moisture would come back. Haha Service... the lady was so sweet, but she kept forgetting us, she would place hot things right in front of the baby where she would easily grab it. She had a hard time splitting the bill. Ultimately we had to ask another waitress for water refill and splitting our bill. Maybe we will go back... but not in a rush.

I will say I was slightly disappointed with our curds. They were small and most were just empty pieces of batter. The people beside us got a beautifully breaded batch and much more. They tasted good, but still disappointed in the lack of curds (the empty ones). The fish was nice and light and not fishy at all. I really enjoyed the coleslaw and my husband likes the fries. It was just the right amount of crisp without being too much and the perfectly flaky fish. The price wasn't terrible and the lake view is very nice and relaxing.
