Came here for my brothers birthday and I was quite surprised with the ambience, service and food! I was here many many years ago and they redid it. Doesn't look it from outside but the inside is modern and very nicely done. And the food was delicous! We started with a few apps. Got the grilled calamari, and wow I must say, very impressed. Grilled PERFECTLY. It was tender, fresh, juicy and big! So so good I want more now. We also got the grilled octopus which was also super good, however it could have been a touch less cooked on the outside, it was on an iron skillet so I think it just cooked or burnt it a tad, but would get again for sure. We also got the boom boom shrimp. Delicous and shrimp were a good size. For dinner I got the filet mignon, medium rare and it was PERFECT and so delicous. My husband got the Skirt steak, also cooked perfect and delish. My brother got a seafood dish, I forgot the name of it but it was a definite must try dish if your craving seafood in a nice sauce. I returned with the same family for another experience. Again, the skillet was amazing. We tried the 2 flatbreads. The prosciutto and tomato was the best. The table was very big for 8 people. I enjoyed the space. The only downside of this experience was the service. We received the same flatbread when we ordered 2 different ones. Also, he just wasn't attentive as I recall the last time. They don't have to-go cups. If you have coffee, you need cups for the road. Overall, I will return because the food is that good. read more

Took my wife on a lunch date here during a day off. She had not been to this restaurant in many many years but often spoke about how much her mother liked it. It's changed a lot since she was last there so I wouldn't even compare the old and new. The staff here were all so nice and friendly. Very attentive to our needs although we were some of the first customers of the day and it wasn't very busy. Perfect for us at this time but according to everyone else, it gets very busy so I would be curious if the level of attention changes. I hope not because it was the staff that pushed my score from a 4 star review to a 5 star review. My wife and I shared the octopus appetizer. It comes out sizzling in some olive oil. Very tasty and different from what we normally consume. The bread came with it was toasted beautifully and was a great compliment to the pieces of tender tentacle meat. Packed a garlicy punch. My Sloppy Joe came with Turkey (Pastrami was the other option), swiss, russian dressing and cole slaw - a CLASSIC NJ sandwich. Three slices of toasted rye bread that I believe was homemade, hold this hefty sandwich together. It's really a classic sandwich and can be confused with a Reuben which is normally served warm and subs the cole slaw with sauerkraut. I only ate half but was pretty excited to bring it home for another meal. My wife had the shrimp and rice. Spanish rice with a lot of saffron flavor and an overall comforting yet simple dish. What was once a great steak place has been recreated by professional restaurant designers and it actually works. (It's been years since the retrofit). But it seems they keep improving the menu too. We came here on Christmas Eve and the dinner was fantastic. We go the the Paella Vallencia which all the seafood was cooked perfectly. The leftovers held up over a couple days. It gets VERY busy on Fridays and Saturdays nights. Anticipate a long wait for a table tends to be very noisy due to the large amount of people. I have been here three times and it's still not enough! The summer brought a lot of shore time for me and my friends. So finding hidden gems in the small towns down that way was a huge win! I first need to acknowledge the amazing waiter we had the one night who was not only pleasant but actually advised us are not ordering the bigger portions of things because he knew we would never finish it. The food was served in a very timely manner and I have to say, my mixed grill fajitas were excellent and plentiful. Shrimp, skirt steak and chicken and as good, of not better then any Mexican restaurant. My husband had the skirt steak and onions and my dad has the prime rib. Everyone was so happy! We went at an off hour, around 4pm so that probably made things less chaotic. I'm sure it gets pretty busy there. So all in all, it was a much better meal than I expected. So live and learn. Haven't been here in years so I was suprised when we walked in. The renovations are very nice and much brighter in there compared to before. It was packed on a Friday night. Too packed for me to want to sit inside. We sat outside and felt more comfortable given that Monmouth County has the highest Covid 19 rate in NJ. I had the mixta fajitas-beef and shrimp. There was plenty of tender meat but it was flavorless. Once i added siracha it was much better. There were 5-6 shrimp? It was a large dish but again, it needs more flavor. The sangria was delicious! Had lunch here yesterday for the first time. I wanted something light, so I ordered their lemon chicken salad and found it to be the perfect selection. It was just enough to satisfy my appetite without making me feel it for the remainder of the day. I was very happy. My only complaint about the salad - and this is probably a matter of personal preference - is that it was just greens with grilled chicken placed on top of the greens. I always prefer my salads mixed together rather than having the protein just sitting on top of a field of green. But again, this is probably just a personal preference of mine - so I'm just telling you so that you know. The wait staff was wonderful and friendly and the menu had many different selections to choose to from. Everything from a Chicken Parmesan to the aforementioned lemon chicken salad. Met our dear friend here for a her Birthday dinner. It was a busy night, yet the staff gave us top-notch service, with a smile (even through the masks). Joanne seated us and was so pleasant. Jim was our waiter. Even though he was super-busy, he took the time to give my friend some delicious, dinner suggestions. He was also so kind to take some pics of us, with my friends iphone, per her request. With the unrealistic restrictions placed on restaurants, "The Beast" feels it is extremely important when it is time for his feeding to support these independently owned restaurants that are doing everything to survive. I was summoned by "The Beast", so I picked up two of my favorite women in the world and off we went. The spot on the agenda was The Pine Tavern located at 151 Route 34, Old Bridge New Jersey. I had lived in Old Bridge for 10 years. My children and I would go here frequently prior to moving away. The Pine Tavern is located twenty minutes over the Outerbridge from Staten Island. About a year ago they went through a complete overhaul. The tavern now has an open concept with a square bar in the center for people to gather around. If not for the restrictions, this would be a great bar to "Pony" up to and talk with other patrons. Hopefully soon this will be reality. The menu consists of a variety of continental cuisine, including several types of salads, pastas and seafood. The Pine Tavern is known for and takes great pride in their "Grilled Meat" and "Parrilladas". For those not in the know, Parrilladas is a cuisine that originates from Argentina. It is a meal of grilled or barbequed mixed meat. The Pine Tavern also offers two seafood options of their Parrilladas. You can order the Parrilladas for one or two people. On Sundays, their menu mainly consists of entrees and their "Tavern Burger". However, during the week they have a lunch menu at a very reasonable price, featuring a variety of sandwiches. If you are on a lunch break from work, they will serve you promptly and you can get back to your day. Additionally, they are available for parties and catering. The staff was extremely accommodating, and the meal exceeded expectations. The chorizo appetizer had flavors that you were reminiscent of a fajita. The "Tavern Burger" was served on an English muffin and cooked at the right temperature. It was clear that the sauce for the penne and vodka sauce was homemade and the pasta was served Al dente. Then there was the "Frenched pork chop". The pork was tender and as you cut through it, the juices were dripping onto the plate. The taste of the char elevated the dish, adding flavor without it being overbearing. Food is consistently excellent evrytime, whether you go for lunch or dinner. Lunch is very reasonably priced (as long as you can resist a drink) dinner is pretty pricy however, and very hard to get a seat unless you time it right at the bar or have a reservation. Ambiance is really nice especially since they recently re did the whole inside. In regards to service, I've had good waiters and waitresses and bad ones so it really depends on who you get. There was one time I came in around 6 on a Friday night with my fiance and it was packed. I asked how long the wait was and she hostess in the rudest way possible was like, "oh were booked for the night". I guess they can get away with treating people like shut at times when their getting more than enough business lol. But I've still been there many times since and it's been great. My wife and I ate dinner here last night. I've eaten here several times before, a couple of times recently. A while ago I would have given 3 stars, but the food and service has improved immensely in recent days. It's a quiet holiday weekend, so we were seated immediately. Our server Melanie was excellent. She helped me decide on the seafood stew, which I believe I had ages and ages ago. Absolutely incredible. They serve it with yellow rice, which I dumped into the metal bowl, removed the shells, and dug in. Nice chunks of fish, plentiful shrimp, mussels, clams, tender calamari, etc. They do not give out free bread, many restaurants are saving a little money this way so I ordered the garlic bread for $2.50 so I would have something to dip into the well spiced broth. The bread was done perfectly, well buttered, crisp and garlicky. My wife had the grilled salmon with garlic mashed potatoes and green beans, with a side salad, and she couldn't stop raving about how great everything was. She's a dressing junky, so the raspberry vinaigrette made her evening. I was worried about the portion size but I wound up taking almost half the stew home. My wife also left a huge hunk of salmon for me to eat today! I recently had the salmon pan seared and I almost got it again but I'm glad I listened to the server after I mentioned the stew.
