This is the third and last time we go to Pine Tavern. If I could give them 0 or -5 stars I would. I ordered the cowboy skirt steak sandwich. There was minimal meat and what meat there was looked like kibble dog food. It was tough, tasteless and old. The bread was horrible as well. I would have been better off with a McDonalds Big Mac, at least going in I would know it would be "poop" food. In this way I was disappointed in "poop" from Pine Tavern. That sandwich and the extra $2.0 for fries was a total embarrassment. Needless to say I did not eat the entire mess. Diner microwaved food would have been better. read more

Absolutely love going here and recommending. I've had nothing but the best meals here. Skirt steak five star is unbeatable the porterhouse for two also unreal. The food is great at good prices. I met people I went to high school over 50 years ago there for lunch this past Saturday. There are no reservations, so we were put on a waiting list. We waited about ten minutes for a table. The restaurant ambiance is nice and cozy. I told the server right away that we wanted 3 separate checks : 1 for a couple, and 2 for the other individuals. The food came and we started eating. About ten minutes later, I wanted to order soda but our server was not around. She didn't come over to see if everything was okay or if we needed anything else. Another server came by who I ordered my soda from. When the bill arrived, the server brought only 2 checks not 3. She said they were already printed. I specifically said 3 separate checks. So I didn't make a big thing out of it and two of us figured out our share. But I explicitly said 3 checks. I was disappointed with the service. read more

They have a large variety of good food. We've been here thrice for dinner. We like the outdoor (sort of) garden seating. My husband likes the paella. Our friends like the burgers. Came here for my brothers birthday and I was quite surprised with the ambience, service and food! I was here many many years ago and they redid it. Doesn't look it from outside but the inside is modern and very nicely done. And the food was delicous! We started with a few apps. Got the grilled calamari, and wow I must say, very impressed. Grilled PERFECTLY. It was tender, fresh, juicy and big! So so good I want more now. We also got the grilled octopus which was also super good, however it could have been a touch less cooked on the outside, it was on an iron skillet so I think it just cooked or burnt it a tad, but would get again for sure. We also got the boom boom shrimp. Delicous and shrimp were a good size. For dinner I got the filet mignon, medium rare and it was PERFECT and so delicous. My husband got the Skirt steak, also cooked perfect and delish. My brother got a seafood dish, I forgot the name of it but it was a definite must try dish if your craving seafood in a nice sauce. Good portions too! We got the pistachio ricotta something dessert and it was really good! We were all surprised lol. I returned with the same family for another experience. Again, the skillet was amazing. We tried the 2 flatbreads. The prosciutto and tomato was the best. The table was very big for 8 people. I enjoyed the space. The only downside of this experience was the service. We received the same flatbread when we ordered 2 different ones. Also, he just wasn't attentive as I recall the last time. They don't have to-go cups. If you have coffee, you need cups for the road. Overall, I will return because the food is that good. read more

Took my wife on a lunch date here during a day off. She had not been to this restaurant in many many years but often spoke about how much her mother liked it. I hope not because it was the staff that pushed my score from a 4 star review to a 5 star review. My wife and I shared the octopus appetizer. It comes out sizzling in some olive oil. Very tasty and different from what we normally consume. The bread came with it was toasted beautifully and was a great compliment to the pieces of tender tentacle meat. Packed a garlicy punch. My Sloppy Joe came with Turkey (Pastrami was the other option), swiss, russian dressing and cole slaw - a CLASSIC NJ sandwich. Three slices of toasted rye bread that I believe was homemade, hold this hefty sandwich together. It's really a classic sandwich and can be confused with a Reuben which is normally served warm and subs the cole slaw with sauerkraut. I only ate half but was pretty excited to bring it home for another meal. My wife had the shrimp and rice. Spanish rice with a lot of saffron flavor and an overall comforting yet simple dish. We came here on Christmas Eve and the dinner was fantastic. We go the the Paella Vallencia which all the seafood was cooked perfectly. The leftovers held up over a couple days. The female manager Joann was condisending over a takeout order that could have easily have been corrected. I have been here three times and it's still not enough! The summer brought a lot of shore time for me and my friends. So finding hidden gems in the small towns down that way was a huge win! I'm going to say two things be ready to wait and go on an empty stomach because the portions are incredible and so reasonably priced. I first need to acknowledge the amazing waiter we had the one night who was not only pleasant but actually advised us are not ordering the bigger portions of things because he knew we would never finish it. I think his name was Jim or John . I wish I could remember because he was amazing and the bartenders they are very pleasant as well. Everything item there is fresh and tasty. We ordered a fish dish that was for two but we still left with leftovers!! I also suggest the mashed sweet potato side dish. I won't share those lol! The food was served in a very timely manner and I have to say, my mixed grill fajitas were excellent and plentiful. Shrimp, skirt steak and chicken and as good, of not better then any Mexican restaurant. My husband had the skirt steak and onions and my dad has the prime rib. Everyone was so happy! We went at an off hour, around 4pm so that probably made things less chaotic. I'm sure it gets pretty busy there. So all in all, it was a much better meal than I expected. So live and learn. Haven't been here in years so I was suprised when we walked in. The renovations are very nice and much brighter in there compared to before. It was packed on a Friday night. Too packed for me to want to sit inside. We sat outside and felt more comfortable given that Monmouth County has the highest Covid 19 rate in NJ. I had the mixta fajitas-beef and shrimp. There was plenty of tender meat but it was flavorless. Once i added siracha it was much better. There were 5-6 shrimp? It was a large dish but again, it needs more flavor. The sangria was delicious! Jim was our waiter. Even though he was super-busy, he took the time to give my friend some delicious, dinner suggestions.
