From a classic to an Empower or Reform class, I am challenged every single day and I appreciate that each studio changes their routine frequently. This location is extra cute because you can early tell there is a sense of community. The instructor announced that there would be a book club held next week and there were even Polaroid photos of members that finished recent challenges. I started doing barre last year, and this was my first experience with it. I have a pre-existing knee injury that severely limits my ability to do any interesting workouts. I found barre and I was sold. It exhausted me, it was rewarding, and I seriously got so much stronger so quickly! It is an amazing experience. The teachers are motivating, the classes are inclusive of all body types and abilities, and everyone is kind. The goal is to get stronger - not hotter, skinnier, etc., which I really, really appreciate. The customer service is also fantastic! I have had some issues with my knee and as such have had to stop going recently. The customer service team worked with me to pause my account indefinitely so that by the time I come back, I won't be paying any additional fees or increased payments. They respond promptly to concerns, and are always apologetic if something goes wrong. I've never been worried about feeling heard with them. The location itself is very convenient, and has great hours. They have classes ranging from 6am to the evening, which I really appreciate! It's such a cute place, and is always sparkling clean. This cozy studio off Farmington Ave. has everything you need for a great workout. This class was my first time doing pilates with the reformer machine, and Mary was sure to explain everything and help us perfect our form. She was so calming and knowledgeable; you can tell she is passionate about her job and her clients. The workout was much more difficult than I thought it would be-in a good way! Of course Mary makes all the moves look so easy, but I could definitely feel it in my legs and thighs the next morning. Even through a short, introductory session, I could see how regularly attending classes like this would help get that toned look. Drop-ins are $35, but there is a 3 for $20 deal going on now. Mary is also Barre certified, so I am looking forward to trying one of those classes, too!

She had a sunny disposition and clearly loves teaching and is invested in the health of her clients. We started with learning all the basics of the reformer and perfecting our form. It was such a smooth machine and a heck of a good workout! We worked a lot on activating our core, inner & outer thighs and glutes. Under Mary's guidance we focused on breathing techniques to get the most out of each position. I had a great time in the sunny little studio which is located only a couple minutes off 84! I left another message - no response. What boggles my mind is economies fluctuate. Turning away a potential paying customer does not make any sense, ever. Sooner or later, leaner times may come and they may need more customers. It doesn't do anybody any good to alienate a potential customer. I really would've liked to take private reformer lessons here as it was recommended to me. I never got the chance to even set up an appointment.

Her classes are dynamic, thoughtful, and expertly designed. You can tell she puts so much care into every session. She knows exactly how to push you without overwhelming you, and she always explains the "why" behind the movement, which has helped me build not just strength, but body awareness. You can start with individual sessions for an assessment or if you just prefer that setting. Libby's class is warm and welcoming which is particularly nice if you are just joining the community. Try a few instructors to figure out which styles work best for you and there are plenty of harder classes if that is what you're looking for. Julie, the admin, is friendly and responsive. The classes are expensive, but I clear my mind, get stronger and more flexible, and I actually look forward to going!

Then Susan opened Core Barre, and I joined, and it has been the best experience ever. The instructors Susan, Donna, Sarah, and now Liz are motivating, kind, and very tuned in to where you are at in your work out. There is a very warm accepting vibe, and the competition aspect is gone, so you can truly get the work out you need. I vote for Core Barre as the best place around not only for the expertise in fitness they have to offer, but the family friendly feel Susan and her instructors give to the place each and every time you go.
