I would give this studio ten stars if it were possible. I first came to Nirvana Yoga 12 years ago…read more I had been interested in yoga for a while and had done some on my own. I had practiced at another studio but was not comfortable there. I first went to Nirvana when my daughter had broken her foot during a dance competition. Since she couldn't dance for a while I thought yoga would be good for her. It seemed like a nice mother-daughter thing to do. At my first class, I fell in love with the practice, and Ruth Anne, who was my first teacher there. The experience was calming and felt really good in my body. I enjoyed it so much I have been back nearly every day since then. Ruth Anne made me and my daughter felt comfortable and reassured. She said that if there was anything we didn't want to do it was ok. She gave very good and specific instructions. I felt that there was always safety in mind. I was able to reach a point of relaxation that I hadn't experienced before. I appreciate the variety of postures formats offered at the studio. The difficulty level always seems just right for me. Often I will go to class and it seems that Ruth Anne knows exactly what I need that day. All this led me to want to learn more so I decided to take the Nirvana teacher training and become a yoga teacher. That experience was life-changing. It allowed me to feel more comfortable with my own practice and to be able to share how good I felt through the practices of yoga and meditation in hopes that others will experience their own wonderful practice of yoga. Thank you Ruth Anne for your extensive knowledge of postures, anatomy, philosophy, Buddhism and your ability to empower student teachers to speak, demonstrate and communicate well. I highly recommend this studio to anyone who is just starting yoga, or who is looking for a high-quality studio to continue their studies, or seeking a life-changing Yoga Teacher training.

I want to compliment Studio Helix for offering the Pilates classes taught by Bob Hannum. I…read morerecently saw Bob's Pilates videos online and became one of his students. Because my health and conditioning improved so much, I wondered where Bob taught live lessons. Turned out he taught at Studio Helix in Northampton, MA. My hat is off to residents in that area because they can get a good teacher in the flesh, while I live in Los Angeles and can only replay his videos over and over. Students wanting a good Pilates teacher can get one by visiting Studio Helix and signing up for Bob Hannum's classes. He's got the Pilates principles insight, pace and movement training, experience with students at all levels and abilities, and expertise to win my trust and confidence as a continued student. I do Pilates for me, but would go to Studio Helix for the live teacher experience and group motivation. If you make the effort to get to the studio and take B. Hannum's Pilates class, don't underestimate the value of teacher observation and feedback in your learning process, especially when students doing physical exercises can be off or develop little bad habits. To be able to follow his pace is another benefit of being there.

This is a follow-up so you need to read my earlier review…read more My elbow has been feeling much better. I have not have to wear an elbow brace to do the same exercises that I do in my gym regularly. His advice worked well. It, not only, diminished the pain in my elbow but the pain has not been coming back or increasing. The pain has been constantly decreasing. Pain relapse in my elbow had always been a problem. My past providers, except my PCP/ortho doctor who was a big joke, would do ultrasound and soft tissues in my elbow and arm. The pain would subside but they would all come back after a few days, some longer than others. Dr. Brady was the only one who did not even touch my arm or my elbow in treating my elbow pain (official diagnosis of my pcp/ortho was right medial epicondylitis). He worked on my chest muscles and posture to address my elbow pain. To him, my elbow was not the problem. To him, my elbow was telling me that I have problems somewhere else. My knee has also been constantly improving ever since he taught me how to walk and stand properly -- again, it was the posture. My back is the only one that has been a bit stubborn (like its owner) but it is also improving. The stretch exercises that he taught me for my back complements well the back stretches that Matt Shaw of the BU Athletic Enhancement Center taught me. The combined stretches from these people seem to be the best fit for my back problem (hopefully) currently. I like the fact that he is a very approachable person. He does answer my questions via e-mail on his own time (without additional charges or complaints from him).

I came in specifically for new orthotics. I hadn't had orthotics in over a year and was long…read moreoverdue. They use a scanner that measures the alignment of your feet. There is no margin for error. The scan goes to a facility that makes them specifically for you. I forgot the exact amount, but they're in the neighborhood of $300. Call them to double check. Again, these are custom tailored just for you. A very knowledgeable chiropractor with probably over 3 decades of experience helps you personally with the process. He's great! He's the only one who fits your orthotics. This is for anyone who has challenges with their alignment because of their feet. Ex: You receive chiropractic, osteopathic manual therapy, PT or massage therapy and no matter what you feel the treatment doesn't hold up. You know your somatic practitioner is amazing but your feet are preventing the treatments from fully helping you. Or you just have serious problems standing on your feet. I'm both. I receive monthly osteopathic treatment from my Osteopath. A doctor in a hospital. Though not an MD, a DO takes the same amount of schooling. A DO can prescribe medication and they can perform surgery just like an MD. They are not Nurse practitioners. Or PTs. My osteopath specializes in manual therapy. I highly recommend getting orthotics here. It's a great office. If I weren't seeing my osteopath, I would consider seeing the chiropractor who fit my orthotics. He's also the trainer of the gym. The gym is probably great for someone who lives nearby with alignment issues. Great overall environment.

Not for me. Did not vibe with the head guy. During the initial training sessions you need to do…read morebefore you can use the gym on your own, I felt that the trainer was more concerned about where I put my water bottle down than what my form looked like during an exercise. He would also just sort of walk away while we were counting reps, so I never knew when to start/stop. One time I caught him stretching with his eyes closed when I thought he was watching my form. I also felt fat-shamed, even though I clearly explained up front that I've struggled with eating disorders for years. (Believe me, I already hate myself and feel ashamed, I don't need his help!) I guess some people like it a lot. Honestly, at 62, I felt I was too young too be there! Very nice building and location and friendly support staff. I went about 3-4 times and just didn't go back. No follow-up BTW, even though I am still owed sessions.
