I'd love to start off by saying the service was great! The man who was working by himself was very friendly. I ordered the Philly steak & fries with a chicken eggroll on the side. The Philly steak was a little dry and needed a little more flavor. I still enjoyed it. I'm trying to leave my bias out because I am personally a fan of tidewater Philly steak in Norfolk. I would for sure try it again, though. Maybe it was just an off morning. Now the eggroll? Absolutely delicious! It was sooo hot, but I still managed to eat it all haha. I say if you're in the area, please give them a try. The staff is really friendly. Only recommendation I'd have is maybe time management. It took about 30 minutes for me to get my food. Customer service at the register was good but I ordered a large cheese with provolone b/c American cheese makes me sick to my stomach....and I get home and my sandwich has white American on it so I totally wasted $17 b/c I couldn't eat it. I got takeout from The Philly Cheesesteak Cafe. Theres street parking out front. While waiting someone hit my daughters car. So make sure you leave enough space, because some people can't parallel park!! You can order online, by phone, or in person. Our order only took about 15 mins. The restaurant was clean and the staff was friendly. My kids got cheesesteak subs and i got fish with hot honey sauce and fries. I enjoyed my fish, but beware there are bones. The sauce was really tasty. Their housemade spicy sauce was pretty good also. They sell it by the bottle if you wanna take some home. My kids enjoyed their subs, but i thought it was slightly salty. Went here b/c I'm quite a philly cheesesteak junkie. So much so that if you check out my reviews you'll see that as a common theme. There's a local to HR Cheesesteak place that is absolutely to die for. However, I can only cross the toll and pay to park so many times before I at least look to other feasible options. Went here and it's definitely a small family restaurant that I love. I have an affinity to favor supporting small, local businesses. When we went in, the engagement by staff wasn't really there. I was a little confused by the menu options and when I asked questions, the lady didn't have any answers. I tried to keep a positive note about everything but it just wasn't happening. A must try! I came here a long while back when they used to be in another location and I'm so happy I finally found them again & closer to my home. First impression MATTERS. He stated that he's a very busy man and he has a lot of customers. I say "okay but customer service" then he proceeds to tell me that he's the boss and he runs things then hangs up, AGAIN! It is hard finding a good salmon cheesesteak and once upon a time this was my go to. This salmon was stretched thinnn and lacked flavor. The bun wasn't even toasted smh just straight out of the bag to the styrofoam. I decided to give them another chance and this time there was more salmon and salty! I couldn't even enjoy it and my family spent $300 on food just for none of it to be good. I'm big on supporting black businesses and knowing that their food is getting worse is upsetting. Firstly, the sauce, made for cheese steak egg rolls , was out of this freaking world!!! I did not use it all on my sandwich, I used a small spoon and ate the rest of it out of the cup!!!...so, so good The bread had a really nice texture, tender meats and fresh toppings. My son, who is a big foodie, said it was great. I never hear him use those words because he is a critic when it comes to his palette. Over all, great experience. The customer service here is horrible. I order my food ($46) online today, August 24th at 13:50. Once I completed my order and paid for it said that it would be ready in 30 minutes. I arrived at the restaurant just before 14:20 and was told that my order wasn't ready yet, so I patiently waited outside. After 20 minutes I noticed the cooks standing outside taking a break so I went back into the restaurant and asked if my order was ready and was told they hadn't started making it yet. So I waited another 40 minutes and finally received my order. I asked for ranch sauce for my wings and they gave me a Papa John's container of ranch. Oh, it gets better, the mayo, peppers, onions and bell peppers I requested on my Philly was not there. The other Philly only had cheese and fries on it, it was VERY DRY. So I called the restaurant and spoke with a young lady that said I could get a refund and never mentioned that I needed to return the food, which I could've done had I known. Once I arrived back to the store the gentleman behind the counter said that he was the owner and I could no longer receive a refund unless I brought the food back. Lol I don't live around the corner from this establishment, so I had no interest in going back up there. This what happens when you try to support your people. Very cheesy which is good but I'm very upset . First off the sub must have been ready like an hour before it was prepared because I came 20 min before the pickup tome and it was already ready on the counter just waiting. This isn't my first time getting sub so I was confused on the lack of of other condiments that are usually on the sub like lettuce and mayo because the sub is so rich with the cheese whiz , it's becomes incredibly salty due to the lack of balance in flavors. Being that we live in Va Beach I hesitated to take the 30 min ride there and back but I got my husband to drive and BOY were we pleasantly happy we did! Ordered a cheesesteak, fries, and the egg rolls both chicken and beef. We started off with just the beef egg roll. Needless to say it was so good we turned around and ordered more, and took another customers recommendation to get the chicken ones - which were just as good. So good that my picky eater daughter devoured it! The cheesesteak itself is the best I've ever had, and I've had one from philly. No comparison at all. I ordered the whole which was more than plenty. Had tons of meat and you definitely get your money's worth. Got the special sauce to put on it and it made it even better. Overall, very pleased with this place. My only wish is that it was closer. Had a family that recommended this restaurant because I normally travel to Granby St area through tunnel for Cheesesteak. So I tried them today because I was not in mood to pay more tolls. When I arrived they were quite busy but I was greeted by the cashier when I walked in. She made a few suggestions and explained their menu to me when it was my turn to go. I tried the Vick (which is a mix of steak and chicken Philly) all the way, chips, and soda. When I got the sub home I opened the box and loved the amount of fresh lettuce on the sandwich and chunks of tomatoes. The first big Philly bite I took was a good one full of meat, cheese, onions, lettuce, tomato, and peppers. The only thing I did not like was that my bread was weakened in structure by the heat, mayo, and oil/vinegar from the sandwich. I wish the bread was toasted instead. Next time I go back I will definitely ask if that's a possibility. I also did not care for the fact that adding fries/chips and a drink to a sandwich doesn't present a discounted price or combo. This place is takeout and the cheesesteak sandwiches are good but they could be better. They don't put enough cheese on them to suit me and I always ask for extra, extra, extra. I always say I am willing to pay more to get more cheese but so far they haven't charged me and even with all that they still don't put on enough cheese. The last time I also ordered a bag of chips and the outside if the bag was super greasy. I had to use 4 napkins to wipe it off to avoid getting grease on my clothes. This place could easily be 5 stars with a couple minor changes. They seem to do a brisk take out business but there are better cheesesteak sandwiches in the 757. I won't mention where. My first experience with the Western Branch Blvd location and let me say it was absolutely awful. When I called to order 6 cheesesteaks, the young lady answering the phone asked me to hold, so I did. I heard her taking food orders and every time she finished with a taking the order, she didn't pick up the phone to take my order. Instead, I heard background noise or silence. This went on for about 45 minutes, so we decided to drive to the location staying on hold the whole way (approximately another 25 minutes). When we arrived, the phone was sitting on the counter next to the young lady who answered the phone when we called, and she was playing on her cell phone. There were 4 patrons in the restaurant who appeared to be awaiting receipt of their orders. I placed my order for the 6 cheesesteaks and paid for it via credit card. I watched the young lady continuously looking at her cell phone. Keep in mind that I'm still on hold on my cell phone. When I received my order, I asked the young lady who answered the phone/took my order to speak with the manager. The manager wasn't at the restaurant, so the cook came to speak with me. I showed the cook my cell phone which was still connected to their phone and asked him did he recognized the phone number, He did not. At this point, I had been on hold for 1 hour and 31 minutes. When I explained to him about the young lady conduct after she took my order, and that this was a bad look for the establishment, his response was (a) why did I stay on hold so long and (b) they were extremely busy (which of course wasn't true). Then a lady came to speak to me (don't know who she was) and I explained the situation to her. She gave me the same crappy excuse as the cook and also added "it's a courtesy they're providing to allow me to order food over the phone). Wow!! What poor customer service!! To make matters worse, none of the Styrofoam containers were marked with their contents, so we had to guess what was what when we were ready to eat, and the flavor of the cheesesteaks was sub-par. My coworker told me about this place while we were swapping restaurant recommendations. I decided to go one Saturday when the original place I wanted to visit had a line down the street. I arrived a little after 1 and there was one other person inside placing a large order. She ordered 7 subs and I was thinking that my lil order was going to be held up behind hers, but it wasn't **YAY** I ordered a half cheesesteak with everything on it and a rainbow water ice. They were out of rainbow, so I got orange mango. The water ice came first and while it was refreshing, I wasn't a fan of the flavor. It was bland. After about a five minute wait my sandwich was ready. I only live 3 minutes away, so I went home and demolished it. It was perfect. The bread was soft, but didn't fall apart and the meat was tender and well seasoned.
