We have used Pet Ranch before, but it's been a few years. We just took our boys there for a day visit and they came home and drank a whole bunch of water, like they had been without all day. They told us our boys had some anxiety and nervousness and when they went in with other dogs, they acted shy and standoffish. For a first time evaluation and daycare, you would think the staff would know how to introduce dogs to others in a fashion that would make them comfortable. I mean how are dogs suppose to react with they aren't normally boarded like this. Our dogs are very social at the dog park and in general. My wife asked where they had been all day, and they said they had been separated but saw dogs in passing. Which made us think they had been in a kennel all day. Regardless our boys will NOT be going back...Very bad experience. read more

Really wanted to take our dog there...couple things to note. System was down and didn't call until day 3. All they had was bigger rooms at $60 a night and would not honor a smaller room rate when who knows if they actually had something but system was down?? Please note this review is regarding overnight boarding only. I boarded my dogs at The Pet Ranch for five nights. The price is reasonable and I did like that I could have my dogs sleep together. I also appreciate that they allow you to bring items for your pets like blankets and toys. I requested updates on my dogs during their stay. After three days of hearing nothing I began reaching out and had to ask multiple times for updates before being told "they're super cute and doing fine" which is wonderful but not much of an update, ya know? My dogs were both quite skittish when I dropped them off (they had both had vet visits in the days preceding their stay and they are always skittish in public after getting their vaccines because they think everyone is a vet) and I was not super reassured that the staff didn't seem to know what to do or how to lead them back to the kennels and asked me to help them despite not allowing me back (which is totally understandable, there are other people's fur babies there and it's a liability to let the public around other dogs) so I was pretty anxious to hear how they were adjusting to their new surroundings. More on that later. When I booked my dogs' stay I was told that I would be able to pick my dogs up after my flight landed 25 minutes after business hours ended. I thought nothing of it as kennels should be staffed overnight and in the past I have never had an issue with other daycares and kennels. I was told to call and check in with someone named Matt the day before coming home to make sure and verify a plan for getting my dogs. I was told that someone would have to come in to give me my dogs and that I was essentially asking too much. Matt was not able to clarify for me why a staff member would not already be present to give me my dogs. He made it very clear that he had no intention of allowing me to get my dogs that night but told me "let me think about what can be done" which is the customer service equivalent of "I have no answer for you that you want to hear" which is fine. If it's a rule, it's a rule. I am not someone who asks for special treatment and I would have never had this conversation had I not been told prior to booking that it wouldn't be an issue. Unfortunately my work schedule would not allow me to pick up my dogs for another three days after I got back to town and having this brought to my attention while I am thousands of miles away was not ideal. I will say Matt was very professional on the phone, at times dismissive or evasive but not rude, to his credit, but it was a little sketchy that I couldn't get a straight answer on why someone would have to come in or stay late and why it seems no one is there overnight. That just doesn't seem safe. Thanks to a good friend, my dogs were retrieved the next morning. And they sprinted out the door. My dogs are not fans of the car and tend to resist leaving places they like. Red flag. I get home and see that one of my dogs is pooping strips of her blanket. And her blanket is half missing. She had done this once prior when I had to place her on kennel rest after she was spayed to protect her incision, and she got anxious and bored being cooped up. Red flag. My dogs get sleepy after a single day of daycare. They were completely wound up following five days at The Pet Ranch. Red flag. Combined with the fact that no one could give me any actual information about how my dogs were doing during their stay, I'm suspicious that they were locked in their room alone, with very little contact with people or other dogs, despite me requesting extra play and cuddle time (which are options provided by The Pet Ranch, not special requests). Certainly not worth over $400 for their stay. Overall... there is absolutely no way I feel safe leaving my pets there overnight again and I strongly recommend that you avoid it too. Daycare may be a different story but after the experience we had with boarding I don't intend to find out. read more

We have used Pet Ranch for years. At the beginning it was amazing. Our dogs loved it. The owners knew our dogs by name when they came in. They have recently sold and the quality has dropped off. They do not communicate in a timely manner. It might take them 12+hrs to return a call or text. THEY NEVER ANSWER THE PHONE! Like never! ! When your animal is sick this is not acceptable. Because of this lack of communication we had to cancel our stay and scramble for other accommodations or risk cancelling our vacation. read more

my pup went for a test day for doggy daycare, which is an activity we have done before elsewhere and has been great...just looking for the right fit for us for what is offered and location. staff reported noticing a limp halfway through the full day our dog attended that had not been present earlier on, and told us this at pickup time at the very end of the business day. we were not notified of any issues throughout the day, and the solution was instead to separate our dog from the rest of the group. I would have immediately come to pickup our puppy had I known something was potentially wrong. I am disappointed in how this situation was handled and sad to know my pup was put in that position when I easily could have come to pickup, especially having known Pet Ranch from my family dog boarding there while I was growing up. read more

The reason why I give this place a one is due to their business practice integrity. I got a quote to get my dog bathed for $40 due to his breed and hair. When I dropped him off for his appointment, they told me when I could pick him up and confirmed the $40 price quote. When I came to pick him up at the time they told me, they said they weren't done and told me to comeback in an hour. When I finally got him, they told me that his bath was going to be $85 and not the original $40 they quoted. Even the manager came out and said I know you were quoted $40, but we decided to change the quote after you left. Overall, I do not believe this business has integrity. read more

We have an odd number of dogs (3) so it is great that The Pet Ranch has larger kennels that can accommodate all of them instead of having a max of 2 dogs per kennel. They were all bathed when we picked them up and they totally crashed the rest of the night. I'm glad they had a good time during our vacation out of town! read more

We were so pleased with the kind service we received when we took our pup to be groomed. Tammy seemed to genuinely like our pup and understood his temperament. She was able to work with his busy personality and still give him a great cut! She explained everything she did and even gave me tips on how to take care of his coat. This place was flat awesome. I'm from the OP area and was visiting my family and when we took a small road trip, needed a place for my Great Dane and Basset Hound (yes I know, silly combination) to stay. We are always worried about boarding the Dane not only because of her size but because of bloat and other things. Pet Ranch was amazing!!! Courteous from the very first phone call, to check in to check out. We even had some questions after we checked out and not only did we get in touch with their vet, but the Asst Mgr made sure we were satisfied, even on the 4th of July! We're the pet parents to 3 English Bulldogs. We don't leave town very often partly because I dread leaving my 3 "fur babies" and I'm the type who calls in to check on them when I am gone. We have used The Pet Ranch on 4-5 occasions. 3 of these were several years ago and my dogs got kennel cough so I didn't go back. (Side note: dogs can get kennel cough even if they are vaxed). However, this year we had several trips planned. I was driving by and they have huge horse paddocks and honestly I don't know what I'm thinking but I called them to book my dog's first stay. I came and picked my 3 up and they seem fine, no issues. Then yesterday happened. We were away for 4 nights and we come back and all 3 of my dogs are snotty. Mind you the cost is $360 for 4 nights and then whammo a $200 vet bill today for 3 sick animals. It basically costs us as much as our trip did. I also want to add that when I asked them if the dogs ever went outside, ever? The answer was no. Now, I understand they do sell (for an added fee) walks on a leash so maybe that would get your dog outside? Also, they sell a membership that could get you a pass so you can come and walk your dog on their property but this has nothing to do with boarding. The boarded pets aren't running around on acres of land or anything. Anyway my dogs have now gotten sick 3 times from going there and that's in my vet records. That's out of 4-5 times of coming in. read more

We have used the Pet Ranch several times over many years. Recently we have noticed customer service has been nothing short of a train wreck. They absolutely never answer the phone when calling during open hours and it is about 50/50 they return a message you leave. We were supposed to have our dogs bathed prior to leaving for their latest visit and not only were they not bathed the attendant lied about it and said they could still bath them but we would have to wait to pick up. Without answering the phone you can never receive an update on how the dog's stay is going and I'm sorry but if you are so close on margins you can't have a dedicated person answer and returning calls you need to look deeper into your business plan. We have finally had enough and will never return even though they are 5 minutes from our house. read more

We have taken our 2 dogs to Pet Ranch for over 7 years for grooming & occasional boarding. They were top notch until the last 3 weeks. Their groomer moved out of town earlier this year & I assumed the new groomer would be taking over the clientele. I called 3 weeks ago to schedule appointments. I left a message with the front desk for the groomer. No one called. I left a voicemail 2 weeks ago, no one called. I finally got ahold of someone this week, but was told the groomer wasn't accepting new clients. New? We've been clients there for 7+ years! But yet the groomer is seeing some of the old clients, because my mom got her dog in. This info would've been nice to know 3 months ago so I could try to get grooming appts someplace else! My dogs are older (12) & getting them into someplace new is going to be very stressful on them. I have since spoken with the manager, who was supposed to talk to the groomer & call me back today. I wanted to like this place. I was excited to have my two dogs board here because it is a huge place and our dogs can board together in the same stall. After boarding them for ten days I picked them up. Neither one had a bath, which they claimed was included. One of the blankets was completely shredded by our dog which they never do at home. Our 80 pound dog was about 50 pounds and looked horrible. He had diarrhea for a week, waking us up through the night to go out. You could tell they had tightened his collar about an inch when he was with them. He was all ribs and looked awful. We called to get answers and they have yet to call us back. Absolutely horrible! I set boarding for my puppy up over email. I received confirmation and drop off instructions. On the day we are leaving town we show up to drop off our puppy and I am told they don't have the reservation. After showing the attendant the email confirmation I had, he blamed it on a bad coworker and said he would "figure it out" and took our puppy inside. I reserved and paid for a 6 x 12 run for our dog. When I picked him up he was covered nearly head to toe with urine and feces. Even his leash was dripping with urine. Obviously, he was not in a 6 x 12, and not given the opportunity to relieve himself outdoors like advertised. This place does not care about your animals -- STAY AWAY!!! read more

The Pet Ranch is where I tell all of my friends with pit bulls to take their dogs. Unlike other local boarding and daycare facilities, this one is not breed restrictive (for its own or municipal reasons). The dog I boarded there was actually a problem dog, but he did great under the staff's care for two days. From the moment I walked into the trading-post-style lobby, he and I were both comfortable. Knowing that he was not a good candidate for playgroup, they agreed to give him solo exercise time on the sprawling Pet Ranch campus. He was in a great mood when I picked him up. Fun Fact: The Pet Ranch people are also involved in making Emunity emu jerky treats, some of the best local snacks you can get for your dog. read more

Our dog has some anxiety around other dogs, but she has done great at Pet Ranch! We take her there occasionally for boarding when we travel. They discovered that she does better in the play group with the smaller, older dogs instead of the ones her size. This reduces her anxiety and she has become more social and friendly with the other dogs. The facility is huge and very nice. The staff has always been very friendly and accommodating. They do a nice job with her baths at the end of her stay as well. We will keep bringing our dog to Pet Ranch! read more

We've used Pet Ranch twice now since we've moved back to the Kansas City area. The grooming services are great and our fur kids seem to enjoy being able to play as much as they do, but both times our younger dog has come home with kennel cough. Both dogs are vaccinated for everything but it's not 100% protection. This time it's much worse than last. We'll probably go elsewhere next time. It's not worth having a miserably sick dog and a vet bill each time we pick them up. read more

I always feel safe leaving my dog here. The people that work here seem to truly love dogs and spend more time with them than at most other kennels. I am grateful that they let him mingle with other dogs, take him on multiple walks, and spoil him with treats. My dog always comes very happy after staying here, which was NOT the case when we left him at the vet's. This is a huge facility with plenty of room to roam for dogs of all sizes. We love Pet Ranch and so does our beloved dog, Willy. They are so accommodating and kind. Pet Ranch is always our go to place for boarding. Our dog travels everywhere with us but when traveling consist of a plane ride, we have to leave him behind. We travel a lot for work so things always come up last minute. But, we can always call and they are sure happy to update you on how your pet is doing. Around the holidays, it can get busy so make sure you book ahead. We can always leave there feeling comfortable with our dog staying over the night or even for 2 weeks. The whole staff loves our boy, he gets plenty play time and cuddle time. He is always tired when we pick him up but that's because we know he thoroughly enjoyed his stay with Pet Ranch! read more

The folks at Pet Ranch are amazing. They genuinely love animals and they always do a great job boarding our two Siberian Huskies! Unlike at a few other places we have boarded, our dogs are excited to see us when we return. This is one of the few places our dogs love to be dropped off too. You can find cheaper places to board your dogs, but in my opinion, it is money well spent to know our dogs are being loved and well cared for while we are gone! read more

We purchased a ten day daycare package and used seven of those days. It was extremely difficult to get a reservation for those seven days, too. They are ALWAYS booked up. When I went to register a second dog for daycare, they told me they weren't taking any more daycare reservations until AFTER LABOR DAY. What? This is mid-June! We had three days left on our package, and I got them to issue me a refund. Waiting ten weeks to get a dog into daycare is ridiculous. We'll take them to Woof's in Olathe, which is just as good and will always take our dogs. The Pet Ranch is excellent -- when you are fortunate enough to get in -- which is rarely. We took our to the Pet Ranch to board for a weekend. The facilities are very clean and the staff is friendly. I could tell right away that the staff loved dogs! They allowed us to bring our dogs favorite toys and blanket so that he would feel comfortable. The boarding arrangements were spacious and our 60lb dog was very comfortable. The play area is inside and is massive. It looked like all of the dogs were having a good time playing and there was always someone around to observe and make sure there weren't any dog fights. The little dogs were separated from the big one's so it limited the chance for injuries. Outside there is a large off leash area with lots of things for your dog to explore! When we picked up our dog he was worn out, which means they did a great job having him play and socialize. I could tell he enjoyed is weekend stay and we plan on using the Pet Ranch again! read more

The Pet Ranch came recommended by my vet. I have been very happy with the boarding facilities at Pet Smart and have used them for the past six years. But I went with my vets' advice since he services The Pet Ranch and my dog has had an on-going issue with his tail. I have no problem with the facility. My issue is with the way I was treated by the staff and the vet. I had grabbed a set of credit card checks to pay my bills as I was leaving the house. I had several sets of them all expiring at different times. I was distracted because I had been informed the problem with my dog's tail had flared up and that my vet was going to see to him that morning. I inadvertently paid my bills with checks that had expired. Later that day my vet texted me to say he and The Pet Ranch was frustrated and upset. I called immediately and said that I would be out to pay with current checks. Both the staff and the vet refused to accept anything but cash or credit card payment from me going forward. I apologized and said it was an honest mistake but they persisted in treating me as if I was trying to pass bad checks. I paid over the phone but told them I would not be back. Then I fired my vet. I found the staff arrogant and complacent. I'm going back to PetSmart where I and my dog have always been treated like valuable customers. And I'm going back to a proper vet. read more

We used to leave our lab/husky mix fur baby at home and have neighbors come in and help us, but he's been getting some anxiety being alone and started howling at night. We had a positive experience with The Pet Ranch years ago when we went on our honeymoon and thought we'd go back again so fur baby had some friends and playtime. He can tell where we are headed once he gets in the car and he goes crazy for the Pet Ranch. He comes home from his day of play and is completely tuckered out. I cannot say enough about the staff here. I was out of town on a business trip and my boy got very sick (due to him being naughty and eating something he shouldn't have at home) while staying at the Pet Ranch and the staff went above and beyond to help him as well as keep me calm. these people are all about money. when I could never get my dog in on short notice, they enticed me to pay $500 with the idea I would get preferential booking and top of waiting list plus discounts on boarding. like a fool I paid and nothing changed; no better with booking and no discounts. They were not nice on the phone when I called the other day. "we aren't interested in helping you...." ; I asked them to help with boarding two of my dogs side by side. a few months ago my dog caught some sort of illness there and he had diarrhea for 3 months. I spent thousands of dollars in vet bills to cure him. It came from their community area that has astroturf. dogs crap and pee on it all day every day. then your dog goes on it and gets sick. no wonder the place smells of urine! We have used Pet Ranch several times for our weeklong vacation each year. We were happy with the employees and the facilities. Our dog seemed to like the place very much. Last year we encountered some confusion over vaccinations and a charge on our bill. Both questions were answered to our satisfaction. We just called to try to utilize the business again and were told they would not service us. they said the reason is that we were not happy with their service. Which is certainly untrue because we called them first when we needed to board our dog. We can only conclude one thing after this latest encounter: The Pet Ranch doesnt need the business. they have so much business that they will not tolerate a customer who asks for clarification about their policies or a charge on their bill. Our entire family was upset last night. I cant recommend a business whose policy is to deny service to customers at the drop of a hat. very disappointing. apparently there is a huge opportunity for someone to open more pet boarding businesses in this area. pet ranch will give you their customers read more

We took our dog there when we went on vacation. I had read all of the other reviews and decided to take him to the Pet Ranch.. When we picked our dog up after our trip they told us he had been coughing while on the leash for a couple of days, I just thought he was pulling and choking himself. Later that night he was hacking, I had to take him to the after hours vet, he had kennel cough. I know that it's common for dogs to get kennel cough, but at least they could have done was told me about it. He was there for 7 days, and I am sure he didn't just start coughing his last day. I had to fill out contact information for a reason, they should have called someone and my family could have picked him up.. I called the Pet Ranch to tell them our dog had kennel cough so they could let the other dog owners know, and they never called me back. I left 2 messages for them and nothing. I expect better care then this, I didn't take my dog to stay at Petco. read more
