Stay far away from Summit Pet Care. This place is an absolute scam for what they charge. Christina, the main manager, is rude, unprofessional, and gives zero warm welcome. They charge you for every single thing , you literally have to pay extra just for someone to hold or cuddle your dog, and if you don't pay for "outside time," your dog stays locked in a cage almost the entire day. The facility isn't even clean. They don't train their employees at all, which is exactly why they're always short-staffed, management has changed, and people keep quitting left and right. For a place that calls itself professional, it's insane how many dogs cough up blood while they're there. Do not take your dog to this place. It's not worth the money or the risk. read more

I've gotten my dogs groomed for 18 years at Summit Pet Care. Was always a wonderful experience. Went for the first time this year...prices have gone up 10% and they are charging a convenience fee of a $1.65 to use a card! I feel horrible to leave my groomer as it's been the same one for all these years. But, that is not how you run a business. It's one thing to up your prices but quite another to add a fee to use your card as well! I've been bringing my dog here for years, and under the old management it was friendly, welcoming, and well-run. Now, I don't even know who the manager is. We were in town for a week for a seminar and boarded our shepherd mix here for the entire week. They came highly recommended from a friend of ours in town who boards her dogs here. We picked her up on Sat and noticed she had a horrible cough when she got excited. We took her home and $150 vet bill later, she has kennel cough. I called Summit Petcare and told them about it because it's highly contagious. I feel bad for any other pet owners who boarded at the same time who now has a sick pup. The manger said she would talk to t he owner and review their cleaning protocols. I'm very unhappy with them because they didn't let us know that she had a cough (she did NOT have a cough when she arrived) and there's NO WAY they didn't hear it; it was definitely bad. Seems to be they don't review vet records very closely or pay close attention to your pet while it's there. If we're ever back in town, we'll be using someplace else. Oh, and never try calling in the morning. Apparently they don't have the staff to answer the phone which is incredibly annoying. read more

"A Wagging Tail is a Happy Tail" On the recommendation of our Vet we brought Mollie (a Ausie / Pointer mix rescue) to Summit Pet Care for an overnight boarding and Grooming. She had a bit of fear aggression and our Vet recommended Summit because of their reputation for personalized service and care. Before actually taking her there we stopped by for a tour. For boarding the have two kinds of pens: a normal indoor pen and ones that open to a private fenced off area that the dog can get to whenever she wants to. We alway opt for the latter as Ausies love being outside. It is a small, but reasonable uncharge, but in our case well worth it. They will supply food and treats or you can bring your own (containers must be marked), You can also bring bedding or toys to amuse them during their stay. I will say that we felt like first time parents and kept wanting to call and see how she was doing. We held back, and realized that there had been no need for concern. Picking her up the next day, she had been perfectly groomed, and while glad to see us, she had to say, "good bye" to her new friends on staff. Now whenever she see's us bundling up her bed and food she races to the car, excited to be head out for her spa weekend. Prices are well within those in the market, and Mollie strongly recommends them. read more

The disconnect of communication of policies throughout the facility from owner to staff made itself very apparent today. My 10 month old GSD has been going there for a couple months. He is still intact due to the recommendation of my vet and numerous breeders in the area, until he is 2. He has spent numerous days there in daycare. He's spent up to 6 days in boarding AND he's been groomed. Not once has anyone informed me, until today, that he cannot attend because he's not neutered. This is extremely frustrating, as I had very specific reasons to get him established into a place he could go a couple times a week once I return to work next week. I even bought a daycare punch card, and the only reason I'm giving two stars is because they refunded me for the prepaid card. Edited to add: I was never once questioned about it no one ever commented about it and he had been there multiple times and even groomed. It's Hard to believe that the staff there didn't know. Mistakes happen, Summit Pet Care handled it perfectly! During a recent kennel visit I requested our dog Josie be placed in daycare for 2 days. When I picked her up it was discovered that she in-fact had not received daycare... I was super sad I hated the thought of her missing playtime with her friends.. this could've ended badly with me feeling apprehensive about returning. But the way the staff handled it was amazing they were very sympathetic, I received a phone call and a card apologizing and offering make up daycare sessions:) we have used Summit Pet care for years and have always been extremely satisfied with the service and the staff. Very clean boarder. Nice set up and was easy to get them signed up to board with recent vaccinations records, which if you don't have they have a vet that can do it. No cancellations fee in case you pick up early. There are add ons you can pay for for the dogs to be able to play more. However, the only reason I dropped a star is that I was charged for two nights. They do have a 1:00 pick up time and then they charge for an additional night. I was set for 6 nights there but ended up driving back from Oklahoma after one night because plans changed. I drove 4 hours and had to make a unexpected stop because I didn't have cash for tolls, pushing me back 16 mins. I tried calling in prior to to let them know but no one answered, so I was late by 16 minutes and there was no budging. Totally fine, a rule is a rule. The stingy feeling I have from that though leaves me feeling like 'eh maybe I'll try out somewhere else to see. Which they have a daycare I was thinking I'd bring Bear to maybe weekly so the feeling I'm left with makes me not feel like making that relationship, idk we'll see. Otherwise, great place, great staff. It was overall a good experience minus that last feeling I left with. read more

Never again, picked our dog up after a week of boarding and she was hacking and coughing( Aug 2023). She got kennel cough and we were not even notified she was sick. They require Bordetella but they either do not check records carefully and or clean/isolate dogs that get sick. I understand things can happen but the fact that the ones that look after the kennel do not care enough about the health of the dogs to notify anyone of them throwing up and coughing is incredibly sad. read more

PSA for Lees Summit residents--- ***DO NOT SEND YOUR DOGS TO SUMMIT PET CARE**** #summitpetcare We have been sending our dogs there for 3 years for daycare and/or boarding. Our son used to work there for 2 of those years. All seemed fine up until this last boarding for them last week. I received a call 2 hours before we were to pick them up when we got back in town that Harper had a "hot spot" on her neck that likely needed to be looked at by a vet. I called our vet for appt for that same day. Josh picked them up and Harper was crying with every step while he walked her to the car. The "hot spot" ended up being at least 8"x 8" and full of infection. The vet shaved her hair and said it was a nasty one. Got meds and now Harper is on day two of meds and still in pain. Not sleeping or eating and is painful stretching that area on her chest even with walking up stairs. I called the manager at Summit Pet Care and she said the hotspots grow so quick that they didn't even see this huge area until a couple hours we were gonna see it ourselves. I call total bullshit on this. She also said she wouldn't pay for our vet bill because Harper could have come in with it and it got worse with playing outside in the heat and water. I reminded her that Harper is a 23.5 hrs/day indoor dog ONLY and wouldn't have any abrasion from home. So they dismissed it, told me it wasn't noticeable until the last day when it was 8"x8", tried to say it happened on our watch and refused to pay for vet bill and wouldn't refund any of our $800 boarding bill. They also had a Doberman kenneled once that had a control spike collar and they left it on him the entire boarding time which resulted in his entire neck raw and infected. This hotspot is right where her harness rests against her yet the manager said there is no way the staff used or left her harness on. I find this all very suspicious of the area and the story not adding up for the timing of it growing out of control without anyone noticing. read more

Our main issue with Summit Pet Care is the poor customer service. We tend to book boarding online, but when we bring our dogs in, the reception desk seems to ignore everything we selected except for the date. During our most recent visit, we had to restate the extras we wanted, which did not inspire much confidence in the overall process. I believe if we hadn't gone the extra mile to double-check on our additions, then our dogs would have have had a much worse weekend. There's also rarely a warm greeting or eye-contact. And we are never told how our dogs did under their care when we come to pick them up. Our dogs always seem to be a-ok, but the process and interactions with staff make us uncomfortable. We want a place that feels friendly and welcoming and pays attention to detail - and we don't seem to find those things here. We will likely look elsewhere when boarding our dogs in the future. read more

Don't let the 6 reviews from their friends fool you, this place is horrendous. They don't know how to take care of pets. Boarded my dog for a few nights while I was out of town, and he had what looked like acid burns when I picked him up. They claim to have access to vet techs to help in time of need. However, when I picked up my dog, I spoke to one of the employees who indicated they could never get any help from the owner or any vets. Most employees do not get trained on how to care for your pets. They do not get any training on how to handle an emergency. They are just told to remove the pet, spray the kennels with acid chemical, and do a quick rinse. This is not caring for your pets. They do the bare minimum and claim it is the best care. How sad. Even the employees have a hard time agreeing with the policy. The young lady who I spoke to was pleasant but not very helpful about the time my dog stayed there. I noticed he was also not very energetic, and they told me they had only been feeding him dry food. I left plenty of wet food to be mixed with dry food, and they had specific instructions to do so. However, I guess they either misplaced or used up my supply, and didn't have any to feed my dog. I have heard from other customers that the owner is very rude to both customers and employees. It seems to be the case, as the employees do not care for her. Two of the employees had a dispute about what they were supposed to do; apparently both having been told to do opposite things from each other. How dysfunctional is this place. I caution you, stay clear from this place if you care about your pets. I will not be returning. read more

We called about boarding our two dogs. Our initial phone call was spectacular, they had availability, the pricing was reasonable and they had an app that allowed us to upload records, review the cost estimate and see other add on services. The Saturday before our board, we came in to tour the facility. I was not incredibly impressed with the size of the indoor/outdoor runs for both dogs, but the kennels were clean and several attendants passed by looking in on the kennels in the short time we were there. I inquired about the condos as an alternative, which seemed more appropriate for our two dogs, but they weren't available. I checked the app a few days before our first day of boarding to confirm that we'd packaged and labeled everything properly per their requirements (food in containers vs. bags, etc.). Their was a red flag that one of our dog's vaccinations were incomplete - there wasn't a message or a note with any details. I tried to call, twice. No answer. When we arrived, I asked about the note in the app and handed them our paper record. The disengaged front desk agent said she needed to talk to her manager, who told me that our dog's vaccine was expired. I called the vet and it had expired, and they couldn't get us in that afternoon, since it was nearly 5:00. We left with our dogs. I am not upset that they wouldn't board her, because I understand why the rules exist and that's okay. I'm upset that someone reviewed the records, flagged them as incomplete without any additional information or contact so that we could remedy this beforehand. As I result, I will be staying home with the dogs while my family leaves for the planned and paid for trip without me. We won't board with them in the future due to the lapse in communication, but their doggy daycare seemed like it was well ran, and if your dog doesn't have any special needs, it will probably enjoy their time there. read more

After spending way too much money at chain vets and boarders, I am so thrilled that I finally found this local gem. I took my doggie in for some routine grooming on a late Tuesday morning. The staff were pleasant and heard my concerns about not being able to be with the dog at other groomers in the past when she gets her little procedures done. They suggested and encouraged my involvement in the grooming and allowed me to "hold" my doggie's hand, so-to-speak, the whole time. They talked me through what they were doing along the way and even volunteered to teach me some of the methods they use (which I had begged my big-box groomer to do to no avail). Not only was the customer service really personal, but the receipt at the end of the day was stellar! Literally less than half what the Big Box was charging - and with the added bonus of quality and genuine care! It doesn't get much better than this, I tell ya. Woof! read more

Everyone in my family openly admits to being crazy dog people, and we found our perfect match with Summit Pet Care. My little girl can be (okay, she always is) a pathetic monster when separated from me, but I never have to worry when I leave her with the groomers, back in daycare, or in the kennels for boarding because I know everyone there cares about every dog with which they come into contact. Everyone knows who my baby is and calls her by name, which is amazing to me. (: Both of my sisters take their dogs there for boarding, grooming, and daycare and have always been very pleased by their experiences. One of my sister's dogs has (medical) 'special needs,' so to speak, so she requires more specific care, and that is very clearly always given. The dogs are always happy, wagging their tails and pulling on their leashes to get through the door and go see their friends! My mom's dogs also go there for grooming and one for daycare, and my dad has started taking his dogs there for daycare and grooming recently on my recommendation. I also know from a friend that some of the staff have stayed the night, sleeping on dogs beds and cuddling with a dog they were concerned about who was nearing the end of his days and got super anxious anytime he was left alone. It's things like that which make me know these people care. Having a vet in the same building in case any medical emergencies arise is also comforting, and I can tell the two businesses work well together, also making it easy to keep the kiddos current on their shots. Linda, Emily, Leann, Kelcie, and everyone I've ever encountered are always kind, friendly, and efficient and it is very apparent that their first priority is always to give amazing care to the babies under their roof. I typically take my do to another vet for treatment but always take her to Summit Petcare for daycare. When my other vet demanded that my dogs get flu shots and the total for all shots was estimated at several hundred dollars I asked Summit Petcare and they said for the shots they require it would be about $60! Awesome. Many vets are creating mandatory updates to shots that shouldn't be required just to see your dog. Summit Petcare has been very fair and has kept pricing economical. They always explain what things cost and why. Their daycare is also amazing. read more

Took my dog here for the first time, he is a 9 month old puppy. I signed up for day care and boarded him for the weekend. I picked him up on Sunday with no feedback on how he did, I asked for his report card and a gal working there said we only do report cards on dogs that do day care, I mentioned he was supposed to be in day care, she said oh well he didn't do well so he didn't get to participate. I asked what happened she said he was biting other dogs. I made it clear verbally and on paper that he was a puppy and plays hard like a puppy. I called the following Tuesday during business hours to see if I could talk with someone that could give me more information with no return call back. Would like there to be cameras so I can watch off of my phone, but other than that all is great. We boarded for the weekend and he was groomed today and they nicked his paw and his nail too short and needless to say the carpet in my house looks like a murder scene. I called to speak to them and they took no ownership or even apologized for what happened to him. Blaming my dog for having black nails. Really?!?!?! Well he gets his nails trimmed every two weeks and has never had that happen. You pay good money for qualified individuals to tend to your fur baby baby....but this momma is not ok with this service. I picked up my golden doodle on Mon. April 1st. I was very upset . first of all he was not ready because he had not been groomed yet. So I called about 1pm and he still was not done. He had been dropped off on Fri. and I told them he was not to be shaved just a Teddy bear or line cut .The girl that came out and looked at him didn't seem to think it would be a problem and would tell the other groomer. I never did get a call from them so showed up at 4:30 and said ,I want my dog right now. The owner was not very nice and said my 8 month old puppy was very matted and had to be shaved. Which I don't believe. HONEY Bs had just told me 3 weeks before I was doing a good job keeping him brushed. I feel they just didn't want to bother with brushing him. I am very disappointed in Summit care and this is only one of the reasons . I will not be going back there again to board or groom ,they don't listen. J.Lamb B read more

Don't let the 4 stars fool you, this place is top notch. I gave 4 stars since I didn't use all the offered services. We boarded our 2 dogs for 2 nights during a trip back to Kansas City, MO. We live out of state, and needed a place to leave our dogs while we attended an event. Summit Pet Care was recommended to us by a friend. Both of our dogs are rescues, and 1 we just adopted almost a year ago. She has made a lot of progress, however, given her history I needed a place where she could receive hands off care if needed. Summit Pet Care had indoor/outdoor runs which fit the bill for her situation. We don't board our dogs often, and Macy our most recent rescue has never been boarded, so both were nervous and scared. They didn't eat normally, but the staff gave them some cheese and peanut butter so they would at least have something in their tummy's. I highly recommend Summit Pet Care, and will use them again as needed. Not only do they have indoor/outdoor runs, they also have Sunday afternoon pick up, which was a necessity for us for this stay. The staff was friendly, the facility was clean, they have a nice selection of additional services, variety of toys, and a full veterinarian clinic next door in case of emergencies. I would not recommend this place to anyone. I took my goldendoodle there yesterday morning at 8:00 am. I stressed that I DID NOT want him to look like a poodle. I wanted him to look the same, but with shorter hair. When I hadn't heard from them at 4:30, I called to see if he was ready...they had just put in on the table. Maybe the rush was the reason they completely forgot everything I said. He looks exactly like a poodle, down to the tail. We took our husky here for a long weekend. The place we usually take him was full and we were freaking out. Our dog is our child and means the world to us. When we got there to drop him off the staff didn't even acknowledge that we were there for several minuets. No one was friendly and they made us feel like we were a burden by being there. When I went to pick him up he had a rusty colored substance all over his face and they couldn't seem to tell me what it was. Then they proceeded to tell me what a handful my dog was. When I got home with my dog I went to pet him and he flinched and put his head down. I could not believe it!! I tried to pet him again and the same thing happened. I yelled for my husband to come downstairs and try to pet him, same thing happened. It took our dog about 3 days to get back to normal. My husband called and talked to Linda and she immediately attacked him instead of listening to us and trying to make things right. After learning this same thing happened to someone else just a few weeks ago here, we decided to call Linda back and just let her know that the same thing happened to someone else. Honestly, we were just trying to help them figure out if it was maybe someone they had newly hired abusing the dogs. Linda was CRAZY and out of control with her emotions. All she could tell us with a raised voice was that she looked at the videos and nothing happened. She started to SCREAM at my husband and THEN hung up on him. (I was in the room the whole time and she was on speaker phone) So after she hung up on him he called right back and she yelled at him again and said we did not abuse your dog! Come look at the video tapes yourself! AND THEN SAID SCREW YOU!!!!! Really what "manager" says screw you to a customer calling with a serious concern/complaint. Keep in mind my husband did not curse or raise his voice through out all of this. YOU SHOULD NEVER TAKE YOUR PET HERE IF YOU LOVE AND CARE ABOUT THEM!!!!!!! This is a sad, sad place where you think your animal is being taken care of and he is just being mistreated and abused. We feel like awful parents for choosing this place. AND if Linda would have handled things differently we would not be publicly talking about it. read more

My dogs used to go to Camp Bow Wow. They didn't have grass to play on, and would come home absolutely filthy every day. Since I started taking them to Summit Pet Care they can't wait to get in the car, they love the "counselors" and other staff and are treated like royalty. They even want to go when they see me taking their food, toys and blankets and they know they are going to be staying a few nights. We started our rescue puppy in day care to burn off excess energy. She did so well we let our older couch potato Mastador go with her one day and he fell in love with the place. They both go to day care almost every day, including the 9-3 Saturday session. Both have greatly improved attitudes from playing with all of their puppy buddies, swimming in the pool during the season, and our older dog has lost a lot of weight and is much more peppy since he started going. I can't recommend this place enough. We have not used the grooming services yet, but I expect that the dogs would have a good experience there as well. read more
